I love it here. So amazing. CH is our go to for sushi. We have literally never been disappointed here. The service is impeccable. It's such a clean and modern aesthetic in the back you walk by some of the fish and it feels almost like a speakeasy. I never walk away feeling hungry. The portions are large and AMAZING quality. They did amazing for a private event we threw with them. Truly an amazing gem. If you are looking for quality all around this is a place you will never be disappointed by.

I’ve had the pleasure of visiting CH Distillery/Joto several times, and with each visit the level of service has exceeded my expectations. Amazing cocktails, incredible sushi, and an ambiance that’s great for a date night or just gathering with friends. The team here are simply top notch. Special shout out to Tony and Adam for another memorable experience.

High quality and specialty sushi Chicago has to offer. The omakase bar experience was over the top offering an intimate setting with chef to savor every bite of the delish curated tasting menu. Love the apps. Fav is crispy tuna bites, ebi tempura roll, and hubby loves toro toro toro. Frequent year round diner.

The food was absolutely delicious. It was flavorful and fresh. The Uni, which I never eat because it can have an off flavor if it’s not fresh, was to die for. My partner ordered a second uni hand roll after our 14 course meal. The prawn was buttery and cooked to perfection, not rubbery. Service was wonderful, very low key and fun atmosphere. Would highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a great sushi spot in Chicago!

This is the place I have been waiting for. I heard about Jinsei Motto’s omakase on Instagram (@chitownsushi) and it looked amazing so I had to check it out. Jinsei Motto is located inside CH Distillery. The vibe inside is super sleek, but fun, lively, and still laid back. You can order cocktails or drinks from the distillery, or you can do a tasting that’s paired with the omakase. We did the pairing and loved it. You get generous pours, and they really mix up the flavors in a fun way that still compliments each bite. The owner, Tony, also stopped by several times just to chat and voluntarily top off our drinks and that was amazing. Very personal and genuine service. Now the omakase. OMG. It is so so so good. It is without a question up there with Kyōten and Sushi Suite, but less $$$ than Kyōten and slightly less than Sushi Suite. While we did not get to meet the chef, his partner who was super knowledgeable about omakase (and super friendly) brought each piece out and made it a very personalized experience - one we did not get at places like Mako, etc. So in addition to the flavors and quality, the service takes this place a step above the rest IMO. They also personalized our menus with the names on our reservation, so that was another special touch. At the end of the omakase service, they also offer you an a la carte menu so you can order more of the pieces you loved. That was a cool option to have. Overall I can’t wait to go back. Check it out!

Love CH! This is my favorite bar in the city! We’ve been going for years and have loved to see how the place has grown and developed. I highly recommend the tour they do as well as their comedy night! The food is great and I’m always impressed with the menus they offer, especially considering their kitchen space. Their beverage menu is always on point!

The food and atmosphere were amazing! We had a reservation and the host was extremely kind and quick seating us. The seating was extremely cozy and romantic even being inside a lively distillery. The music was great. The lighting was perfect. The host and wait staff made amazing cocktail and food recommendations in the most friendly manner. Our table was constantly being tended to without being disruptive. My fiancé and I shared the crispy tuna bites, the Tokushu Setto, 2 beautiful maki rolls, and tried all the mochi ice cream for dessert. We also had The Baby Shark cocktail which was so good we ordered a few. All of our food came out quickly but perfectly paced and of course everything was DELICIOUS. All in all, this place is a MUST for date night.

This was our second visit to this place, and luckily, we made it in time for happy hour. We ordered a classic Sake set and tried the Hamachi Serrano and The Kraken, Spicy Bluefin Tuna rolls—all of which were fantastic. Given that sourcing fresh fish for sushi in Chicago can be challenging, they use specially aged fish that bring out unique flavors. If you're a sushi lover, I highly recommend trying this place. They also offer a variety of delicious drinks. This time, I tried their espresso martini, which was absolutely fantastic. Make sure to check out this place for your next happy hour.

Wow. Where to begin! It was my first time at CH Distillery, and man did they knock it out of the park. Ambiance is inviting and cozy, with great music. Our server Cara was incredible! Very knowledgeable with all the spirits they had to offer. We decided to order off their new sushi menu offered by Jinsei Motto, and I could not be more impressed. Chef Patrick and Andrew went above and beyond in terms of quality and creativity. Every single item was absolutely sensational. I can’t imagine going anywhere else for sushi after this experience. I wish I could give more than 5 stars. Thanks again to everyone at CH and Jinsei Motto for making this an unforgettable dining experience! I cannot wait to return again and again!

