Gluten free girl back here to tell you about an incredible spot for all foods accommodations if you want something delicious, filling, and an overall delight. I stopped in to grab some bites and appetizers while walking on Franklin street. I had no clue I would find one of my new favorite spots! I ordered the crispy plain dosa which came with a coriander, coconut, tomato sauce, and a soup. I had no clue how big it was until I’m arrived at the table. Thinking I would in no way finish it I was quickly surprised at how light and satisfying this meal was! Except for a few crumbs, I demolished the crispy dosa. The texture and flavor was unlike anything I’ve ever had and the type of bready but crispy flavor I have not been able to have because of my gluten food allergies. The fritters were also delicious and I wis I had a second stomach to eat more. Fortunately these will heat up perfectly at home. If you want an incredible place for a lunch alone (which I did) or a place to impress out of town friends, look no further! Add CholaNad to your must try restaurants!
What a sweet dinner spot! It’s quiet, thoughtful, artsy, and the food is carefully prepared and served with kindness. Order the Mysore Masala Dosa and the Lamb Vindaloo! Lovely , lovely, lovely ! 💕
A South Indian Culinary Gem. If you're craving authentic South Indian localised cuisine, Cholanad is a must-visit. My recent return after some time away revealed a delightful transformation, from a completely revamped menu to a rich and inviting ambiance. Parking was a breeze in their dedicated lot behind the restaurant, a definite plus. The staff was courteous and attentive, and the food arrived promptly. The menu boasts a wide array of options, including an impressive Thali and numerous appealing combos. While they don't offer a buffet, the extensive selection more than compensates. I opted for the Fish Kuzhambhu and fry combo, and it was exceptional. The generous portion included two pieces of perfectly fried fish and four substantial pieces in the flavorful curry – excellent value for the price. We also savored a very high quality Set dosa, Parotta, and Appam combo, accompanied by a rich Goat Milagu curry and a fragrant Chicken Curry. Every dish was a testament to authentic South Indian flavors. It was, without a doubt, one of the best South Indian meals I've had in a long time. Will sure return.
I have been searching far and wide for good south Indian cuisine!!!! This place is fantastic. So many flavors!!!! Decided to try the lemon ginger agave tea (although the saffron green tea looked good too) and the samosa appetizer was INCREDIBLE. So many options for Dosa too, I went with the pepper onion. Highly recommend :)
Absolutely one of the best Indian places around. The chicken tikka masala is really incredible, but THIS: we tried a new thing tonight called Masala navratan tartlets were absolutely unbelievable. It is this light flaky pastry bite filled with well flavored vegetables alongside dipping sauces. It is an absolute must to try. And they have a massive outdoor covered seating area, alongside an uncovered outdoor eating area. The atmosphere and food all around make for an excellent place without doubt.
Great food. Uh very great food. We were a party of 5 and we sat at the side near the bar. It was just us and another table so the server didnt check on us much near the end. The parking is horrendous but its not the restaurant's fault, just be aware. Food was amazing, big portions, and flavorful. Good vegetarian options too.
Had an excellent experience here. The staff was super knowledgeable and friendly! Shout out to Paul he was able to answer all of our questions and took the concern further by asking additional questions about allergy concerns we did not ask about/bring up. He was also in general a very great server. Our food was super tasty and I look forward to going back. We got the Dal Fritters (a must try!!), Chicken Biryani and Mango Pineapple Chicken. Sorry we ate the fritters to fast to get a photo. Had another excellent experience at CholaNad! As always the staff was amazing! We got the Dal Fritters again and tried Dosas! A new favorite for sure!
The food quantity is very less. The tawa fish fry especially for 13 dollars you only got one small fillet of fish. The curries we ordered butter chicken and vindaloo were decent. The best dish which I would definitely recommend is the pepper chicken from the appetizer menu, it's super delicious and very spicy perfect
It's our second time visit here in two years (they moved now to the building beside their previous place, literally the next block that is way bigger with patio space). The only (must be a student) waiter serving the whole restaurant did his job best, we appreciated him and he admitted it's due to the staffing issue. So the waiting was way longer than usual. The starter chicken 65 was outstanding! And the chicken gravy and roti (I saw sardar cooks, can't go wrong) were also good. The only complaint in both visits I feel that the plates are not warm enough or let's say it gets cold earlier (it's winter of course) and the Biryani we got doesn't looked like the authentic south Indian (no base of mint and spices, but it s a rice mixes with gravy and tossed fried onions and a boiled gee+chicken pieces from gravy). This restaurant have all potential to become no.1 on the RTP area, perhaps they wanna visit lime and lemon at Durham and learn some tricks of needed.
