Service was impeccable!! Had the Lobster Bisque and the Del Monico Ribeye cooked Chicago Blue. Far and away the most flavorful and perfectly prepared ribeye I’ve experienced. Went with the truffle butter on the side which was very good but found the steak needed nothing. Fork tender and melted into my tastebuds. The Lobster Bisque was an experience in itself that left me craving another bite.
A true HIDDEN GEM tucked inside the LaSalle Hotel! From the moment we walked in, the experience was nothing short of exceptional. Every single staff member played a role in making the evening feel special—from the person who greeted us and kept our bread warm and water glasses filled, to the team seamlessly clearing and resetting the table with perfect timing. Nothing was rushed, nothing was overlooked. We started with the lollipop lamb chops—four generous, perfectly cooked pieces that were absolutely delicious. For dinner, the Delmonico ribeye was outstanding, served with mushrooms and potato purée (mashed potatoes). A standout touch: the steak comes with a half head of roasted garlic to mix into the potatoes, along with two different specialty salts that elevated every bite. The smoked Old Fashioned is an absolute must. It had the perfect balance of smoke and flavor—hands down one of the best we’ve had. Our server, Eric, was phenomenal. Every recommendation he made was spot on, and his attention to detail truly enhanced our experience. The managers were also present throughout the evening, checking in with guests and making sure everything was flawless. As we were leaving for a play, a three-piece quartet was setting up for live music, adding yet another layer to the already fantastic atmosphere. Exceptional food, impeccable service at every level, and a warm, polished ambiance—this place sets the standard and is a definite must-return.
Had an absolutely wonderful time here for dinner! The Truffle Risotto was one of the best I’ve ever tried. The service was great from the checkin to our server to the management coming up to thank us! Would 100% return!
We had an absolutely fantastic experience for a late lunch at the bar at Grill on 21. Darren with a G was at the bar serving us and he was awesome. The drinks were on point and we had great conversation in a beautiful, relaxed atmosphere. I highly recommend.
This place was absolutely wond. My server Eric was an absolute gem. Ask for him when you come. He’s so attentive and kind. The food was outstanding. I will definitely be coming back. Thanks Eric!
My guy and I enjoyed our time here. The appetizer wasn't all that great to us but the main course was delicious. I forgot to take a pic of his steak but it was good. The jazz band was good too. Love the decor and the drinks. Our waitress was awesome too.
My wife and I had a wonderful experience dining at Grill on 21. The ambiance, service, and food were all amazing. The crab cake was the best I have ever had. For our entree we had wagyu w/ bearnaise add on sauce and filet mignon, which were wonderful. The roasted brussel sprouts were a special treat – not oily as some restaurants prepare them and with sliced grapes which added a perfect amount of sweetness to complement the namesake of the dish.
As a guest of this hotel, I have enjoyed incredibly food, cocktails and top tier service. I highly recommend!!!! Garren went above and beyond to make sure that our stay was amazing. When we requested hot chocolate and Baileys after a chilly walkabout the city he made it happen. He provides excellent service behind the bar and in the restaurant. Make sure and request him!
We spent our 15th wedding anniversary in Chicago and celebrated with dinner at Grill on 21! The atmosphere was beautiful, the staff were so welcoming, and the food was absolutely delicious. My husband loved the Caesar salad, and my Steak and Frites was outstanding! To top it off, they surprised us with an anniversary dessert plate and a round of champagne on the house, which made the night feel extra special. The live music added to the beautiful ambiance. We’ll definitely be back! I just wish I could remember our waiter’s name to give him a special shout-out.