Great place! Bartenders really know their stuff and have some great spirits. The sushi was also delicious and I highly recommend the oysters and uni!!

Bartenders that serv up premium cocktails that Don't disappoint. Already ate prior to our visit but would definitely go back to check out the bites! Manhattan on the left and old fashion on the right, very nice.

Ordered the Nigiri Setto while having drinks at CH Distillery. Best sushi I've had in a long time! Great presentation, amazing flavors and prepared to perfection! Melted in my mouth

This place is INCREDIBLE! Drinks are unique and delicious, the food is mind-blowing, and the atmosphere is swanky and cool. The prices are great and I can’t wait to come back!

One of the best cocktail places I've been to . They can only serve their own liquor do even the bitters and what not are made in house.

New owners of Malort. This Chicago distillery has great cocktails, games and even a private event space. Check out their tour schedule online, but stop in for drinks either way.

Great service! Great drinks! Chill and casual vibe! They have a distillery tour!

The best omakase ever. All of the courses is my favorite. Thank you chef patrick and Jinsei Motto team

Drinks were great, but service was amazing. The bartender (unfortunately can’t remember his name) let us try a bunch of the spirits and even gave us a flight on the house!

J

Well done, team Jōtō! Every detail - from the decor and dry-aging display to the menu and sake options - was thoughtfully done. The omakase was phenomenal (shoutout to the amberjack, tuna run, and that incredible salad appetizer), and the service was exceptional. Huge thanks to the whole team for such a special meal.

I was a mission to find a rare Malort type (anti-hero) due to me moving this fall and went Reddit and was directed to CH. At first I didn’t unsure if info was true and called and was informed that they had it in stock. I decided to take trip there to pick-up my unicorns I have been searching for. I walked into thinking it was more of a bottle shop and immediately froze up because it was a very nice restaurant bar. That’s on me for not doing my homework. The host picked up I looked lost and said “you’re the guy who called about the anti hero?” And broke the ice. She handed me off to manager (Antonio) to discuss what I was looking for. He told me they had it and some other fun stuff and he needed to round up. While waiting the bartender and host chatted me up on the history of restaurant. Antonio came back with herd of Malort unicorns. He showed me each and let me sample a few to help with my decisions. I ended up getting six different types of Malort. I was only there 25 minutes but I was shocked on how great everyone I interacted with (host, bartender, Antonio) They really created a great experience out of something that I thought was gonna be a in and out transaction. If you are a Malort fan I would highly recommend checking this location out to beef up your collection.

Great cocktails, great selection of sake and other drinks and friendly staff. We popped in for one drink sat by the bar and our server was a blonde lady who was an excellent host. Did intend to return for the omakase but unfortunately did not have time on this trip. Highly recommend for drinks and the food looked pretty decent too (but can't vouch for it as didn't try it!)

This is quite literally some of the best sushi I've had in a very long time. The ambiance and experience here with some of the things they are doing here that many places don't do like dry aging their fish. Couple this with the most Chicago thing you can drink here being Malort. This place will hands down forever be one of the best sushi spots that's doing things their own way.

M
Matt Scutchfield

Mixed reviews here, but for me, the bartenders were amazing. Probably the kindest I’ve ever met. Soooooo nice!!!!! Yes it’s a bit pricey, but the drinks are awesome. Did not try the food. If you love Malört, this place is a must visit, right?

S
Sapna Negi

What an amazing place! The sushi is the best I have had in Chicago and the cocktails are to die for. Talk to Elliot at the bar and they will make you what you like. They are the best bartender.

A friend and I visited the Christmas pop up yesterday. The cocktail menu is fantastic with about 8+ unique holiday themed cocktail to choose from, all using their own liquors. Our waitress was great and had good recommendations. You can sit inside close to the big window they have open for air flow, so it’s a much warmer option than many restaurants that only do tents. They have heaters outside the big window to warm it up. Still dress appropriately but we were not cold. We will be back soon!

