Got caught in the rain and took cover here with my gf. She got a vegan rice ball and thought it was super tasty. I wish I had gotten a tea, but I had just had a coffee. The decor was very cute and the merchandise was adorable.
Had the rice balls sooooo good and the crab one and spicy tuna ones were absolutely excellent.
Super tasty and clean. Workers always greet and are kind. Boba pearls are fresh and good. Overall great place highly recommend.
Really really good milk tea! I come from Singapore and this is easily one of the best bubble teas I’ve had! I personally love Jasmine milk teas, and this place absolutely nailed it. It is great has milky, which I absolutely love. The drink is also not that pricey! I would highly recommend this place if you want good bubble tea in the Chapel Hill area.
Yaya tea is probably the best boba place on Franklin Street! The boba tastes amazing at a great price, and the atmosphere is very comforting. There is a lot of cute merch on display for sale. Yaya tea also sells food, and I have doordashed the rice balls multiple times. The rice balls taste amazing, and have cute packaging with adorable stickers I always save! The overall aesthetics are super cute, and it is very convenient ordering in store with the computerized machine or with the friendly workers. Highly recommend the Spam RB or making your own boba drink, as the drinks are very customizable!
Yaya Tea is a great smaller boba shop in Chapel Hill. They have multiple options to drink which are all very tasty, along with their boba. The ordering system is super easy to use and pay. All it is a simple screen which you follow the steps on and is super easy to use. Definitely recommend if you are in the area.
Yaya Tea has a really nice and cute atmosphere that's complemented by its extremely easy to use ordering station where you can simply select, modify, and pay for what you want on the screen. The Boba Tea, Coffee, and food they offer are all high quality and - while an above average price for some items - feel fair in terms of portion.
So I dont ever write reviews online, but this was really good. Really great prices on their food and it tasted amazing. I had the japanese onigiri, shrimp tempura onigiri, and the takoyaki. All really reasonably priced and I got it delivered. Really made having to drive an hour and a half to work in chapel hill today worth it.
Wonderful place. Love to have this option of food and snacks in the area now. I like how we can choose the amount of sugar we want in the drinks. Staff was super friendly and helpful. It did take a little while for us to get our food even when no one else was there, but I also do believe that the Panera's and Chipotle's have spoiled society a bit in terms of wait times.
This is my first time trying Yaya, and I love it! I've already been there 3 times this week. I've always wanted to try onigiri (rice ball), so I'm glad they serve them-- and with all kinds of fillings! I would prefer if the cold teas they serve came with ice, but I guess they might accommodate if I asked. Right know, until the end of July, they're having a promotion where if you order a small tea, they'll upgrade it to a large for free! This is becoming my new favorite place.
The foo is usually really good, sometimes the bobas are good but some other times they are really hard to chew on, they also got my order wrong once but it’s still a really good boba place for a first timer
Got a takeout order for dinner one night during COVID19 quarantine and overall was pretty happy. The fried udon and yakisoba were very good, with great flavor and texture in the noodles. It was a bit on the salty side so if you are on a salt-restricted diet, please let them know when you order. The takiyaki that I ordered was okay; it sort of steamed itself in the box on my way home and became mushy. The taste was good though and I will be ordering from Yaya Tea again in the future.
Yaya is one of two new bubble tea establishments that have opened in the last month or so in Chapel Hill (the other being Cha House, just a little further up Franklin St.). I visited Yaya during their grand opening, and I was impressed with their food and bubble tea. Frankly, the Thai iced tea was the best I've had since I lived in Chicago, and the edamame and tempura shrimp were amazing. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have more vegetarian options though.
Super watery bubble tea (25% sweet). Interior smells a little artificial. Large diversity of toppings and flavours. Popping boba is fun. There is seating, wifi, and a store with stuffed animals. It’s fast service and not usually crowded. I just find the bubble tea (Boba) very hit or miss. $8 for mango green tea w lychee jelly and mango popping boba … that is not very potent… is just a bad deal. I hear their rice balls etc are nice, though.
I just ordered here for the first time today. We got 2 teas, takoyaki, and their crawfish riceball. Personally, we enjoyed their fruit and milk tea. It was sweet and flavorful. After reading the reviews I was scared the boba was not going to be good, but for us today, it was cooked well. The takoyaki was good, especially given their price. The reason why I only gave 3 stars was because of their rice ball. It is a hefty size; however, most of it is filled with rice. Today, the rice was a little bit harder, it may have been from the previous day. I ordered the spicy crawfish riceball, and was EXTREMELY disappointed to find that they put none-little crawfish. I didn't expect it to be filled with crawfish, but I would have hoped it would be visible. I even dug my fork around to find crawfish, and was very upset to only find 1 piece. Because this was take-out, if it was closer to my house, I would have immediately went back for a refund. Again, the food and drinks were good, but I feel extremely cheated out from the crawfish. I will go here again, but will always feel skeptical.
Service was okay but probably the worst boba I've ever had. I came a early Thursday morning and ordered a Oolong Milk Tea with boba an Almond milk? The tea itself unfortunately tasted very watery an I do not appreciate the fact they didn't mention they use Vanilla Almond milk because in my opinion it wasn't good in this drink. They offer one free scoop of boba as well, which I added. The scoop is not a full scoop it's a half a scoop. I was disappointed seeing this at first but after tasting the boba I was thankful it was only half. The boba was so bad it was super soggy and gelatinous on the outside and NO flavor, not sweet at all. It was very crummy and clumpy, HONESTLY taste like it sat over night (which I believe was the case). My sister got the Mango tea an unfortunately that tasted like a cheap artificial flavoring syrup. On a good note the Vegan chicken Onigiri and Seaweed Onigiri was really good an I have come back for that recently but I would NOT get the drinks here again.

Colonial Drug Company opened at 450 W. Franklin Street in 1951. The Chapel Hill Nine held a sit-down protest at the segregated lunch counter, touching off the first of many protests of the store's segregationist policies over the next four years.
