Great food, reasonably priced, great portion sizes! We drive 30 minutes to go here because my husband loves this place. We recommend visiting and we've returned a few times. We've never dined in, but it's always full & they have a ton of pick-up orders!

I finally had a chance to try the China Star at 1647 Babcock Rd, San Antonio, TX 78229. I had the lunch combo plate and it was huge. The Mongolian beef and General Tao chicken were both very tasty as well as the fried rice, eggroll and soup. All this was $11.25. The staff were all extremely nice as well. This is a no frills - hole in the wall place but its clean and definitely worth a visit!😁

Bueno bonito barrato, plenty of food for the price. Place is dark and dingy but the food is good wish they had better lighting in the place. Ordered combination low lemein and never could go wrong with that also the beef and broccoli is amazing. The plate comes with cheese Rangoon or wing or egg roll and a soup. Egg drop is always good. I also order the sesame chicken it’s crispy and amazing. You will leave full and with enough for the next day so ask for a to go box.

For just under $7 you get soup, an egg roll and a great meal! It was delivered quickly and although this tiny restaurant was packed during lunch, I was well attended to. My server never missed a beat! The meal was good - I had the Kung Pao and it wasn’t very spicy but I enjoyed it very much. The egg drop soup was perfect and the egg roll was good. Everything about this place during lunch is quaint and fitting and it somehow takes you out of Texas - you forget where you are when you’re here! Will hopefully be visiting again soon.

Place wasn't that big inside and a bit too dim for my preference BUT the prices and food made up for it (I'll get it to go next time) The portion size was huge (pic doesn't do any justice) and the food was very flavorful. We got the combination lo mein and sweet and sour chicken plates with rice, egg roll, egg drop soup, and sweet tea....all for $19 I STRONGLY suggest if you're in the area definitely try it out, I mean you get huge portions with a great price!

Been coming here since I was kid with my family. Still come here and will always continue to come back. They aren’t out of this world and it’s small on the inside.. but they’re food is always delicious, good prices, and always have great lunch & dinner portions. My favorite.

The place is a small family owned business. However the service was awesome so was the food. You sit yourself and the host comes and it takes all of 10 minutes from the time you walk in to when you sit down to get your food. Huge portions that you will definitely be taking some home. It doesn't have a kids menu so if you have children that don't like Asian food this is not the place for them. For 3 people it was $21 so well worth it.

I have been purchasing food from this place for 10+ years now. They have always given you alot of food for a good price. I have dined in and ordered Togo. The dining area is small, a lot smaller since They had to close part of it during the pandemic but it is very quiet little place to dine. I wouldn't take a large group due to limited sitting. I have always liked the food and thought I always get my moneys worth if not more.

Food is great fed daily of 4 for 33$ Lunch discussion ends at 5pm. Includes entre, app, soup. So good. Would recommend take out a establishment is small. Service is okay Asian lady may come off difficult, but I think it's a language and culture difference. Also seems to be only 2 ladies working the front so they are probably always in a rush. Would recommend.

