I like this place! The staff is nice and it is often quiet in house. The food tastes like homemade recipes, it's delicious and heartwarming. It would be great takeout. They have an expansive menu. I love the spices they use and next time I should order my food hot instead of medium for a little extra kick!
We had an amazing experience at Thali of India! The Reshmi kebab was tender and perfectly spiced, and we loved that it didn't have any yogurt (a pleasant surprise!). Despite them being about to close, they welcomed us in and provided super-fast service. Highly recommend!
I recently visited this restaurant and had a wonderful time. We ordered naan basket, ( SO FRESH) 2 entrees and an appetizer. There was something so homey and comforting about the quiet evening we had in this restaurant. The food came out quickly and was absolutely delicious. We were also given a Devine chutney to go with our food. We asked to bring some home it was so yummy. The service was excellent, very nice and attentive people. Thank you Thai of India!!!! You’ll be seeing a lot more of us. :)
I am very happy we picked Thali of India tonight! We rarely get to eat out, but when we do it’s Indian, and this was the best/one of the best I’ve had! We just moved to the “area” near Keuka lake and drove half an hour to eat, so we were extremely relieved to be pleased with our choice. The lighting and carpet made it cozy. Our food tasted perfectly balanced and flavorful, not overpowering like some places where it’s the same one spice or sweetness throughout or just heat. Here each bite contained pleasure, spices, or texture, that were both interesting and satisfying. We enjoyed paneer pakora appetizers, a delicious cilantro dipping sauce, lamb and chicken main dishes, and mango shakes. Toddler even said I LIKE this food! Water tasted refreshing like filtered water in a sparkling glass. The portions were just right, and the service was fast and polite, with a calm friendliness. In the end we noticed the bill was slightly more affordable than many other places in the inflated world, so Thankful for that. After, a walk around the block brought us to a peaceful city park. On a side note, having had such a good time, I’m shocked at some of the low reviews I just saw online, curious if there’s competitors or paid scammers that post those types, maybe? No one can be perfect, I did not look as close to be rudely inspecting, although I did notice one of the sauce bottles looked used on top, and one fruit fly appeared near the mango drink(can one have mango In a house without this? I’d love a trick), however I just cannot see how it could be as some of those reviewers described. So anyways I’m extremely thankful, especially when we’re kindly and quickly served food I didn’t have to collect and cook well, in a cozy room I didn’t have to build or clean and was not overcharged.. I’m putting this on my list of restaurants to regular!
We had lunch at Thali of India in Corning NY on a Sunday for lunch and were the first coustomers of the day. Parking is limited on the street in front of the restaurant although a nice sized public parking lot can be found behind the buildings on Main street and on weekends its free to park. This parking lot also offers handicap parking. Greater was prompt upon arrival. When placing order server asked if we liked food spicy in which she placed food order to preference regarding spice. Server was friendly kind and explained menu choices. Beverage of choice was a chia hot tea and was delicious with the right amount of spice along with its creamy deliciousness. I highly reccomend the Nana garlic bread which was enough for two people to share. The bread was warm with the right amount of garlic seasoning and melted in my mouth. The lenti soup is a must and left me wanting more. Entree of choice was the chicken curry which is a blend of tender cooked chicken tomatoe based sauce cooked with garlic and sauces and went well with the garlic nann bread used to soak up the sauce. Thank you Thali of India for a scrumptious lunch as well as a relaxing dining experience.
The food is good. I have my doubts about those saying it is not authentic. I don't believe it. The. Food is good and you can get your customized level of heat which I like. I like hot some in my party don't. The atmosphere could be improved, it's old, and not to pleasing. P in
Had dinner at this great family run restaurant. As someone who has traveled the world and loves international food, I found the food was authentic, flavorful, served hot and quick. Service was polite and friendly. Samosas, Chicken, and Aloogobi were awesome. If you're looking for a authentic family run Indian restaurant, look no further.
I have lived in Corning for 2 years and passed by this restaurant many times thinking I must try it. I now regret that I did not try it sooner because it's a pleasure. The people who work there are personable and attentive, the atmosphere is pleasant, and the food.....oh my gosh! The food is so well prepared and seasoned perfectly. It's hot and tastes very fresh. I will definitely be a regular customer and recommend that you give Thalia of India a try.
The staff was very friendly, and the food was delicious. Portions were on the smaller side, so the price felt reasonable, except for $3 for a single roasted papad, which seemed a bit too much. We noticed some guests mentioned the food was too spicy, so we ordered medium spicy. It was definitely on the hotter side for “medium,” but we enjoyed it since we like spicy food. If you prefer mild flavors, I’d suggest asking for less than medium spice levels. The restaurant itself is quite old and they seriously need to pay more attention to cleanliness. If you are very particular about cleanliness, check out the pictures in the reviews before going.
Had a below average and very overwhelming experience at this place. It was a very busy Saturday night and hopefully this is a one off experience and is better when less crowded. We basically had to fend a table and chairs for ourselves, remind the staff to clean it for us (and the cleaning didn't help). And we were given a notepad to write our own orders down because they were so short staffed. Food was oily and not great tasting. We ordered the dal tadka, paneer kadai and bread basket. It was average at best. The atmosphere was suffocating given the number of people and even more just standing around our table waiting for us to leave so they can sit. And the groups that were there were very loud, so loud that we could hear them in our car parked across the street! This place definitely seem to have a lot of demand since it was busy, but our experience was not good given the crowd, cleanliness and staff shortage.