Easy 5/5. I spent too much time at mediocre restaurants while visiting chicago, I should have spent all my time here. Sushi was amazing, tasted the bourbon, gin and limoncello and bought two bottles. Definitely stop in and don’t waste your time elsewhere 🔥

The cocktails here are very good. The mixologists are to notch, and the bar food is absolutely great. The staff is awesome, so willing to explain anything to you, and they make you feel they are genuinely happy to have you there. My favorite cocktail is Rosemary's Baby. It's sweet, sour and savory. I have bought everything they make here, and I have bought them over and over. They are very good.

Jōtō Sushi was phenomenal. The food was absolutely amazing from start to finish, and our server was truly outstanding. Even though I can’t remember their name, his knowledge and detailed recommendations made the entire experience feel elevated and thoughtful. We strayed away from the omakase menu as we were a group of 4, with everyone wanting different things. Still- everything we ordered was spot-on. Will definitely be back!

This was the best place I have ever been to. The service was amazing, and the people were the nicest and most helpful workers. I went there with my girlfriend for date night, and we weren't going to stay for dinner, as we were just having a drink and a nibble of food. BUT this place was unreal. The food was absolutely delicious. like the best I had ever had. I'm amazed by this place for real. I will 1000000% be going back.

My husband, daughter, and I went to CH Distillery | Jōtō Sushi to celebrate our anniversary and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere was sauve and comfortable, the service was stellar - thank you, Nick - and the food was nothing short of amazing. This dinner was truly a highlight to our weekend stay in Chicago. If you are looking for remarkable sushi, look no further.

Maybe the biggest hidden gem sushi experience in Chicago. The dry aging program is unique and the fish is absolutely phenomenal. Drinks were great, the “two room” style with cocktail bar in the front and omikase/sushi lounge in the back is so cool. The best sushi experience and bites I’ve had in Chicago and some of the best I’ve had in the country. Get the dry aged marinated salmon, it will change your life.

Super fresh and delicious sushi! Every piece was perfect, beautifully plated, and full of flavor. Great service and a chill atmosphere—definitely coming back!

I wish my stomach and wallet were bigger. I loved the handrolls from the happy hour menu! The spicy tuna was balanced with its spiciness. The salmon avo was creamy. And the negi hamachi had a beautiful sauce. All 3 the fish tasted incredibly buttery and fresh. The tuna carpaccio was one single piece of tuna with microgreens on top but it was still very good - though I probably wouldn't order it again just because it was so little fish. The menu itself has large selection of sake at a lot of different price points. I enjoyed the Snow Maiden (it was definitely creamy). I would come back in a heartbeat. The vibes are pretty lowkey and there is a fun view into the distillery from the restaurant.

Being an island girl, I know quality seafood when I taste it and this place is by far the best I’ve been for sushi. Cocktails are awesome. Cozy ambiance and top notch service. Our server, Nick is friendly and attentive. Everyone in this restaurant is friendly.

The food here was excellent! Their drink menu is spot on every time. The staff are super friendly—when my friend didn’t like his drink, they noticed and swapped it out without charging him. Amazing service!

The best Sushi I've had in the United States. It's the home of malort as well, and it's well worth it to get the flight to experience the taste of Chicago. The service was excellent and the staff was friendly.

The sushi here is a great “hidden gem” within a distillery. Server and chef took the time to explain everything and give recommendations. CH Distillery makes Malort, which is very much an acquired taste but a “right of passage” when you visit Chicago and this distillery. Although the paring with sushi is not the best, you definitely need to try once.

Modern bar+restaurant located in west loop. The staff were very friendly with good recommendations. I only had drinks here, so I can’t speak about the food. In regard to drinks, a variety of sake, beer, and wine is offered at different price points. They also carry NA Beer from Asahi! The Asahi draft was pretty good and reasonably priced. The dining and bar area was clean and well kept. I recommend this location for grabbing a drink or two.

N
Nabil Foster

Very good cocktails from their own distilled spirits. Food is limited to small plates of good quality ingredients or small sandwiches. It can become loud when crowded. Bartenders are eager to talk about the spirits made there.

