The food was great. Very reasonably priced. The soup dumplings and pork bao were great. The fried rice and seseme beef were excellent. The meat in everything was tender and juicy. Everything was hot and fresh. Will definitely come again.

Hands down the best Chinese food I've had in the capital region! It reminds me of the food that you'd get in Chinatown NYC. The food is authentic, not take out food like you'd get from most other places. If you get what you pay for, I'd say the value far exceeds the price when it comes to this place. I'd recommend it to anyone willing to take the trip

Very enjoyable experience every time my wife and myself are there. The staff are always a pleasure to see that our time there is enjoyable and are always patient in explaining the differences between the different aspects of the food that we are ordering. The steamed pork crab dumplings are a must.

I just had the most amazing authentic Shanghai cuisine here. I couldn't stop eating. We were a party of four plus two young children, sharing four appetizers and five entrees. If I lived in the area I would frequent this restaurant weekly. I'll definitely come back when in Albany again. Locals you have a gem!

Incredibly happy with our meal! House fried rice , sautéed green beans and the vegetable lo mien were flavorful. The noodles were so good! We added sweet and sour pork and orange chicken as our proteins and had a lovey family style meal at home. Thank you!

This is a pretty classic Shanghai restaurant differing from the authentic thing only in Hu's significantly higher quality ingredients. Expansive vegetarian & vegan menu, food is excellent, 10/10. I regularly order from here and eat-in. The soup dumplings are on-par with my favorite street cart vendor outside of the downtown Shanghai Jiao Tong campus.

Amazingly good food! I had eggplant with chicken in brown sauce. The chicken was only OK, but the eggplant was AWESOME. Best I've had in a long time! Really yummy pan fried pork buns for appetizer, and complimentary tea. Lovely little restaurant, very clean and pretty. 10/10 would come again!

Dumplings were great! (Had the pork soup dumplings, shrimp dumplings, and spicy wontons.) They were each really different so it was nice to get all three. Had the lo mein noodles and the orange pork dish. This place is authentic and service was great.

5 stars for sure. While I wouldn’t say it’s the quickest restaurant, the staff is friendly and the food quality is great. If you are looking for great soup dumplings, these are by far the best in the area. I’d suggest the pork, and didn’t think the crab and pork were good enough to justify the additional cost. All the beef dishes I’ve had are also great, the chicken ones are typically liked by those that have come with me but not something I’ve found outstanding when compared to other places. They also have some rather authentic Chinese options if you’re looking for a culinary adventure. Overall, I’d say it’s one of the better places in the area.

Great service and amazing food. Edit: Coming back 6 years after my first review to give Hu's House more stars. This has become our favorite restaurant, we live an hour and a half away and make it a point to go there whenever we're passing by Albany. The pork juicy buns are the best I've had on the east coast, the crispy shredded beef is the perfect amount of sauce and still crispy, and the Hu's fried rice is something I keep trying to copy at home but I can never get it quite as perfect.

It was my first time here. I came with family. I was celebrating my birthday, and was pleasantly surprised. It has a very simple, and bright atmosphere. The menu was quite extensive, and the service was attentive. My dinner was far above the average I have experienced from similar restaurants. The food was hot, very neatly placed an a platter in front of me. My dinner was delicious, and the dinner table was perfectly set for a great experience to come. These people know how to do customer service the right way. I am in customer service, and much can be learned and admired from their experience. I did have left overs, and they were neatly packaged with the rice in one container, and the meat and broccoli in yet another container, which I ate the next day. I have ridden past this restaurant dozens of times, but have never stopped. I will certainly return gladly for another adventure in upscale Shanghinese dinning.

We had a delicious meal here with incredibly warm service. We came with a large group so got to try over 15 dishes, and each one was flavorful and cooked perfectly - it was a wide range (dumplings, soup, fried rice, greens, seafood, chicken, dessert, etc) so whatever you are looking for, you will enjoy here!

