Everything about this place is incredible. From the cozy atmosphere to the unmatched service and high quality ingredients, you just cannot go wrong. You start off with what I'd consider to be the best bread I have ever tasted. "How can you possibly improve from here?" You ask yourself. But they do. The creamed spinach, the creamed corn, the Yorkshire pudding, the mashed potatoes and gravy, the perfectly cooked, tender, juiciest prime rib you'll ever encounter, the otherworldly banana pudding. Brought to you by true professionals in hospitality. I could keep going, but I'm getting hungry. Go here. Now. Bring your friends.
Always drove by it. Always heard it. After decades of wondering, I finally went. The food was amazing! The service was impeccable. I highly suggest making reservations way ahead of time online. Highly recommend!
Had a very pleasant late dinner. The service was exceptional and the decor and theme are well done. Enjoyed the surf and turf special and started off with a wonderful cheese plate. Reservations recommended if eating there earlier in the evening and they have a big parking lot.
Enjoyed Christmas Eve dinner with family. Food and drinks were excellent and the in-house Xmas carolers were taking requests and excelled in their delivery! Although Valet service was available, we all used an Uber for convenience.
We arrived before our reservation time so stepped n2 SideDoor (located in same entrance westside) and had a coctail - smoked old fashioned & Long Island ) Five Crowns' English country inn atmosphere is charming-wood floors, fireplace paned windows. Restaurant valet parking ($10.)next door made it easy. Dress causal business or nicer makes it a perfect date location. Ordered my prime rib rare, and it was delivered medium ;(. But my friendly & attentive server quickly remedied the error. Yummy!!!
Food, service, and ambiance were top notch, especially during the holidays when they have their decorations up and their carolers. Valet parking is available but we were able to find street parking. Food/Drink- 5 stars Oysters- these were an alright start. But everything else gets much better Continental Louie cocktail- this was divine and my favorite dish of the night. The huge chunks of crab and lobster were so juicy and perfectly seasoned. I highly recommend this Pride of the Crowns salad- the salad was superb. So much buttery goodness with the toppings and mixed perfectly Lobster bisque- really hearty with plenty of lobster flavor. Really enjoyed it English rib chop- we ordered this with the Neptune upgrade. It was good, but I would just stick with their specialties of prime rib for the entree Prime rib- tried the Tokyo and Crown cuts. I really enjoyed the Tokyo cut as the thinly cut prime rib was so tender and sucked up all the au jus flavor Desserts- we tried the English trifle, banana cream pie, and CC Brown's Hot Fudge Sundae. The banana cream pie was easily the favorite, but everything was delicious Service- 5 stars Our server, Daniel, was fantastic throughout. The whole staff were so attentative and made sure we had a fantastic experience Ambiance- 5 stars The English inn vibe was great and loved the decor throughout the restaurant. It's a great spot to be during the holidays with their decorations and holiday carolers Bottom Line Fantastic steakhouse with excellent food, service, and ambiance
My wife and I went to Five Crowns to celebrate early Christmas in Newport Beach, and our experience was remarkable and outstanding! Our waiter Mario was so exceptional that he literally created a magical and captivating dining experience for us. Mario's knowledge of the menu, his dedication to excellence and his gentlemanly manner and unique sense of humor was impressive. The food was equally impressive. The Caesar salad was old school remarkable, the lobster bisque was right out of a New England chowder shop, the prime rib was tender, juicy and cooked perfectly, the creamed corn, creamed spinach and mashed potatoes and gravy could not be more delectable. Even the bread, butter and salt service was excellent. And to top it all off, the hot fudge sundae was to die for!! The Christmas decorations, roaring fireplace and the roaming Christmas carolers put a charming and nostalgic touch to our wonderful dining experience. Thank you Five Crowns and especially Mario for making our Christmas dinner an exceptional and unforgettable memory.
