El Fenix is a TexMex staple. Consistently perfect and always has your favorite menu item available. They will try out new ideas from time to time and I have not been disappointed. El Fenix always hits the mark with their guacamole, this last time I don't know how they did it, but it was even better. There is a reason they have been around for as long as they have been - they care about their food and people.
Great service and food , excellent place to always go to have a wonderful hot dinner. Nohemy was our server and she was incredible. Mary the manager always is so kind and amazing too.
A family favorite for decades! Over the years we have tried most of the menu. Favorites include enchiladas (beef or chicken), tamales, fajitas, quesadillas, the various grilled chicken dishes, tacos, queso, and the chips and tortillas! Oh, and the sopapillas! This time we had chicken fajitas!
I came along with my Mom and her friends from junior high, the experience was amazing. Our server Brian was a sweetheart, and the manager just as nice and amazing. Very nice food, and atmosphere. Ask for Brian whenever you come, he was so attentive and patient. Amazing experience overall 10/10.
This El Fenix is always so delicious and the staff is very friendly. We come here often and enjoy it every time. It’s a bit of a drive for us and well worth it.
Some time ago I discovered this Mexican restaurant and have been a regular ever since. The combination of traditional Mexican flavors with American twists is just right, and their dishes are consistently good. So good. Their menu has something for everyone, and the food is worth it.
We visited the EL FENIX restaurant off of North Central & 75 after church. Our server, Ricardo, was very attentive and provided great friendly service. He greeted us and provided warm chips & individual salsa cups and was very pleasant as he took our drink and food orders. There were three people in our group and we all enjoyed our delicious meals from the menu. We couldn’t believe how large the portions were which included chicken and steak burritos and shredded chicken quesadillas. Of course, each of us requested to go boxes for later. We highly recommend this restaurant if you’re looking for great, authentic, Mexican food! Thanks Ricardo, you’re the best!
Fantastic Restaurant. Mary the manager is the absolute best. Stopped in a few days ago .Mary was kind , Attentive and super fast. I'm grateful for the service and the high quality food. Real Review for a Real El Fenix Fan Karl Kennerly
El Fenix is always my favorite Mexican restaurant. They have great service, a Fanta selection of menu. My go to is either Enchiladas or tamales and fajitas. Staffs are always friendly and they keep the chips and salsa coming. Parking for the restaurant can be challenging during busy times but there is a parking lot close too.
I have been coming to this location for years, but tonight was exceptional. We had Dante as our server and he made such an amazing difference in our dining experience tonight. He was very attentive and very helpful. He recommended the brisket tacos and they were just as delicious as he described them. We will definitely be coming back soon and we will be requesting Dante again.
El Fenix is a Dallas institution, and the food is real TexMex. My friend got the chicken enchiladas, which she loved, and I got a combo plate with cheese enchiladas and beef taco. No one can match the light as air tortilla chips that you get when seated with their homemade hot sauce. The service was very good. The only downside is that this location is showing wear and tear and should be remodeled.
According to the restaurant’s website, El Fenix has been in business since 1918. Now there are 14 restaurants across the metro area serving delicious Tex-Mex cuisine. I first visited the original El Fenix in Dallas in 1990 and this was my first visit to the Plano restaurant. The restaurant is colorfully decorated. The chips (with salsa) were really good. I ordered the El Jefe Plate. It was a lot of food—3 enchiladas, 1 beef tamale, 1 crispy beef taco, rice and refried beans. The chicken enchilada with sour cream sauce was so good! I highly recommend the sour cream sauce. I have photos of the dishes ordered by my dining companions but I cannot remember what they ordered. They said their orders were very tasty. We arrived during happy hour so I ordered a frozen margarita for $6. It was very good! For true Tex-Mex, El Fenix is my go-to.
Absolutely LOVED this place. I came I On a very hot day, my hotel wouldn't let me check in early, I had my suitcase and very large bag, it was a Lil late at lunch bit still very busy. They were all so nice, put me in an out of the way space for me and my belongings, The Food was great. The atmosphere awesome. I loved the music and the scenery. My server was nice and u git my food quickly and still very fresh. Anytime I visit the area, I plan to return