I had the absolute pleasure of being served by Mary during my recent visit to the Marriott Chicago's bar and restaurant, and I cannot praise her enough! From the moment I sat down, her warm and welcoming demeanor made me feel right at home. She was not only attentive but also genuinely friendly, taking the time to recommend a few cocktails and share her knowledge about the menu. Her impeccable service was delivered with a smile, and she seemed to anticipate every need before I even had to ask. Mary's professionalism and attention to detail were exceptional, ensuring that each guest in the bar had an outstanding experience. Whether it was checking in to see if everything was to my liking or remembering my preferences with ease, it was clear she genuinely cares about creating memorable experiences for guests. The drinks and food were fantastic, but it was Mary's exceptional service that truly elevated my visit. If you’re lucky enough to be served by her, you’re in for an unforgettable experience. Marriott Chicago is fortunate to have such an amazing team member. I will definitely be back, all thanks to Mary’s amazing hospitality!
My coworker recommended this place.. with so many restaurants in either River north or the west loop.. I actually had very low expectations for this place. I came in and was floored. Beautifully modern and very clean. The ambiance was great. I started off with the Caesar salad with anchovies.. ( I loved it) and then I had the free range chicken and my fiancé had the steak.. we added and shared the Brussels sprouts and I had their signature old fashion.. The great thing about the evening.. they had a jazz singer in the lounge area playing and singing music and although we couldn’t see her from our dining table we were able to hear her singing performance. It actually was the only regret of the night… we had a early morning and would have loved to have settled our tab and went into the lounge to hear and enjoy the rest of the performance. It’s just another added incentive to comeback.. I really hope that singer will be there the next time I’m there she was amazing…the food was excellent.. but I can definitely see myself coming back to the lounge on a Friday or Saturday just to enjoy the performance.. This space is amazing and you guys are doing a fantastic job keep up the good work…
The service at this restaurant was outstanding, creating a warm and luxurious atmosphere that made the dining experience very special. The food was very good. I had the steak, which was delicious although the portion was a bit small. The potatoes and eggs that came with it were excellent. The beer was served really cold, adding to the overall enjoyment of the meal. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for quality dining with a touch of luxury.
Reserved a table for my girlfriend and I anniversary. The highlight of the night was our server ; attentive, professional and always ready suggest foods and drinks items. The chef made us a board with assorted treats to celebrate our anniversary as well champagne. Outstanding place.
My colleague and I came here for lunch and we really enjoyed our time here. [tips] -The restaurant is located on the 21st floor -Pair your dessert with black coffee -Plan your time ahead if you come during lunch hours as it gets busy (highly recommend to make a reservation) From the beginning to end of our visit to Grill 21, the service was friendly and polite. My guest and I felt heard. I can’t pick a favorite. The lobster bisque was a good way to warm up my stomach for the salmon as it was flavorful. The salmon dish was nicely cooked and since seafood is light, i was able to end with a nice dessert.
The food and drinks were truly exceptional. Definitely get the braised beef short rib - it was out of this world! Couldn’t recommend it more. The beef Wellington was so good as well! The meat was perfectly cooked and the service was excellent. We will be recommending this restaurant to everyone!
Mary was excellent! She was helpful, efficient, friendly, outgoing and gave us recommendations on the best pizza spots in Chicago. When you come here, definitely ask for her! You will not be disappointed! Great way to kick off our stay in Chi Town!
We received a complimentary breakfast during our stay and we were really happy with it. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was friendly and attentive. The coffee was free-flowing as well. We went at 9am on a Sunday and didn’t have to wait to be seated. I would happily come back! Prices were reasonable too considering it’s a hotel.
Beef Wellington and a near perfect Manhattan. I asked about this dish and was told by my server that it was one of the best things on the menu. The dish is not a fast one, mind you, but I was willing to wait. They have several dry interesting and good appetizer options, but I could not afford ‘real estate’. It was made for me specifically, and served hot off the press, which I always expect and appreciate. I’m from Vegas and have had unfortunate cold BW at the Master’s own kitchen (Hell’s Kitchen), so this was a nice surprise. It was a slow Sunday evening, and I appreciated the attention to my meal, which was prepared wonderfully! I’d eat this again in Chicago.
Very good hotel steak house. Fantastic service. Parmesan fries and mushrooms were perfect accompaniments for the perfectly cooked filet.
