I don't usually go to this type of restaurant, but someone recommended it to me, and I decided to go with my family. And I must say they were right: the food was delicious and the service was excellent. I loved it, and we'll definitely be back

What an awesome experience! Been seeing Black Bear Diner in Harker Heights, for quite sometime, driving by and telling my wife, we need to try that place. Glad we decided to and we will be back. Amazing service, not expensive, huge portions of food, comfortable atmosphere, and plenty of options in their menu. Their breakfast looks legendary, and that is what I plan on trying next time I visit. I highly recommend Black Bear Diner.

This was the first time we visited this restaurant and it was delicious. The coffee was so good. So much on the menu, we didn't know what to try. I will say that the plates were plenty and filling. The service was excellent. Our waitress was very attentive and polite. We had a little issue with a sugar packet that busted and made a little mess on the table, so one of the bus boys cleaned it up right away. The meat omelet had a nice amount of meat in it. Oh, and those hash browns, delicious!!! The biscuits were homemade and fluffy, then with the gravy, it hit the spot. The bacon was big, thick, and not too crispy, but savory. The pancakes were perfectly made and tasty.

The restaurant was full but luckily I went in fast (5min). They have a mini store inside with a lot of bear items(memorabilia), stuff animals and candies. The food was great and the staff was very nice and helpful. The food portions are big and delicious, I paid $85 with military discount for four people.

My father and I stopped in this past Wednesday evening and it was a complete delight. Our server Liz (aka Elsa, aka Marquis jr. Lol) was awesome. She was funny and witty and showed great knowledge of the establishment and it's menu. And guys.... The portions... Holy cow the portions!!! In the pictures I provided it only shows my meal (doesn't even do the portions justice because I didn't put anything beside the plate for comparison) but the salad they brought my dad was big enough to feed three full grown big backs I tell-ya-what! You really get the BANG for your buck at this place! Food was excellent. I had the Chicken-pot-pie and baked potato and my big back self couldn't even finish! So if you got the fam in town and want a meal that you know will have leftovers to feast on for the rest of the farms visit, go here! You won't regret it!

The atmosphere was so on point, every detail was thought out very well! The food can be a little pricey, but with the big portions and tastiness id say you get your money worth! Servers were kind but kept things quick. Wait was a little long, (we waited a half hour) so plan ahead! We got the big bear bacon breakfast and bread pudding french toast! I will say if you get the bread pudding french toast plate you will need a big sweet tooth!

We came here for breakfast, we didn’t see anyone at the hostess stand so we just waited till someone came up to us. Then this lady gave us a booth in the back corner which is great but the cold air in that place was blasting so hard I got so chilly. Overall our waitress was nice this is our first time in a Black Bear Diner, so we needed a couple minutes to decide what we wanted. Everything looked good on the menu but we decided on “bears choice breakfast” which is what is pictured, our waitress came to let us know that the kitchen was backed up and it will take a while so she gave us some biscuits. We didn’t eat them right away cause we were waiting for our food but we definitely appreciate it, we ate them later and they are so delicious! Even though we waited a bit longer on the food it was delicious and the service is friendly. Very clean bathrooms will definitely want to come back.

The food was amazing. If a word could describe this place it would be “MAGNIFICENT”. I’m definitely glad we came here because I will most certainly bring my family and I will be back. Especially for the grits.. Seriously the best thing about the place was the news paper style menu. Y’all out did yourself with this. Great service and very friendly. As soon as you walk in, it was very warm welcoming. Lovely atmosphere. Our waiter exceeding expectations, above and beyond. 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

What a delightful establishment! I wish I discovered this restaurant sooner. They definitely give large portions. I wanted to try the chocolate cream pie, but by the end of the meal we were too stuffed to engage in a desert. Everything else we tried was delicious and left me with a smile. They have lots of options on the menu including all day breakfast. The whole restaurant experience at Black Bear Diner is created to make it feel wholesome and homey. The menu itself is really interesting, as it is designed like a newspaper. I wish they had more healthy side options. I already get a salad with the meal so I’m not getting another salad for the side. The green beans are also cooked with bacon which I’m sure people love, but I would prefer without. My biggest concern was the lack of timely refills on our drinks. We sucked those waters dry! Ultimately this restaurant feels like getting a nice hug from your grandparents. I would highly recommend it for any diner enthusiast.

This place was really nice. I was surprised to see such low prices for such nice food. Definitely a steal. I really enjoyed the selection of food and everything tasted great! I will definitely be coming back here! I highly suggest getting the chicken noodle soup and cornbread because it’s so fire.

She said she didn't need syrup. The place was clean, busy for a Monday late morning. A real jukebox. Lots of bears to purchase. Check it out.