C
Carl Lichtel

Came here with my mom and ordered 6 different dishes and all were fantastic. All the flavor profiles just seemed to work within each dish. The heat never became over bearing and everything was cooked to perfection. I will be back soon.

Me and my boyfriend live down the street from this place and we never considered trying it. Fast forward to today, there weren't alot of restaurants open so we decided to give it a try. We're so happy we did! Food was DELICIOUS, prices were fair, portions were good. My boyfriend is VERY picky and he ended up eating every drop of his food. Staff was polite and professional, will definitely return.

This is a modestly-adorned local, yet authentic Chinese restaurant. We are big fans of A La Shanghai in Latham. I would say this is just about the same but in south Colonie; from the cuisine to the small number of tables. This is not an American-style Chinese restaurant; rather, it is more authentic. Very under-rated. The service is attentive but relaxing. The dishes come out as they are prepared. During our first visit today, we had the Peking duck, cumin lamb, whole sea bass in Szechuan sauce, salt & pepper shrimp, pea shoots, soup dumplings, and pork and leek dumplings. Always get a crisp Tsing Tao beer to go with the meal. We will be going back for sure.

Wonderful meal. Try the spicy fish soup.

This place focuses on Shanghai cuisine. The menu is smaller compared to other Chinese restaurants I have visited, but they're all accompanied by photos. The food itself is very authentic. I went with a group, and we ordered two dim sum dishes, fish soup, noodles, clams, a cold beef dish, and lotus root. All of them were delicious; not too salty or oily. The clams were on par with other non-coastal restaurants. The staff were all attentive and professional. They're all Chinese, but their English is also completely intelligible. I look forward to visiting this restaurant in the future.

Possibly the best soup dumplings (xiao long bao) I've had outside of NYC or LA, rest of the food is awesome as well.

Vegan review. Oh Hu's House, I will be forever faithful. Sometimes it's really hard to get a good vegan/vegetarian meat substitute OR tofu dish at Chinese restaurants. Minced meat on everything, tofu tastes like kibble, base sauces aren't that good to begin with, etc. NOT HERE, FAM!! This is homemade vegan "sausage" and "chicken" using rolled, simmered, seasoned, and dressed tofu skins, so the mouth feel is pleasant, chewy, and really tasty in its own right. The not-sausage dish is full of juicy hot and sweet peppers in a Sichuan sauce. The General's Veg Chicken is crisp, tender, understated, delicious. The dough of the scallion pancakes is worked just enough to be dough, but not tough or overly crunchy. Vegan duck is a bit under seasoned, but the spices are delicate and the shiitake mushrooms inside are fresh and firm (hit it with some Chili Oil, bb). I'm so excited I don't have to slum it with takeout anymore. Oh glorious day!

Nothing beats ordering Hu’s menu items family style so everyone can try different things and you can enjoy all of the great dishes they have. To note, the pork soup dumplings/xiao long bao are great, the garlic string beans are incredible, the chili chicken is perfectly crispy and spicy, and honestly we haven’t had a bad thing to eat here. I recommend dining in!

I have not found, and I can't stress this enough, a single place in this entire area over the last 4 years that can actually make real soup dumplings. I don't care how to know how these guys make them in 15 - 20 minutes, but they do. They're too spec, and I call in just to pick them up for lunch while I'm out. 12/10 best place for genuine food and you can tell since they don't let the cook out of the kitchen

Authentic Chinese dishes!!! The flavor was so good on the 6 items we ordered. My Chinese wife loved the food and all our guests did too. Always enjoyable to eat on a lazy Susan table. The menu has pictures of everything so be adventurous and order something you can't find on a Buffett.

We happened to find this place when searching for gluten free Chinese food. They went out of their way to use rice flour and gluten free soy sauce. We’ve been back several times. Never disappoints!! Delicious food great service. I’m in heaven!!

Delicious food that you won't get at your typical Chinese takeout. The staff was very nice, the utensils and plates were of quality. You get a great amount of food for your money's worth. There are so many options on their menu, and they have a few big tables for a group of people to enjoy a great meal.