The absolute best breakfast I've ever had! Couldn't find anywhere close to the hotel open on a Saturday morning so we had breakfast in the hotel. All of the food was extremely delicious, fresh, and well made. The server was busy but did an excellent job at keeping up with all of his tables. He was incredibly polite, kind, and charming.
I ate breakfast here both mornings I stayed and it was excellent. My food was well prepared and flavored. The Farmer’s omelet and coffee were great. The server both my mornings remembered my name and was very cordial and polite. I normally dine at a different restaurant each meal to experience more of each city I visit, but I had such a pleasant experience that I came back my last morning as well. Thank you!
Amazing experience Mari made us feel at home. Help us choose what’s good on the menu while we waited she made sure our cups were never dry. The food was amazing we ordered the steak frites must say it was affordable and amazing.
Excellent food—lobster and shrimp salad was exquisite. Experienced and knowledgeable staff. Lovely atmosphere, contemporary, elegant, refreshing.
*HIDDEN GEM* So happy to have stumbled upon this amazing place. We are now routine customers. The food, the ambiance, the live music, and the staff, the Chef, all make this place great! Can’t wait for our next visit! Great cocktails too 😊
Loved Blanca at the Bar. Pleaseant and friendly. We enjoyed libations after check in. We felt welcomed and look forward to our stay at The LaSalle. Will update if things change.
I had dinner at Grill on 21 on February 7 and our waiter was Eric. The atmosphere was wonderful and the food was superb Eric made the Experience even more special.
Everything was outstanding, from the appetizers to the meals, the cocktails and service. The ambiance is quiet, refined and romantic. Our server took time to explain everything and had the courses timed to perfection. We had the beef Wellington and lamb chops, cooked perfectly and delicious. Outstanding old-fashioneds. Tucked away in the LaSalle hotel, would 100% recommend.
Top notch service and the food is delicious. I had the lobster bisque and truffle fries. Will be back for the steak!
Had dinner at Grill on 21, and it was a whole vibe! Spent about $65 total for the filet mignon ($45) and a side of garlic mashed potatoes ($12), plus a drink. The steak was cooked to perfection—tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The mashed potatoes were creamy and had just the right amount of garlic. The place has a sleek, upscale feel but still feels inviting, and the service was top-notch. Perfect for a date night or if you just wanna treat yourself. Definitely adding this to my go-to spots in the city!
Beautiful spot! Celebrated a friends birthday here and we great service. our waitress was very personable and the food was great. would definitely come back.
Got Valentine’s Day dinner and it was great! Shout out to our server Erik O. 10/10!
I had absolutely amazing time. Erick O and Lucas Buinba took amazing care of us. We had a terrible time at the store on the first floor and they more than made up for it. I personally appreciate all they work they do there. I will definitely be back.
They updated their menu recently and the food is excellent. I was staying at the JW Marriott and ordered in and they did not disappoint. I had the lobster busque, a Caesar Salad and their Torchio pasta. I also had their carrot cake. I am a petite woman and ate Everything without a second thought in one sitting. It was that good. I highly recommend.
Went out for a group dinner from an event. Ambience was very nice. Predetermined menu and they served crab cake and salad it was great. Ordered Salmon for main course and drinks were little expensive but is expected being in the center of city on a nice 21st floor with great ambience.
Had breakfast at Grill on 21. The food is very good. Avocado/egg toast very good and the poached egg cooked perfectly. Don’t take the juice.. way overpriced for what you get. Misleading on the coffee.. they pour the coffee without asking you and then charge you for it. Service is average at best. The place looks really nice but you clearly feel inside a hotel restaurant. Overall, unless you are staying at the hotel probably no need to go for breakfast
We went to Grill on 21 for Chicago Restaurant Week Brunch. Lovely setting for a restaurant and not your typical hotel lobby setting. The wait staff was very attentive and met our every need. Our food was very good with a nice wine pour.
