I've only brunched here once, but from that experience, I can tell this is an excellent spot. The menu is quite interesting with not a single boring-looking dish. I've had shakshuka from a few different places before, and this one was easily the best to-date. Everything our table ordered had unique flavors (including the hot sauce). The sticky bun has a subtle orange flavor to it that reminded me of an elevated version of those Pillsbury rolls we'd make as kids. This is definitely a much higher quality breakfast than most of us can make at home, and it's not very expensive either. I'll be sure to pay them a visit the next time I'm in town, and you should too!

1/4/19 Great place for different pallats. Everything was cooked perfectly. We had the roasted beet ap, the beef cheek and brazed pork ribs specials. We ended with a olive oil cake which I loved. I like more heart and meaty food and enjoyed this place. They use as much local food as they can which I think is great. Mixed drinks could use some more standard options, I like what they offer but this would sell.

Great staff and excellent food. I have been twice and each visit has been incredible. Today I had the Benedict. It had so much flavor in the house cured ham. I also used their house hot sauce. It is habanero pepper based and gave the dish a little bit of sweetness that I really appreciated. The rest of the group I was with loved each of their dishes as well. All four of us had clean plates. A fantastic meal all around.

A Cleveland gem for 23 years! Thank you Chef Karen Small for bringing farm to table to CLE way before it was cool and creating amazing food every single day. We'll miss The Fig terribly. The best!

A winning combination of SAPT (Service, Atmosphere, Presentation, and Taste). We sat at the bar where both bartenders were not only polite but performing and perfecting their craft with mixed drinks. Everyone looked amazing. They were also swift to ask us for our order, and kind about small and inexpensive selections. We got the cauliflower gratin. A spin on potatoes gratin made with gruyere cheese. It was a perfect starter overall, but because of the use of a bechamel we were left wanting after a small crustini or dense bread. The atmosphere was nice with plenty of space and decor that fits in between sophisticated old world meets modern art. We will go back for another round of appetizers or perhaps a full dinner. It may also be a nice place to grab a lunch sandwich as they have a side menu for quick order lunch.

We saw this place on the Food channel and it was a definite must go to on my Google maps! We came here looking for the Brunch Burger and it was discontinued. That was a bummer, but no fear, Deliciousness was near! We opted for the Breakfast Sage Sausage Sandwich and it was a Grand Slam!!! The Brioche Bun soaked up the juice from the Sausage and that flavorful aioli and the Rosemary red skin potatoes made a great side. And to top it off Mimosa!!!

I had one of the best pasta bolognese dishes I've ever had in my life here! Also had an amazing cheese tray. The outside area is super nice and relaxing. Great dining experience

Awesome food. Amazing experience. This is a gem with awesome atmosphere and a great menu. Had the chicken livers and choizo meatballs, everything was fantastic.

This meal was so incredibly good! I didn't know what to expect, but I wasn't expecting my tastebuds to take a visit to heaven. The sweet and savory of this meal was out of this world. Lived it!!

Delicious food. Outstanding staff! That's salt and pepper in the little containers. Great place

My fiancé and I had dinner here while visiting Cleveland and had a wonderful time! The food selection was focused and interesting (they pride themselves on sourcing ingredients locally) and the cocktail menu had lots of exciting options. We loved the ambiance and the service was wonderful, would highly recommend!

The breakfast sandwich is so good and can put you back to sleep!😎. And the buckwheat pancakes are something special.

Delicious dinner, hangar steak with very fresh romaine and tomatoes with oil, my requested dressing substitute. Especially satisfying, steak was melt-in-my-mouth perfection!

Great brunch, I can't post the pic because I HOOVERED my spicy eggs over tomato based veggie stew. The drinks are splendid and dinner is also a lovely experience.

The food here is incredible and wonderful staff!! If you have the opportunity to order the pan fried trout do not pass it up!

Really tasty brunch food. Very good vegetarian options as well. Must try the polenta fondue.

