Food, atmosphere, and service is on point!! I can’t believe I’ve passed by here so many times and didn’t know this was here!! My new favorite Puerto Rican restaurant.. and I travel a lot too and usually check them out.
Finally!! An authentic Puerto Rican restaurant! And when I say authentic, I truly mean it. Every dish transports you straight to the beautiful island. I grew up in a Puerto Rican household and traveled to Puerto Rico often, and these flavors instantly brought me back. The food truly embraces the rich, traditional tastes of the island. When you see dishes like pollo guisado, pernil, and mofongo on the menu, you know they’re made with love—these are dishes that take time, care, and tradition to prepare. This place is a true local gem for Cortland, and I hope everyone gets the chance to experience the warmth, culture, and love that comes through in every bite.
This weekend, we finally made it to La Bamba – authentic Puerto Rican cuisine, and wow… what a flavor-packed experience. As true food lovers who appreciate international cuisine done right, this place immediately won us over with its heart, authenticity, and bold island flavors. We ordered the Dragon Meal for two, and it was more than generous. The mofongo was rich, garlicky, and perfectly mashed—comforting yet deeply flavorful. The cerullitos were crispy on the outside, soft inside, and dangerously addictive. The fried pork chunks were a standout: golden, juicy, and seasoned just right, with that irresistible crunch that keeps you reaching for “just one more.” Add in the crispy wings and sweet fried plantains, and every bite felt like a celebration of Puerto Rican home cooking. We also had the chance to taste their pork stew and slow-cooked chicken, and honestly—this is where La Bamba truly shines. The meats were tender, deeply seasoned, and clearly cooked with patience and care. You can taste the hours behind those pots. The owner personally shared how hard he works every day to maintain high quality, and that dedication shows in every dish served. From savory to sweet, La Bamba delivers authenticity, warmth, and soul. This is not just a meal—it’s a cultural experience. If you’re craving real Puerto Rican flavors made with pride and consistency, La Bamba is a must-visit. Support local, support passion, and most importantly—come hungry. 🇵🇷✨
We pulled into Friendly's Restaurant, one of our favorites, but saw the La Bamba sign. Heck yeah! Let's have some fun. So glad we did! Awesome food and great service, personality, tummy filling, flavor pallete satisfying. We definitely will be getting more!
The food is so so good every time we come. Owners are also awesome, love interacting with Kevin when we come in! This is a clean restaurant and the best Puerto Rican food I’ve had state side EVER 🤤
My husband, daughter, and myself tried out La Bamba yesterday and were amazed not only by the quality and quantity of the food, but by the gentleman at the counter named Kevin. We couldn't decide what empanada our 13 month old daughter would like and Kevin recommended the pizza empanada since that was his favorite and boy did my daughter love it! My husband and I each got a Cuban sandwich and split a large yellow rice and fried cheese and let me tell you everything was delicious! We were chatting with Kevin throughout our meal and he was just delightful. We will definitely be going back and highly recommend you make a stop here. 10/10
The food was amazing and so was the worker/owner. Came in with my family for a little birthday dinner a little later then expected but I feel like that made the experience so much better enjoying the food and being able to talk to the worker and listen to his stories ! 10/10 will definitely be back I even included picture of the menu
So the CNY just got a new Puerto Rican restaurant and I couldn't be more excited, before we had to drive over 2 hours to get good puerto Rican food in the cuse at mi casitas now tu casitas but now just 15 mins away I can get a taste of the island in country bumbkin cortland. Definitely worth the trip if your in the fingerlakes area the fried pork with yellow rice and beans was delicious and reminded me of meals with the familia. The flan is on point and cant go wrong with the champaign cola to wash it all down.
We went here for my birthday lunch. I strongly recommend La Bamba Cuisine for their authentic taste & Generous Portions! While we did dine in, due to the generous portions we also had take out. That 1 meal filled me for Lunch, Dinner & Lunch the next day. I had yellow rice with beans and chicken. It was DELICIOUS!!!
Maaaan, this is a new favorite. The dude at the counter was super nice, and the food blew me away. The portions were huge but I still devoured it all. And when we were eating we heard the guy at the counter serve two people from memory. This is the kind of place where people treat you well and feed you even better!
My husband and I just had the best meal on our road trip. Kevin greeted us with a huge smile, was extremely friendly, and made a couple recommendations for us to experience Puerto Rican food for the first time. All I can say is WOW! Food was incredible, and Kevin really is the nicest guy. We will definitely be back on future road trips that take us through Cortland.
We have been wanting to try this restaurant for awhile and we are now sorry we didn’t go earlier. First off, the casual interior styling and table seating are immaculately clean including the rest room. Service was prompt and very friendly, it felt like family atmosphere right off. We ordered three different meals and we all agreed the presentation, flavoring and portion sizes were outstanding and the pricing was very fair for the home made quality of the cuisine. Many have the misconception that Caribbean food, in this case Puerto Rican, are overly spiced, wrong. This cuisine is flavorful without being over spiced. We most definitely will visit again sooner than later.
