Had the most unforgettable Friday night because of the amazing staff here!! We forgot to ask the managers names but they came and greeted us and were so welcoming from the start. Our night was made by ALL the staff who were so attentive and created such an uplifting atmosphere. Specifically Gerardo, and Isidro our servers. Food, drinks were amazing, not a single complaint. Will definitely be back! We ordered the shortrib tacos, panang curry, and the spicy lobster pad Thai.
Funky Geisha brings the full Tulum vibe to Cancun. The food was incredible and definitely worth the price, even though it's on the higher end. The cocktails were just as good, super well made and flavorful. The music was on point (if you like techno) and at night there was a live DJ set which added a lot to the atmosphere. It can get a bit loud, but you can still have a conversation without yelling, which is a nice balance. The setting is beautiful. You're right by the beach with a front-row seat to the sunset. The whole area has a jungle-inspired design, and there are a few boutique shops you can explore nearby with the same vibe. If you're going with a larger group, I’d recommend making a reservation since it fills up quickly.
This place is so quirky and fun! The mangrove setting is so cool and entering through the tunnels makes you feel like you’re traveling out of the hotel zone. We reserved our table through our hotel as part of our honeymoon and were given a lagoon side couch and chairs for 4 people so we were able to share the couch and cuddle. This led to it feeling like a very intimate night, especially with how empty the restaurant was for sunset on a Monday. The sunset view was AMAZING we were right on the water and absolutely nothing obstructed the view I was staring out over the lagoon the entire meal. We ordered 6 different cocktails throughout the night, each was served uniquely and our favorites were the Tulsi and Bali. The short rib tacos are as good as everyone says, especially the sauce they come with. The sashimi was solid, and the dragon roll was our favorite. The yellow curry was the perfect level of spice and very filling. I did notice that everything trended sweet, adding the provided lemon helps a lot. Carajillos for dessert are a must! But they were out of the flavor I was excited for, the ones we got were still delicious though and a perfect end to the night. There was another table that ordered a few specialty drinks like shots and whenever it happened the DJ raised the volume and played the funky geisha theme. I was a little disappointed there was no drum show, but we may have left too early or there weren’t enough people. Overall it was a gorgeous setting, with good food and stellar service!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND : Had one of the best experiences, with delicious food, even the side sauces are top notch. Food is so flavorful and the staff goes above and beyond on everything and pays details to tiniest of things.
Great food, exceptional location, friendly and helpful staff. It wasn’t cheap but it is a special place and worth the money!!
I wish I could give the service and food a 10 out of 5. This was a whole vibe - thank you Deni and Gabrielle. This was a must and we were spoiled by the team and the food was out of this world
Simply amazing.. celebrated our anniversary here and we could not be happier. Great ambience, great food, immaculate vibes. The staff and service - above and beyond..shoutout to Fabian and the crew - GRACIAS!!!
Amazing service, great entertainment and flavorful food & drinks. Loved it here will definitely recommend to anyone I know coming to this area. For my girls there is the cutest boutique right inside the building of the red with the cutest cowgirl hats, bikinis that are one of a kind, and adorable dresses and cover ups. For my men this shop also has great quality shirts and button up shirts, swim trunks and the vibes gave beach but also kinda Mediterranean clothes. Clothes were kinda pricey but you’re on vacation spend it you won’t find clothes like this other than maybe Europe ❤️
It is amazing place and atmosphere I loved every minute there Only some hidden experiences in the bill exceeded what I expected But still it is worth to bisit
Celebrated my birthday here and had an amazing time. Attentive service, great food, and beautiful views. Would definitely come back!
Some of the best service I’ve had at a restaurant and the vibe was so cool! Very beautiful restaurant and the performances were really fun
Great food, lovely enchanting atmosphere, and exquisite service. We were waited on by the friendly, and attentive Diego and Gabby. They made our special night (10 year wedding anniversary) one to remember. Get the short rib tacos and one of the house cocktails to get things started - you won't be disappointed.