The food and atmosphere was really good. I liked the brunch options available and the service was pretty tops. The beer selection was nothing to scoff at, either. Personally, I found the music selection to be pretty lame, but some people like B-side late 80s early 90s crap.

Delicious mixed cocktails in a lovely wine bar. Felt comfortable with a large young professional women's group. It was quiet and well decorated. Clean. There was also a small wine shop attached to the bar. Would visit again.

We LOVE their brunch menu, but dinner was an all around excellent experience. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive. The cheese board had a really nice variety of cheeses and accompaniments. The chicken chorizo empanada with salad was the perfect appetizer and braised short ribs were tender and delicious! Wish we had a gem like this in Akron!!

A treat for the taste buds. Every dish I've ever had here is delicious and prepared so carefully with the best ingredients to be found locally. Each ingredient is carefully chosen and the layering of textures and tastes is always perfection. Also, we are warmly greeted by our requested server, Ray. And the drinks are a work of art!

A quaint and contemporary farm-to-table brunch restaurant. Enter through the store front to a full indoors restaurant with outdoor seating to the side. Tastefully designed drinks and a unique spin on breakfast classics. Great service from the brunch staff. A full patio on a Saturday is a great sign!

The Flying Fig has phenomenal food and is another restaurant that people living in Cleveland MUST try at some point! It is amazing and often overlooked. The Flying Fig is also very reasonably priced considering the quality of the food they serve - I was very surprised the first time I ate they're, first because of how good the food is as second at how much smaller the bill was compared to what I would expect for a meal of that quality. Feel free to check it Great Lakes brewery across the street before or after the meal for a few beers that you can only get there. But make sure you hit the Fig for lunch, dinner, or their amazing brunch on Sunday!!

This restaurant is very easy to go for lunch. It is uncrowded and has a varied menu. I loved the chickpea battered vegetables and the brussel sprout special. Their club sandwich is also yummy. The caramelized onion focaccia and apple butter really make it!!

Rally great food and prices! Absolutely recommend!! We had a trout and a flatbread and it was amazing. Service is also very attentive and friendly. Coming from nyc it’s hard to surprise us, but this restaurant really did a great job with food. Inside could look a little better though. Needs some upgrades.

Went here on the recommendation of a friend who lives near the area and we were not disappointed! We cleaned every plate that was set in front of us, and discovered a new vegetable (ramps)! Seemed like there were plenty of tables but still felt very intimate. The salted honey pie and olive oil cake were both fantastic. Everything was so fresh and the best food we've had on this trip, hands down.

It's tucked away on a side street, and it feels pretty cozy inside. There's an interesting market attached to it. The food is fresh and very flavorful. Also, the wine list is superb and the servers are pretty knowledgeable on the wine list options. Great date spot!

This is a great restaurant with good food. I came here to have some food, and was seated by the host. I ordered some french fries and lemonade from the waiter, and I didn’t have to wait very long for my lemonade to come. I drank it and got a FREE refill because it tasted quite good. My french fries came shortly afterwards, so I started eating them. They tasted quite good, which I liked. After I ate my fries, I left the restaurant and continued on with my day. I gave this restaurant five stars because it had good food and provided good service.

Creative menu with local farm to table emphasis. Fresh, flavorful and well prepared. The staff was courteous, professional and just plain nice. All three of the meals for our table were fantastic. We're going back again to explore more of the menu.

By far one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. If we lived closer we would definitely go here often. Seriously fresh ingredients. And exceptional service. I had the tempura green beans and the sautéed kale (waitress suggested the kale), and fries with homemade ketchup and WOW! Such a wonderful pop of flavors. The ketchup actually tasted like tomatoes instead of corn syrup, it was phenomenal! I was hoping they sold it so I could buy some to take home! My bf had the Ohio burger and he said it was the best burger he’s ever had, and he said the meat tasted fresher than any ground beef he’s ever had! If we had discovered this place a few days earlier on our trip to Cleveland we probably would have eaten most of our meals here!

