I first started eating here in the 70’s when Oma (grandma) was cooking and meeting customers at the door. Her tradition of excellence has never stopped. A MUST visit while in the Hill Country

One of my favorite places around Canyon Lake. The owners grandparents started the restaurant, and the stone masonry from that era is marvelous! The food is always good, prices are very reasonable... And the wait staff are friendly, helpful and make you feel like you're home. A place to see, and eat at if you're in the area...

What a wonderful lunch!!!! Heads up.. cash or check only! The menu isn't super impressive but it has a lot of variety. The lunch special today was awesome. I LOVED sliced tomatoes as a side....they were fresh and delicious and tasted home grown. Wait staff is super nice and accommodating. Hot tea set up was great....although they did not have a decaf tea option. Cod was cooked in too hot oil....or for too long..but not too bad....a great substitution for shrimp that was the special. We appreciated them making an accomodation for us. I love the whole meal....even the yellow cake with homemade icing....just simply delicious. Prices are very inexpensive...the decor is very dated, but the food and service scream top notch! So glad to have had lunch here and will go back as soon as I can!

Chili cheese fries!!! The prices were so right! Breakfast all day!! Yummy!! I was nervous to try bc the pictures here looked like it was cafeteria food.. but it’s way more than that!! I haven’t seen that much cheese on some fries in a while and their prices!!! It is cash or checks only. Give this place a try! Also we got patty melt and steak and eggs!! Not pictured! Their biscuits are made from scratch and so wonderful!! Looking forward to go back!

Startz Café is a local favorite place to go for breakfast! It is straight up comfort food. The breakfasts are like the ones you get when you go visit your grandma! Make sure you go early cause they get busy very quick and stay busy until they close.

I loved the food! this is an amazing place to go! took awhile but it was a busy night. It took 40 minutes for us to get a menu to look at, 20 minutes to get our drinks, and like another hour to get our food. But it was worth the wait! i got chicken fried steak and it was perfect hot and crispy with delicious gravy! I had an okay time with family and was full after!!!!

Starts Cafe was a good visit after a weekend at the lake. The food I ordered was breakfast items such as 🥖 bread, 🥓 bacon, 🍳 eggs, and potato 🥔. The food was delicious and fresh. The only concern was that the food took an extremely long time to come out. They were really busy as well maybe that’s why it took so long to be ready. But nevertheless food was good just long wait time. Possibly increasing the number of cooks during peak hours would be beneficial. Anyway will stop by again with more time. They have an open concept inside the restaurant.

The food was good, just ok, nothing to write home about. The servings were great. My hash browns had no flavor, but my sausage and gravy was good. The rest of my family had hamburgers which they said was good, but like any other burger and fries. The waitress was the best, as was the atmosphere. I loved where they put extra straws. We will be going back the next time we go back to Canyon Lake.

Cash or check only. Rustic and quaint dining room included pinball, Pacman, pool table, and jukebox. Menu is country home cooking. Breakfast and lunch are available, not open for dinner. We enjoyed prompt service and modest prices. My large burger and fries were good, and my wife raved about her chicken fried steak. The taco salad was good and also the enchiladas plate. Homemade desserts are available, too. A fun experience.

We stopped here for lunch. I ordered the fried fish and my wife ordered the hamburger steak. Both were delicious. This place has a lot of history, which they tell you about on the menu. They also have a pool table and a jukebox. We would have played a game, but we had a late lunch. This is stated on the Google page, but I wanted to reiterate. This restaurant is cash/check only. There is a Wells Fargo ATM right next door though.

Ordered the French toast breakfast. Unfortunately the French toast was bland. Just white bread dipped in egg, zero flavor. The server was super sweet about it. Wanted to offer something else but I couldn’t bring myself to try another bland meal. It’s a local hot spot so I guess it’s what locals enjoy. Just not for this foodie.