We went here two years in a row - nothing beats the atmosphere, staff, and quality of food. They know how to have fun here! We celebrated our birthdays and had a blast on a Tuesday evening.
Great place to watch the sunset if you time it right. High quality food and exceptional service. The Funky cocktail is a fun experience and provides a unique smokey, sweet flavor. The atmosphere is kind of dark and the relaxing seating makes you want to hang out for a while. The wind off the water was a little cold, but they were very accommodating in terms of raising and lowering the shades.
Beautifully decorated place, delicious food and cocktails. We went on a Friday night, around 8pm. Service was great, everyone super friendly and helpful. Great vibe, waterfront, fun performance, we will definitely be back! Thank you :)
Very beautiful location with an awesome view. The waiters are really courteous and the service all around just perfect. The food prices are really fair for what you get, portion sizes also were really good (we, good eaters, were full after an Appetizer and main course) and the food was also really delicious. As it is an Asian fusion cuisine the Asian food isn’t true to taste Asian but it’s Asian with a bit of “funk” which is fun and it was an experience. The only down point are the drinks prices, 140 pesos for one small beer is too much in my opinion and with cocktails you don’t start below 375 pesos. But other than that it was just a dinner to remember and we would come back for sure!
If you want a unique escape, this is your place. Beautiful oasis’s tucked inside the mangroves. Sushi is a must! Dinner entrees excellent with five star service.
I’m surprised this place isn’t 5 starts yet because it’s honestly so great! The food is delicious….fish so fresh and flavor combinations are up to par. The chef is great! Wow is all I could say with every bite! Service is just as good, everyone is so kind. Atmosphere is fun, jungle vibes and fun! Right by the water. Definitely would recommend!!!
Funky Geisha was incredible! Fredy and Josmar provided excellent service and were extremely professional, prompt, and kind. The food was to die for. The short rib tacos, and nigiri, the curry, the desserts. Everything was delicious!
The restaurant is right by the water with beautiful sunset view. My family loved every dish and were pleasantly surprised by the fusion flavor. If you are not big on salty food, you can try requesting light sauce. The staff was very attentive: cleaning out dirty plates and giving us more water without us asking. We had fun talking to the staff as well. The biggest surprise was seeing the crocodile after the dinner, but this part is not guaranteed. LOL.
Funky Geisha in Cancun is hands down one of the most incredible dining experiences I’ve ever had. From the moment I walked through the entrance, which is a cool tunnel through the mangrove, I knew I was in for something special. The setting by the lagoon is absolutely breathtaking, and it instantly sets the mood for an unforgettable night. The food is a delicious fusion of Thai, Japanese, and Chinese flavors. Every dish I tried—from the sushi rolls to the Panang curry—was packed with fresh ingredients and bold flavors. You can tell the chefs put a lot of creativity into their dishes, making them not only taste amazing but look amazing too. What really sets Funky Geisha apart is the vibe. The bohemian-style décor, live DJ, and occasional performances make it more than just a place to eat. It’s an experience. The music, energy, and friendly service make it the perfect spot to hang out with friends or have a special night out. Sure, the drinks are a bit on the pricey side, but the portions are generous, and the atmosphere more than makes up for it. If you’re ever in Cancun, you absolutely have to check out Funky Geisha. It’s the perfect blend of great food, awesome vibes, and stunning views.
We had an incredible time. One of the best dining experiences we’ve EVER had. This rosanegra hospitality group truly knows what they’re doing. The food is amazing, I highly recommend the tartar and the fish, but the sushi was good, honestly it was all soooo good. But it doesn’t stop there, the service is next level and the vibe is mind blowing. They honestly find any reason to celebrate. There was fireworks, sparklers, music, bottle girls… I mean, even ordering sparkling water is a show piece. A please to see abs be seen, much like Taboo nearby too. Highly recommend it! Everything about this place was amazing— we went out first night in Cancun and it was the perfect way to kick off our trip! Incredible food and cocktails and the experience and vibe of the place were unreal. A show and dinner all in one! Our friends were celebrating their anniversary and they sent out free appetizers and a desert. Spent about $100/pp with drinks and desert, but you could definitely spend less. Such a great place to celebrate!
