Good food but takeout only is a bummer
One of the best Chinese food I've tried.
Amazing fried crab Rangoon very filling and in my opinion the best value per money food in canton
Have been coming here since Linda opened it, always good food, great service.!
A1 is the best Chinese takeout in the area. We always get great food and great service, to top it off it is quick!
Very good take-out Chinese. They do not disappoint.
Best local Chinese restaurant. New favorite is the chicken (and vegetables) in spicy garlic sauce.
Consistently good food, fast and friendly service. Would recommend.
Really great chicken lo mein!!
Such great food. Never disappointed
The food here is consistent. You know what you are going to get. My favorite dish is the Black Bean Lo Mein; they will add spice to your liking.
10.23.23 ordered 2 Gen tso combos. They were done in 4 minutes. Super fast service and food tasted great!
Authentic flavors and service! Love ❤️ the ambiance. Perfect step into a plethora of options.
I love it because I love Chinese food. I like ordering at lunch so I'm not too sure how late they are open. But the food comes real quick.
Good portions, good prices, good service. Consistant quality- never been disapointed. If you want Chinese take-out in Canton, NY this is definitely the place to go.
The best lo mein and fried rice in the North Country!! Fresh and made to order. Very quick service during these trying times!!
This was our first visit here and let me say we will be back! The minute we walked in we felt very welcomed. The food was delicious. So much flavor and so much food for a great price.
One of my favourite Chinese restaurants in all of New York. They never get my order wrong and they are always fast and friendly.
We Usually always get food here as a daily chicken and broccoli consumer, well todays chicken and broccoli had bugs in it, UPDATE SINCE NEW OWNERSHIP HAS TAKEN OVER THE FOOD IS EXCELLENT A++++++ !!!!! New owners are excellent extremely friendly not rude like the last owner guy thanks for doing our community a great service !!! Will be back for more since I order 2-3 times a week !!
Great food, prepared just the way you ask and within reasonable prices. Just make sure you know exactly what you want before you call them.. if not you will get a healthy and much expected dose of emotional abuse from whomever's on the other end lol. Order it anyways. You'll like the food.
Whenever I go to Canton, I eat there. The food seems to taste better than the Chinese food in Plattsburgh, Malone and Saranac Lake, and I've eaten in pretty much all the Chinese restaurants in those 3 towns. A-1 also gives you a huge portion for the money, and I almost always have to ask for a container to take home my leftovers. Their pork fried rice is delicious, and it's the real deal, unlike the slightly browned rice in other restaurants. A-1's also is loaded with big pieces of pork, unlike what's passed of as pork fried rice in other establishments.
A-1 in Canton has the best egg rolls compared to any other restaurant in the north country. Always fried perfectly crisp on the outside and never gummy or tough inside. The best ! Thank you.
When I say it’s the best. I mean. Like. Not just words here people. This is the BEST Chinese food you can get!!! Anywhere around here!! Fast. Friendly. Amazing food!
Consistently good food at reasonable prices. I’ve been going here for over 20 years and have never had any disappointing meals. A1 food and service!
I love this restaurant. The food is always hot and freshly made. This is my go-to chinese place in the Canton-Potsdam area. Keep in mind they deliver during the school year but not in the summer months.
The best Chinese in St. Lawrence County, chicken balls are the best ever think the peanut oil u use I believe makes the deep fried items so delicious!!!
Live in ogdensburg and just drive to Canton to get their food for my family's dinner. It was ready exactly when they said it would be and just absolutely delicious. Not another chinese place for a long distance that is even close to this places food
I love this place. Now I absolutely love this place. I only had $10 on me and it was about $12 for my food and the delivery guy "zack" paid my different. Awesome food and awesome customer service.
This is hands down the BEST Chinese food in all of Canton & Potsdam and 1 of the TOP 3 in all of St Lawrence County!! For every 1 negative or under three star review there are 6 five star reviews!! Of course every fast food joint will have bad reviews, it's just a cost of doing a lot of business. But the positive FAR out way the negative. If you had a bad experience give them another try - they won't disappoint!! I'm from Boston so trust when I tell you this is good Chinese food! Order out today, you'll love the quantity, the prices, and the taste!! So tell'em Tommy sent you, it won't help you at all but maybe it'll help me.
Wow the food was amazing ! The portions were so huge we were both able to take our leftovers home f I t a full mwas the next day. While I cleaned the garbage on our table, I didn't see any where to put the dishes. I left them on the table. As leaving I heard a person make a sound and as I turned he looked at me with a look of disgust. I asked if I was supposed to put them somewhere and he threw his cleaning rag on table and harshly waved me out. Had I seen a place to put the dishes I would have. I will say that this place was really good. I wish they spoke English.