Delicious food, wonderful ambiance, and they had live music the night I dined here. Service was a touch slow but very friendly. If you’re in a hurry just let your server know! Highly recommend the seafood pasta and the All She Wrote (pisco cocktail).
This is a very nice place with a great menu, nice people and a lot of ambiance. My steak and asparagus weren’t hot though. The Limoncello Mascarpone cake was delicious!
Tried the holiday dinner a 3 course meal... The appetizers and dessert was good .the steak was alright ...the drinks were good... a little pricey for a 3 course meal...
We had breakfast as we were staying at the hotel. Frank was our server, and he was professional, friendly and attentive. Food was good - especially the 7 grain toast that came with our omelette order. Coffee is a bit ‘cooked’ but was not expecting premier coffee either. Nice sized booths especially for parties of 2-4.
So my husband brought me here for a valentines surprise dinner! From the start our experience was underwhelming! Our reservation was for 8:15pm on Valentine’s Day. I admit due to traffic we only got there around 8:25pm. I get us being late, but to be only sat at a table around 8:50pm was strange! To add on, the host told us to sit by the bar area, but because so many other people were waiting too, we sat on some sofas which had a dirty table filled with leftover napkins, cups etc! Just unacceptable for a high end steak house to have such a dirty waiting lounge area! Their delayed seating seemed a huge issue cause they were sooooo many people waiting by the entrance waiting to be seated! It was crowded and just unappealing! Knowing VDay is such a popular day I’d have thought they’d have expected and planned for such a busy night! The manager did come apologize to us at the end of the night mentioning how busy a night it had been and hoping we return on a more calmer day! Ya no! Finally seated, we ordered starters off their valentines menu. I got the shrimp firecracker and my husband got the crab cake! I kid you not, it took almost an hour for these ‘simple’ starters to arrive! We had to ask our server several times like should an appetizer take this long? To add insult to injury, people who’d been seated after us had already received their meals! At least both meals tasted great! Mains were the 16oz ribeye and the halibut with nice shareable sizes of mushroom, grilled Brussels sprouts and lobster Mac n cheese! These tasted lovely and were decently portioned! The ribeye steak was kinda tough even though we’d asked for medium rare! Dessert was the carrot cake which was nice! Strange they don’t offer simple ordinary ice cream! Everything was either coming with gelato or nothing! Strange again! They also need to instill some kind of dress code! There was the most atrocious dressing for some of their patrons which was just an eye sore! I’m not saying it’s a high class theater and people need to be dressed to the nines but come on, some families came with kids, others were elderly couples, we don’t want to see barely dressed women with their chest areas falling out as we try eat! They really could have a dress policy, we’ve seen other high class restaurants do so! To make the chaotic night even more unpleasant, my husband paid the bill (a hefty price cause these dishes ain’t cheap). He ‘tipped’ our server a decent amount which we thought was alright, but the server came back to complain about how small the tip was! I kid you not, after just paying a pretty penny of over +$350 for substandard service (our server was just ok, we’ve had far better elsewhere), mediocre customer care and a so so experience, for that server to say that was madness! We quickly got out of there! The whole VDay experience was just ok! We’ve been to some real fine dining restaurants before and some casual simple restaurants too and have had a better experience at those places too! Grill on 21; mid experience!
Service was amazing. We came for a graduation celebration with ~10ppl. The room is gorgeous and our server was phenomenal. The food was ok but has gotten noticeably lower quality for many of the dishes that were on the menu previously. Like lobster thermidor? But with gnocchi? No, terrible, flavorless and not lobster thermidor. There was little flavor, none of the traditional fixings that come with lobster thermidor, and the little tiny chopped pieces of lobster was definitely not what I received the last time I ordered this at this restaurant.
