We went for restaurant week lunch and everything was spectacular. The nice thing about restaurant week is that the portions are a bit smaller so you can enjoy each course. The shrimp starter was delicious. Just the right amount of spice and the toast was perfect to sop up the tasty broth. The hangar steak was tender and cooked just right. I could have slurped the pot of gravy. And for dessert, my favorite, Tiramisu. Probably one of the top three I've ever had, including the one in San Francisco's Italian Village and the one in Boston's North End. I seriously considered licking my plate.

LOVE this theater eatery!! We had the Short Rib Parpadelle dish and I am still salivating over it a week later!! We also thoroughly enjoyed the Chicken Parmigiana, the Gnocchi, the Grey Goose Martini, and the Petterino's 75! I miss (and will never forget) the past homemade Chocolate Pudding & Peppermint Hot Fudge Sundae!! Those were the ultimate palate pleaser!!! They do have great desserts here. But we chose the perfect hot apple strudel at the ChristKindle Mart next door. It was also AMAZING!!

This was a wonderful experience we couldn't be happier from start to finish everything was hot when served which is a big deal for us personally also seasoned well .They have a great wine selection and our waiter Jorge ,was so on target with helping us select a wine for dinner ...also they were so on time with keeping our water glasses full never has to ask ..very clean and wonderful staff . This was our first visit but won't be our last !!

Petterino’s understood the assignment. The service was so good it felt like the staff had a sixth sense for empty glasses and indecisive menu staring 👀🍝 Friendly, attentive, and perfectly timed without hovering, which is a rare art. The whole experience felt smooth and effortless, like an Italian dinner montage in a movie where everything just works. If great service were a sport, this team would be going home with a trophy. Came hungry, left happy, and absolutely would return. Bravo. 🍷👏

Pizza was great! This place is a must stop if you’re in the area! They have lots of homemade Italian dishes. The only thing I would say to the chefs is to keep the pizza in the oven longer the get more of a crisp on the bottom. The pizza was pretty floppy but that’s ok! It tasted great.

Loved my experience there. Food was delicious. They make their own pasta, meatballs, and sausages. Service was fast and the waitstaff was very kind. They have caricatures all along the walls of famous people. Some of them were signed. It is a very chill atmosphere. You can dress up or dress down if you want. Highly recommend if you're in the area to try them out.

On a busy Friday night when we couldn’t get into anywhere until 9:00, this place popped up and gave us a reservation at 6:45! Really excellent homemade pasta, like this 4-cheese ravioli in sundried tomato cream sauce. The add-on salmon was oh-so-perfectly grilled. Plus excellent and quick service and nostalgic decor.

The best bar in downtown Chicago! Stop by for a drink, a snack or get the happy hour deal- the atmosphere and the quality is amazing, my favorite place to be! Especially because of Jesse and his team, they mix the best drinks, just let them know your taste and the right drink will be served. Can’t wait to enjoy my next evening there! Thank you Jesse and the whole team for making every evening special!!

The food was excellent! Service was friendly, but just a bit slow. We had to look for our server a couple of times, but that won't stop us from ever going back! Food and atmosphere are great! Thanks!!

Hands down, the best pasta I’ve had all summer! The flavors were rich and perfectly balanced, and you could really tell it was made with care. On top of that, the staff was so sweet and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better!

I’d highly recommend the house salad! I’m not usually a fan of salads with too much dressing, but this one was perfectly balanced. The server even asked if I’d like some fresh pepper ground on top, which was a nice touch 😉 The salad came out pretty quickly, but the main course took a bit longer. I paced myself with the salad so I’d have some left to enjoy with the steak 😂. The complimentary bread came with a cheese spread, and the bread was so soft—it paired perfectly. The steak was cooked just right, and the fries were evenly fried, better than most fast-food fries I’ve had. Seriously, props to them for that! The restaurant was decorated for the holidays, giving it a nice holiday vibe inside. The bar near the entrance was a bit lively, but once you’re inside, it’s much more relaxing. Oh, and the restaurant has live jazz performances starting at 6:30 PM on Mondays, so keep that in mind if you’re planning a visit 😆!

