Opinions de British Bulldog Brewery Chico
Atmosphere is great! The patio seats are well shaded and placed with plenty of space to spare between tables so you don't feel crowded or cramped. The staff are all super friendly and look like they're genuinely happy to be working here. The drink selection is huge and variable so there's something for everyone (my husband and I love the Lassen Traditional Cider!). We got the Bangers and Mash, the Scottish Egg, and the Shepherd pie. Forgot to take pics of the egg, but the flavor was great! I prefer my egg to be more soft boiled, but the hard boiled was still delicious. The Bangers and Mash was inhaled by my husband who loved every bit of it, including the onion-y gravy to pour on top. The Shepherd pie (made with beef, not lamb) was packed full of flavors and is the perfect comfort food! Overall this place is such a gem and I look forward to spending even more time here in the future!
I can not say enough good things about this establishment. The owners were so friendly and accommodating, the food was warm and comforting and the patio was so inviting and cozy. The inside of the pub was as close to a real English pub that I've been to in the states. The beers were awesome too. One of the best places I've been to in a long time.
This is easily my favorite spot for a frosty pint in Chico these days. Great selection of varieties to please all palates, each crafted with clear dedication to the brewing traditions across the pond. If you're stopping in for something more substantial, there is a good variety of equally authentic British fare. Flaky, savory vegetarian pasty was so rich and delicious. Check out the live music on the breezy, shaded patio for a wonderfully transporting experience. Decor follows the fun theme with some nice merchandise as well. No to mention the owners--lovelier people you will not find! I can't recommend this place enough for so many reasons. Justin & Emma I love visiting whenever I'm in town just to see your smiles. Keep being awesome 👍
Love these people AND the Pub! Super friendly owners, GREAT beer, and fantastic food! A hidden gem--how did I not know about this place? Can't wait to go in summer and sit outside on the lovely patio!
I have been waiting for a place like this forever! Absolutely amazing! Beautiful location and cozy interior, GREAT staff, delicious food (English-style pub cuisine you cannot find anywhere else in Chico), and not to mention an amazing selection of beer brewed by the owners! I have loved British Bulldog Brewery and to see a place like this to showcase it is a dream! Thank you!
Love music was great. Everything was delicious and served quickly. Do not recommend children. The language of some large and small groups of patrons was filled with the F word and other inappropriate language spoken loudly by sober and inebriated people. The tables are close to each other. No escape.
This place is great. The location is a little bit off the beaten path because it's in the parking lot for the bank of America at 5th and Salem, but they have a beautiful garden area with big trees providing shade on a huge outdoor patio which is just wonderful. Then the inside is decorated just like an English pub and looks really great. The beers they have on tap were all very good, and all brewed by them. We only tried some of the appetizers for the food but the other food we saw people eating looked very good. They're open from 2:00 to 10:00 p.m. 5 days a week so I think they're closed on Sunday and Monday. But it's definitely a great new addition to the Chico pub scene.
Great place! A little tucked away, but worth finding! Deliscous brews and eats. Happy to see they incorporate local drinks and ingredients. Cant wait to go back to enjoy the beautiful outdoor patio, or the nice indoor space. Seems to be ran by very nice folks!
This is the BEST place to eat and drink in Chico. Absolutely delicious food and beer! Great service. Steve, Allison, Emma, and Justin are the nicest people and most gracious hosts you will ever meet. We always enjoy the relaxed atmosphere every time we visit. 😄
My husband, friends and I went for the Irish music. My husband and I personally had never been, really had the genuine English family pub vibe! Great food, beer and music 🎶
One of the best restaurants in Chico. I would never have thought to describe British food as delicious, but this truly is! The atmosphere inside feels like a cozy English pub. The patio outside is a beautiful oasis under a majestic oak tree.
Best food and atmosphere in Chico. The flaky crust of the hand pies and shepherds pie are other worldly, fresh and piping hot. You will not be disappointed. Great ales! Beautiful atmosphere. Don't miss this gem.
My first time ….will definitely be back….can’t speak to the overall food menu yet but really liked the setting and atmosphere….
Incredible food, beer, and atmosphere. Pubs like this are a rare find.
