Terrific experience. Breakfast was perfect and quick to us, two very hungry travelers. :)
Amazing cafe! The Lox Benedict was great - definitely recommend! The menu has lots to choose from and I’ve yet to be disappointed. Service is great and food comes out fast within 5-10 mins even when it’s a full house.
Morning Star Café is a reliable gem on 2nd Avenue, perfect for a classic New York diner experience. The food consistently hits the mark—especially the omelets and eggs . Service is fast and friendly, and the atmosphere is casual and welcoming. While it’s not fancy, it’s exactly what you want from a neighborhood staple. Ok value, great portions, and a true local feel make this a spot worth returning to.
Gabriel and Juan are the best....truly. Will always come back because I cant describe their hospitality and genuine kindness. Always reliable and a place to trust. They see you as a person and not just a dollar sign. They take care in what they do and take care of the people who come through. Whether its toast or soup...they make sure you are take care of like family. What a neighborhood should feel like. 💝 Thank you!
Excellent spot with fresh, hot and delicious breakfast! We had the Belgian waffle which was perfectly cooked. Also had a Grilled Cheese and BLT, both were delicious as well. Highly recommend for a hot, delicious breakfast, quick service and comfy atmosphere.
I had a wonderful breakfast at this The Morning Star Cafe and will definitely be back. The waffles were perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy inside - with good flavor. The croissant french toast was a new concept for me but delish. The breakfast sausage was flavorful and cooked just right. My coffee stayed hot throughout the meal, which I always appreciate - with several refills. Beyond the quality of the food, the service really stood out – our server was attentive and friendly without being overbearing. It’s the kind of place that gets the fundamentals right and makes you feel welcome. If you’re looking for a solid, satisfying breakfast, I’d highly recommend stopping by. This is a great breakfast spot.
The hospitality at Morning Star Cafe is truly remarkable. The staff is attentive and kind, often recognizing regular patrons and their favorite dishes. Their bilingual team adds a wonderful layer of service, as many employees speak Spanish fluently. The kitchen is remarkably efficient, delivering meals made with fresh ingredients and excellent maple syrup without a long wait. If you need the facilities, they are situated on the lower level. This cafe is a perfect choice for a high-quality, friendly breakfast.
Awesome place for breakfast/brunch in Manhattan. Family run, excellent service & food, authentic atmosphere as well like it, and very reasonable prices. Definitely returning next time in New York City
We showed up with a big group, but they found tables for us right away and served us well. Their attention to ingredient selection shows. The team cares about customer satisfaction and food standards. Sensible prices, quality service, and delicious meals await. I'll return to this restaurant gladly.
My family and I ate at this charming ittle cafe while visiting NYC last week. it was close to our hotel and not too far of a walk from Rockefeller center area. We were immediately greeted when we entered and encouraged to sit anywhere. The menu was quite large with lots of great breakfast, lunch, dinner and salad options. Breakfast is served all day here! We ordered an Omelette, Waffle, salad and a side of grapefruit. All the food was absolutely delicious! The staff was very friendly and service-oriented. The restaurant was very clean and the atmosphere was charming. We will definitely be coming back again the next time we go back to NYC!
This place was really, really good. I didn’t think it was going to be anything special. But I ordered the croissant French toast, 2 scrambled eggs and sausage. The French toast was huge! And it was just one piece; they offer two. The sausage was probably the best thing. It was the fat links but I think they deep fry them because they were crispy and delicious! I will probably go there again for breakfast and I’m only in NY for 4 days.
Good place for breakfast for sure. We had eggs Florentine on spinach which my wife enjoyed. Son Philly cheese stake wrap, which was tasty, filling alot, but heavy. I went for regular western omelette with exchange pf potato for fruit salad for 2usd. Daughter had some pancakes, probably the weakest dish. Bacon is very tasty, well prepared how it should be. One thing spoiled the experience. They add automatically 18% tip. I know it is NY, but for breakfast service, nothing special, at the place that seems local, friendly, for a European it is a surprise. It simply does not feel right they force an additional almost 20%. Everyone leaves something. This thing about this place we did not like. Not for morning 40 minute simple breakfast. It made the whole value wrong. Instead of 90 usd bill you get almost 110 for breakfast (4 people). We fed the 5th person with this. Increase the prices and let people decide whether they tip you, how much or not.
My first breakfast in New York City and I came with an appetite. The food was great and I would have taken a picture of my eggs but I forgot. ha! The waitress was attentive and kept the coffee cup full. The pancakes and blueberries were on point. Just know if you’re eating at a sit-down restaurant in the city, you’re gonna pay a bit more. Bacon, 2 eggs, 2 pancakes and blueberries= $25 + tip. Still a great place for breakfast among the many places in this city. And their sign says breakfast served all day.
I’ve been here a few times now for breakfast and always had a good experience. The Philly omelet is very good, as is the farmers one too. I tend to have the salad instead of home fries, but that’s just me. The pancakes are also excellent. Definitely worth a visit, and it’s 24 hours for part of the week.