We had our wedding reception there. Event manager was friendly and worked with us to make a wonderful evening. Staff was pleasant and attentive. Fun atmosphere with lots of celebrity cartoons.

Nice place in the downtown area for Italian food. The bread was warm and soft and the butter that comes with it went really well together. Tomato bisque was also pretty yummy and definitely a must try. Chopped salad was pretty decent and was a big enough portion to where it leaves you full. Great decor and pretty interactive with all the pictures on the wall.

Homemade pastas are delicious. So many appetizers to choose from. Cozy atmosphere with a old Chicago vibe. The staff are very friendly and attentive.

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The staff were incredibly friendly and provided excellent service throughout our visit. It's advisable to make a reservation, but we were pleasantly surprised when they accommodated us without one. The wood-fired pizza was outstanding—thin and crispy with fresh mozzarella that truly elevated the flavors. Highly recommend!

This was a wonderful date night spot, the service was amazing and the food was good. We went here before a show at the Goodman Theater so it was very convenient! We had the fried ravioli, an Italian beef, and the caprese sandwich. All the food was good and the drinks were nice. The part that stood out was the service, from the bar to the table service.

Went to Petterinos before the Potter show in December. The restaurant was decorated with holiday decorations and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. We made reservations 6-8weeks in advance, given that we knew this would be a busy day/time. The restaurant was packed, but we were seated in less than 2 min! Excellent table service, where staff (and really the bus staff) were on top of their game. Our party of 4 started with the crab cakes, which tasted fresh and were perfectly cooked. Our entrees included: fettuccini Alfredo (9/10), steak frites (10/10), pepperoni pizza (7/10, a little oily), and spaghetti with meatballs (6/10, but this high of score because the pasta was fresh and my daughter is a tough critic). My steak was a flank (I believe) and was cooked to perfection, very flavorful, and every bite was very tender. We paired the meals with the broccolini (10/10) and the Brussels sprouts (9/10). Petterinos was the perfect dinner stop before a show at the Nederlander Theater! Highly recommended. PS- their table butter is orange colored because they infuse it with dried tomatoes.

Pleasantly surprised that we were able to be seated earlier than our reservation, even though it was a busy Friday night. The waiter was thoughtful by asking if we had time constraints for a show. The bread was just ok and the cold butter was hard to spread. But the pasta was amazing. It’s made fresh each morning and super flavorful. We enjoyed the vodka rigatoni with Italian sausage and mushrooms. And the squid ink seafood pasta. Excellent and fast service. Highly recommend.

My friend wanted to eat at this restaurant so I came alone. I had the Italian beef sandwich which comes with fries, I had one bite and couldn’t eat the sandwich. It had no taste or flavor, I asked for honey mustard but they didn’t have it so there’s nothing I could do about it. I didn’t send it back, when the waiter asked why I didn’t eat, he was very empathetic. He did not charge me for it which was very nice and considerate. I have so much respect for this establishment after that experience, my friend did like what she ordered: I think next time I’ll get a pasta dish but I had to share the wonderful experience we had. The restaurant has a welcoming atmosphere, which is very nice.

As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with smiles and compliments! The staff here are so friendly and took great care of us. They brought us celebratory Prosecco and our lovely waitress Bailey, attended to us numerous time throughout our meal. Customer service was FANTASTIC! The food was even better, we will be returning!!

Great location in downtown Chicago. Everything is made there. I got the pasta with portobello mushrooms 🍄 and loved it. Eating a properly cut and cooked 🍳 portobello is just as good as having a steak 🥩 in my opinion. Calamari as and appetizer which was also fresh and fried correctly. The scallops were also large and cooked to perfection 👌. Though 4-5 would be preferred with the cost of the dish. Even though I don't drink anymore I found they had a great liquor and wine selection as well. Great atmosphere and staff make this a must go destination if visiting downtown Chicago area.