An excellent experience! Gerardo and Gabriel showed us the best hospitality and gave us the best service we could have asked for. Dinner and entertainment were absolutely lovely!
Very nice restaurant. Overpriced and small portions. The biggest issue is the noise and music level. Too loud. Inconsistent service. The appetizer took too long, and the main dishes arrived very quickly. They don't have a Gluten Free menu and their Gluten Free options as explained by the server didn't give high confidence. The show drummers and dancers was very nice.
Funky Geisha Cancun exceeded our expectations! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was vibrant and elegant, complete with beautiful decorations and even a unique touch—you can spot crocodiles swimming nearby! The valet parking and attentive service from the staff added to the seamless experience. The food was the true highlight. They offer cheesy dumplings from the chef which were delicious. We started with the teriyaki chicken skewers and short rib tacos, both of which were absolutely delicious and packed with flavor. For our mains, we enjoyed the Mongolian beef and lamb chops, both cooked to perfection and bursting with bold, well-balanced flavors. As we were celebrating our anniversary, the staff surprised us with cheesecake pops for dessert, which was a thoughtful touch. While the dessert presentation was lovely, the flavors were a bit basic compared to the rest of the meal. The cocktails were also fantastic, complementing the dishes beautifully. Prices were on the higher side with a few extra charges here and there so be mindful.
I came here to celebrate my bday with a group of friends despite us staying at an all inclusive. We had a great time the aesthetic is very sexy and intimate. The food was amazing . They are very expensive though and I feel like the waiter tried to get over on us . He asked if we were adding tip into our payment not knowing that we knew propina means tip when I asked him what was the difference in the amounts on the receipt he told me it was taxes . It completely turned me off from the experience and from him getting a better tip at the end for lying
Good food, the staff was happy to customise dishes for our vegetarian pallete. We got the Miso Soup, Vegetable Tempura and Drunken Noodles. All of which were great. The Funky Geisha is an experience with Mayan drum performances and various different dancers interacting with the diners. Valet Parking is a huge advantage.
I loved the environment in this restaurant, the decor was perfect for a waterside setting. The aspect is great to watch the sunset too. The food was very good and reasonably priced. We went quite early when it wasn't busy so the staff were very attentive. However this was also my main problem. As soon as we put our cutlery down having finished the first course the second course arrived. They should give a little time between courses. Other than that it was a great place.
Amazing atmosphere! The food was really good also, but prices bit high. The thing is that the restaurant was really quiet and on the restaurant just next to it was the party and music.
Celebrated a friend’s birthday. The ambience and entertainment was really awesome. The staff very friendly. Must say their drinks not very cheap but tasty. Didn’t like my food as the oyster sauce was too strong and overpowering my meal. Also not many varieties on the menu. Overall good entertainment and ambience.
The restaurant, the food, the drinks and the DJ are a vibe. Loved it!!! My only complaint is my waitress Monserrat. She was not attentive, never checked on us and was slow. It took 30 minutes to get starters. She would literally walk past our table and never asked if we need anything or if the food was ok when it came out.
Cool atmosphere here. I’d say it’s obvious that the restaurant has put some effort into making this place fit the Asian concept. However, as a restaurant.. the food and drinks were definitely not impressive for us. I understand they’re trying Asian-inspired food, but someone in the kitchen will definitely have to learn more about Asian food. Not just fried some noodles and put out some rolls, then it’s an Asian restaurant. We eventually left and finished our dinner earlier because it wasn’t good and pretty disappointing for us.