Nice surroundings. Pleasant wait staff. Great enchiladas. Cool and restful place out of the Texas sun. The queso is to die for!
I like El Fenix. I've been going there for decades. Usually for the Wednesday enchilada special. Everything I've ever gotten there is good. I like the hot sauce and thin chips. And the fact they don't charge you for tortillas. On enchilada Wednesday after I order I am usually served piping hot and fresh in about 5 minutes.
Took the whole family out for dinner. Had been here before and wanted the kids to try it. It's a really good place. Classic Mexican dishes no surprises no frills. Super nice staff lots of tables and seating, fun decor. Younger kids had tamales and enchiladas. Older kids had fajitas. We had chips with salsa and queso for an appetizer which was good. Wife got the fish tacos and I got steak fajitas. Overall a good place not terribly expensive we did try the flan for dessert which my wife thought was mostly disappointing. But when you've had authentic or homemade flan that's difficult to compare to.
The original El Fenix owned by the famous Martinez family is a shell of itself. When they sold out in 2008 change was immediate. The unique tortilla chips made on Harry Hines Blvd were discontinued. The hot sauce is a poor rendition. I’ve been a loyal customer since 1961 and must confess that I have become an infrequent diner. That being said today’s enchilada dinner and tamales were very good. Another positive is the retention of the restaurant and it’s contents adds to the feeling of home.( Nostalgia) Photos on the walls show the Martinez Brothers and famous Dallas Cowboys Roger Staubach- Bob Lilly! Being the oldest chain of Mexican restaurants in the US ( founded 1918 in Dallas) says much about the foundation of its food, culture, history, and beloved customers. Compared to other chains it still stands tall. If you like Tex - Mex eat here.
I was out running errands yesterday and had the hankering for some good Mexican food and just as I thought that I saw a sign for El Fenix. It is located right off of 75 in Plano. I had never been to this location so decided to give it a try. I was seated right away, was brought a menu, chips and iced tea very quickly. Server was attentive and brought everything I needed. I decided to order from the lunch menu, I went with sour cream sauce, rice and beans. I should have specified to bring the soup out first, both were sent out together. The cheese, rice, tortillas were served and a bowl and the broth came in a container that was poured over top. The soup had a good flavor but it was a bit cold. The enchilada rice and beans were good as well. The interior of the restaurant is pretty standard. They have a mural painted on the back wall, with traditional Mexican decor on the walls. There is a small bar tucked into the back and several rooms for dining. Overall, good experience. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

We revisited for a second time and were a little disappointed. The waiter was all over the restaurant with tables spread out. All of our food was cold and the gentleman that we were with his food was incorrect. The waiter look dumbfounded as in what to do for both situations. His food was replaced with the correct toppings for the relleno and the other person's food was remade and hot. It's a disappointment when you go out to eat and the price for food is 2025 prices and it's not hot. I'm glad it got fixed in the end. Not sure if there is a return to this location in our future.
I didn't actually eat at this restaurant, I had food from this restaurant. The office I work at in Richardson brings in different restaurants each day to provide food for employees. The restaurants vary from day to day and week to week. You can order from a set menu and pick it up or, you can order from them when they set up in office. I saw that El Fenix was the featured restaurant that day and I've never eaten there so I was excited to try it. I ordered the combo meal with chicken tacos. It came with rice and beans. Overall, it was good considering it was food that they brought into our office and not directly from the restaurant. The portions were good and the price was fair. On the plus side, the portion size/value and convenience. On the negative side, I wish it came with some kind of salsa or pico de gallo because it could have used a little heat. The flavor was good but mild. The beans were very dry and could have used some salsa or something. I would guess if you ate in the restaurant the meal would have been served with chips and salsa. However, this way everything was extra. Chips and salsa, etc. And it would have been nice if it at least came with a small portion of chips and salsa.

Place is never good. Their tortilla soup does not come with chicken, only place I have ever experienced this and I was raised on Tex mex. So basically it's $10 for a cup of broth. Garbage
Ice cold food! What I did eat was bland NEVER AGAIN I thought Texans knew how to make mexican food. If you want mexican food look else ware.

The service was perfect and the decor is very novelty but the food was not good. The food is very greasy and is comparable to elementary school fair food. This includes the chips and salsa. If you come here for yourself, I recommend avoiding the Botana Sampler.
LOOK OUT! The chips are now TERRIBLE‼️.ok, new owners this year. Fine. But weeks ago this new group sent the wrong chips! Apparently, our dear manager must simply wait a couple more weeks! October 2, 2025. Rest was just ok. Shame on these new owners. 60+ years of good food — down the drain. Julie