This place is really just reliable. I come from Philadelphia PA where they had the same types of combo meals at other Chinese places and the ones here at A1 are about a dollar more, but they give you a lot more food then you would get in the city. They're very convenient, and I've never had a problem ordering from them. The soda there or any drink is also very cheap. They've taken to online ordering since Covid, and the website works great.
Great food and prices. My father and i eat here often. My grandchildren are also big fans.
this is amazing!! I love to come here all the time and on ocassions a girl named Sophie works there. she is absolutely beautiful and very kind!! the customer service is amazing and I wish I could go here everyday!
this was soooo good🤤🤤🤤🤤 best chinese food my LIFE!!! do recommend
I wish they were nicer even though there food is awesome!!!! There was a little girl there that couldn't afford her drink so she put it away! T I bought it for her wish they had more sympathy on people! They could of went half with me!
Ive been going here my whole life and they make the best lo mein ever. My favorites are shrimp lo mein, eggrolls, and sweet n sour chicken. They are always kind and i dont think they have ever made a mistake with my food.
It’s the best Chinese food I’ve ever had. The portions are outstanding. Easily two meals for a ~$12 order. Would request the Singapore chow mei fun as my last meal on death row. I dream about this place. When you leave the town of Canton and start to venture into the heart of the NoCo, you’re basically in, “Deliverance”, territory. With that being said, it would be wise to take each negative review with a grain of salt. The service is fine. Yeah they don’t smile and scream, “Welcome to Moes!”, but they take your order and give your food. That’s all I really care about. I don’t think I’ve ever dined-in here. Takeout or delivery is the way to go.
I'm astounded by all the racist people in these reviews who mistake neutral interactions with being rude. I've never had a bad experience with these guys. Just because they're not being fake and smiling at you or speak perfect english to thoroughly explain your insufferable needs to know what's in everything, doesnt mean they're not trying their best. These guys work hard in there, in less than favorable conditions, in a town full of bigots. Please, show them kindness, and order the sweet and sour chicken or something lol. You can't go wrong with it.
Some of the best Chinese I have had. Had it delivered to the dorms at SLU while we were visiting. The Singapore-style noodles were amazing. The perfect amount of curry! Delivery was on time!
Great atmosphere. Friendly people, amazing food, willing to make substitutions (within reason) and for those that care Flawless English from staff so far. Would recommend over any other in the area. From Evans Mills to potsdam best fried rice I've had. And the sampler platter (bao bao) was amazing.
I grew up in Canton and have eaten here for something like 25 years. After living in several other states, I came back to visit family recently and found that this is still my favorite Chinese carry out of all time (nothing authentic about this). The North Country has some real gems and this is one of them. In this most recent trek, my family ordered crab Rangoon (amazing), egg rolls, boneless spare ribs, lo mein, chicken wings, and general tso's chicken. It was all delicious.
The people here are friendly and the food is good and consistent
Good typical Chinese takeout. No surprises here. Good food, good prices, fast service.
Great food, great service. Decor is a little dated, but I still love this place.
Everyone is so nice and the food was so good. And the portion was huge.
They will make your food to order, such as rice without peas. Great prices. Always fast. Eat in or take out. They do deliver to a limited area.
Good food and very fast delivery the shrimp with garlic sauce isn’t as good as it used to be
Same chicken everytime you go, plus the chicken fried rice is way better than the pork, I kick it there every Thursday
Some of their food items are vary good. They're Hunan to taste is probably my favorite. When ordering can be little pushy and usually busy. Not many people dinning in Evan before covid.
Great food, dont let it sit in takeout container too long, its sooo good fresh. Theyre super busy and don't have a lot of time to talk to more chatty customers, but I really enjoy being able to be clear and concise and have good food consistently. Fried dumplings and an egg roll, eat in is my favorite. So crispy. Super kind staff, though, is the last thing i wanna add. I didnt know that there was a gap between the garbage box and the container inside and dumped sauce all over their box and floor. They were so so nice and cleaned it up for me, never were rude. The best takeout in town. Its not a fight for 1st either. Far and above between pricing and flavor.
Traveled to Ogdensburg for funeral and staying in Canton over night. I figured why not some Chinese before they close. The service was fast and the food was cooked fresh and hot when handed to me over the counter only thing I can say is the rice and the sesame chicken didn’t have much of any flavor. The pork egg roll was good and my women said the Crab Ragoons are on point I wouldn’t know because I don’t eat them. Past reviews states that staff was un friendly in this case they were very friendly and even the guy helping close the shop while mopping got my attention knowing I had go grab my food soon said “hey” I looked up said “yes” he said “floors wet be careful so you don’t fall” I said “okay thank you” grabbed my food when ready and went on about my night. Overall not a bad experience wish the sesame chicken and rice had a-little more flavor still not bad though as I ate it all.