One of my favorite restaurants in the capital district!! Best wonton soup I’ve ever had it’s light and Smokey with thin wonton wraps. My other two favorite menus items are the spicy wontons and the soup dumplings. I will go out of my way to eat here it’s so good!

J

Excellent food at Hu’s House! Highly recommend for those of you that are looking for something beyond General Tso’s chicken. They serve Shanghainese style Chinese food with sautéed vegetables, delicious dumplings, and noodle dishes. The menu is huge. I’ve only explored a fraction of the items. My wife and I always order the spicy wontons. I highly recommend the pea shoots or the eggplant. Sometimes we do take out, but it’s so delicious when it comes straight out of the kitchen to your table.

This was delicious! I can see an adventurous eater being in their glory at this place, I am not so much adventurous. I was able to try several dishes in my comfort zone such as steamed buns, Shanghai noodles and beef scallion pancakes. It was a last minute, ravenous impulse stop and worth it. The service was attentive without being overbearing and our meals was started with fresh tea.

Jodi-Lyn Hiltunen

We ordered the steamed veg buns, sesame beef and crispy chicken with rice bowls, and for dessert we ordered the red bean buns. Cannot wait to go back! Everything was made freash to orders and tasted amazing!

The services and atmosphere is really great for a romantic dinner. The staff was very polite and well dressed. The food was excellent. We ordered many appetizers and they all exceeded expectations. The pork buns and the crab+pork buns had delicious and flavorful soup in them. The scallion pancakes were fresh and crispy. The spring rolls were crispy on the outside with good flavor in the filling. The only downside is that I only have one stomach and was not able to try the whole menu because everything looked great. I will be returning with friends.

My son has been trying to get me here for months and he was right. The staff were very accommodating for newbies, answered all of my questions and made suggestions. Starting from the tea to appetizers to entrees the food was the best Chinese we have ever had! I would very highly recommend. The owner stopped at our table to ensure everything was satisfactory. It appears they are updating the window dressings and linens. On1e suggestion would be to get rid of the fish tank by the door ... Not a good a first impression. I would highly recommend to anyone interested in authentic Chinese food.

I used to love food at A la Shanghai until their food changed a few years ago. And recently just learned that the chef there opened this place. Checked them out and yes! The original flavors! Too bad the location is a bit out of the way for us but that won't stop us!

Flight got canceled and was stuck staying by the airport overnight. Soup dumplings are one of my favorite meals so decided to give this place a try. I have never been so happy about a cancellation in my life. The family loved it and now we have a go to spot to hit up when we head to the lake.

Legit, authentic Chinese food. Friendly folks working there. Just moved here after many years in China and it felt so good to have real Chinese food again and speak Chinese outside the house. Lots of veggie options, too. Highly recommended!

Very nice sit down, authentic Chinese food. The fried pork dumplings were the best I've had. The staff was very friendly, and accommodating for two large groups (that were being served at the same time). I will go again when visiting the area. The dinner I had was the fried squid with brown sauce. The flower was made from a beet slice, very neat touch!

Wonderful First Experience! Tonight, we tried this place for the first time, and I was pleasantly surprised. Not only did the atmosphere captivate me, but the complimentary tea, appetizers, and my meal were absolutely delicious. I had been staying in Colonie for the week after traveling from Pennsylvania to work in the pine bush and decided to walk to Hu’s House for dinner one night. It was the highlight of my trip! The food was delicious and the staff were very nice, and the complimentary tea was a nice bonus. This was my first time ever eating at a Shanghainese restaurant and it did not disappoint. If I ever come back to work in Albany again I will eagerly return, hungry for more :)

We love everything at Hu’s. Today we had wonton soup, hot and sour soup, soup dumplings and chicken with cashews over rice. Everything was delicious and fresh. I have long looked for a good Shanghainese restaurant in upstate NY. I was accustomed to exceptional food when I lived in Brooklyn and frequented Mott street. I have been wanting to try Hu’s House for a while and glad I finally did. Tonight I ordered takeout, and I got the beef, scallion, pancakes, soupy, steamed pork juicy bun, & Yang Zhou fried rice. If you asked me if this is the best I’ve ever had, I say no, but…this is the best I’ve had in upstate NY. I can’t wait to try other dishes to see if they are just as good and don’t have to “eat” my words 🤣