Great place for breakfast with lots of menu items to pick from. Service was good and the place was packed. Cafe atmosphere you need to go visit.
The staff were very attentive and the space was very cozy and clean. The French onion soup was great and a really decent portion as an add on to a main dish.
Really decent cafe for Breakfast, with loads of options. Food was delivered quickly and was tasty. Pancakes were great. Glad we popped in.

Terrific breakfast with lots of options.. everything reasonably priced (cheap for NYC) staff very attentive and friendly. Clean, comfortable space.

Awesome blueberry pancakes (see photo), and overall great comfort food experience. Came back another day and tried their burger. They got the meat wrong: served medium well while I ordered medium rare. The burger was good though: juicy and with a good amount of mushrooms and Swiss cheese.

Nice people, good music. Friendly vibes. Mimosas come with pulp, eh, they're ok. Ordered challah French toast and Greek yogurt. Missing latkes from the menu.

a real tourist trap for our first breakfast in NYC, they charge an 18% service fee (which we only found there), and on top of that the usual 18-20% tip, so basically you tip twice.., on top of that…
This is my “go to” place for breakfast in New York. Okay, there are plenty of other places which are probably nicer, but when all you need is convenience and good food reasonably priced, this place…
Rustic diner with an extensive menu. We went here for breakfast and left with a full stomach and happy, in spite of the typical American diner coffee. I guess it’s part of the experience.
Experience varies wildly by who you have serving you. Some staff do excellent, some are doing the bare minimum. Home fries are terrible, avoid and ask for sub. Watch out for the 18% service charge they try to hide from you. Coffee is very weak.
The waffle was not edible. It was like a big piece of captain crunch cereal. I gave a piece away to a friend who dined with me and they couldn't choke it down either. They did not charge me for the waffle and their French toast was actually pretty good. But over all I can not recommend the food. The service was good and the people very polite.
There wasn't much wrong with the food, but the service was absolutely horrible. I got there, and the server didn't come to take our order for about 10 minutes -- there was maybe one other table occupied in the restaurant. They took too long to deliver the food, and once we finished, we had to wait way too long for them to deliver the check. Our waiter was very good with refilling our waters, but he brought the pitcher over when we asked for the check. Then, when we were splitting our bill, and one of our party didn't have his card ready, he didn't come back for five minutes, and we had to go up to pay.
Dined here alone today for a quick breakfast (I live next door) and had a really uncomfortable experience at the end. I’m a regular and the food is amazing as always. Service is usually fast and efficient, which is why I keep coming back. But this time, a service fee was added for a single guest without it being clearly explained upfront. When I asked about it, the staff member (young shorter guy) acted confused and said he wasn’t sure whether it was included, even though he had just prepared the check. What made this unacceptable was that when another guest asked if his tip was included, the staff member said “no” and then added something like “some folks don’t know…”, while I was standing right there. That kind of commentary is disrespectful and came across as profiling. I tip 20%+ every time. The issue was the attitude - being treated like I wouldn’t tip, and being talked about instead of talked to. It also felt like I was being judged based on my accent and language. I hope this was a one-off and it is handled more professionally moving forward.
