Great restaurant with a beautiful view of the Hudson. We tried the onion soup, which was excellent, and the burger was good, though not the best I’ve had. Our waitress was really friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better. The welcoming vibe and the view made it an enjoyable overall experience. I really enjoyed my time here.
One of our favorite places! A beautiful historic inn where you can eat and/or stay right on the Hudson River. The food is exceptional and Debra at the bar is a gifted mixologist. This is the best place to go after a fun day in Cold Spring!
Had an amazing experience. Debra is not a bartender but a true mixologist. Elevated our entire experience. Food was amazing service perfect.
We had thanksgiving here. Great service and food!! Views are spectacular!! Love that it's not too far a drive to come here. Will be back again in the spring!!
Nice restaurant for our Seastreak fall foliage trip. We were lucky to have restaurant week menu selection. All of our meals were delicious and food quality was very good. I had the salmon with crab meat - it was excellent. Charming inn to enjoy a nice meal in Cold Springs. They also had a very nice wine and drink selection.
Fall menu is fantastic, the apple squash soup is incredible 10/10, the short ribs and chicken with mushrooms entrees also 10/10, deserts are nice nothing amazing but nice (I like cheesecake but the pumpkin cheesecake was a bit weak). Service is great, atmosphere is really nice, right by the river with great views.
Quaint historic hotel built in 1830, amazing views, (picture is from the balcony of our room- highly recommend getting a balcony room!), wonderful and welcoming staff, very nice restaurant right on premises. Great place to stay as a home base for visiting Hudson Valley, with dedicated free parking for the hotel and a convenient walk to town. And Cold Spring is a beautiful small town with a lot of shops and restaurants yet is small and walkable. Some things about the hotel are old, so need to understand it as having the charm of a period piece not a glass and marble modern sterility.
My wife and I went there for lunch today. The atmosphere was very friendly and the food was outstanding. Lobster roll was overstuffed, the onion soup one of the best I have ever had, the Hudson burger was perfect! Thanks for a great afternoon. Will be back for sure.
Took my daughter there tonight for her birthday. The food was amazing! The salmon melted in your mouth and the sashimi was excellent. We almost ordered a second order of steamed clams. Service was wonderful as well. Food came at our pace...no rushing. Wonderful experience!
My family and I visited the restaurant this past weekend to celebrate my birthday. What a beautiful place! It’s located in a picture perfect location, place is cleaned, beautifully decorated, and the staff makes you feel like you are family! Their freshly made bread with their tomatoes and chickpeas are a great way to start a special meal. We all order different things and everything was good, specially the salmon (one of the best salmon I’ve had). Our waitress Amy was amazing and I cannot wait to go back for breakfast to taste her recommended popovers! 10/10 experience!
We didn’t stay at the inn this time, but we’re already planning to come back and book a room—the property is beautiful, right on the river, and feels like the perfect peaceful getaway. We had dinner at their restaurant, which offers scenic views of the Hudson and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. There’s a charming outdoor patio that feels like a living room, but we chose to sit inside at a white-linen table that felt bright, cozy, and a bit more formal—perfect for a relaxed but special meal. We started with the Crab Cakes and Fried Chicken Dumplings. The dumplings is ok nothing special , and couldn’t taste the lemongrass base on the describe on the menu. But the lobster bisque is so yummy 🤤 but the crab cakes came in small portions (three petite pieces), but delicious and we hoped for just a bit more. For the main, we had the stuffed cod and shrimp with crab meat—very flavorful and well cooked, but the portion of the cod itself could have been a bit more generous. On the other hand, the side dishes were plentiful and nicely balanced the plate. The wine selection was good, and the overall setting—especially the view—was truly romantic and peaceful. Just 1.5 hours from Manhattan, it’s an ideal day trip or overnight escape. Next time, we’ll definitely stay longer and enjoy the full inn experience.
This review is just for the restaurant at Hudson House River Inn, not the hotel. The setting is beautiful—right on the river with great views. It’s a really peaceful spot to sit and eat, and the space itself has strong "country club, sweater vest" energy (if that's your vibe). Clean, quiet, and a bit formal. The brunch menu looked promising, but the food was pretty underwhelming. The hollandaise sauce on the eggs tasted more like Caesar or French dressing—not what you expect. The fruit parfait martini was mostly just some fruit in a glass with barely any yogurt or granola. It didn’t look very appealing and didn’t taste like much either. The kids' pizza was fine, just very small. Service overall was good and the staff was friendly. But one weird moment: I went to the bathroom and while I was gone, my server cleared my lobster bisque—even though it was only half-eaten. Would’ve appreciated being asked first. It’s a nice spot for the views and calm atmosphere, but the food needs work, especially at those prices.
We were considering a micro wedding in the area and the opportunity of this restaurant along with the nearby bandstand was quite appealing. Having never tried the food, I celebrated a birthday dinner this weekend, small party of 4. Luckily, they were also hosting a wedding so I was able to get unexpected insight into what this could offer. The evening was very insightful, and we decided that this is not the location for us. The food was alright. Everything tasted ok, though for a nicer restaurant with the prices charged, the vegetables and sides were what I would consider banquet style; appeared simply steamed without seasoning. The filet tasted of nothing but the rosemary stem it was served next too. The 9-year-old loved it but the adult palletes found it too overbearing. I ordered an autumn margarita, perfect for a beautiful fall evening. Not only was the drink delivered with an apology from the server indicating how messy it was, but it was also basically undrinkable. The rim had been covered in straight cinnamon, all the way around, and about a full 1/2 inch down the glass. Cinnamon was also sprinkled all over the top of the drink and had a cinnamon stick floating inside. Straight up cinnamon challenge in a glass, not appealing. I decided to mention to the server the disappointment regarding the margarita and asked for something else to which they apologized, took the drink away and brought me my next choice, without further issue. To our surprise, we noticed on the walk to the car that they charged us for both beverages even though they removed the nearly untouched margarita. A hint of some essence seasonings goes a long way, here I found it was either none or way too much. As for the wedding insight, the dining room guests need to walk through the wedding area to use the restroom. On the trip to the restroom, I nearly stepped on the bride's dress, and was almost included in one of the candid photos being taken, and on the way back to my table had to excuse myself around the server offering passed hors d'oeuvres. Not quite the intimate micro wedding atmosphere we were looking for. A beautiful town and nearby views are lovely. I had much higher expectations than this experience offered.
Our room was so shabby and depressing that we checked out a day early and gladly forfeited our $259. Staff was friendly, but, amazingly, when I said the room was “depressing and crummy” the guy said, nicely, “I don’t have another room to offer” and said he had to charge us. I was glad to pay to not stay there, actually.
I never do reviews but this place needs one. We had lunch over the weekend. Food was OK. Shrimp was good. However my wife got up to use the restroom, when she came back she said it was so filthy she could not use it. She took photos and showed our waitress. Our waitress proceeded to shrug her shoulders, giggle at the photos and said "oh well, it's not my job". The rudest response ever. Employees need a lesson on team work. Nice views.
I wouldn’t normally leave a bad review, but I ordered the Cajun shrimp salad for $27 and there were only three medium to small shrimp in it with goat cheese and lettuce (the description said there were nuts as well but there were none in the salad). I felt like I got pretty ripped off and I asked the staff but they said it only comes with three shrimp. Just a warning that I wouldn’t say this place is worth the prices!
We got the Bolognese and it was too sweet and way too creamy. Then we got the harvest salad and asked for the cranberries on the side along with the vinaigrette, but that was not done. We didn’t send it back. We are easy people. On top of that, the waitress was extremely rude and very short with us. The only good thing about this place was the view.