Authentic Shanghainese cuisine! Our meal was excellent! We started off with hot and sour soup, family style. It was a great balance of flavors and ingredients! Spicy wontons came with 10 pieces, drenched in spicy chilli sauce!!! They were soooo good! Pork soup dumplings were delicious. The wrappers were thin and chewy! None of them broke as we picked them up from the steamer! First bite into it, the soup was bursting out and temperature hot! Vegetarian duck - tofu skin wrapped with mushrooms and carrots and maybe bamboo shoots! They were served cold! Delicious appetizer!! Fish fillet with sweet and sour sauce, crispy exterior layers and nice flaky fish texture! We loved it! sautéed pea shoots with garlic was really fresh and delicious! Chicken and chestnut stews- portion was small but the sauce was yummy! Overall this dish was just ok! Salted egg yolk shrimps were excellent! Totally recommended! Stir fry Rice cake with mustard greens was sooo good! I Didn't even get to take a pic! But we cleaned the plate!!! The texture of the rice cake was perfect! Chewy like mochi and it soaked up all the flavor from the sauce! Overall, the servers were friendly and helpful! The restaurant was a little run down but the round table seatings were somewhat comfortable!

Underrated in my opinion. As soon as I saw the menu I knew I was in the right place. Menu format and offerings gave me flashbacks from eating in various places throughout Asia. The food was absolutely excellent. I would love to come here again and try more of the menu out.

This was our first visit and it certainly will not be our last. We had a fantastic dinner overall. We ordered Pan friend pork dumplings, fried whole sea bass, beef with green beans, and Shanghai lei mein. The green beans were perfectly crisp tender with velvety beef slices. We were warned the dumplings would take 15 minutes and asked if we wanted them first or later. We didn't care about the order. That just tells us how fresh they are made. They were so crispy on the outside and filled with juicy pork. The dipping sauce was delicious with a bit of a peppery bite to it. The noodles have such a great chew to it. Not too thick of a noodle and perfectly al dente. When they put it in the table we immediately got a good whiff of garlic 🤤 Now, the sea bass... Super delicious! Sure I will get a few bones from trying to scrape off the flesh from the skeleton, but it was manageable. $30 for a whole fish and it was excellent. We focused on eating all of the fish since that is the least desirable for leftovers. It looks unassuming from the outside and you've probably driven by a million times. This place is definitely worth a try !

A great place in Albany. I was very satisfied with their food and service. It looked like a family run restaurant and a kid was helping his dad set up table and thats when you know the food is gonna hit different. My favourite was the crispy beef, it was probably the best crispy beef i’ve had. The portions are big and I was unable to finish my dish. The food didn’t take much long after ordering. The place is clean and their service is brilliant. If I return to Albany i am surely returning to Hu’s House to try other items on the menu.

I love Hu's House. This is my go to for Asian food because everything is so authentic and delicious. I get the wonton soup and steamed pork dumplings every time. There is so much flavor in both of these dishes and they are great appetizers. For the main dish I get the chicken Lao Mian noodles as my entree which is delicious!! I have eaten here many many times and have never been disappointed. The prices are great for the big portions you are given. Definitely one of the best places to eat in the capital region!!

Ambience : Excellent Food : Good and tasty, unless you are not into Shanghai cuisine. It's pretty authentic and not Americanized. Space : Spacious, doesn't feel crowded. Service : Good , courteous, relatively fast for a sit down restaurant We went from work and liked it. Not recommended when you are in a hurry.

