Opinions de JR's Barbeque Culver City
Native of southeast TX ate BBQ there for 50yrs till I moved to West LA. I've eaten more than a few BBQ offerings here in LA and honestly I've had some good, some bad, and then JR's. Back in TX we call them BBQ joints. JR"s is a real BBQ joint and the food to match. Ribs are excellent and my first choice every time I stop in which is about once a month. I highly recommend taking the time to call ahead and go enjoy a real BBQ joint in LA. Thank you JR's!
BEST "real" BBQ in LA. I was raised in the South and have a hard time finding anything that compares to the food I was raised on. Always friendly, feels as if I'm being treated like family. Peach cobbler like my Aunt Virginia used to make back in Georgia.
Ordered thru Grubhub, and before I placed my order, had a few questions so I called up the restaurant. Robert answered my questions and went out of his way to make sure I was getting the order right. We ordered JRs Full slab baby back ribs, pulled pork sandwich, bbq beans, coleslaw, corn bread, and corn on cob. All of the food was delectable. Ample servings had us nice and full after licking our fingers. This bbq is a Memphis style, meaning thin and tangy sauce, not that thick KC style. I will definitely be ordering from again. I'm usually afraid to try new places but sure am glad I did.
The best BBQ in LA! Soooo good and really nice service. The ribs and the baked beans are my go to items!
Went in last min (5min before they close)... Who does that!? Anyways they still hooked me up and took care of me! They service was great and the food was amazing! I'll definitely be back! Worth a try if you are in the Area and want some delicious BBQ. Did I mention it's all made from scratch
First visit. Phat boy happy. Definitely coming back. Like most bbq joints, they have multi-meat combos, plates, and meats by the pound. I got the brisket and pulled pork. Both were tender, juicy, and the portion was huge. I'm legit getting 2 meals out of this, so the price point is amazing. The sauce was on point. They have hot - mild options. As a proper Mexican, i eat a lot of hot food and this sauce shocked me. Hot is legit hot. So if you don't eat really spicy food often, consider medium or mild. The staff was friendly, and the food came out quickly.
Amazing food. Make sure to tip as well. The food is that good. The best macaroni and cheese I’ve had in years.
Insanely good Memphis style bbq and sides. We got pork ribs, beef ribs and brisket dinners with coleslaw beans and potato salad. Everything was top notch and had such good rich flavors. Super fast service and very nice staff and my companions said the 7-up cake was excellent! Highly recommend!
I am from Mojave CA and this is one of the BEST BBQ places I've EVER had. Ordered the Ribs, chicken and brisket. The flavor was magnificent and the meat was moist even the white meat chicken. The baked beans were very delicious and tasty. Potato salad was good too, very unique as well as the cole slaw. The greens were ok, it lacked the seasoning that I'm used to but they are cooked at a perfect texture so just add your own seasoning. Peach cobbler comes is generous portions. Very delicious over all and will go back very frequently.
My new favorite BBQ for overall quality and value. Great smoke on all the meats. I got the sauce on the side so I could experiment. Spicy sauce is super spicy (just the way I like it) so beware...and enjoy! Best beef ribs I think I’ve ever had.
Been coming here for years good food, great people all the classics are served. A word of caution however during holidays , like fourth of July order at least 1 week in advance just so you don't have to wait an hour for your food .Foods made daily so when there out, it's gone till the next day. I'd recommend the 3 meat meal with double coleslaw.
Real southern BBQ in L.A, finally! Fantastic brisket, Mac'n'cheese taste like Grandma's, hush puppies aka corn muffins soft and tasty, great baked beans! Queen D will serve you as if she's your mama. Will come back!
JR's gives great portions and the barbeque is tasty. If you like some decent heat, go medium on the sauce. Really great brisket, beef links and rib tips. I had the beans and coleslaw for sides. Nothing disappointed.
After having driven by this place for years, finally decided to have BBQ for Christmas Eve. What a great idea. Had to beef brisket, it was tender , very flavorful, and the barbecue hot sauce was absolutely Heavenly. Homemade potato salad and homemade baked beans topped off a great meal. I can't wait to go back. Very good
One of the best BBQ places I've been too. And it is not only about the food. The owner makes you feel like your family. It's a wonderful place. We ordered the 3 meat combo with Pork ribs, Rib tips & Chicken, with coleslaw and potato salad. I really recommend this place if you want some great BBQ!
Randomly just asked Google for restaurants near me. This place is kinda in a cut would totally pass this up if I didn't have directions. This mac and cheese has no right being as good as it is, I am always disappointed by mac but damn if it wasn't fire here. The spicy bbq sauce wasn't deathly spicy and had a great taste! Don't sleep on the cornbread either. The pulled pork was pulled perfect. My new bbq place you won't be disappointed
The owner very polite and friendly, food absolutely delicious.
If you like BBQ, you gotta stop by JR's! This is Tennessee style, for a kid from KC, it's very much akin to the kind of BBQ I grew up with and JR does it right! We chatted with Bobby the owner while we waited for our order, probably the nicest gentleman we've spoken with on this side of town. The pork ribs were amazing, and the same goes for the pulled pork. Great smoke on everything, great sauce, and those beans! You gotta try the BBQ beans. We stopped in for a late lunch and look forward to grabbing dinner here soon at one of the picnic tables out front.
It's a hole in the wall place with limited parking, so for all the haters go somewhere else, and make room for the rest who love JR's. For me, it's all about the rib tips, it's not for everybody, but I feel if you're eating BBQ, you should be gnawing on a bone. Caveman style.
A precarious right turn off LA Cienega and Blackwelder will put you in barbeque heaven. Long-time flavor consistent quality.