Dessert pushed this 4 star review to 5! So let's review this in reverse. Finished with 2 desserts on their special board, the spice cake and vegan salty caramel ice cream. Our waitress, who told me earlier in the evening if I didn't like the cab, she would drink it, said the same does not hold true for the vegan ice cream. But 8 had to try it, especially since I have a lactose intolerant daughter, always lining for safe alternatives. I'm here to tell you, it was excellent! Though, the spice cake was out of this world. You could have told me the icecream was made out of mother's milk and I wouldn't know the difference. For dinner, we had baked rigatoni and chicken schnitzel. The pasta was good, as was the bird, but it was really nothing more than a fried chicken sandwich. Service was fast and friendly. Limited menu, so not sure I'll be back.

Visited here for happy hour a couple Fridays ago. I would definitely visit during Happy Hour which is Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 3-6pm. They have $5 house wine and great deals on appetizers. My friend and I ordered a cheese plate as well as the chips and yogurt dip. We even split a hamburger which came with an insane amount of fries! The server was attentive and very descriptive over what we were ordering. The restaurant did fill up so I recommend going early!

Went to the market section. The sandwiches were very yummy. Get the orange dream drink! It is amazing.

Original menu, which was refreshing. Our table had the burger and corn fritters. Portion size was good, taste was very good for all dishes. Service was excellent. Pricing was a little high in my opinion. Burgers were $15, fritters were around the same. After iced teas and coffees for a table of three, the bill was $75. Overall, very good experience. Highly recommended for lunch.

Terrible restrooms, excellent food and drinks. Absolutely fantastic dining experience- until my wife and I used their restrooms, which are similar to college bar bathrooms. You would think at a place this good they would be a little more mindful of the overall experience. I would definitely return, but a little paint would go a long way. Just my opinion.

Slowest service ever. But absolutely worth the wait! Everything I ate here exceeded my expectations... The flavors, the textures, the scents and combinations thereof. Gently remind the bartender who doubles as your server that your dinner has never arrived if you need to. But don't leave. You have got to taste it. It's the most delicious thing ever....

K

The food was very good and the wine prices were very reasonable. I just wish they had not started cleaning while we were still eating. We left at 8:45 with a closing time of 9 and the entire place smelled like chemicals at that point.

I would say they have some of the best food in terms of quality and taste. I have been to Lola's and Dante, and would say this is very comparable in terms of the quality and even the execution when they bring it out to you. I had the antipasto plate and it was amazing with a large array of olives, cured meats, and some cheeses. The nice surprise were the nuts and roasted peppers; I would definitely recommend checking that out. Their drinks are strong and if you're a vodka drinker I would recommend staying away from the overrated Grey Goose and trying out Tito's vodka, its simple and tastes quite a bit smoother than any other "well known" brand. The only downside to this place is that their decorations are very modern and cool looking, but I would not say they are the most comfortable; especially when eating a meal; but other than that you are all set to have one of the best meals you can have in Cleveland.

I tried the flying fig a month after moving to the area (in 2016): I loved it!!! I went some other times and I had the feeling there were never very inspiring dishes. It was always good but there was something missing in the menu, even if I can't really explain what. It remains a very good restaurant with no doubts

Great place. Bartender is friendly and they actually mix your drinks from scratch. No premixed concoctions. Food is good and different. Only down side is that things are a little over priced for the quantity of food you get. It's never good to leave a restaurant still hungry. But it is a nice dark room and a good place to go. They have a decent sized wine list and a handful of mixed drinks.

Very good food and friendly service, but it was just missing something special for me to make it spectacular. The cocktails were very good, tasty and not strong tasting, but potent. The beef shoulder was also very well cooked, though the mashed potato puree was a bit uninspired. I enjoyed the dish throughly, but it was just good, not exceptional.

The food was great, but service was sub par. The server had ZERO personality. I sincerely hope she was just having a bad day and does not live life with that funky attitude. I agree with comments about the need for updated decor. Aesthetics are included in the dining experience, so the Flying Fig is in need of renovation. Over all I would return and hope for a better server.