Nice bar, good atmosphere! Love the gingerbread mule drink, my boyfriend had their old fashioned and like it. We also ordered a side of cheese and it came with toast and jelly! They don't have good food options so don't come here hungry.... Overall a great bar for hang out :)

I'm not sure how our holiday party compares to regular venue, but a good place if you like hard drinks. I rarely do, but enjoyed "Old Fashioned." Hard working and friendly staff. Not a good spot for intimate conversation. They no longer brew there, but equipment looks nice. Close to Ogilvie Station if you are over the limit. Be safe.

I've been in the Chicagoland area for over 15years now...and yet this was my first experience of MALÖRT... And it will be the last time! :) Except for the Tequila and Japanese whiskey, the rest of it distilled onsite. Surprised that they carried Suntory Yamazaki. Enjoyed it with clear ice.

M

Interior very cozy with an impressive distillery setup backdrop. The cocktail glasses must have shrunk in the wash. Otherwise quite a nice spot. I would have loved to hear more about the copper distillery system.

P

Cool spot for craft drinks. The Xmas story theme sounded fun, but didnt really live up to the expectations.

B
Bonnie Gebhart

The service here was nice and they were quick to get us seated. However, the cocktails fell flat. I had a gin based drink and I couldn't tell if it was the actual gin that didn't have any floral notes to it or if the cocktail mixers was what brought it down - there was no depth to it. The same thing with my husband's spicy old fashioned, which was not very good either...

V
Victoria Chirman

We truly loved dining at CH Distillery’s sushi spot. The food was outstanding—fresh, beautifully prepared, and easily some of the best sushi we’ve had. The only downside to our experience was the seating. We were placed in the back room, which unfortunately lacked the vibrant, upbeat, high-end atmosphere of the front dining area. What made this more confusing was that over 75% of the restaurant appeared empty at the time, yet we were not offered a choice of where to sit. The front room clearly has a much better ambiance, and it was disappointing not to be given one of the best seats in the house upon arrival. That said, the quality of the food was exceptional, and we would absolutely return—hopefully next time with seating that matches the excellence of everything else.

B
Ben Yavitz

Drinks are good but pricey. 18% tip is added to all bills which is fine for food but not on drinks. All liquor drinks are $12 but with tio and tax are almost $16. This place distills all of it's own liquor so you pay a premium. The food experience was very poor and extremely expensive for tiny portions. The hush puppies were too dry and you only get 5 for $9; the tiny and poorly flavored mussels were also regrettable $17 why tip/tax for a snack; the poutine didn't taste like poutine.

J
Jennifer Duffner

My fiancé and I came here after work to grab few appetizers and a cocktail in the bar area. Our server, Nick, took our drink order and after my fiancé said he was good with just water (he doesn't drink), he seemed annoyed. It then took over 20 minutes for my glass of wine to arrive (barely anyone seated in the bar on a Tuesday). When we place our order, he was again annoyed that we ordered 4 items and said "that's it?"....he continued to be impolite, never asking if we needed anything, how things were tasting, etc. We asked for the check so he pulled up the Toast tablet, we tipped him 20%, he took it back and walked away. Never said "thank you" or "have a nice night". Overall, he was incredibly rude and made our experience negative at CH Distillery. There are so many incredible options for dining in that area and we will not be coming back.

M
Mitch Fitzpatrick

Got seated and promptly forgotten about. It took 45 minutes to get our drink order in. The floor manager proceeded to make jokes and blame the waiter who likely wasn't informed or our table. Regardless of the service the food itself was quite disappointing. We had the tuna bites starter that was extremely hard to chew. I seriously wondered if I might lose a filling from it. The issue seems it was fried once on a previous day and quickly refried for serving, leaving a very chewy up appetizing texture. The sushi rolls were good, if you don't like sushi. They coated the scallops in so much, what seems to be cream cheese, that you couldn't actually appreciate the scallops. The gyoza was over cooked and quite bland. The sake was quite pleasant. They didn't have any heavy rice based sake, but what they did have was light and fragrant. Come from the drinks, but don't stay for the food.

A
Adam Bielanski

It was a nice place and sampling of spirits would have been nice. However there was four of us there and we all felt suckered after getting the bill for doing shots. Would have been cheaper to offer us bottles rather then drink shots for the time we were there. We had to beg for the waiter to get us anything and just felt ignored from the moment we walked in. For the price we paid we should have received much better service. Been there done it and will never go there again.