Decor is unreal, absolutely stunning and very unique. I would say the cocktails are better than the food. Food wise, their complimentary starter (pastry parcel stuffed with soft cheese and crab) were outstanding. I highly recommend the beef short rib tacos for starters which were also unreal (these two food items best of the night). Vegetable spring roll starter were standard, quite greasy. The pad Thai main wasn’t nice, very sour & it tasted like the noodles were cooked in stale water. The crispy snook in tamrid sauce was essentially battered fish and the meal is huge (for two to share). Disappointingly we asked about portion size & they did not allude to how big this meal was so we struggled with the amount of food. Overall I would recommend the visit for the ambience and photos, but expect the food bill to be expensive and in my opinion not worth it
The service was excellent. Waiters nice attitude. The atmosphere was pretty. We went for sunset and the hostess gave us a table that we couldn't see. We asked to change and she switched our table. The food was less than expected. The pad Thai was so salty we couldn't finish it. The torta Espanola was soggy and average. I would only return for the views.
Great atmosphere and entertainment but the food is mediocre. The service seemed super slow it took a long time for food to come. We got seated on a japanese style table which was ok but the servers dropped drinks twice on two different people at our table. One if the drinks had a bug in it which put us off. So overall great ambience but if you are a foodie you may be disappointed.
Cool atmosphere. Pretty on the water. The food wasn't very good but you're paying for the atmosphere and "shows". They bring out your drinks with flare and girls come down the aisle dancing and guys playing the drums. It's entertaining.
Stunning lagoon sunset view and chic interior. Friendly staff with quality service. However, as a vegan, I was disappointed by the very small number of vegan dishes on the “vegan menu” (only 3), none of which had any protein. I would’ve appreciated the addition of tofu, as well as a few vegan sushi roll options.
I went to Funky Geisha and had a really good overall experience. The atmosphere was fun, and the shows were great. The food was decent, and I appreciated that they were able to accommodate vegan guests. Unfortunately, the end of the night left a bad taste in my mouth. When the bill came, I noticed I was double charged for the tip. It showed a service charge (Ponopono) of 455 pesos, but after I said I wanted to leave a 20% tip, the server added over 1,000 pesos more, claiming he didn’t receive the original tip because it goes to the bartenders — which was clearly misleading. I love supporting great experiences, but honesty matters. Guests should be aware to check their bills carefully before paying.
Food was fine, nothing spectacular. Servers were really nice, but they complained that we were not lively enough. The music was really loud, the performers made the place feel very chaotic.
The good: The vibes were immaculate. The moment you walk in, it feels like you’re stepping into a lush jungle escape. The ambiance is stunning, and the staff is lively and attentive—it definitely feels like a place meant for a celebration. The not-so-good: Unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to the atmosphere. As SoCal natives now living in NYC, we’ve had our fair share of Asian cuisine—and this just wasn’t it. Nothing really wowed us or made us want to go in for more bites. We started with the spicy edamame (hard to mess up), and were given complimentary crab rangoons, which were standard. For mains, we ordered the duck in plum sauce and the orange-glazed lamb rack. Both were underwhelming—you could definitely skip them. The service: While the staff was friendly, I docked stars for the lack of transparency with pricing. We were asked if we were celebrating anything, and when we said a birthday, our server immediately brought up shots without discussing price—it felt a little like we couldn’t say no. Turns out they were $20 USD per person. Water? Also not complimentary—$8 USD per bottle. I get that this is an “experience restaurant,” but when you're already spending a lot, surprise charges like that don't feel great. When it came to pay to pay the tip, we changed the tip % to a lower amount…. I believe it was the manager who was checking us out and he questioned it, asking if we were sure we want it that low….. Overall, it’s a beautiful spot with a fun atmosphere, but the food and pricing transparency didn’t match the vibe. I believe the prices do cover for the shows they put on. So I would see it more as a “dinner and a show” to justify the cost. Come for the cocktails, skip on the dinner.
The vibe is definitely nice - open atmosphere, nice view of the water. Service is pretty quick, and staff is very attentive. The food? Not worth the price. I think you're paying for the place and not for a good quality of food. We ordered nigiri, Thai lettuce wraps, and Mongolian beef. Nigiri was okay. Thai lettuce wrap is deconstructed so you have to build it yourself - I could see other people enjoying that concept, but not us. It's presented nicely though. The Mongolian beef was extremely overpriced for its quality - it's too sweet and the serving is leaning on the low side.