We were looking something to eat for lunch on our way to Alexandria Bay and to be honest we didn’t looking for this specific place so my husband drove around the parking lot and we saw at first we read the sign said “a taste of the carribean” but then we read the sign on the window near the entrance door said “authentic Puerto Rican” we just got back a month ago from PR trip and of course we still remember our experience when we were there. So without thinking twice we said “let’s go in”. This place seems like sort of cafeteria style to my eyes. Placed our order with the two young lady behind the line, paid and sit down then they brought the food to our table. Hubby got his favorite Cuban sandwich, he said this dish barely has the roll/bread and loaded more to meats instead (he wasn’t complaining he was just thrilled). Mine was arroz con gandules with pollo guisado and was delicious meals. Too bad this only one time things for us to eat here but we were just glad to found this corner hidden gems to eat rather than eat subway or Arby’s. If we ever be around the area again for the future at least we know where to find foods that feels like home food.
Cannot RECOMMEND strongly enough. Occasionally, we bump into a surprisingly wonderful dining experience. La Bamba was one of those that provided a delicious break from a long highway drive that left us sated and happy. The food preparation is top-notch, among the best pulled pork and perfectly prepared plaintain. The husband-wife team are warm, engaging, smiling, and, well, cute to watch interacting. And, for a quick stop (fast casual), about the cutest/cleanest bathroom you might encounter with cute touches elsewhere, such as the bicycle holder for utensils. If you're driving down 81 with the slightest hunger, STOP and dine at La Bamba. If you live in the area, ask yourself why you haven't tried it already.
Excellent food and service. Fresh gandules in the yellow rice. We sampled a little bit of everything from pernil to chicken to empanadas and sweet plantains. Bilingual speaking, so ordering in person or phone would not be an issue. There is plenty of seating. Good atmosphere. Easy to get to right of 81S to Cortland, NY. Didn't get a chance to take pics of food. We were hungry, and it was good.
Wasn’t sure what to expect out of this little hole in the wall spot, but I’m so happy I stopped in! Ordered a combo #2 for $14.99 which included a choice of protein, yellow rice, an empandilla, and a canned soda. My choice for protein ended up being the slow roasted pork and it was delicious! Great service and great portions for the price. Would highly recommend!!
Found this gem on a road trip for work and I was really craving tostones…and boy did they deliver! Their rice and pernil are really good but the TOSTONES are SO freakin good! I was happy with the service, the cleanliness, and the flavor/portions of food. It almost feels like you’re sitting in a restaurant in Miami in there. The natural juices/ jugos naturales are delicious. We had mango and guava and they were both very delectable. I highly recommend stopping by if you’re looking for authentic Puerto Rican food. Thanks for the great experience, I will definitely be back on the next roadtrip.
Updated review! I ordered the mofongo again but this time it came with Puerto Rican style chicken broth! It definitely made it better but this time there wasn’t any of the spice topping like before. I much prefer the broth over the topping so I’m ok with that. They also had music playing and some Christmas decor as well. Service was perfect and I’m not sure if they made the changes on their own or saw the review I made but I am very impressed. I also got pistachio and Coquito flan that were very nice, but they have a lot of other treats available. I did wait 15 minutes for my order BUT I am ok with the wait for this proper meal. The place is instagram pretty but would definitely be better with some music. My Puerto Rican grandmother requested Mofongo so I ordered her the pork kind and an original flan. The mofongo had good flavor but was tough and definitely needed broth. Just a bit of pork or chicken broth would have made it better, but it was still very good. My grandma has not tried her flan yet so I don’t have anything to say on that for now.
I am very happy I found this great Latin food restaurant on my trip south on 81. Very easy on and off the Cortland exit. Food was delicious. The two people who worked there were extremely pleasant. I had the chicken, plantains and rice. Perfect amount of food per serving, and the home-made hot sauce was delicious!! It was a low to medium heat (I understand not everyone loves their lips and tongue burning off like me), but it had a nice bite and it did not change the actual flavor of the food. If you enjoy hot sauce, give it a try! I can't wait for my next trip up 81 to stop in here! With so many fast food places (which I refuse to eat at), this was a great find with great food. Could have taken the food to go, but I ate there and really enjoyed the atmosphere. My order was prepared quick, so don't concern yourself about a wait for delicious food.
The first time I went in person and it was great. Next, I ordered through DoorDash and the first order was similar to in-store dining. Since then, the portion sizes have decreased significantly, nearly half on sides. When it happened once, I figured it was a new person or accident, and let it go. NBD. It has become their standard. Smaller portions on delivery. Not just that, but my last order was dry and unfinished. It wasn't just cold due to weather, which I can understand. The cheese on top was formed in its shreds but goopy like they had tried to melt it but didn't care enough to give it professional attention. I ordered the yellow rice and got white. It was a complete disappointment. The FIRST time I went, it was worth every penny. Pulling this on ToGo orders is very scammy, too. People have less ability to correct their complaints that way.