To be honest, kind of hit and miss. The flounder wrapped in bean curd skin was absolutely incredible- fresh, well seasoned, super crispy. A couple of other dishes were pretty good (rice cakes with shepherd’s purse) and others were just okay (pork with tofu knots). Not a bad meal, but there are better Chinese restaurants in the Albany area

Mapo tofu and shrimp with honey walnuts are top notch. Spicy wontons are super cravable. Staff is sweet and attentive. I tried the soup dumplings and didn’t love them (skin was too thick for me) but will definitely be back because everything else was great.

I'll revisit this review after trying them again later. The food is great, and if you like Ala Shanghai you should be happy here. But on our visit, it did take a long time to get our order, and one dish did come kinda cold for some reason. But give them a chance, because they're just starting and likely will get better.

We were one of two tables upon arriving for lunch. As lunch progressed every table filled. While their service was on the slow side, the menu photos are well done and most helpful. We enjoyed the hot and sour soup, various pork dumplings, spicy tofu, sea scallops, eggplant and noodle dishes. Sharing dishes is recommended. Hu's is awaiting their liquor license. It's at 1619 Central Ave, the former Empress Diner, and has ample parking.

We enjoyed our first time visiting. Comfortable and warmly inviting family run restaurant featuring many varied authentic Shanghai style dishes. Our dishes were very well prepared and did not skimp on portions, all at a reasonable price. This is not your American style take-out restaurant with seating. We will be back to share with friends.

L
Laura Putnam

My husband and I stumbled upon this hidden gem on our most recent date night. The food was outstanding and our server was extremely attentive. We had pork soup Dumplings, Spicy wonton soup, pan fried pork buns, spring rolls, vegetarian duck (only thing I didn't love), chicken with baby bok-choy with added mushrooms and Shanghai fried rice. The atmosphere is extremely basic but the food more than made up for it.

m

As for the food, some are excellent, some are okay. The prices are very expensive.

R
Randy Czarnetzki

Other reviewers have called this place a "sleeper" and I agree. The lack of signage and few outdoor lights hides a great spot. The interior is clean and the wait staff is helpful and knowledgeable. The crusty aquarium by the entrance is my only complaint. The food options are very broad and much more authentic than the typical "Americanized" asian food restaurant. Heads up! All portions are capable of 2-3 servings (even the soup). Consider sharing plates and DO NOT over order, unless you are willing to pack up extra to take home.

C

Went there for birthday dinner. Wanted something different. Wasn't disappointed. The spicy wonton app was so good almost ordered another for dinner. The snow flake beef was outstanding. Had a bit of a vinegar background that really enhanced the dish. I enjoyed hot wok bullfrog. If you like spicy frog legs this is it. Plenty of food that all 4 of us shared. No atmosphere, service a bit slow. The bar area was a bit messy. However the food made up for it all. I will eat there again maybe for the sea cucumber. Enjoy. Very extensive menu. Choices galore.