I was originally impressed by the menu when I looked at it online. But, when we got to the restaurant it was a different story. The food was just okay to me. I ordered the avocado toast and biscuits with gravy. One of my miniature biscuits was burned. Literally black on the bottom. The gravy was really bland. No flavor. Nothing I saw online was on the menu. That kind of turned me off. Just okay. The service was decent.

One of the most awkward service experiences we’ve had, the least of which was the server’s poor personal hygiene. After seeing the restaurant featured in Michael Symon’s show, we were excited to try it out. After a Bloody Mary and the Sticky bun, it looked like it may live up to the expectations. Easily the best sticky bun ever. But the biscuits were literally so hard it was difficult to dig the fork into and the gravy was luke-warm. The hot cakes were pretty good though. Overall, very disappointed, but may give another shot, as it seemed like our server was the exception, not the rule.

I went here for a special occasion last night. The ambiance is nice though a little confusing. They have a cafe entrance that you enter through and I saw several people try to enter through the door for the dinning room. The service was fine though not terribly attentive. The food was well cooked but lacked considerable flavor. The prices were very high so I don’t really feel I got the experience that was payed for. The dessert was a butterscotch concoction that was completely inedible. Disgustingly sweet to the point of nausea. All in all not worth the hefty price tag.

Hostess was kind enough to tell us a time we could squeeze in without reservations for brunch. Came back at that time, got seated right away. From there, we saw 2 couples come in, order and be served before we got our food. The waitress didn't check in with us for about 30 minutes while we waited for our food, and when it came out, one dish was wrong. The food was tasty, and they took off the charge of my meal, but I don't think I'd go back again. There are plenty of other spots to check out in the area.

Normally I would give the Fig a 4.5 or 5 stars...love the patio, the food is amazing but the staff and service experience is not what it used to be. The first time I was there I called the service seamless.....it was amazing. Now? Host that seems annoyed to have to do his job, waitress devoid of personality and social graces. The staff took away from a lovely evening of great food and drink. After spending a few hundred dollars, I was not thanked or told good night. Will most likely spend that money elsewhere next time.

Odd dining experience. First, the good- the service was great. The Wednesday wine special is good too. The bad- the food is artisanal mediocre. You feel like there was a lot of effort put into it, but the product is decent, not great. I would guess the kitchen isn't terribly well managed either. We ate when the place was almost empty, and the food took forever to come out. Portions were a little small, but not absurdly so, and prices a little high for what you get ($22 hamburger). Lastly, I found it...shady.... that some of the prices at the restaurant were higher than listed on the online version of the menu.

M
Melanie Wood

I wish I had a 5 star experience like the other reviewers! I have gone twice and the service was awful. Servers acting like you should be HONORED they are even bothering to take your order. Long waits, never came back until it was time for the bill. I had pork chops for one meal and I could make them better at home and I have zero cooking skills. The other dinner was much better tasting, but overall, I'd never go back.

J
Jace LaPuma

From out of state, but had passed by here on a walk before dining in for dinner. Ordered drinks, and proceeded to watch the wait staff and bartenders talk for 20 minutes without our drinks being made or seemingly our order being taken or placed with the kitchen. It was a slow night, but there was 0 level of service whatsoever. Waiter forgot what our order was after taking it, and i ended up giving our check to a busser to pay for the meal because the waiter was sitting around talking to bar staff. The most unacceptable service I’ve ever experienced. Food was okay, but way overpriced for what it was. Would never recommend anyone dine here ever again unless things change.

W
Wes Kish

This place was a huge disappointment! I don't know if it was better before before the pandemic but it is a waste of money now. The food was bland, unseasond, overpriced and just sad. They were out of half the stuff we wanted. There were only 5 entrees on the menu and there was no one in the restaurant, so there is no excuse for being out of so much. Find a different place to go or you will regret it as well. Unless you love their olive oil cake, yuk!