Worst experience of my life. New years experience was an absolute disaster. Staff tried their best to handle the madness but management clearly don’t know how to run a resteraunt. Constantly racing around trying to get orders out but no one was being looked after. Drink orders didn’t come when asked about them management did not fix the issue just brushed us aside, also racing around panacking. The music was rediculously loud and annoying, impossible to have a conversation. The staff were so busy they weren’t able to open the blinds for the firework show at midnight and never gave us our glass of champagne, so no new years celebration. The worst part is they charged us for the full meal as soon as we sat down at 9.30. We left at 1 am after only received 2 of our 4 courses and 2 drinks each. Absolutely absurd. €200 per head btw. Tried to complain to management on our way out. Was met by an upper management named Mario, who was very aggressive and said they do not and will not do refunds. Easily the worst experience ive ever had in a resteraunt. Such a shame our new years celebrations depended on it
What a cotastrophy for NYE!!! Paid £200 each for a 4 course NYE meal with unlimited drinks, entertainment, DJ and fireworks. It started well with the entertainment and first course, then the night fell apart. By 11pm it was chaos. We waited 1 hour 45 minutes for the third course after the second. When the mains eventually arrived it was cold, the lamb was chewy and the lobster tail has given me food poisoning, clearly not cooked properly. Staff were clearly overwhelmed and rushing around. That’s not their fault. Management looked unprepared and kept brushing it off with “it’s crazy” instead of fixing it or taking accountability. The fireworks were also a letdown. They were set off about 10 metres from the restaurant, so you could barely see anything, and they lasted around 5 minutes. We left at 12.30am, like many others, because the atmosphere had completely dropped. Massive overpromise and poor execution.
I am genuinely baffled by how poorly this was handled. From start to finish, the experience was marked by incompetence, lack of accountability from management, and an apparent indifference to customers. We paid for a set menu of 5 courses and only got 2. We also had not gotten all of our courses before midnight despite being seated at 9:30. We paid for an open bar but had to ask for drinks 4 times before we got the manager and waited over an hour for one drink. Promises were made and not kept, we paid for Moet at midnight for the New Year’s Eve countdown and did not get it, issues were brushed off, instead of bringing our drinks as ordered the manager attempted to give us a bottle of tequila? and the final outcome fell far below even the lowest expectations. This was not a minor inconvenience, that we could’ve overlooked, it was a consistent pattern of failure. I will not be returning and cannot recommend this to anyone. This was easily one of the worst experiences I’ve had. The service was disorganized, careless, and shockingly unprofessional. Basic expectations were ignored, communication was poor, and the overall result was a complete waste of time and money. I would strongly advise anyone to stay far away unless you enjoy frustration and disappointment. I have given this a 1 star rating as I cannot give 0.
Just another place in Mexico that thinks a fancy location and high prices automatically mean premium. We paid 40 dollars for two drinks, which were okay but definitely not worth the price. One drink was spilled on my boyfriend by a waiter — accidents happen, but there was no apology and no offer to help (espresso martini on white pants…). If you want to be premium, you should act premium, especially when it comes to service.
Came to this restaurant when I first arrived to cancun. I was staying at the canopy hotel next to the mall and so I was looking for a restaurant that opened late. The place seemed dead... it was weird because it was prime dinner hours (8:00pm). This is not a beach front restaurant as it faces the lagoon and I was given a great table facing it. The food was just okay, obviously much better asian food in the US. The service seemed overwhelming at times almost obnoxious. Where I had the biggest issue was when the final bill came, it had auto gratuity included, which I was okay with until the server came and told me that the auto gratuity of 15% was for the kitchen staff and not the waiters. I told him that I was fine with leaving an extra 5% to bring it up to the american standard of 20% gratuity and they must resolve it amongst themselves as how gratuity gets distributed is not my problem. A "manager" then came to my table and reiterated that the autograt was for the kitchen staff and not the wait staff. I replied by telling him that I found this auto grat absurd and there was no way I would tip anything over 20% at this point for what I found a below average restaurant with shady business practices. We left but felt this was the type of trickery that prevents me from coming to mexico more often.