This place is a little underwhelming. It started with the server, who won't even look at us in the eye when we asked for a table. She just looked at her list and started walking so we were confused if we were to follow her or what. The place is smallish and dark with no windows and low ceilings, so if you're looking for an outside view, this is not the place. For a drink, I ordered the Marquee. It's quite good though. They start you with some bread which was actually the best part of the meal 🙂. The tapenade was quite tasty and I wish they give more. I ordered the Chilean seabass. I don't know if it's my taste bud but it doesn't taste like the Chilean seabass that I love. It's hard to find them in MN that's why I ordered this. I'm not even sure if it is or not. It's also a little overcooked and quite salty. My girlfriend also didn't like her seafood pasta. She said everything was salty. But my other girlfriend liked her roasted salmon and she said she even liked the mashed potatoes. Creamy and great seasoning. For dessert, we ordered tiramisu and the white chocolate blueberry cheesecake. I liked the tiramisu but I didn't taste the cheesecake. I didn't get to take some photos of our main dishes though. They have a live band playing jazz so if you'd like to listen to live music and get some drinks, this might be a nice place for you.
Went here with my boyfriend for Valentines Day and it was very pretty and the ambiance was good. Customer service was very good. I would recommend music on special days like Vday but that's just me. Food was decent but portions were smallish and we got home & ate snacks LOL. I would go again for drinks only.
Lunch was crab cakes and a "lobster roll" whixh was actually just lobster salad without the head fake of a consolation with some claw or tail meat on top as I've seen done elsewhere. The cakes were dry without enough aioli to help that. It was served with some basic slaw. The Parmesan fries that came with the overpriced roll were good but when I tried to dip one into the metal ramekin of ketchup, I was unable to do so as it had sat for so long in the fridge that a firm skin had dried to the top surface so I took a knife and flicked it off. I also had to brush some crumbs off of my chair seat when I arrived and no other customers were there. The service was good but the view was just OK. A soap opera was on a TV with no closed captions so it was a distraction from the background music. A bit disappointed but it was probably just an off day... details really are everything.
The service here was great. The staff was so sweet and friendly but the food is just not it. I got the steak frites by recommendation and it was quite charred and had a sauce that tasted like A1 on it. I wish the sauce came on the side since it wasn’t quite pleasant. My friend got the burger but it was a little difficult to eat being so big and was a little tough. Fries were amazing.
We had a decent experience here. We were first served a small puff pastry and then our choice of bread with French butter and Tuscan olive oil. It was a nice intro into the meal. We ordered an appetizer of Oysters Rockefeller and entrees of Steak Frites and Roasted Chicken. We loved the food, although my one nit to pick was that the steak was slightly more underdone than we had requested and chewy. Nonetheless, we cleaned out plates. The service was ok. The restaurant itself was quite nice. Yet, we overall observed a very pretentious vibe from patrons and staff altogether. Obviously, you’re going to get that more in the city, especially with nice restaurants, but it was still more than we had anticipated. In sum, we had a great time and a good meal. The vibe was a bit off for us, but that may just be a personal preference type of thing. I might visit again if I was staying immediately nearby.
The place is ok. The atmosphere is ok. The food was the same as everywhere else however EXTREMELY OVERPRICED for what you get. I could have grilled my own steak that tasted better for less than $15. I wasn't impressed but it has potential.
Our waitress, April was attentive just a little standoffish and in a hurry. My meal, wedge salad was pretty good, crumbles a bit sharp/puckering. Steak frites was set on mashed potatoes and outside the sauce the steak was bland. My dinner companion ordered shrimp de jonghe and twice baked potatoe.Which upon eating the potato discovered it had an off flavor and discovered corner of it was black. Our waitress and the manager excused it away first indicating it was burned but that’s not what it was. In the end an apology was given and the meal was simply comped. Didn’t take a picture of that
I came here to enjoy breakfast/brunch and spent the entire meal in the dark. I understand that it’s a steakhouse and at night a dim lit dining service would be very nice, but during breakfast/brunch, it’s a very off putting. If you are going to host a breakfast or brunch, you must have lighting that can match the time of day. This is a restaurant inside a hotel, if anyone should know lighting and mood, it should be a hotel. The staff did very little to address this issue besides apologizing, which didn’t satisfy me.