The service here is very lackluster and needs improvement. You wait forever for a server to come over to your table. They barely checked in on you. Had to wait too long for a drink refill. Was not given extra napkins, server could not care less and coupd not be bothered, moved like a sloth for everything. Service started off ok but it instantly progressed, the food took longer than usual which we didn’t say anything but then my salad came out with the meal n not before like it had been on previous visits then the waitress forgot my cornbread that comes with the order, she never came back to see if we needed refills, I had to get up n go get napkins and our to go boxes, we had to go up front because she never came back with the bill omg but even after all that my mistake was ordering a chocolate cake. Anyway on the drive to hotel we realized she gave us cream pie instead n the manager was no help after her employee messed up she wants to inconvenience us by saying I needed to go back NOW if I wanted an exchange like girl we fresh out of work n we need a nap n after discussing with her how much of an inconvenience this is for us she wants to do a $5 discount on next visit like today is our last day in the area so that’s no good to us. As much as I wanted chocolate cake at this point I just want my refund.

What started out to be a pretty stong 4.5 star experience quickly degraded to a 3 star and by the end, it's generous to even give this place a single star rating. Immediate seating, but that has more to do with the timing of arrival. Waitress was going to be the shinning star that saved the rating but even she fell down before the end of our experience. Atmosphere was pleasant upon our arrival but quickly became as noisy as an emementary playground. That is an oversight by the corporate management who decided design and decore for this establishment. Numerous times I had to ask the person across the table to repeat a sentence because of the extraneous noise. Upon our arrival, carpets were clean but by the time of departure, littered with straw wrappers, paper napkins, dropped tableware, etc. The table immediately next to ours had a small child in a highchair who kept grabbing her mom's phone off the table and trowing it to the floor. This caused someone from the table to jump up and retrieve it each time. Sometimes, causing several people to shuffle chairs in order to get out from the table's and chair legs' trappings. Needless to say, each time, this caused a lot of commotion right next to us and after about the 5th time, the mom put the phone away so the child tore up the paper placemat and threw all the pieces on the floor. Which stayed on the floor as numerous wait and buss staff walked over it at least a hundred times. Finally, my wife got up from our table and picked up the pieces and handed them to the mother...at which point a server girl, jumped up and said: "I got that girl"!!! Yeah, riight! Too Late! Where was she for the last hour??? Why did we have to look at that trash on the floor for our entire meal? Next, Server was prompt and polite, good sense of humor and knowledgable about the dishes on the menu. Food arrived promptly but here's where the ratings begin to drop. Food was probably hot but placed on COLD plates. Food was barely tepid when it arrived. Grits were TOO hot so we're assuming the dish and all was microwaved. Unacceptible for a restaurant!!! Plain and simple...just not what you should pay for when a professional chef is on the payroll. Biscuits and gravy were cold before my first bite. Asked for additional gravy hopping to warm up the plate. It too arrived tepid but not hot and actually did nothing to help the cold food. By the time the meal was finished, it was being choked down but certainly not enjoyed. Ratings dropped down even further but still I thought the waitress and her professionalism could be the saving grace. Think again. Waitress never returned to check on our meal unless we flagged her down which we had to do at least three times during our ordeal. After we were completely finished with the meal and some of the dishes had been cleared away, we still waited for an hour without seeing or hearing from the waitress again. Had to flag her down for the check which even then took some time for her to return with a handheld device for credit card payment. With the number of new customers waiting for a table, this is a major point reduction against the management. A restaurant makes is money on seating turnover and a 2 hour seating for breafast cost them dearly. Prices: Some not to bad and somewhat expected, but 7.98 for two cups of coffee is a holdup with a gun to the head. Most places will provide extra gravy, when asked, at N/C. This place wanted an additional 1.49. Had I known that I would have sent it back for reheating. Based upon our first experience and the fact that there are enough other places to try, I see no reason to ever return to this Black Bear Diner. Nor can I recommend this to anyone who may have other choices to consider. It's clear to me that this place probably should not be in the food service nor the customer service business. But the silver lining here is that we should be glad these people are not our heart surgeons or our airline pilots. Update after response: I'd be glad to advise you on how to run your restaurant. My fee is $300

black bear diner experience was rough- 15 minutes with a room basically empty - the restaurant was maybe 20% capacity 12 or so people in there no service or hi or anything, finally got help, then the food was wow and not in a good way , the salad I got was the bottom drawer of the fridge in the leftover ignored freezer burned bag with slippery grossness and oozy edges , the carrots were like wet straw wrappers they had ZERO crunch or freshness to them. Grabbing the lettuce or carrots there was the oozy snot like jelly on the outside like mildew of an aquarium- (I simply wouldn't eat it ) The salad was just so bad - just totally unacceptable and then the plate of food came ...the dudes thumb was in my CFS gravy- it was just a terrible experience, .... the host guy tried to help by bringing part of the food and I could see it - thumb and fingers got gravy on them and he's playing off the gravy on his thumb and the drying finger print on the plate - such a turn off- went there a month after they opened years ago for a breakfast and was super busy and noisy but we didn't have a bad experience really, so now some time along - we tried again with less crowd , evening and well.... I'm sure someone will say that's not bad or you're a jerk customer or something lame, but we paid the bill , left a tip even tho we were ignored for 15+ minutes , and never given a refil or seen her until we were just ready to leave - but yeah- idk. Just wanted to rant . I'd assume a better experience based on other reviews. Just won't ever go back.