I recently celebrated a good friend’s birthday at this restaurant. I really enjoyed my time here! The food was delicious and the service was spectacular. Our entrees were served to us so quickly. Everyone was so attentive. You guys have very kind staff! Thank you for all the pictures you took for us. The food portions were generous. You won’t go home hungry after dining here. Both dishes were 10/10’s. You guys know what you’re doing in the kitchen. Kisses to the chef.

Stopped in here with my parents and brother before a show at the Magic Parlour in the same building. The atmosphere here was very distinct and had lots of holiday flare. For food, we had: salmon, steak frites, mushroom pizza, coffee, and tiramisu. All of it was good, especially the coffee and tiramisu. We were on an exact timeline and our server (and the kitchen) made sure to get our food out quickly.

Had dinner there before a show. We let our server know and he made sure everything was paced appropriately. The food and cocktails were excellent! The service was excellent. There was always someone to refill our water and clear away our dishes even with a full restaurant. We will definitely be back!

Amazing spot for pre-theatre dinner. Had the Restaurant Week menu - 4 courses - and time caught up with us. Our server saw us rushing and offered the option of coming back after the show for dessert! Everything was waiting for us! Brilliant!!

We went after an Opera Matinée during the week, so we got there around 4:30 pm when it was quiet. The wait staff was attentive. The chicken Alfredo was a small portion but delicious. I also enjoyed the Italian Margaritas and Tiramisu. Lovely atmosphere for conversation with the framed caricatures of famous people, who have eaten there. It started getting busy at about 5:30pm. I We had a lovely time and enjoyed the food, beverages and dessert.

Great restaurant and great food. Because it was so cold outside ever single table inside was taken so we were very snug in the restaurant. We had about a 30 minute wait for our table but in the meantime we got drinks (mocktails)at the bar. We were served quickly at the bar, thankfully. When we were finally seated we waited a pretty long time to be acknowledged by our waiter but I attribute it to the fact that the restaurant was so full. When he took our order the food came out pretty quickly after that (about 40/45 minutes or so) and it was delicious. My friend added a bit more seasoning to her pasta, but I thought it was fine as it was.

We enjoyed our meal here before a theater show. The chopped salad was delicious. My son liked the gnocchi. My other son had the pepperoni pizza and would have like more spice. I ordered the special butternut squash risotto. It was good, but I would have liked more spice or flavor. The tiramisu was excellent. Great atmosphere.

Great if you need to grab a decent dinner after a show! Food was good (not best Chicago Italian ever had, but not terrible either) portion sizes were good! Gave it four stars because waitress was a bit rude & food seemed over priced for quality & service! The gentleman who cleaned tables was such a nice guy though!

It was a great dinner for the four of us, started with martinis, two of us selected menu items, two us of from the Restaurant Week selections. The steak offered thru restaurant week was a bit tough, but all the other items were wonderful. Cooked as we asked for, service was timed perfectly as we were attending theatre after dinner. Server, Tylor was helpful and did a great job.

C

Great for pre-theater dinner as they serve food here very fast! The tuna crudo was bland, but we really liked the short rib tagliatelle. The Brussel sprouts were good and the crab cake was decent too. Staff were great.

Reservation brunch with friend pre-show. Sat in the dining room with only a few tables of diners, service from waiter very slow and had to flag him down. Food was ok, friend got a wedge salad that was overtly huge, I had kale salad with chicken, nice candied walnuts and a couple glasses of wine. Not a dining destination I would seek out…AI described photos.

The seafood is fresh. The seasoning is delicate. The service is excellent and the selection is authentic. The Calamari is crispy with a delicious sauce. The burrata is rich and creamy. We also had the toasted ravioli. I've been on a separate occasion and the meatballs are tender and well seasoned. I definitely recommend.

