Liberty Bagels 5th Ave serves up classic New York bagels that are hand-rolled, freshly boiled and baked, with a delicious variety of spreads and sandwiches that keep both tourists and locals coming back for more. Despite the often long line, the quick service and flavorful breakfast options make it worth the stop before exploring Midtown Manhattan.
I’ve had my fair share of bagels in New York City, but Liberty Bagels is operating on a completely different level. I stopped in for a classic Everything Bagel with plain cream cheese, and it was easily one of the best breakfast decisions I’ve made in a long time. First, the bagel itself is a masterpiece. It’s huge, hand-rolled, and kettle-boiled, which gives it that essential, distinctively shiny and crispy crust that snaps when you bite into it. The inside is perfectly doughy and chewy without being heavy or dense—just the right amount of fluffiness. But the real game-changer is the seasoning. A lot of places skimp on the toppings, but Liberty loads their Everything Bagels with a dense coating of poppy seeds, sesame seeds, onion, garlic, and salt on both sides. You get that savory crunch in literally every single bite. Then there is the cream cheese. They do not hold back on the "schmear" here. It was incredibly fresh, thick, and tangy, perfectly balancing the salty, garlicky punch of the bagel. The ratio of bagel to cream cheese was generous, exactly how a real NYC bagel should be served. The shop itself has a great energy. It’s busy and bustling, which is usually a good sign, but the line moves surprisingly fast thanks to the efficient staff. Even with the crowd, the service was friendly and on point. If you are looking for the quintessential New York bagel experience, do not skip this place. It is absolutely worth the hype and the wait. I’m already planning my next trip back!
I’m from Chicago…..when I visit NYC, bagels are a must! Liberty bagels are so good. I will crave them when I’m gone. This particular location has superb service. And the manager is so kind; he carried a girl in a wheelchair up and down the steps to the store. So it’s just all around my favorite bagel spot.
Yummy bagels, lots of options. Cream cheese Heaven. Cashier was hard to talk to and there was a small order mix up, but that’s okay!!!! Overall this place was awesome. Lived up to the hype 💯
This place rocks, one of the best bagels I've had for sure! Food: I got one bacon egg and cheese sandwich on everything bagel, and one strawberry cream cheese on french toast bagel. Both were extremely tasty, but I'll give a special shoutout to the french toast bagel and strawberry cream cheese. they are quite generous with their cream cheese, and the bagel was baked perfectly - light, sweet, and chewy. Service: No complaints here. Got my food quickly and only waited 5 mins or so, even after waiting in line for 10 mins. Atmosphere: Super fun vibes! This is the epidemy of an NYC bagel shop. Always busy, long lines that move quickly, limited seating, noisy, and fast-paced.
We went earlier on a Saturday morning and it wasn’t too busy; there were plenty of places to sit and almost no line. They have a lot of options for bagels, cream cheese, and sandwiches. I got the bacon egg and cheese on an everything bagel and it came out hot and fresh fairly quickly. The bagels are maybe not the best in nyc but still delicious.
This place was with the hype. I got the famous rainbow bagel w/ egg & bacon as well as their pizza bagel. Both were 10/10. I was not aware that you could order online, I wish I would have known because our wait in line was 50 minutes for these bagels. But hey, I say it’s all part of the experience.
A great albeit extremely busy bagel place in NYC. This place is usually disparaged as a tourist trap, but I tend to like tourist traps and this place is worth it in my opinion. They have a wide selection of bagels and cream cheeses that you rarely see outside the city. I got the Novie which is their take on a lox bagel. It was very good and well portioned. Just make sure you get napkins there because they do not put them in the bag which is tragic considering how messy the sandwich is with the healthy amounts of cream cheese they put in it. Even though the place is a madhouse, the staff do a good job of keeping the line moving and bringing the orders out quickly, So you will not be waiting an extraordinary amount of time. This is definitely a must-stop if you want a quality NYC bagel sandwich.
First trip to Liberty Bagels and the bagels are fresh and perfect! Service is fast. There was no line but I guess it’s off season for the city. I didn’t mind only having to wait 5 mins for my order. Definitely recommend. Went back and got 4 more to take home with me. Wish I could have tried them all. I’ll be back next time I am in town!
Go to place for a Bagel ❤️ the egg, bacon and cheese is incredible and you can tell their bagels are great. There’s also a huge variety of toppings. Service was great, despite it being incredibly busy. Definitely worth the wait. Coffee is definitely the only weak point of an otherwise incredible place.
This place was SO good!! The bagels were fresh, soft, and perfectly toasted — seriously one of the best breakfast sandwiches I’ve ever had. The eggs were fluffy, the cheese melted just right, and everything was packed with flavor. The whole place has such a cozy, laid-back vibe with great music and a fun city feel by the window. The staff was super friendly and made us feel really welcome, which just added to the experience. Definitely coming back again — totally worth it! 🥯✨
Our first time in New York – of course we had to try some bagels for breakfast! My boyfriend and I went to Liberty Bagels, right near the Plaza Hotel, and we were not disappointed. They offer a great variety of bagel combinations. We chose an everything bagel with cream cheese and a classic one with grilled pepper, cheese, and hummus. Both were super fresh and really delicious. The staff was friendly and quick – overall, a great experience. Would definitely recommend!
even though they’ve gotten super popular these days, this place remains my favorite bagel spot in new york city. The bagels are always fresh with high-quality ingredients. My favorite spread is the vegetable tofu - yummy, yummy! They never skimp on portions, and no matter how busy they are, they never disappoint.

So many options! I had the rainbow bagel with sausage, egg, and cheese and it was incredible. Not a lot of seating so be prepared for eating on the go.

Stopped by Liberty Bagels and had a solid breakfast. We tried a poppy bagel with cream cheese and lox, and an everything bagel with meat, eggs, and cheese — both were tasty and well-prepared. The place is busy, but there are a few tables to sit down if you want to enjoy your meal there. Service was friendly and efficient, and the bagels feel fresh and hearty. A reliable spot for a classic New York bagel experience.
They had sooo many bagels, toppings and cream cheeses. Looking at the enormous heaps of cream cheese you almost get the feeling like you're at an ice-cream place. Central park is on walking distance, and as the bagel shop isn't the most charming place to sit down, I'd definitely reccomend you enjoy your bagels in New York's largest escape from the city chaos. We got the toasted everything bagel with egg, avocado and scallion cream cheese; 10/10. The cream cheese was literally oozing out of the bagel. Warm and crunchy on the outside and soft and airy on the inside. Also the cinnamon raisin bagel with walnut honey cream cheese. Bagel was more dense. Would have been better toasted (but they don't toast the cinnamon bagels for some reason)
VERY busy but that speaks for itself. Very good bagels, a bit touristy, but it’s got a nice location and good proximity to central park if you’re going there afterwards. The Egg Everything bagel was very good with regular cream cheese, it’s a bit more depth compared to the traditional everything bagel, also doesn’t break the bank!

The bagel is not as dense as essa bagel but it taste a bit bland. I got the maple and bacon cream cheese. barely taste the maple and it needs a bit more bacon. Bagel was average and spread was a bit disappointing.
Very disappointed. Both of the bagels were WAY too salty. There aren't enough chairs for the number of places available. There are tables for four people with only two chairs, or sometimes even just one. Even when everyone is seated, there are empty spaces at the tables that could use a chair. It's a shame.
