Happy Garden

Chester is a small town, not too many choices for restaurant food, but Happy Garden is truly top notch and would hold its own anywhere in Northern California, including a big city. The staff is so friendly! We particularly enjoy their salt and pepper ribs, their daily specials, and their limited-but-excellent dim sum menu. We look forward to the end of Covid when it's safe to dine indoors. Very cute atmosphere. Sweet place.

Besides the beef chow mein I also had the hot and sour soup, which was excellent. I try to stop here every time I'm in Chester. This time I had to get my meal to go. Usually I dine in. It's one of my favorite restaurants for Chinese food.

This is our favorite Chinese restaurant ever! We live in Oklahoma but travel West for the summer. Happy Gardens in Chester is what we look forward all winter long. We love Kevin and his wife!!!! and the food is outstanding! We have tried Chinese food from here to the West Coast and this is the best, bar none!!! Can't wait for June! We drive 70 miles one way once we are in the Sierras for the summer - at least 2 or 3 times a month - to eat at Happy Gardens.

Simply outstanding Chinese food! I stop in once a week for lunch now!! It blows my mind to find the exceptional quality of authentic Chinese food in such a small town like Chester! It is a must try if your passing through!!

Walnut shrimp is my favorite dish; I’ve tried it at MANY different restaurants. I had to stop mid meal just to exclaim how good this one is; it’s the BEST I’ve ever tried. Ok, imma go back to crying into my plate cuz it’s so satisfying.

We do enjoy Asian food, This was some of the best we have had. Service and atmosphere were both good, but nothing exceptional.

The meat is tender and the vegetables are FRESH! The entrees are so flavorful without being over salty or overcooked. Hands down, the best chow mein I have ever had....EVER. For years I'd driven past this place thinking, "how good could Chinese food in Chester really be?", so I never went. Boy oh boy was I missing out. I am so glad I finally stopped in. You will be too :)

I love Happy Garden!!! Everyone is always so happy to see you, greeting you with a genuine smile. The food is excellent quality, I especially love the hot and sour soup. The atmosphere is very colorful and cheerful, a lovely place to be.

I love this place for good wholesome food, gracious service from an amazing family where everyone pitches in the serve the wonderful community of Chester, CA. I have also enjoyed four meals from my "Chow" bag of left overs!

The finest Chinese cuisine this side of lake Almanor. When the owners kids are doing homework at one of the tables, you know the food is going to be fire 😤😮‍💨😩🙏

Food is great, and fairly priced. The staff are family that will make you feel like you're part of it. Try the paper wrapped chicken, you won't be disappointed!

Very quaint little restaurant. The food was delicious! We had lemon chicken, beef and brocoli, and veggie noodles. It was to die for and the portion size was enough for lunch the next day! If you get the opportunity do pay them a visit!

Comforting food in Chester CA! We stayed in Chester while visiting Lassen Volcanic National Park, and ate dinner at Happy Garden both nights! It looks like a family run place and the food and service was good. They made Kung pao vegetables even though it wasn’t on their menu and it was delicious!

I would definitely recommend this restaurant to any of my friends driving through Chester if they were passing through it either lunch or dinner time. We came away with enough leftovers for lunch for all four of us tomorrow, so it was an excellent value.

Most amazing Chinese food you can get within 150 miles. Service is awesome and food is perfect every time. Nice size portions for the cost. Try the dinner for 1 it has soup, egg rolls, chow main and a many entree choices and it’s a huge portion too.

My favorite lunch stop in Chester. So many dishes to choose from. Food is always fresh and tasty; reasonable prices and a very friendly staff. They even have THAI TEA, which is one of my silly treats. Many local people & workers come here for take-out, so the counter up front is quite busy. They have a nice sized dining room, comfy booths, and the typical Asian decor.

Living in the Bay area, we are used to good Chinese foods, including those in Chinatown. We are happily surprised to find the dishes in remote Chester delicious, each with ample quantity, and a large selections on the menu. Service was quick and pleasant. What a nice find!!

Food was pretty good. Sauces tasted like they has sugar in them, not what we are used to. Staff was great.

The food was beautiful but had no flavor. People are great. The prices were very good. Just wish it had flavor.

Food was really REALLY bland. The fried rice literally taste like white rice with veggies, no flavor at all. The chow mein noodles also didn’t have a lot of flavor. I’ve heard a lot of good things from locals about this restaurant, didn’t let the expectation at all.

Saw all the good reviews on here and yelp so tried it not sure what all the hype is about!?!? Not impressed at all way over priced ordered egg rolls and they were cold spring rolls we also had the sweet n sour chicken which was swimming in sweet n sour sauce that we didn't car for. The vegetable fried was ok kinda skimpy on the vegetables. Pot stickers were average but also cold. Definitely not the best place to eat in this town at least I hope not I will try somewhere else next time

I usually don't complain very often, but for the price I paid I will say the food was really bland and wasn't cooked right . I got some broccoli and beef, and some Curry Chicken. The broccoli and beef, just wasn't cooked long enough making the meal impossible to eat. The Curry Chicken was also so bland you couldn't even tell it had curry in it, with no flavor at all. So I gave them one star witch I feel is appropriate.

Disgusting, wasn’t cooked or warmed up enough. Pre frozen food. I do not know how they have stayed open.