Beautiful cozy warm and attentive and friendly staff. Indoor and outdoor seating. Nice interior and comfortable booths. The pasta (4 cheese ravioli) was good… a bit salty but tasty. Wait staff were wonderful. Fun place for drinks and dinner right before a show (it’s directly adjacent to the Goodman theater) as well as just a big party of fun people eating and drinking. The place is huge and it sits on a corner of the street. Street parking w meters are not really there so only mostly garage parking (you can use Spot Hero to get a discounted spot) or use CTA trains and buses.

We got the meatballs, the seafood pasta, steak frittes, tiramisu and the brownie. Everything tasted great. Will say though the meatballs were kind of cold in the center and weren’t my favorite. The seafood pasta and the steak though were great. We loved the desserts too!

The calamari was perfectly breaded! Not too heavy but also wasn't fried where the batter was falling off the calamari. Love the sauces that it came with. Had the Steak Frites for dinner and it was delicious. My husband had the fish and chips and did not enjoy it at all. However, he did enjoy the soup and the drinks. The service was great but they were busy serving a lot of tables so we had to wait a bit for little things. My husband's food took a bit long to come out and I believe in waiting for the table to be served completely before eating. Let's just say my food began to get cold. However, I will definitely be back. The bar also looked super fun to hang out at :)

Came in for a quick dinner before a show as Cadillac Palace Theatre. Service was quick and friendly, our food came out pretty fast as well. Definitely a good spot to come if you’re in the loop on the weekend as not many other options are open. Bonus that they served the shared dish on two separate plates!

My fiancée and I came here only for drinks after having a horrible experience at a rooftop restaurant nearby. We just wanted good drinks! This place was right by the hotel we were staying at and decided to stop in. We stopped an hour before they closed. The service was very welcoming and fast. The drinks did not disappoint and recovered our night! Did not give full five stars because we did not try the food. Recommend for drinks before an event or to end the night.

Great atmosphere! We sat outside on the patio and had great views of the city and the vibes were great. We got a few cocktails, a Caesar salad, and truffle fries to start and all were delicious. They have an awesome happy hour after 8pm that was a great price! Unfortunately, the reason for my three stars was my entree- we all got the vodka pasta and I added chicken and something was very off about the chicken I couldn’t even eat it. Unfortunately the waiter did not come by the table until I had pushed the chicken to the side and finished my pasta so I didn’t get to speak with him about it. We all left with stomach aches- not sure what specifically caused it but I think it may have been the pasta.

Overall litter disappointing, All the food felt like it was warm up and not even properly. Pizza was warm but not like out of oven and paste was between cold and warm. The oysters were amazing! Won't be going back as for the pricing I would expect better food.

I’ve passed this place so many times but never gave it a shot. It was decent for a quick lunch with friends. We went for restaurant week so $30 for 3 courses was perfect. The baked ricotta was outstanding but the texture of the chicken meatballs was really odd. The branzino was delicious, fresh and the skin was crispy. The gnocchi had mixed reviews from our group. If you enjoy mushrooms and other earthy flavors, its good but still could use more seasoning and flavor. But if not, you’ll probably not enjoy this. The peach panna cotta was wonderful and not too sweet

A
Alisha Cogdal

Really disappointed that the Italian beef is no longer on the menu. The burger wasn’t a good substitute bland and forgettable. The one highlight was my husband’s Chicken Limone, which was excellent. Service was another letdown. The place wasn’t busy, but our waitress never checked on us once to see if we needed anything or if our food was okay. She kept the alcoholic drinks topped off, but that was it. The music didn’t match the vibe of the place it was too heavy on the techno. We’d been looking forward to coming back for a year because our last visit was amazing. This time? Totally forgettable. Next trip to Chicago, I’ll try somewhere else.