This was without question the worst meal I have ever had, and unfortunately also the most expensive. €1,900 for 8 people, and from the very beginning our New Year’s Eve was ruined. On arrival, we were met by a lady at the main reception who completely ignored everyone waiting. No one came to seat us, so we eventually seated ourselves. We were then immediately demanded to pay in full before even being given menus or offered a drink. We paid an additional €55 per person for the “free bar,” yet waited over an hour for our first drink. Wine was not included, which is unbelievable considering wine is the most common drink to have with dinner. By 11:40pm, we had only received 2 out of the 4 courses we paid for. Champagne for the countdown was advertised as part of the package, but we never received it. We were also promised a view of the fireworks, which we did not have. At one point, staff tried to clear our table and we had to explain that we were still waiting on two courses. We repeatedly asked to speak to a manager to explain how disappointed we were. When management finally appeared, they brought a bottle of tequila to the table—despite us clearly explaining that all we wanted was wine with our meal and that we were not interested in spirits. At €55 per person for the bar, accommodating a bottle of wine should not have been an issue. The service staff themselves were genuinely kind and clearly under immense pressure. They did their best and remained polite throughout, despite having no support from management, who hid and allowed staff to take the blame. Management showed zero accountability and were rude and aggressive when confronted. By 12:40am, we decided to leave, having still only received half of the meal we paid for. We were told a refund could not be processed until the following day due to “no cash available,” which made no sense as payment was taken by card and could just as easily have been refunded. Speaking to others waiting for taxis, it became clear that guests at other restaurants within the Rosa Negra group had identical experiences. This was a ticketed, pre-booked event, so management knew exactly how many people were attending. Simple solutions—such as staggering seating times, communicating honestly, and taking responsibility—could have avoided much of this disaster. This experience completely ruined our New Year’s Eve. One lesson learned: never pay for something before you receive it. Thank you to the service staff who kept smiling and did their best despite being let down by management.
Like many others, our NYE was ruined at this place. We had high expectations but the night was a disaster from the outset. Poorly organised chaos. We felt sorry for the waiting staff who were clearly set up for failure and doing their best with little to no support from management. We paid £200 for a 4 course menu, unlimited drinks/free bar, entertainment and fireworks. But wound up leaving hungry and disappointed, not a nice way to see in the New Year at all. The service took forever, drinks ever came, we waited over an hour and a half between each course with no explanation. Fireworks were woeful. The staff were frantic, and most customers seemed miserable as well as freezing cold, which meant the atmosphere plummeted - despite a ‘lively’ environment (very loud music), even the DJ looked bored! Gutted is an understatement and really wouldn’t recommend. It’s a shame because the setting was nice, and the food (that we managed to have) was nice enough.
I and my husband visited this place for our anniversary dinner and we were highly disappointed. I would not recommend this place at all. 1 - It was too loud for a restaurant, guests were made to dance even when they did not want to. We clearly wanted to have a nice dinner and spend time with each other. 2 - They offered us dessert by making it look like its on the house for our anniversary and later charged us for the same. 3 - The waiter kept hovering over us to take the dishes away. This was while I still had food on my plate. I literally had to tell him to take a deep breath to calm down and to back off from my plate. I will finish when I will finish. 4 - They already included the tip (as per their own whims and fancies) in the bill. We would have tipped anyway and the amount of tip is the guest's decision, not the restaurant's. 5 - We paid them in USD and they offered to return the cash in MXN which we agreed, only to find out that they were not giving us the correct amount of cash. If my husband hadn't noticed, we would have ended up paying more than the bill amount. Absolutely disappointed.