Good food at a reasonable price. Very quick service & prep. Casual food-court style booth seating. Our children love the horse mural. I wish they had the complimentary Chinese tea in a thermos like most New Jersey places, which makes for a more authentic experience.
The food was decent. I will say that the egg rolls were the least favorite that I've had in a while. We chose to eat in but they delivered everything in a paper bag anyways. Not bad for a little college spot. We got three dinners and an appetizer for around $55.
Meh. Ok American Chinese food. If you are used to really good chinese, you will be disappointed. Pretty good for the North Country tho...
Entree very good, paar fried rice not so much. Hot, fresh, quick, inexpensive.
The food is hot and delicious but the person who works the counter is rude that's why I rated 3 when I go to purchase something and I am the costumer I believe the clerk should treat you with kindness that's one of the things that brings me back to a restaurant is the kindness they show
Between this location and the one in Canton...this one is A LOT better. I have had pretty good luck with my food and it always is cooked well.
Honestly, their food was so good... and it's a shame that I have to rate them so low because it's better than any Chinese place in the area... But I have a severe allergy and had a reaction both times I ate there.. I don't know if they don't clean their grills or what but it's not safe for me to eat here.
First meal tasted like the cookware used for the previous dish had burned , and it was not tasty. The ribs were good. 2nd order of curry was ok, but not notable. And the 2nd order of bone in ribs were better the 2nd time around. There's not a lot to pick from in the area, so simple orders would be recommended.
This Chinese food is not spectacular, but, in a pinch, it is eatable. The atmosphere in the restaurant is not particularly inviting. I think most customers settle for takeouts rather than eating in the restaurant. The staff is pleasant and efficient.
The crab rangoon not one of the best but the shrimp and broccoli was amazing. Even the way they wrapped it up to reduce the level of mess from spilling out of the container was hands down is very helpful.
Most of the food is delicious. The only issue is that you will occasionally receive an aggressive person taking your order which may become annoyed very quickly if you do not understand their words.
Good food and ready fast but I’ve given generous tips on small orders and asked for sweet and sour sauce with my order thinking even if it costs extra that should cover it and never get it.
This place is standard fare American Chinese food. Perfectly average. No frills, no personality. Just mediocre, classic dishes like you would find anywhere. As a soup lover, I will make special note that the soups here are below average, even as far as these types of places go. Here's the thing. It's the only one in town. So if you want Chinese food, this will certainly do. And after you eat it, you will feel nothing. Neither happy nor sad. Simply content.
Authentic service (with a grumpy man at the counter) but not so authentic food. I don't blame them for adapting the taste to the local clientele, the lo mein is decent but the sweet and sour pork with rice is beyond my wildest imagination. As in I have no idea what I was eating. You come here for food not for the vibe/decors. It's a bit rundown but it's kind of charming at the same time with some 80s nostalgic feeling.
I ordered seafood and never got the lobster tail!
Ordered from canton restaurant. Soup was good. Fried rice was not good.
Sesame chicken was very hard and doughy. Very rude at the register.
Their food has lost its taste & Quality since Covid. More additives then meat. You're truly paying for all around less..
I haven't had the chance to try their food yet,but they do have bad customer service I called to order there, and an employee just kept saying "we are closed, we are closed" and then hung up on me when it wasn't even closed :(
It’s not the best. The chicken is ALWAYS hard and not much sauce on it. The rice also is kinda dry most times with a greasey flavor. Get this a lot but am ALWAYS dissatisfied. Only place really around so I’m thinking that’s why they are still open. Yuck
I was here for a 2 night stop...read reviews before I went in to order , so im a NYC GAL n im sorry but its a NO thank for me ..
The vegetable lomein smelled like a dirty sock and tasted even worse. My one other food was good.
Food tasted fine, I got general tso chicken and spare ribs (boneless). It was fine tasting but it got me sick, cussing me to vomit and writh around in stomach pain. The service was short and rude, not to mention the driver had be come out to his car to get the food from him? It got me violently sick. Do not go here.
