I’ve been a customer at Hibachi & Co for five years, and I’ve never had a single issue. The service is always fast, the prices are reasonable, and the portions are huge! The teriyaki chicken is my favorite, and the sweet tea is great. It’s actually my dad’s favorite restaurant — and he lives three hours away. I even brought some home to him before his first cancer surgery, and it made him so happy. That meant a lot to both of us. I also love the punch card rewards and the consistently friendly staff. It’s a place we’ll keep coming back to!
I love that you get such large portions for reasonable prices. Every time I’ve come here, the staff is very friendly. It’s also a great place to dine-in if you want to people-watch in a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere.
This was our first time visiting with our son who is a student at UNC. It was great! Very reasonably priced. We all had the lunch special and drinks plus tip and it was only $28. The quantity was so much, we all had leftovers for another meal! The workers were super friendly and helpful!
The food here is pretty good. I don't have a complaint. HOWEVER, THE PROFESSIONALISM, KINDNESS, and ATTENTION to detail THAT ROOK provided us IS TOP OF THE LINE. HIS PERSONALITY CHANGED MY ENTIRE MOOD OF A LONG STREETS FULL DAY...OUTSTANDING AND VERY RESPECTFUL INDIVIDUAL. THIS YOUNG MAN WAS RASIED IN A DIFFERENT WAY THAN WHAT WE ARE EXPERIENCING ON A REGULAR BASIS NOW DAYS....HE NEEDS A RAISE. GIVE ROOK A SHOUT OUT AND TIP IF YOU MEET THIS GUY....YOU WILL SEE WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT...AND SO YOU KNOW, I DONT DO MANY REVIEWS...
I’ve been eating at this place for about 5 years now. One thing is consistent: the crappy styrofoam containers they put your food in. If you get togo, bring your own tupperware or don’t even try this place. By the time you get home you will have soy sauce dripping all over your utensils, soy sauce packets, and white sauce. Or you could end up like me and have all of your food be emptied into the bottom of the bag (this has happened on multiple occasions). Other than that the food is pretty good especially for the price. Hibachi and Co. please change your containers - they are terrible. Sincerely a broke college student who just wants to enjoy a meal without crashing out 🥲
Fair at best but I won't order again. Ordered hibachi steak and shrimp and a side of soba noodles. The shrimp and rice had a good flavor. White sauce was fine. Everything else (steak, zucchini, noodles) had the bitter taste of a grill that desperately needs to be cleaned. Carrots and zucchini were overcooked and limp. Portion size was good. There are plenty of other restaurants nearby with the same cuisine to chose from that are preferable.
$8.50 for a lunch special of lots of food is a steal! But the food is mediocre at best. Chicken did not taste Hibachi, and didn't taste very good at that. Fried rice was super greasy. Veggies were good, with the fresh large mushrooms and carrots cooked in sugar exceptional.
Food is extremely salty and shouldn’t be legal! If you have high blood pressure or serious health issues please stay far are from this establishment!!
Don’t even waste your time. I’m extremely disappointed. I used to frequent here about 2 years ago and I was in town and trusted that it was the same. Not. The “vegetables” are only zucchini and maybe a few carrots. The food is very bland and rice not fried at all. Don’t waste your money. Sad that it went down hill. Waste of $30
if I could give 0 stars I would I’m currently ill in the hospital and these people are playing in my food I called the restaurant and told them I’m allergic to corn eggs and mushrooms I asked the worker if it contains any of that because I have an allergy to it I break into hives and vomit I also asked for a soda bottle sprite but never did he mention they were out of soda so many problems no communication food was disgusting I couldn’t eat it but I can smell it and look at it anyway I have my receipt I called the store told them I had the food my proof I would like to be refunded because my instructions about my health were ignored and this is a food contamination problem I payed $40 and some lady who ain’t the manager told me I could only get food remade I can’t get my money back worse place ever dont eat her especially if you have allergy concern because they ignore your situation and give you what they want not what you asked for
DO NOT EAT HERE !!! I am sick ever since i ate this meal yesterday diarrhea / food poisoning !! i didn’t even finish this food I spent about $25 here I ask for shrimp hibachi with no vegetables my first time at this place I didn’t know I would have to pay for parking and walk 2 miles I couldn’t check my food right then & there by time I got home I noticed it was shrimp rice and big large round carrots I didn’t even have the energy to do back there ! I want my money back I’m going to dispute it with my bank I ate about 3 bites put it away then warm it up again and couldn’t even finish and there’s not even real Japanese people cooking the food this was not hibachi at all it was carrots shrimp and rice ! I WANT MY REFUND !