This place is so nice! The food is so good, and the staff is so warm and welcoming! It's also kinda romantic, they have a beautiful patio space. Great for a date night or even just a casual meet up with friends. A truly authentic dining experience. They also have a lovely selection of home brewed beer, the owners have their own Brewery. 10/10
The Allies Pub – Chico, CA Atmosphere & Setting We found The Allies Pub tucked into the heart of downtown Chico at 426 Broadway St., Ste 130—a charming hideaway that artfully channels the feel of a traditional British pub. Inside, you’ll notice cozy touches: warm lighting, décor nodding to British pub-heritage (including artwork of English bulldogs), and a welcoming vibe. While the menu is relatively compact, there’s a sense of focus and quality over quantity. One minor caveat: a few diners mention the price point being on the higher side for pub fare—but the consensus seems to be that the ingredients and preparation justify it. Beverages & Service The Allies also shines in its beverage offerings. It’s part of the larger framework of the British Bulldog Brewery, so there’s an emphasis on craft ales, rotating taps, and even some British-style cask options. Service consistently receives praise: staff are friendly, attentive, and draw compliments for their knowledge of both food and beer. Final Thoughts We’d rate The Allies Pub as a strong choice when you’re in Chico and craving a well-crafted pub experience—not just in food and drink, but in ambiance and service, too. It’s particularly well suited for: • An evening out with friends where you want more than just “bar snacks.” • A date night on the patio with good beer and comfort food. • Beer or pub-food aficionados looking for something out of the standard chain model. Recommendation: Make a reservation if it’s a weekend evening—they get busy. And if the weather allows, opt for patio seating; it’s a real highlight.
Very amazing food and love how it is piping hot and freshly made. The atmosphere is very relaxing and some days there is live music playing. Perfect place to relax and enjoy British food.
Awesome pub with great food! Had the Rancher Pastry Topped Pie and a flight of their cold beer. Pie was flaky and the filling was delicious. Beer was great too! Definitely worth going back again!
I attended a business meeting here with the owner, Stephen. This pup is just like the ones we have visited in cities in England and definitely gives that vibe. The artwork of the English bulldogs on the wall makes this place super friendly and one you would want to come and hang out with friends. The atmosphere is fantastic, and the owner is very kind and loves serving his guests. Would highly recommend the next time you’re in downtown Chico.
The atmosphere and decor here are amazing! Staff is helpful and attentive. Pub style so you must order drinks and food yourself, no waiters. Menu items are true and authentic. Classics like pot pies and meaty hearty foods are available. Great selection of beer and also offer wine and bubbly. The owners are kind and love what they do. The whole experience was relaxing sitting in the beautiful patio. Definitely coming back. Parking isn't too bad but it is hidden behind the b of a. Bathrooms are clean and updated. Kid friendly depending on the hour.
One of my favorite places in Chico. Allies Pub is always a good time, whether dining inside (cozy interior, fireplace, beautiful ceiling) or outside (large patio under a tree with string lights and heaters). Staff are friendly and take pride in their business. We love to try the rotating beer taps. Pretzel with beer cheese appetizer is delish. Also highly recommend the pasties and shepherds pie. Dog friendly patio!
Great comfort food and drinks. Me and friend came here one night and while they have a limited food and drink menu, we were not disappointed. The drinks were great, the food was incredible and the staff was welcoming and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting. Featured in the photos are the Bangers and Mash and Shepards Pie. (I don't recall the names of the drinks) Cheers! 🍻
This bar is the cutest and super cozy! My hubby and I went there for a drink one night and we ended up meeting a couple that we became really good friends with and now we hang out all the time. We created a memory right then and there, we also met the owner, super down to earth person. Oh yeah and this place also has amazing food and a great amostphere.
Fun British pub and restaurant. Good food and beer. Friendly staff. Enjoy live music which they have often
One of my absolute go to's when im in chico. Great beer selections and food. Owners and employees are extremely kind and provide great service.
The Allies Pub offers an assortment of tasty and smooth British style ales as well as classic home style British entrees like Bangers and Mash. It's a must visit restaurant in downtown Chico! They've got one of the best patios in town hands down. The service is great and the ambiance is amazing. Plus it's family owned and operated. Check it out...you'll be back.
Wow! I don't say that lightly. From the patio fire table to the delicious creative assortment of dinners and appetizers (albeit small menu) they hit every note at Allies Pub. Wine and beers offered top it all off to make one of the most enjoyable Friday evenings I've had at a restaurant in Chico in a very long time. Hidden behind BofA it has a quiet and cozy patio that welcomes you into an adorable restaurant. The love put into creating this family owned restaurant is obvious. We ordered a large array of food while we were there and not one dish disappointed us. Portions are excellent, recipes created with real home cooking and distinct flavors. Their hard work pays off for anyone who enjoys great food and the most attentive, friendly and welcoming service we have had since the start of Covid. Do pay attention to reservation times at tables. We were having so much fun we overstayed our reservation. However, they handled this with grace and we left knowing we will be back. Evenings on the patio are a special treat.
What a gem of a place. We went twice in one week and can't get enough. The pie crust on the pot pies and the pasties are so flaky and tender. New Chico favorite for sure.