Let me start by saying the counter people definitely are very rude . We ordered the chicken with peanut sauce ,sliced roast pork, pan fried wontons with garlic sauce and a beef and broccoli. All dishes came very heavy with sauces it's almost like gravy on everything it's gel sauces n overpower what your eating. You can't taste the food since sauces are so heavy like jell .If there was other options in town this place would be out of business .For anyone that thinks this is good Chinese food You need to go downtown to Chinatown in NYC and try real Chinese food... Best part of meal was the egg roll very good... I could have just ordered a half a dozen egg rolls and been happy lol.. Go with these expectations and you won't be disappointed
This was my first time trying any chinese restaurants since moving to the area and i was supremely disappointed. The only sort of edible item was the General's chicken but that was mostly breading. The lo mien, the chicken broccoli and the "fried" rice were hard to swallow, legitimately. i've eaten chinese food all over The World and this was definitely some of the worst that i've ever had; most of it went in the trash. Straight up gross, yo.
I have been coming here when I visit family, for over 25 years. The food used to be pretty good. It's still ok, but the staff is incredibly rude. Ordered Kung pow chicken combo got literally 4 half square inch pieces of chicken and the rest was peppers and onions! The bean curd dish was super bland, and anyone saying it's the best around, it's the ONLY Chinese food around there and I'm sure they know it. They haven't updated the inside in 25+ years and the whole place just feels dirty. Never returning to this place. They need to do better.
Took over an hour for food to be delivered to a place that was 5 min away from the place.
They laughed at me when I was trying to order messed up they were rude
Horrible customer service. They got our order wrong and refused to fix it or give any money back and then hung up on us.
Do you guys get your chicken from Buster's dumpster??? The chicken is always hard, the rice is always dry AND they are ALWAYS rude no matter what.
Food would taste better if the person taking wasn’t so rude and disrespectful.
This place sucks with everything way over cooked. Never eat there again
Bad customer service!!!!!!! I had to wait over a hour for my food and when I called to ask for my food the person was disrespectful.
first time ordering and this place is pushy on the phone. food taste like it was soaked in Soy sauce. I spent 25.00 and throw it all out gross 😝
Giving this one star because of the customer service, jeez! they're so darn rude and fresh! I remember speaking with a rep and he had a serious additude problem everytime I made an order. Not a good experience :/
Easily the WORST customer service ever!! Not everyone, but there was the woman I spoke to who had a serious attitude problem. Granted the food is not that good but at least be nice about it.
They are all very rude there and every time I have ordered from them it takes at least a half hour but this time they didn't even bring it and i had to fight them to refund me. DON'T GO THERE
Rudest people ever!! I placed an order to have picked up by someone else and she refused to take my card info over the phone when i was buying not the person picking it up. Not to mention she yelled at me while ordering to HURRY UP!!! Never again!! I’ll drive an hour before i order from them again!
Rude guy behind the counter acted like he had no time to take my order and then acted like i should of known the menu by heart. Tilting his head back-and-forth with an impatient/irritated look on his face cuz i wasnt being quick enough with my choices of food and I WAS THE ONLY ONE THERE ORDERING!!! i wanted to only give a half a star but its not a choice. First impression do impact the business you get!!!
It's not bad Chinese food, but every time I'm craving Chinese food I hesitate to order at the canton location. Being that college students are their most prominent customer, you would think that they would have patience or not be disrespectful to the customers who are their most frequent ones. However, EVERYTIME I have ordered food from A1 the people there have been rude. There was even a time that I ordered and they took two hours and a half - no exaggeration - to deliver my food. The money was already charged to my card and when I called them they told me that I wasn't allowed to get a refund. The person on the phone also called the delivery car and told them not to give me my food. So not only was I being disrespected, but I was charged for food that I was not getting. I've just had countless situations where they have been disrespectful and its uncalled for. The only reason in which I continue to order from there is because it's the only Chinese place in the area. I think they know that no matter what, they'll have business because of it and so they don't care about the customer what's so ever. Why be rude to someone willing to spend money on your establishment?
I've tried different times to ask questions about the food and how the dish comes, I don't know if they just expect everyone to know. He always shows me reluctant to "sell" his food to me. As I was trying to order and receiving no direction I complained and was refused service.
I have found hair not just once but multiple times cooked into the food so I know it’s their’s. (I’ve given them multiple shots because I tried to get over it the first time). But also, their food always makes me feel super nauseous afterwards. I don’t know if it has anything to do with the way they cook the food (with hairs in it) but I still feel sick 8 hours after eating. And customer service is subpar like the rest of the reviews. I’m done eating here.
Since Covid we've been very disappointed in their food. This was our favorite take out for 25 years, but now their General Tsao is either too hard to chew or too spicy to eat. We ordered chicken balls this week and they were so hard we had to toss them out. I miss the old A-1 kitchen where the food was fresh and consistently the same.
Very RUDE LADY at the counter. Customer Service is very important and I will never go there again.
