So I saw a lot of mixed reviews about this place so was a little nervous. We went there for our 15 year anniversary and it was great. The server was attentive even though they were absolutely slammed. The "bread sticks" were actually way better then I thought they'd be. The entrees were cooked perfectly and flavorful. I did have to add some salt to my steak but the char was perfect and the sauces and horseradish butter on it were awesome. The dessert was a miss, definitely not creme brulee. More like pear custard. No caramelized sugar so it was a miss. But they let us pick the dessert because of our anniversary so we didn't mind dessert was a miss. Overall, I'd come back.

We were fortunate enough to sit upstairs! I didn’t even know there was an upstairs dining room and it had the best views! Amazing place with great service and delicious food. The Filet Mignon was cooked perfectly.

I cannot say enough good things about this amazing place with magical view! From the moment we walked in, the energy was vibrant and welcoming. The restaurant was absolutely packed, yet everything ran like a well-oiled machine. The customer service was top notch friendly, attentive, and professional staff who made us feel taken care of every step of the way. Despite the crowd, our orders came out fast, hot, and perfectly prepared, which is a testament to their efficiency and organization behind the scenes. The food quality was outstanding fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every bite was delicious and exceeded expectations. You could tell the kitchen takes real pride in what they serve. What impressed me most was how smoothly the entire restaurant operated even at peak time. It’s rare to see such a combination of excellent service, incredible food, and flawless execution in such a busy setting.

I came here for a bachelorette dinner and the food was great. I had the lobster and shrimp bisque and even though this restaurant is far from an ocean (and the east coast) it tasted excellent. The manager came around with tequila shots for us and our bride. She’s allergic to agave so he brought her back a shot of vodka. Would recommend taking photos out on the dock. The views and sunset are beautiful.

Gar Woods was my favorite meal in Tahoe! The atmosphere was perfect for enjoying the beauty of the lake. There was seating inside next to big open windows that made you feel like you were outside. There were also tons of seating options on the patio and pier. The drink menu was extensive, a must try is the Wet Woody. They also make their own chips with French onion dip which was delicious. We all enjoyed our meals and ordered desserts which were fantastic. It was a perfect spot for our family to enjoy our last night in Lake Tahoe.

Gar Woods Grill & Pier is a must-visit spot in Lake Tahoe for its stunning lakefront views and relaxed, inviting atmosphere. Whether you’re seated on the pier or down by the beach, the setting is absolutely unbeatable. The food is well-executed—my burger was juicy with a fresh, toasted bun, though I would have liked a few more fries on the plate. Service was friendly and efficient throughout the meal. The menu offers a great variety, and the wine list features some excellent California selections. Overall, Gar Woods combines great food, solid service, and one of the best dining views in Tahoe.

What an outstanding experience 🩷 I have no idea how they knew that it was our anniversary, but from the moment we arrived till the end, the employees were so kind, professional and pleasant. Especially Cole our amazing waiter. He was so attentive and kind. Restaurants need more Coles in their staffing. This is a simple no frill restaurant. Simple menu fresh produce and you must try their house made salt and vinegar chips, then end your meal with their delicious ice cream cake. All around, the view, the service, the atmosphere and Cole, made our experience an unforgettable one. Thank you. 🙏🏻

Gar Woods Grill is a staple in Tahoe city as you see large families gather here for dinner. The upbeat vibes are there to make every guest feel at home. The staff are friendly and serve well. The menu is very American and serves some hearty portions with traditional flavors. A great place for a family outing or a nice date. At Christmas time, they really let the holiday shine and feels like coming home for the best Christmas party. A definite must try in the area!

My wife and I have driven around Lake Tahoe twice and stopped here each time. You definitely can't beat the view of the lake, and it is worth a stop by for that regardless. We caught a cloudy day this time, but enjoyed the unobstructed view our last time a few years ago. Some locals, lots of tourists. This time, we stopped by for a snack and drink before heading to the airport. The wife got the Mai Tai, and it is a legit Mai Tai, as advertised. They didn't have the greatest selection of beer for me, but I landed on the non-local, but still quality Deshutes IPA. Alexis was our bartender, and she gave us great service. The bar area is pretty cool, and it wraps around between the two inside dining room. For nicer days, they have a great patio...with that view. We got the lobster shrimp bisque as our snack, and it was solid. There are lots of TV's, energetic background music, and the place will brighten your mood. The place is fun. It is a little pricey, and doesn't have as much as a local vibe as other places, but that is to be expected for its location, view, etc. I definitely recommend swinging by this place if in the area, and see you there (the NEXT time we are driving around the lake)...

This is a fun spot to stop at for a great lunch on the Lake. You'll find a dish on the menu that will satisfy you too. Don't forget to try the deep fried oreo beignets for desert. It was also great to hear and learn about the namesake of this location that honors Garfield "Gar" Wood. The food and atmosphere is great and it's also fun talking to the locals and visitors alike. Sitting on the deck and looking over the Lake is a relaxing and peaceful time. After lunch, take a stroll down the little pier and look out to the sierras and look down at the crystal clear water.

This place feels like an old, well‑established spot with lots of history — and the quality matches the atmosphere. They offer a full cocktail menu, though many drinks are rum‑based, so not all suited my taste. I ordered the house salad, which was nicely done with plenty of dressing and roasted walnuts. My friend had the prime rib, which he thought was excellent. We also shared crab cakes and lobster soup — both rich and flavorful, though a bit on the salty side. Overall, the food was great and the restaurant has a classic, timeless vibe. Just keep in mind it’s on the expensive side, so if you’re focused on value, this might not be your place.

Wet woodie cocktail was a slushy sweet delight. Get the prickly pear if you want a slushy but a little less sweet. Burger was solid. Ambiance was epic right on the water. Only 1 heater it was cold and just solid service.

Horrible experience with takeout at this restaurant. Called to place an order, hostess answered and put me on hold and waited about 20 minutes. Took my wife’s phone and called and they immediately answered and told me they do not do takeout orders over the phone (also said they are not busy at all and so order would not take long), meanwhile I was still on hold on got he other line so they clearly forgot about me. Not ideal but understand mistakes happen, so we drove down to do the order in person. Went to the bar and the girl took our order quickly which was great. No one mentioned anything however they did add a 20% tip to the order, not s huge deal as I normally do tip, but thought 20% is kind of high for takeout. Order did take quite of a bit of time, but again still not a huge deal. Finally get our order and saw the hostess on the way out. I mentioned to her that she left me on hold for 25 minutes and she started arguing how it was justified because they were so busy. Even though we were told it wasn’t that busy (which we also observed for ourself). She could have simply apologized for forgetting about us. We bring the food home, which is about 1 mile from the restaurant. All of the food was cold and incorrect. We got a chicken Caesar salad with dressing on the side. The salad had dressing all over it, and looked like it was pre made or something. The lettuce was all brown and wilted, with 3 very small strips of chicken in it. Not what you would expect for $30. Also ordered fried snapper tacos, what I got was some kind of grilled fish that was cold and awful tasting. Got an app of the ribs, and those were mostly fat. These 3 items cost us $100 and the food was not even edible. I understand takeout is not the same as in restaurant eating, but we had been hiking all day and just wanted to relax at home. Side note we did eat here the day before and the food and service was pretty good, albeit very expensive even for this area on the lake. I would definitely AVOID here for takeout!