I went to the restaurant to celebrate my birthday this month on the 3rd, and I could not have chosen a most amazing place. The setting was beautifully decorated for Christmas and they even had Carolers for the guests. Our server was Will, and he was absolutely outstanding! He made our whole experience there! He was attentive to our needs, knowledgeable, and very friendly and kind. He went above and beyond! He even helped us get all our pics, even outside in front of the restaurant. Our experience was incredible, the food (we all had the prime rib and it was superb!) the ambience, the comfort, the service, everything! This place went beyond our expectations. We are definitely coming back and telling our friends as well. Simply marvelous and divine! Excellent job Will! Merry Christmas and God bless!
This was our second time dining at Five Crowns to celebrate a family birthday, and just like the first time, it was an absolute 5-star experience. The food and service were simply stellar from start to finish. A huge shout-out to our server, Mark, and his assistant, Nico. Both were incredibly friendly, attentive, and made us feel well taken care of throughout the evening. Mark was also kind enough to take great photos for us (including a perfectly framed selfie of himself with our family!). Honestly, every staff member we interacted with was wonderful. The legendary Lawry's prime rib lived up to its reputation once again—perfectly prepared and delicious. We also ordered a bottle of wine that was a hit with the whole table; their selection is impressive, with enough variety to cover different tastes and price points. To top it all off, we happened to visit on a night with Christmas carolers going table to table. They sang beautifully and made the atmosphere feel so festive and special. We will definitely be coming back!
We came to Five Crowns to celebrate a very special 62nd birthday, and our server Christina made it one of the best birthdays he's ever had. From the start, she was super friendly, thoughtful, and just an all-around amazing server. One of us has a serious seafood allergy (carries an epipen around), and Christina went above and beyond to walk us through the menu and explain everything clearly. She made sure we felt totally safe and comfortable, which made a huge difference in the night. She also recommended the Neptune upgrade for my filet, and WOW I’ll be getting that every time from now on. It was unreal. I don't always write reviews but I felt compelled to after this experience because the service was really just that good. Can’t wait to come back!
Tucked into Corona del Mar like a secret passage to old England, Five Crowns doesn’t just serve dinner—it stages a royal feast. The moment you step inside, you’re greeted by Tudor-style charm and a fireplace glow that whispers, “You’re about to eat like a monarch.” But let’s talk about the real crown jewel: the prime rib. Whether you go for the California Cut (modest and refined), the Crown Cut (a noble middle ground), or the King Henry VIII Cut (a 23-ounce slab of unapologetic indulgence), each bite is a masterclass in dry-aged decadence. The crust is seasoned like it’s been knighted, the interior blushes with perfect pink, and the jus is so rich it should probably be taxed. Pair it with Yorkshire pudding—golden, airy, and ready to soak up every drop of flavor—and you’ve got a plate that could silence even the most jaded steak snob. Add a side of creamed spinach or lobster bisque if you're feeling extra regal. Service? Impeccable. The staff treats you like you’ve just returned from battle and deserve a feast. And the ambiance? Think Downton Abbey meets California cool.
This steakhouse in beautiful Corona del Mar truly stands out. I loved the classic British vibe, elegant yet cozy. The staff was incredibly polite and helpful. The menu was interesting with plenty of tempting options. We started with the onion soup, which was rich and flavorful ; a perfect beginning. The steak was juicy and cooked to perfection, and the chocolate souffle at the end was absolutely amazing. They also offer a rewards program, which is a nice bonus. I’ll definitely be coming back.
It has been a while since I was last here , this visit was with friends, and I just hope they enjoyed themselves. I was expecting a little bit more out of this visit, I thought the food lacked a little flavor. Other than that the decor was the same, service was good and my company was the best.
Angie, the supervisor, is simply the best! She is so welcoming, thoughtful and helpful. Also thanks to our server Evan to clarify a few questions and being so attentive. We came to enjoy a dinner and taste some appetizers/desserts for an upcoming wedding reception. The 10oz Prime Rib is such a big portion, and so many great options for appetizers, lobster bisque, crab cake, onion soup, shrimp cocktail, etc. hard to just pick one. In terms of dessert, I personally love the dark chocolate soufflé the most, but this won’t be served for private party with 20+. Don’t forget to join the Lawry’s VIP, which can redeem the spending points to cash rewards.
