We've been eating here since it first opened in 1997. It has been the place we've celebrated many birthdays, anniversaries & other milestones. We're so pleased to be able to attend their dining evenings a few times a year and the events we've been to have been superb. The staff are always friendly and Ivan is a gracious host. The food has always been the best we've ever eaten and is crafted with such passion. If you get the chance - try it! They even have rooms!

We booked the venue for a 30th birthday party, Ivan was great throughout the booking and planning, even the day after when we needed to collect a few bits we left. Everything was so seamless and professional and all questions were answered within minutes by email or text during the "build up", to the party. There was a very relaxed approach, to using the space. The staff were friendly and service was good from bar staff through to the cleaners. We also stayed in the room overnight which was lovely, and immaculate.

What a fantastic experience from booking to organising and throughout the event. All staff were spot on. The food was fantastic and so many guests have said how brilliant the whole evening was. Sincere thanks 🤩

My daughter and son-in-law booked the Storyteller for their wedding reception of over 50 guests. The food and atmosphere was amazing and the sun shone through the dining area in the lovely conservatory. I would thoroughly recommend this venue. The owner and staff were so welcoming. We had an awesome time.

This restaurant is normally only available for events, but it occasionally organises themed evenings, which are very popular. We attended a Christmas meal here and the food was excellent. The staff make us feel welcome and at home. There are 2 large, payable carparks right next to the venue for easy access.

Cannot rate Ivan and the team highly enough. Held an event here at the end of 2022 and sorted it all out from the other side of the world. Time difference wasn’t an issue, very responsive and worked with our chosen staging company seamlessly to get the venue decorated. On the night, service was great and food was amazing.

I booked The Storyteller for my 30th birthday party and it is the nicest venue! Really affordable, the staff were amazing and we all had the best night. They let us supply our own food and we’re really flexible with letting us decorate - and they cleared everything up afterwards too. Cannot recommend this place enough!

My favourite restaurant in Cheltenham! Lovely atmosphere, feels special, but comfortable. Food is different and interesting, but not odd, it just has a twist or an edge on something you will be familiar with. I have found when trying to please many diverse people and tastes it has always had something for everyone. Always had great service, friendly and very helpful.

We had our wedding here last weekend and were very happy everything. The staff are great and the manager is patient and very helpful. We were very pleased with the service and food/drink. It's a great place for a celebration with a small or large party (we booked the whole place) Highly recommended.

Private venue with bar. Very friendly staff and very clean location. Supplied our own food for family get together.

Excellent meal had here there is parking nearby an Ncp car park 2 mins walk. We were seated promptly given menus to look at and after a little our drinks order was taken. Drinks delivered and orders taken a little waiting then the starter arrived Nachos to share a good plateful. Shortly after mains arrived super choice 2 fish 1 chicken and 1 ribs well cooked and good portions. Service was good the access not bad for wheelchairs but toilet eather small but would recommend for a good evening out.

I travel here for business regularly. I ALWAYS stop by The Storyteller! Sure it's a bit pricey, but it is a fine dining experience, with a varied and innovative menu, good wines, and expertly timed, courteous service. I recommend the pepper crusted pork, top notch! I would take anyone here and know my guests would be very pleased!

Had a 40th birthday party here last week. Fabulous venue all the guests loved it. Amazing outside space as well. So nice to have the ability to make it our own and staff so helpful. Highly recommend it.

We held my Mum’s wake here last Friday, Feb 20th. What a beautiful place in which to celebrate her. Ivan and his team could not have been more helpful and accommodating. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Booked Storyteller for our joint 40th celebrations. Excellent venue and staff. Communication was simple and easy. Easy access to venue before hand to set up. So many compliments about how beautiful the venue was and how lovely the bar staff were.

Had a fabulous wedding party here - Ivan and team were so accommodating and friendly. Venue is beautiful as it is, great size and location, I would thoroughly recommend.

I've been 3 or 4 times to the Storyteller. It's a nice restaurant with lots of options. Lots of options for wine and good service. Happy to return again I returned again in December 2023 for our work Xmas do. The venue is now only a party venue. We had 65 people for a 3 course meal then karaoke and a disco! The staff were great. A little tight on space due to the number of people and the dancefloor. In the summer it would be better as we could use the outside space. The food was very good and definitely worth trying.

Good selection of food. Been a couple of times now and enjoyed the food. Friendly staff. Will be going again for sure.

Great food. Above avg cost. But still reasonable value. Good range of wine but didn't like the house white!