Beware of this restaurant! We ordered a delivery dinner for 5 to celebrate my moms birthday. . After 45 minutes the restaurant called to say part of the delivery was being delivered and the rest had been forgotten. I cancelled the order and asked for a refund. They only gave a partial refund. This was unethical and poor customer service. There are plenty of other good restaurants so avoid this place!
Older latin lady won’t bother to check if your delivery order still being prepared, instead just tells you not ready yet without confirming and makes you wait for an order that already been picked up. Educate your staff, there’s no parking available around the restaurant therefore time to waste around because one of your employee is too lazy to.
I don’t know what was up with the experience, but I was very disappointed. Using the board to order…I get it if it gets busy, but with 2 people standing around, doesn’t make sense. Food…biggest letdown. Hibachi Steak is typically one of my favorite meals to get anywhere. Everything from the steak to vegetables to rice was flavorless and bland. Soy sauce could not fix this. The best part was the salad (that’s a problem). Overall, not worth your money to go here. Too many places in Chapel Hill to eat that are better worth your money.
Their teriyaki is so bad. I’ve had chicken and shrimp from them, and the meals are literally DEVOID of teriyaki sauce???? The chicken looked and tasted like it had been thawed and cooked the day before, and the shrimp was okay other than not having any teriyaki sauce at all and the burnt zucchini. I don’t get the hype!!!
First let me begin by saying that this is the first and only review I have EVER left for a business. I've had my fair share of negative restaurant experiences, but my experience here on 04/27/2020 was by far one of the worst. Attached I have pictures of the "teriyaki chicken" I received from this restaurant and a picture of what teriyaki chicken is SUPPOSED to look like. I stopped into this place yesterday to pick up some dinner. My partner and I are in the process of moving to Winston-Salem and wanted to grab one last meal down Franklin Street. I was greeted by a young, white guy and woman at the front counter. I inquired about the difference between their hibachi and teriyaki chicken, and the woman told me that the teriyaki chicken is cooked in and comes covered in a "thick, sweet sauce". I ordered the teriyaki chicken with double the meat and extra zucchini. After receiving my order, I went home to eat. When I opened the to-go container, I was very surprised to see plain, white, fatty chunks of chicken with no sauce on them. I tasted the food and the chicken tasted just like it had been boiled with no seasoning whatsoever added. On top of that, the vegetables also tasted boiled and bland with no sign of sear on them. The rice was mushy and overcooked. I decided to go back to the restaurant, explain what happened, and politely ask for my meal to be re-made, because I did not receive what I paid for. Let me add that hibachi-style Japanese food is my favorite genre of food and this restaurant was a place that I frequented often during my time at UNC. When I got to the restaurant, I explained what happened to the young, white guy at the counter who seemed apologetic and told me to speak to the young woman I had spoken to before and she could help me. I assumed she held some sort of managerial position in the restaurant. I explained what happened again to the young woman and described to her how my food was not only unseasoned, but also tasted mushy and overall unappetizing. She just stood there, looked at me like I was stupid, and said, "Okay?". Taken aback by her obvious lack of care, I asked her if I could just have my food remade or have the cook add teriyaki sauce since what I had received was obviously NOT teriyaki chicken. She replied nonchalantly and told me that the food was most likely mushy because I had left it in the to-go container too long (which I had NOT) and that they would be unable to remake the food because it was prepared correctly the first time. I tried reasoning with her and I reminded her that she told me earlier that the chicken would be in a "thick, sweet sauce". She refuted this statement and insisted that the chicken, in fact was, cooked in the thick, sweet sauce. I told her that I can show her what my chicken looked like and it was obvious there was no sauce present on the chicken. She, once again, ignored this and told me that there was nothing she could do and that she knows my chicken was cooked correctly in the teriyaki sauce. I tried explaining to her that this was impossible, because the chicken tasted boiled with no trace of seasoning or sauce at all. She basically looked at me like I was stupid AGAIN, shrugged her shoulders, and said, "Yeah, I know the chicken was cooked correctly so there's nothing I can do." I asked her, at the very least, for a container of the teriyaki sauce to put on my food myself and she handed me a small container of extremely cold, coagulated brown sauce. This sauce was thick and dark brown and there was NO WAY my chicken had been cooked in this. I left, tried eating my meal with the cold teriyaki sauce, and couldn't finish eating it because it was simply disgusting. I had to throw the whole meal away, as my partner Victor wouldn't touch it either. Overall, I am extremely disappointed in the food I wasted my money on and highly disgusted and disturbed with the POOR customer service I received from the young, brown-haired, white woman at the counter. Very disappointed that a restaurant I once loved would employ such a rude and dismissive employee.

Colonial Drug Company opened at 450 W. Franklin Street in 1951. The Chapel Hill Nine held a sit-down protest at the segregated lunch counter, touching off the first of many protests of the store's segregationist policies over the next four years.