Trinity created a delicious charcuterie board for us to start with, followed by a signature Crown salad, pretzel, and lobster bisque. Our friend had the prime rib and I had the prime rib sandwich (California style) with chips. My wife had an interesting entree I never did figure out. Our server, Evan (?), was incredible, the staff were all very polite, including Anthony who kept our table looking great. Overall an incredible experience. We'll definitely be back again!
If you love a good prime rib then come here! Had dinner reservations and came early to have a drink at the bar which is on the pub side. Classic English pub style feel, great drinks and fun friendly bartenders, Andrew and Mike. Dining experience was fantastic with Patty as our server. Very excited to tell us about the restaurant as it was our first time there. Quick service and all food was delicious. Look forward to going back.
I absolutely love this place. My husband and I have been here several times. We love going for Thanksgiving dinner. I absolutely love the garden room. It is so festive and beautiful. The food is pretty good. It’s a little bit pricey. Our waitress was very good. Food was good. We had one negative experience with the hostess. She placed us in the other side near the bar. We think it’s called the side room. We did appreciate that we were moved to the garden room once we requested to be moved. We couldn’t figure out why she put us near the bar since there was plenty of space in the garden room.
Five Crowns is a Scottish restaurant located in an area where you wouldn't think it'd quite match the neighborhood. Fitting more into the themed design of their sister restaurant, Tam O' Shanter, than Lawry's the atmosphere takes you to another country and another world. The design is less colorful than the Tam but still holds the influence of Scotland on their walls. You can see tartans, coat of arms, and a pub like feel everywhere. Old world design is integrated from the walls to the booths. The service is very welcoming, with each server having a warm and gentle aura. There was a genuine kindness to the words our server spoke and we were happy to have her on a dinner we were celebrating a birthday. She was the example of excellent service that elevated the dinner service and we happily left a generous tip to show our gratitude. But how is the food? After all, any restaurant affiliated with Lawry's should be known for quality when it comes to steaks and prime rib and Five Crowns is no exception. Having pretty much the same menu as those restaurants you can't go wrong with the prime rib. In fact, unless you are getting steak this should be your de facto order. Cut and cooked the way you want it, all prime ribs are served with a Yorkshire pudding and your choice of either creamed corn, creamed spinach, or mashed potatoes. I recommend asking for extra au jus and gravy to help smothering all bites. The prime rib is done like it's been mastered for decades. Pretty hard to find flaws and if you want to be decadent, you can always add extra items like the lobster tail. When it comes to appetizers we tried a few. The beef carpaccio was exquisite. A clean, rich flavor it was presented beautifully and has flavors that showcase how well this restaurant understands beef. The fried calamari was crispy and not too heavily fried, served with a creamy sauce on the side that goes well with anything. The crab cake is chonky and filled with crab meat. Very little filler to create this tasty morsel of the sea, it is fresh and easy to come back to over and over. For the dessert, we ordered the dark chocolate soufflé. I love a place that serves soufflés as they are difficult to make so not many places make them. Deep in flavors, the cream served on the side made the tastes smooth but decadent. One order is enough to share between three people unless you don't want to share. Than perhaps two instead. Coming down to Five Crowns felt very much like eating at the Tam O' Shanter but with a seaside flair. It felt familiar and comfortable and the food was the same. For special occasions Five Crowns checks all the boxes and makes you feel posh. I recommend for those looking for something unique in south OC to try.