I check out Hu’s House’s menu online and when I saw tripe and intestines and jellyfish I was in! When I see all the “parts” on a Chinese food menu I know they’re not catering to the non-authentic diners. And I’ve been wanting to try jellyfish for a while now. Hu’s specializes in Shanghainese cuisine. But the menu is, honesty, ENORMOUS. Page after page after page. Something for everyone, IMO. You can eat vegetarian or vegan if you prefer. I do have to mention the atmosphere/physical setting because we restaurant folk DO need to make an effort and I felt a distinct “lack of effort” when I entered. To whit: there are 2 fish tanks in the restaurant. One right at the door as you enter and one beside the bar. Both contain just a few inches of dirty water and dangling fishtanks heaters. They’re giving “abandoned.” Also just, basically gross in a dining space. I mean fine, have fish tanks or don’t. And it you’ve gone over to “don’t” you need to empty those babies out and get rid of them. They do not belong inside a restaurant in their current state. The second thing is the bar itself. They’re clearly not using it/sitting it and have the entire surface covered with piles of napkins or paperwork or just “work stuff.” Also not a good look. Again, if you won’t want to seat your bar, then don’t. But clear it off, don’t have piles of random stuff all over the place. Put in the effort to tidy your spot up. I was there mid/late afternoon, so it was quiet with one person handling the front. Unfortunately I had completely lost my voice and do nothing but whisper to communicate. But the ginormous menu also has pictures of every dish. So I was able to point! I have to give my waiter snap for refusing to let me order the spicy Szechuan Fish Stew because he said it was too spicy for my already struggling throat situation. I’m pretty sure he was right. He also felt duty bound to tell me he thought I had ordered “more than enough” food. Again, he was right. But I wasn’t trying to finish everything. Just try everything. And he was down with that. LOL I started with: Cold Cucumber with Garlic - DELICIOUS, fresh, I feel like garlic is particularly important when you’re sick!; Steamed Shrimp Dumplings - served in the stacked, bamboo steaming baskets with delicious dipping sauce, excellent; Steamed Vegetable Buns - REALLY GOOD. I never had anything like this before. Basically a dumpling made with the same dough you’d use for steamed buns. They were filled with spinach and mushrooms. Very good in the dipping sauce; Jellyfish with Soy Sauce - Pro Tip: Jellyfish turns out to be pretty challenging to eat. It’s cut into really, really long strips. Like noodles. Only they’re not as easy to bite into pieces as noodles. So you wind up hanging over your plate with a mouthful of jellyfish strips trying to chew off the part that is hanging out of your mouth. I mean it was pretty good. But that was kind of too much effort for me!; Vegetarian Duck. Yes, Vegetarian Duck. I was like, “I have no idea what that could be. I must have it!” I have no idea why it’s called Duck. But it’s really good. It is baked/cooked Tofu skin layered with a mushroom filling. Think something like lasagne only with extremely thin Tofu instead of pasta sheets and a chopped mushroom filling. I was CHALLENGED by the Jellyfish and the Vegetarian Duck. And the challenge was entirely me trying to get the food into my mouth… Then, after my waiter told me I was NOT up to Szechuan Fish Soup I ordered Singapore Noodles and Vegetarian General Tso’s Chicken. Sinapore Noodles are very thin vermicelli stir fried with onions, peppers, egg, shrimp, chicken and ham and PLENTY of curry. I requested no chicken or ham and so got Singapore Noodles with only shrimp. They were delicious. Plenty of curry. I think next time I might request it a little spicy… The Vegetarian Chicken was actually big chunks of fried tofu tossed in the General Tso’s sauce. DELICIOUS. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Perfect comfort food for someone who doesn’t eat beef, pork or poultry but loves the General Tso’s flavors…

Went in on a slow Saturday night. There was only one person running the front of the house. There were four tables of guests. It took an hour to get my entrée and the soup was so hot I couldn’t eat it for another 20 minutes without burning my mouth. The food was good, but the service not so much. Also, every AC vent was dripping water on the floor and leaving puddles no one cleaned up.

We went during dinner time, the place was t too busy and has a traditional Chinese restaurant setting. The server brought ice water and we requested for water with no ice, they never came. We (2 adults and a kid) ordered soup dumpling, one veggie and 2 different kind of noodles. Soup dumplings were ok, would prefer the soup to be more flavorful and the skin to be thinner. The stir fry veggie was excellent. One of the noodles was way too salty that we had to send it back. I then ask for water and he only brought one glass. Will we go back? Not in the near future.

In my opinion, marginal Americanized Chinese food. May have been what I ordered. The Soup Dumplings were solid. The Spicy Wontons were not spicy and were peanut flavored (which I do not care for). Others have enjoyed them, but to me, they were too strong peanut flavored. The spicy beef was not spicy and seemed dry like it was not fresh. It was literally just beef with a few small slices of green onion for garnish. The pic made it look as though there were at least a few onions involved. The Fried rice was standard (good but nothing special). It is a pet peeve of mine when an Americanized Chinese place forces you to buy a $10 dish to get fried rice instead of offering a side dish. Potion sizes were good.