The person who took my order was super nice and friendly, but honestly, this was one of the worst Indian meals I’ve had. The samosas tasted old: like they were either undercooked or just reheated in the microwave samosas that were sitting out for extended period of time, Definitely they are not fresh. The biryani was a total disaster too, the rice was mushy, and it felt like they just mixed plain white rice with chicken curry. I’ve had biryani plenty of times before, but I’ve never seen random bell pepper pieces thrown in like that. And Garlic was undercooked on one side. I even asked for spoons and forks, but they forgot to include them. Overall, friendly staff but really disappointing food. I won’t be going back.
Not Authentic - Very Disappointing Experience! I visited Thali of India, in Coring expecting authentic Indian cuisine, but it was a major letdown. As someone from India, it was immediately clear that the establishment is not run by people of Indian descent, despite their marketing. They looked and sounded Bangladeshi. When I asked the staff where they were from, the answer felt dishonest. The lady behind the counter said that she was from Amritsar which I could tell right away that she was lying. I ordered the Paneer Tikka Sizzler to test the Indian Punjabi authenticity, and it was a disaster…completely lacking the proper flavors and techniques. The decor and ambience were equally unimpressive. Very depressing and completely lacking Indian culture. I usually stop in Corning during my trips to Canada to try new spots, but I won’t be returning here again. My suggestion, if you’re looking for genuine Indian cuisine, avoid this place. Don’t be fooled by the name. This is not an authentic Indian restaurant.
After a long and tiring drive, we chose "Thali of India", the only Indian restaurant in Corning, NY hoping for a satisfying meal. Unfortunately, the experience was profoundly disappointing, and I feel the restaurant's name, "Thali of India," is misleading. Based on our visit, I seriously question their connection to India, authentic Indian cuisine and standards. Inauthentic Food & Stale Ingredients: We ordered Butter Chicken, Garlic Naan, Butter Roti, and, for a starter, Chicken Reshmi Kabab. Order Mix-Up and Quality: The starter we received was Chicken Seekh Kabab. When I brought this to the attention of the staff, I was met with an appalling response. Arrogant Service: The lady in the black dress arrogantly insisted that Chicken Seekh Kabab and Chicken Malai Kabab/Reshmi Kabab are the same dish. I offered to show her photographic proof on Google that they are distinct, but she dismissed me, stating, "In their restaurant, it's the same, and they are running this restaurant for 25 years" (a joke). Her unwillingness to acknowledge a clear error and lack of basic culinary knowledge was shocking. Stale Food: Beyond the wrong dish, the chicken itself tasted stale. The butter roti was also of poor quality. The food was so unsatisfactory that we were forced to leave a significant portion of our meal unfinished. Deceptive Practices & Low Standards The restaurant's low standards extend beyond the kitchen: Hygiene Items: Just as the name "Thali of India" feels deceptive, so did the toiletries. The soap and hand sanitizer were kept in branded bottles, but the contents were clearly the absolute cheapest, low-grade substitutes. This deceptive practice across their operations is unacceptable. Conclusion: Avoid this restaurant BEWARE: Save your money and protect your health by choosing another dining option. This restaurant is simply not worth the visit. The combination of subpar, potentially stale food, misleading name, and arrogant service makes this an experience to be avoided.
Zero star! Worst indian food I’ve ever had. Definitely not cooked by an Indian! $75 dinner thrown in trash. We thought of trying the food based on some of the four and five star ratings but now fully agree with the ones with one star ratings. Not sure if the ones rating it high quality happen to visit on a day an Indian chef cooked but this food was worse than a kid mixing raw ingredients.
Very disappointing experience. We had to ask for everything like water, glasses, plates, tissues, even spoons. Water came in bottles (not complimentary) and we were given plastic cups, while other tables got proper glassware without asking. Service felt unequal and I noticed that some tables were deliberately ignored including ours while others received polite, attentive service. It was uncomfortable and felt unfair. The food was no better: stale pakoras which were refried, burnt paneer tikka, dirty plates and utensils. One staff member even coughed near our food, which was concerning. Portions were small for the price, and the bill was handwritten, which seemed unprofessional. Between the poor service, hygiene issues, and inconsistent treatment, this was one of my worst dining experiences. I wouldn’t recommend this place.
Well one of the bad restaurants we have visited . First of all the ambiance is not good , the restaurant needs a renovation. After entering , we got a feeling not to order anything and just leave , but as we already used the restrooms , we thought of ordering chai and samosa . Second thing no dress for waiters , looks like it was being run by a family , it was not clean . Simple as that. Chai was cold , i just left it . Samosa was fine.
Don’t go by the looks of the place from outside. One of the unhygienic and dirty place to have your food. The floor carpet, the dishes, table/chairs, restroom and can image kitchen after seeing. The presentation of the food server was also bad. Regarding the food - the samosa were frozen and just heated to make it appear (not freshly baked). They don’t know what is masala papad (I asked before placing order) but for them it is cummins/mari is masala. The main course was average no where near true north Indian curry and the roti and naan were pretty much same. Overall I will not recommend this place.