The food and decor is certainly nice the portions are also very large. Docking a star because it took a while for us to be acknowledged and seated and the price is rather high. $18 at lunch for a main dish that is effectively a large portion of chicken breast and some Naan. The food is good, I just can't get over the raw price of everything. $5 for one of their drinks such as rose milk.
I ordered a spicy chicken curry dish that was good, but I would say for the $25 that it was, the portion was incredibly small. Perhaps it's just priced like that because it's a restaurant on Franklin Street, but it wasn't worth it to me.
The food was good and the portions were just right. However the service was a bit underwhelming. My friend also went to the toilet and saw one of the staff wash their hands without soap. We have just gone through a pandemic and I would expect everyone to be extra aware of hygiene now so it was disappointing to hear that from my friend.
Ordered all vegetarian food. Masala dosa, plain dosa, spring dosa, malai kofta, butter naan, South Indian porotta, and some korma. The koftas were as solid as rocks. The dish was pretty darn salty. The potato subji in the masala dosa was not freshly made and was smelling. Most of us didn’t finish our meal. This restaurant used to be so good in the past but not anymore. That explains why there was no one else in the restaurant other than just 6 of us. Worth noting that the wait staff was very friendly.
I ordered Murton curry Authentic. style with bones. this taste good but probably gave me whatever last was available as it had mostly bones. I have no complain with food or service. yes thisnparticular dish was expansive for 28 Dollars. we had two more orders reasonably priced and will.not.complain about taste. My complain was we asked for.some extra chutney and curd . she said yes you can have and than charged money for that . and it was not reasonable to charge amount for that. When I complained bout the charge she was aarrogant to tell.me.how inflation is affecting buisness. Lady u are charging 28 Dollars for a mutton. curry. You have inflation adjusted in ur cost. They lost a customer for life. I still.say I have no complaint about food taste or quantity.
Awful. I got the chicken tikka masala — the chicken tasted old, and the sauce was runny and flavorless. My stomach immediately felt off. I used to really like this place, but now, I have no intention of coming back.
Literally the first time I have ever walked out of a restaurant. Had a 7:15p.m. Reservation. Arrived on time and told they could not seat us for 15-30 minutes. Got seated around 7:35 p.m. Finally had our order taken around 8 p.m. asked waiter to walk us through the menu as it was our first time dining there. He suggested one menu item and told us nothing more about the menu. We agreed. We also ordered bread and an appetizer. A full hour later, at 9 p.m., we had no bread or appetizer, certainly no main dish, and no apology or explanation. We walked out and went down the street to find food. No appetizer or bread an hour and. Forty five minutes past our reservation time. No apology. No explanation. Awful! What a terrible valentine’s dinner. 0/10 do not recommend!
Terrible service. We waited 40 min to get our drinks/appetizers. Then the staff immediately began bringing out our entrees with no room on the table so we had to rush to eat our appetizers. The food was the worst Indian food I have had in North Carolina and way over priced. In addition, they automatically charged us 30% tip without the option to remove it and no disclosure of automatic gratuity on the menu or spoken to us. The receipt was not itemized on the tablet so I’m not sure if the prices were wrong on the menu or if they do a high automatic gratuity.
This place is no more good spot to eat anything.. food is gross 🤢 watery tikka sauce, over cooked chicken, dose noway one part cooked half side not coocked too thick.. sambar old one, dose masala smelling obviously spoiled me and my girl visited this place last year for our 6th valentines day.. that day we order bunch of food which is so yummy and flavored..from that onwords its our favorite spot.. 2025 Christmas also we visited we ordered fish, gobhi Manchurian that one also good a week back she ordered food its not at all worthble for that high prices..worst indian food ever i ate... dose potato literally spoiled i got stomach upset.. nah..i think they dont have their previous chefs anymore.. don't waste your money..25 dollars for watery butter chicken.. insane! nomore going back to this place..
So we went to this restaurant in Nov so it was really cold weather like -2 and we are straving, so we ordered a chole curry and some veg curry with roti and we said to make LITTLE spicy and waiting, finally a guy came and placed the food on table and we started eating it and notice something is wearied. They add raw chill paste in the curries and made it extremely spicy. Three people in our group couldn't eat that food so they just left the restaurant. But any way I paid them and about to left and the a guy who workes in that restaurant called me back and said 1 dollar is less so I gave him and said, can I check the total again to make sure not missing any amount and he just smashed the money on table and said CHECK!!! I was shocked my that behavior and check the final amount and took the receipt and left.
Food lacked any flavor and it felt like reheated chicken and tilapia was used for appetizers. Whole fish which was their signature item lacked any flavor and it just had food color and chili powder with no salt and marination it requires, definitely not steamed in banana leaf as it was mentioned in the menu. Not coming back. Service was good, very attentive and understanding.