Great little pub in a quiet alley in downtown Chico. Very warm and friendly vibe with nice selection of classic British grub. Definitely worth checking out.
Really cozy spot that successfully delivers on the English pub vibe. Nice outdoor area in front. Diverse array of English and American style ales. Many American wine offerings. Didn’t try the food but it rightly looks like what you’d find in an English pub!

Live music and make excellent food! I ate the Hodge Podge dish and it was perfect board of food and flavors that went exceedingly well together, from blueberries and strawberries to the falafel and dipping sauce was just absolutely amazing!
They had a great live band. The server's were amazing. We sat outside in a fully covered tent but we stated warm in the cool weather.
The pasties are AMAZING. The crust/pastry is absolutely divine. The chicken curry filling was delicious. I tried the beef one my boyfriend ordered and that was also very good. Can't wait to come back and try more items. (I never thought I'd feel that way about British food, lol.) The patio is stunning, though it's currently too hot outside for me to take advantage of it. The lady at the bar/register was very friendly and helpful. I'm not a beer fan, so I can't comment on that, but the hard pomegranate-apple cider I had was good.

The atmosphere here is what wins this place over. The outdoor and indoor seating looks good and well accented by a beautiful old brick building. We ordered one drink, two entrees, and a pretzel - it cost $76, not counting tips. This should give you an idea of how expensive this place is. I think my wallet had a stroke. The food itself tasted alright. Didn't blow my socks off. A lot of the items are paired with a really big salad without dressing - it was bizarre. Tried four different drinks that they recommended - the cocktail was good, but the three beers were all very heavy and dark (even the blonde one). If you're into that, you'll love them, but it wasn't my preference. The crowd here was a bit older and wasn't obnoxious at all, which was nice. The place is well shielded from the insanity of college students on the main strip, and parking was easy. The service was really nice. The pretzels here are AMAZING.
Staff was very friendly. Beautiful environment. Enjoyed our meal outside in their dog friendly patio. Oliver's twist, cox pastie, and ranchers pie all very good. Will be back for sure. Only downside was the choice of beer. We prefer something lite like a pilsner and there was only 1 beer that accommodated our taste.
The 2 man, 1 woman (McBride?), were terrific. On the downside, the young boys in charge of tables were clueless. No eye contact, scowling faces, no bussing of the used dishes (they didn't even look). One would practically have to trip them to get their attention. The price of food is horrific but it's also really good. All in all, if there is entertainment or if you just wish to sit in the outside garden area and enjoy the surroundings, an interesting menu, good food, and beautiful building and surroundings...this is perfect.
I really enjoyed the rancher pie. The crust was yummy dipped in the stew inside. I do wish the silverware included a spoon. The menu was simple. But I felt bad that I got the last rancher pie prepared for the day. My sister wanted one to and had to get her 2nd choice, the bangers and mash, which she enjoyed. My other sister got a flight of beer. She only really liked two of the four but my dad had a different beer than any in the flight that was really tasty. The 2 she didn't like were more bitter than she likes. I think that anyone could find a beer they like here.
Visited twice this past week, ordered the same item. First time it was exceptional, ordered pasties by the way, which is why I took a different group back. Second time ordered same item, was a disappointment, the potatoes were hard and under cooked. Felt like I was eating raw potato. The crust was still good. Just a disappointment the food isn't consistent. Attribute it to possibly my second visit being a Friday night and it was packed, not sure. I will give it another try and see how it goes.
Lovely courtyard where is to dance nice music. Little expensive on the beer The acoustics inside aren't made for music but it's beautiful ❤️
Great ale selection. Was excited about coming for the food but it was not great tonight
Very unique British style pub. They had a band playing outside when I went and really good beer I've never seen anywhere else. The food is also unique, I had dinner kind of pulled pork in a croissant or something, it was good. I'd say the biggest draw is the environment and it just being a British style pub. It was busy when I went and they only had one server so there was a huge line. So when you order your drinks get a bunch

It pains me that I can only give a 3 star rating as I love this place. The brews are outstanding. Here’s my problem. We made a reservation. We were given, in our opinion , the worst table right next to the parking lot, while walk ups were given preferential tables. People that were seated after we ordered were seated and served before our food was served. Even though my pie was delicious, it lacked half the ingredients it was supposed to have. Then after waiting an hour for our order, when I attempted to order dessert, I was told the kitchen was closed. Still, we do love this business and will return. Hopefully next time things will improve.
Cute place with lots of Beer selections however we had the Fisherman which was $26.75 and had virtually no fish or shrimp and was 99% gravy with peas & carrots, and the Leprechaun which featured only 3 small cubes of corned beef & a few strands of cabbage in a puff pastry. Food was way over priced, and I would not order these dishes again. Don’t waste your money!