Cristina Desan

I liked the atmosphere and the decor. I took ravioli with 4 types of cheese, I didn't like the taste of fried garlic, I think it should have been removed after it was cooked. the husband had spaghetti with meatballs, the meatballs were cold inside and the pasta overcooked. I would not return. the service, likewise, disappointed me. I asked twice to turn on the heat, because they sat us on the terrace, and it was raining outside. because of the rain, the terrace was flooded

C
Cory Davis

The price doesn’t match the food quality and drink quality. It may not be true but the server told me they only had cola or lemonade available as non-alcoholic and both tasted like the fountain had soap in it. The food is a bit overpriced for what it is. You’d be better off going to a chain, in my opinion. Honorable mention for the Chicken Limone dish, that was actually really good.

Solid Italian food. My chicken parm was good although it was not warm. The steak another member of my party got was very tasty. I thought it odd that we weren't able to get any bread for the table.

S

Bar service slow to acknowledge my presence for after play held left over pick up. I dined at the bar prior to my theater performance. My potatoes & Asparagus were cold. No bread basket..Salt, pepper & butter had to be requested..very disappointing. Goodman member years prior to Petterino food options. 2nd dining experience with this season with me left feeling marginalized.

I was stunned at how much I disliked the food. Place has a great reputation. The ceaser salad was dry and flavorless and my substitute dinner the pasta puttanesca was all fish flavor (anchovies). I’m not a picky eater. Nice people though. The cocktail was pricey (to be expected), but excellent. Peppermint ice cream was great (a freebie).

Party of 3, we had not planned to dine after The Chicago Theater but found Petterino’s. We did not have reservations but after a 15 minute wait we were “allowed” to have a table but were told we would need to vacate the table within an hour and 15 minutes for a reservation (odd stipulation that I’ve never encountered in my life at any restaurant). The atmosphere was superb the decor was great unfortunately we were seated in an enclosed patio near the sidewalk so we didn’t get to admire the many caricatures displayed on all the walls throughout the rest of the restaurant. The only attentive, helpful, polite and professional staff was the busboy!! Our waiter seemed bothered by any menu questions I had, regarding portion sizes. I started with a salad that had at minimum a quarter teaspoon of house dressing, a marvelous array of greens and a nice size portion but absolutely no detectable taste of dressing! For my entree I ordered the steak frites and it was so horrible! So chewy and had a layer of tendon that was like cutting a rubber band!! My other 2 guests’ entrees were just ok, rigatoni vodka and fettuccine Alfredo. For an Italian restaurant I have never had portions this tiny, we left almost as hungry as we came in. We were handed dessert menus by the busboy. We decided to try the tiramisu since I am an expert at making my own homemade tiramisu I always enjoy trying the dessert at every Italian restaurant to compare to mine. I asked the waiter of the approximate size of the tiramisu and he repeatedly told me “it’s medium size”. Ok, so with my hands I created a square shape but he only said “it’s medium”. OMG! So I asked for 3 tiramisu desserts but told him one would be “to go”, I did repeat specifically that my daughter was going to take her dessert to go but we were going to have the other 2 here. He dropped a plate (yes a literal thud on our table, 3 times) and a dessert spoon in front of each of us, which I thought was odd, since we would each be getting a dessert. NOPE! He brought one tiramisu for us 3 to share and one in a carry out bag (to go). I definitely will never go back to Petterino’s in Chicago again I have had much better service, experience, quality and portions at MANY other Italian restaurants.

I have never made a complaint but for this time I cannot say anything. This is not my first or second time going to this restaurant I always got a very nice treatment. Even I always bring some new people over the country to this place. But today I approached to the lady to ask if there is a table available then she told me “no, but you can wait 20 minutes” she took my name and phone number. After 20 minutes she called my name and the table she offered to me I did not like and ask her if can I wait for another one, and she was so rude and told me “it should be this one or nothing” I was in shock but I didn’t say anything and just left the place. I got embarrassed in front of the foreign customer I brought there. I do believe this is not the behaviour from you guys. I felt discriminated for my English accent. Have a nice day. But you should do something to improve this treatment to old and new costumers because of your own brand.