My first time ordering from here. I got the sweet and sour ribs. No sweet, no sour, just all 5 spice. Not what I was expecting. I mean, the 5 spice isn't unusual, it's just so prominent, it should be called Five Spice Ribs. The picture of them in the menu looked fresh and bright. I got gray-brown, mushy bunch of ribs. Looked nothing like the picture. Meh. Won't get them again. I got the garlic chicken. That's usually really good at most any Chinese restaurant, but not at this one. There was no garlic flavor at all. I added my own. Disappointing. I also got the hot and sour soup. That was actually really good. Good flavor, lots of veggies. Best one I've had in a while, and the reason I gave 3 stars. I'd definitely order the soup again. I'll give this place a second chance.

Went on a Friday night, it was just me and my boyfriend. The soup and dumplings that we started with were absolutely delicious! Then our entrees came and they were disappointing. I got the chicken with garlic sauce which I thought was supposed to be spicy but was overall flavorless. Maybe I had to ask for it spicy. I’m not sure. My boyfriend got the seafood noodles and same thing, just very bland. The lady working the front was very nice but the service was terribly slow, they were clearly understaffed and it took us a long time to get out after we were done eating. Overall probably wouldn’t dine in again but would consider trying the food once more, since our soup was very good! The star of the show.

The soup dumplings were good!! The owners and waiters were very very nice. We ordered the ribs and soup dumpling for appetizer, for the main dish we had beef and broccoli and garlic ribs And the yang zhou fried rice. None of the meats came with rice. The appetizer was cold, the broccoli was bitter and the meat was very chewy the rice was okay. I would return for the soup dumplings.

Very authentic feel and flavors. Their soup dumplings are expertly made and served. We've gotten take-out a few times and generally have had okay experience, but have noticed very grisly/borderline inedible cuts of meat. Two out of three meat-based dishes today used very poor quality meat (a few bites were on the verge of going rancid) and were swimming in grease (fair enough; flavors were good, if missing a little bit of "pan fire"). Service was also friendly but generally inattentive, and it appears that their primary business is from takeout. We recommend eat-in only for dim sum. The soup dumplings are as good as the best found in NYC and nothing nearby comes close. We will try the other small side dishes next time, but will likely never order the meat entrees again.

Ordered delivery… Hot and Sour Soup 10.99 no crispy noodles were delivered. The soup was fine but lasted mostly of toasted sesame oil and wasn’t hot or sour. General Taos Chicken 16.99 no rice and chicken was bland. Lo mein 13.99 bland. Shanghai Fried Rice 13.99 best of the bland items. Sprite x 4 7.96 $63.92 for the price and what was delivered it was very disappointing. I was very excited to try this place based on the reviews, but I won’t be trying it again.

The entrance doors are FILTHY, I mean dirty. The first thing you see when inside is an old mostly empty dirty fishtank. The host was pleasant. I was getting takeout and the wait was quick. The vegetable LoMein was inedible. Giant squishy noodles with the blandest brown sauce I have ever had. It was loaded with cabbage. Spring rolls were a mouthful of goop, not sure if it was oil or seriously under cooked. The fried rice was the only edible item. So essentially it cost me $27.00 for a quart of just this side of edible fried rice. I will not be shocked if they close down or are closed down. What a shame.

No rice with entrees, no soy or mustard or fortune cookies, the dry chili chicken was inedible. More salt than chicken. The scallion pancakes were lacking scallion. 60 bones wasted maybe I should have ordered the bullfrog. The wait person was nice!

Mismatch of food and menu images. ‘Menu images were taken from internet’, claimed the owner. Also several meat dishes were not freshly made. Most likely pre-made then deep fried.

I don't know how this place has 4.4 because it's not great. They do not have anything to drink but water and hot tea. The sesame chicken was disgusting and was nit eaten they didn't take it off the bill only thing that was ok was the sweet and sour chicken.