First timer here! It was a very pleasant experience overall. I had a 6:30p reservation on a Friday night- I got there about 20 minutes early and they sat my table early :) The service was great. Everyone was super friendly. The food was good as well. The French onion soup was delicious! The table side bread was baked to perfection 👌 The prime rib was insanely tender - my only qualm is that it felt the meat could have used more seasoning / flavor. But after adding the seasoning salt, it helped. The parking is Valet ONLY and it is directly next door to the restaurant. Overall, I enjoyed my experience. I would recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a nice place to have a special dinner :)
The Goddess and I have driven past Five Crowns countless times, so we finally decided to try it. We started with cocktails and both enjoyed our choice. Their cocktail menu has some unique selections, but I unfortunately do not remember the names of our drinks. For dinner, the Goddess had a chicken pot pie and I had prime rib, which is what they are known for. The prime rib was tasty and done to order. The accompanying Horseradish sauce was excellent. Many places make it either too strong or too weak, but the Five Crowns does it right. We both thought the pastry on the pot pie was excellent. I really likes the filling, but the Goddess felt it was a bit bland. Our server Carley was on point..she was always there when needed but not at the table too much. She was knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. Will we go again? Without question. The restaurant has two sides. Five Crowns is a proper restaurant, and if you want more of a British pub feel, go to the Side Door portion of the place. The pub was very lively on our way out and we will probably go there next time, if we want a more casual setting.
While I love Lawry’s prime rib and all things associated, they are all (Lawry’s, Five Crowns and Tam o Shanter) hit and miss when it comes to a few things. Service is the biggest issue and opportunity for me. At Five Crowns, they definitely are a little more laid back and don’t ask if you have been there before like at Lawry’s, and front of house is much more welcoming, but I miss the carts! Otherwise, the menu is very much the same except for a few key items like the spinning salad! Lawry’s taught me to like beets! Anyway, the difference here is service for sure. Love how everyone greets you from beginning to end, not always the case at Beverly Hills :). While the service was great, only one name comes to mind and he was the last person I interacted with. Lester at the bar was fantastic! Not cause I was drunk of got a great drink, but he was attentive, engaging and also happened to hear me from a distance talking to the manager who seemed confused and dismissive. I brushed it off as another Lawry’s type service miss, but Lester quickly stepped in and made a non issue/pass through a great experience!!! Love that and the little things that make eating out that much more fun! I plan to be back just for him, because eating out should be fun. Great food is everywhere, but having a great time eating is not.
Had a fun time at a wedding and most of the service was great except for one guy who called my girlfriend sir? and also gossiped about her using the bathroom by the bar. I think that's a little unprofessional but whatever, most of the staff are good. My chicken jidori was a little bit bland and not what Ive had in other places chicken jidori, but it's not a Japanese place so I don't really think that matters. Their appetizers are great and I had a great time despite the unprofessional behavior of the 2 I mentioned above. I probably wouldn't come back for a date night because of the above behavior, because my girlfriend isn't even trans and it's unprofessional to start discussing that Infront of guests.
I had not been to the Five Crowns in decades so I was looking forward to my visit there for Thanksgiving dinner. Sadly, I was disappointed. As excepted, it was very busy. However, I was seated at my reservation time. Shortly, a server asked me what I wanted to drink. I ordered a gin martini. When delivered, not was very well made and hit the spot! I noticed that their prime rib prices were higher this day than their usual menu prices. It a holiday, so ok. I ordered the Crown cut ($73) and the lobster bisque. The bisque was nice but not excellent. There was enough lobster in the bisque to be ok. The disappointment came with the prime rib. Since it is advertised as Lawry’s Prime Rib, I had certain expectations. They were not met. 80% of the prime rib was the bone. The “meat” portion was thinner than expected. It was also not very tender and had almost no flavor. I really expected more. The entree came with Yorkshire Pudding, mashed potatoes, and creamed corn. I’m not a YP lover, so I did not try it. However, the mashed potatoes and corn were definitely an afterthought. Uninspiring and tasteless. I ordered a glass of Camus California Cabernet Sauvignon. It was stellar. A very robust and drinkable cab. Service was ok but spotty. There seemed to be a disconnect between the server and the runners. Lots of details were missed. All in all, it was not a great experience. I really did expect more and was disappointed.