Fabulous drinks and fine meats (including kangaroo and locally sourced bison) in this tex-mex restaurant. Some dishes could do with having green vegetables or salads, but if you like your meat then you will not be unhappy.

One of our favourite eating places with great food and helpful staff though service was slow even after the Saturday night rush. We'd love to see a more varied range of vegetarian and vegan meal options. Staff were bit unsure what to suggest for non meat eaters in our group apart from burritos which is a bit same ish. We were treated to a little drop of chocolate wine on the house to finish which made a good end to the meal after a mix up with our coffees.

Some friends of mine hired the Storyteller for their party which i was invited to and although it is a great venue with plenty of space very friendly attentive staff the drinks prices especially for shorts are right up there with bars I have been to in London £14 for a double straight brandy is a bit steep it wasn't even anything special 2 rounds and I'd paid for the bottle basically but I don't want to moan too much we all had a great night.

This is a very unusual place. Right by a car park, yet tucked away, so quiet and intimate. We went for a wake, which was well catered and organised, with efficient, discreet service. I can see it being very suitable for other group occasions. Not suitable for disabled unfortunately as toilets downstairs.

Not as busy as it used to be, or so it seemed. Food not bad, but not sparkling. Venison starter tasted OK but was as tough as a dog's head. Service friendly but kind of slow. There's a big, adjacent car park. 4 hours will cost you £4.50 at any time of day. You have to type in your entire reg. number first. The drive in from out of town is a bit of a pain in the neck, even with sat nav, because of confusing, specific-time buses and taxis only roads en-route. Still, a nice environment without loud music and with an air of sophistication. Extra information. Adjacent car park NOT recommended. We bought a ticket and left before it expired but got stung by an incomprehensible £60 parking fine. They didn't relent even when we sent them a ticket image and didn't explain why in any clear way. Probably cheaper overall to get a taxi.

Gouged us for £36pp for Valentine's fixed menu (nearly £90 with couple of drinks each) then burnt the potatoes, no candles, creased up table cloths. Service good, but food and presentation didn't match the price.

The wait time was ridiculous for a Wednesday evening. The food was tasty enough. Some items less falvoursome than others. The menu hasn't changed in over a year

Hit n miss. Fusion cuisine that doesn't always work. Frequently slow service. Good wine selection and occasional flashes of brilliance with the food

I do like this venue, and although I only thought the food was okay I'll definitely go back and give it another chance in the evening. Service was good!

Works Christmas do, staff were friendly and service was good. Felt the starter and pudding were presented well and tasted good. My main however was steak which was not only a cheap cut full of fat and gristle it was undercooked. Additionally the drinks selection (beer/cider wise) could have been better.

My children took me for a birthday treat many years ago :)

If you haven't been here before then it's definitely worth discovering as it has a very interesting menu and a unique glass ceiling dining area. However, the menu is rather short and has not changed in a long time so I don't really feel the need to visit The Storyteller again for a while. I would also point out that the menu is a little overpriced and the starters are far too small. That said I have had some very nice mains here, I just wish there was more of them!

Food is good, but the service is embarrassing slow. I went there with a party of 10 and they only just managed to get us 2 courses in 2 hours. In the end we had to leave without dessert because we had to be elsewhere.

I've been at the Storyteller a number of times with work colleagues and at wine tasting evenings. Personally I find the food to be unappetising. This would not be my restaurant of choice.

BEWARE!!!!!! My wife called this venue to enquire about making a booking for my daughter's 18th birthday. Although she was advised that we could not view the venue until 21 November, she was pressured in to making a booking and paying a deposit on the basis the date required 20 December was during the busy Christmas period and would soon be booked. We paided a deposit on 17 November. Upon veiwing the venue on 21 November, it quickly became apparent that it was nothing like it appeared on the venue's website. It was dark, cold, stank and generally just very scruffy. My daughter was very dissapointed and asked us to cancel the booking. When we did so on 22 November, we were advised that only 50% of the deposit would be refunded. When we queried this we were advised that the venue had already booked a chef. Would they not have another booking on 20 December, their busy Christmas period? When we complained we were sent links to various websites on the legalities of paying a deposit to a hospitality venue. It quickly became obvious that this venue was well versed in tactics designed to fleece people out of the deposits they had paid. They have sinced advised us that because we complained, they will now keep 100% of the deposit we paid. No doubt the deposit con is a nice little side line for them. I was unable to leave this review without giving 1 star, which they do not deserve.