We have had many delicious meals here but lately, they have slipped. We eat there frequently and on a visit two weeks ago, the Lo Mein wasn't cooked enough and hard to eat; the fried rice was green and did not have the texture of fried rice at all. It was mushy and tasteless. On our most recent visit, everything we ordered was imbued with too much spice and heat - even Lo Mein, which isn't supposed to be spicy! I ordered a dish I get all the time that is billed as spicy but I could barely eat it. I had to recover after each bite. And I spilled a little on my chin and it STUNG for hours afterward. We told the owner and he seemed not to care. The service, which is normally courteous and friendly was slow and apathetic - and we were the only ones there. We waited interminable amounts of time before we were checked on. Because they were checked OUT. I hope this place improves. It was once a favorite, but we're on pause for the time being.

Fish and beef are both not fresh; tea is not warm enough. When I mentioned to the waitress, she didn’t say anything which showed me she knew the food is not fresh.

Hate to give this one star rating - but this is really not among my favorite experience dining outside. Bamboo shoot soup has not much bamboo it and is not tasty at all. It looks different from the picture and the manager said the picture was taken from the website - super fake. The service is reasonable but is not enough to offset the horrible food. There are plenty of nice Americanized Chinese restaurants, but this is not even one of them. If you ever want to keep your sanity, don’t go.

$45 dollars worth of food may I bring it back for you guys to change my mind. I am a cook, I know the chicken is not edible and the juicy crab dumplings were "dry". I purchased these to feed my kids. Will the chef feed this to his kids?

I walked in with the expectation that the restaurant I’ve delivered food for countless times would be worth going, but boy was I wrong. Here’s how the story goes, we arrived at Hu’s house at 4:45 and immediately upon entering the establishment we were greeted by a friendly waitress who was the only kind and warm person in this restaurant. She did her job and took our orders and gave us our iced tea. The sole appetizer we ordered was pan fried pork buns. As we waited for our order other parties came in and were seated. After they ordered their appetizers we ordered our main dishes, lo mein and beef style soup with vermicilli noodles. We remained waiting for our appetizer, playing games to pass the time, while the party that came after us were served scallion pancakes, salad, and green beans. Nobody likes to wait, but we remained patient. By the time our pan fried buns came, it was 5:15. I said hello to the guy bringing out the dishes and he ignored us as he put down the food. At first glance I noticed a long, gray hair centered right at the pinnacle of the bun’s stem. I called the waitress immediately, and she grabbed the hair and brought it out back. My girl and I had no interest in eating there anymore, and motioned to our apologetic waitress that we were leaving. However, as we walk out the building a lady, whom we never spoke to before shoves a $38 bill in my face and demands that I pay for meals that I ordered but never received. I told her I had a hair and she didn’t listen and insisted she removed the buns from the bill. Our server had to vouch for us and explain we never ate a thing, and the only thing I’m liable for was iced tea. I pull out a crisp five dollar bill for her to take, and she returned it to me with disdain and said “Go.” I wouldn’t have said a thing if it wasn’t for this encounter with that lady. I refuse to eat hair, because that makes me wonder what the sanitary conditions look like in the kitchen. Shame on you Hu, you don’t deserve the 4.5 stars on your restaurant. I would attach pictures but the restaurant was ordinary, and there wasn’t any food for me to snap.

Recently had a bad experience here. I don't know what it is, many people have been sharing great things about Hu's and I was excited to enjoy the meal here, but it feels like the type of service you get are with certain people. Personally, I felt like I wasn't welcome there.

$25- for 2 wonton soups the worst soup I’ve ever eaten in my entire life so greasy, you couldn’t even eat it! The wontons were mushy and had absolutely no taste at all! We will never order anything from there again! went to Fu Sing’s Best 1 ton soup ever and we would’ve gotten four soups for the price of two at Hu House!!!

All is great but I was still shocked by how much oil they put in steamed fish😱 it doesn’t make even a tiny sense why they love adding that much oil to their steamed dishes??????? I wonder why, and I want to know why😱😱 I am a Chinese, and now I am totally disappointed about Chinese food in this area. Why adding heavy oil could even happen to steamed dishes???? And also, there IS NO WATER in this place???????? NO WATER For their salty dishes😱😱😱😱 my experience there was like a HELL