This was our first visit. We chose dine in style. The restaurant is very small and dim lighted. For someone like me, it was hard to see anything, especially coming in from the bright sun. Most of the tables were dirty... meaning sticky and had previous customer's rice particles. We ordered from the lunch menu: *Sesame chicken with steamed rice Egg drop soup Egg roll *Mongolian beef with fried rice Upgraded wanton soup Egg roll Both of us drank sweet tea. The Egg drop soup was very salty but tasted delicious. Some of the best I've had. Usually places water it down but this one was on the thick side so if you don't like that slimey thick egg yolk texture then you won't like this one. Husband said the wanton soup was also salty and claimed it was good but he's had better. Did say the noodles were cooked just right but the flavor was lacking. Sesame chicken was plentiful and looked amazing full of sauce. Unfortunately, it had no flavor at all. It was spicey but even that you couldn't taste. You could just feel the nice little burn it had. The chicken didn't have any salt either. I had to put chili oil, soy sauce, sweet and sour sauce to try and help the flavor but nothing helped. The chicken texture was cooked well done. Some pieces were crunchy other were tender. The breading to chicken ratio was perfect on my plate. I had more chicken than breading, which is always a positive. Mongolian beef, hubby said it had no flavor as well. The fried rice tasted bland as well. He said even the vegetables didn't add anything to the dish. Some meat was chewey, he said. He did like the portion size. He also said it was sauced up very well but said there was no other flavor than the spice hitting the back of his throat. His plate had a plentiful amount of beef to vegetables ratio. Which again is a win. Egg roll tasted delicious to us with the sweet and sour sauce. This egg roll does not have ginger in it like many places put now. It tasted subtle but at least had some flavor. It was crunchy and cooked perfectly. Pretty much the star of the lunch. The sweet tea was perfect. Not overly sweet and a nice light tea flavor. Very refreshing in this heat. Our waitress was extremely nice. She kept her cheery attitude even with some rude customers. She was the only one running the tables and did an excellent job. It seems majority of the people that go there are regulars and she remembers them all. I like that makes it feel like you're visiting a friend or family. The lady at the cash register is plainly business so she can come off as rude or cold. Overall I give it 4 out of 5. I had to dock a point because the flavor of the food is bland. I do recommend if you are on a tight budget and need a lot of food. I think the price is amazing for the quantity you receive. Total before tip: $24.25

The price point was great because you get all 3 the eggroll, soup, and plate. The rice and eggroll were delicious. I got the sesame chicken and it was lacking. It was mostly breading and not much chicken. I got the hot and sour soup and it was super sweet. I did not like it. Honestly it had potential but maybe I went on a wrong day or they had a different cook that day but I did not like it. The service was great so no complains there.

First time here and I have to say it was okay the egg drop soup was great, the sweet tea was great as well as our appetizer but the main entrees were not the best I ordered Kung pow shrimp and my boyfriend ordered the chop suey with beef the portions were great and the prices was perfect but there wasn’t as much flavor as one would like within our dishes which is very sad and when it comes to the service the waitress was very good at being attentive but a little too attentive to the point where I was feeling rushed to order.

The atmosphere should indicate the food. Won ton soup was room temperature as with the lemon sauce. Chicken was over cooked in some places to the point it was like jerky. Rice wasn't flavorful. I don't know why they have so many good reviews. What I had was memorable enough for me to not return.

Went in today during a lunch rush which i completely understand can be crazy busy. Was super excited to try this place after many people raved about it you know on TikTok. As SOON as we sat down we were met with attitude. The lady legitimately threw the menus onto our table. There was only one person for all the tables. Our food came out but my sons and it had been quite a minute and we weren’t told whether it was running behind or anything which ok cool I’m a patient person. Mind you this lady was SCATTERED so i wasn’t going to just immediately ask but when i did she yelled “ITS COMING IT NOT READY YET” and stormed into the kitchen. We laughed and even a guy waiting for his take out laughed because WHAATTT?? Idk i mean overall food was mid. There’s better Chinese food literally anywhere else here in SA. Service was just below terrible. BUT their portions go crazy for the price. Personally, wouldn’t come here again but if you like okay food and on a very tight budget then by all means.

I met a friend for lunch at China Star today and unfortunately the experience was very disappointing. I asked about ordering an item that wasn’t listed on the lunch menu, and the waitress responded rudely, saying that most customers order from the lunch menu. I replied that I understood that most customers order off the lunch menu, but if that meant everything on the regular menu was excluded. When I told her what I wanted to order, she said, “We don’t have time to make that,” which completely caught me off guard. I was honestly appalled. Thankfully, another staff member overheard the conversation and said they could make the dish. Our waitress’s attitude made us feel like anything we asked for was a bother. The food itself was delicious, but the customer service was extremely poor. After this experience and the way we were treated we won’t be returning.