Absolutely DELICIOUS. I ordered the Large Mixed Tray for my birthday gathering (so much food!). Everyone was raving about how good the bbq was, doing the happy dance while eating. The ribs are some of the most tender fall off the bone ribs I've ever eaten. Very friendly and kind service at the window. I will be returning any time I'm in the mood for bbq. Thank you so much!
Got a Rib tip dinner, a Brisket dinner both with bbq beans and potato salad. The food was fresh and delicious. The brisket was super tender would of loved a little more sauce on it. The service was great. It actually has been almost 20 years since the last time I had bbq from here. 👍🏼
Great portions. Had brisket, pulled pork and beef ribs. Get sauce on the side no reason to slather everything with sauce. Good smoke, friendly wait staff. 7up cake will give you diabetes but worth it. Great beans, potatoes salad was above average. Good value for money. Wish beef ribs were a bit meatier but minor complaint.
I had 3 ribs and fantastic coleslaw with pineapple mixed so sweet and tasty my husband had brisket sandwich it was filled with shredded BBQ meat with the yummy coleslaw we sat out side at the picnic tables it was nice and relaxing the best new BBQ place for us indeed,We will be back for sure. Yummy yummy.
Best bbq west of the Mississippi! Everything is delicious and flavorful. I’ve been eating here for years and so very glad I found this hidden gem in Culver City. When I think about Jr’s my mouth waters and it always tastes better then I remember. Consistency throughout the years and friendly.
We used to come here years ago when my husband worked nearby. But we moved and then it just fell off our radar. We went back yesterday and boy, am I glad we did! I got the beef brisket sandwich and my husband got the pulled pork. Both with hot sauce. We also got onion rings and fried zucchini, and pork rib tips. The sandwiches and the hot sauce were excellent!! The hot sauce has a heat that builds. The rib tips are dreamy! The onion rings and the zucchini were perfectly fried though I would have preferred more spices in the batter. We will definitely be coming back for a slab of pork ribs and some more rib tips! And will happily stop here for a sandwich for lunch! The food was enough for two lunches.
The food was amazing and the service was even better. My husband and I came all the way from Vegas and will be back.
My photo here cannot do this place justice. I implore you to give this BBQ place a shot. I've had plenty of BBQ in my lifetime and most of it has been pretty mid to basic at best. This beef brisket sandwich completely change my opinion on BBQ entirely. The sauce was sweet and they actually had a damn good spice kick to it. I got the medium and most of my friends got the hot variant. It definitely packs a really good punch. Caught all of us by surprise. I absolutely will be trying hot. I came here in a group and everybody enjoy their food immensely. They either got the pulled pork sandwich or beef brisket sandwich, like the one pictured. I absolutely will be back to try more.
HAD A FANTABULOUZZZ BLAZZZAZZZ .... MY FRIEND WANTED TO GO ON A MID DAYNLUNCH DATE, SO I REQUESTED JR'S BCUZ IT WAS ON MY MATCH LIST FROM GOOGLE. NOT TO MENTION, THAT MY ONE DAY WHILE RIDING MY BIKE FROM MY DOCTOR'S OFFICE, I RODE BY AND THE SMELL JUST MAKES U WANT TO PULL OVER AND HAVE A MEAL RIGHT RHEN AND THERE. HOWEVER, I DID NOT DO THAT ON THAT DAY. TODAY WAS THE DAY THAT I MADE IT TO JR'S. I ORDERED THE 2 MEAT COMBO W/ BEANS & COLESLAW. (THEY PUT EGG WHITES IN THE POTATO SALAD, AMD I AM ALLERGIC 2 EGG WHITES). MY 2 MEATS WERE THE BEEF TIPS & BRISKET. 1. THE SERVICE WAS QUICK AND FRIENDLY. 2. THE FOOD CAME TO THE TABLE, PIPING HOT !!!! HAD A SWEET TEA ARNOLD PALMER & WATER ALONG SIDE MY MEAL. BROUGHT HOME A TO GO PLATE FOR LUNCH 2MORROW, WHILE I DO HOMEWORK AND LAUNDRY. CHECK OUT JR'S .... TRUST ME, U WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. AND, PEOPLE, PLEASE DO NOT FREAK OUT WHEN U CATCH A CELEBRITY OR 2 WHILE VISITING. BON APETIT ... TOOTLES POODLES !!!!
Forget every place you only thought had great BBQ. This is by far my favorite BBQ spot in CALIFORNIA. You will NOT EVER BE DISAPPOINTED WITH ANYTHING YOU ORDER. Service is UNBEATABLE. Everything is good and I do mean EVERYTHING! Worth every penny, more than generous portions and If you go here one time, YOU WILL RETURN. If you’re looking for BBQ, go and check it out. You’re welcome! If you’re planning a party, you will not go wrong ordering from JR’S BBQ!!!
Absolutely loved the BBQ and the sides! We tried the brisket, the pulled pork, and the beef link with both mild and medium sauces. Everything was excellent! Very tasty and we cannot wait to come back!
JR‘s barbecue is hands-down one of the best barbecue joints I have ever been to… Brisket and ribs were absolutely fantastic and perfectly cooked !!! My wife had the turkey and it was unbelievable !!! By far some of the best turkey we have ever had ! Baked beans were amazing as well ! Full of flavor and just the right amount of smoke… Cole slaw was nice and crunchy and tangy… definitely coming back !!!
Brisket sandwich was the deal. Cooked and flavored very well. Baked beans were awesome. Potato salad was good could be a little more potatoey for me. Berry hibiscus and lemonade hit the spot with this warm sunny weather. Owner is very generous and hospitable. Definitely coming back.
Mom and I stopped by for the first time and the food was delicious. Will be going back for. Excellent customer service
I was little worried due to the reviews but this places is very delicious! I got the Pork ribs mild and pulled pork for my meats. beans and a potato salad for my sides. Everything was perfect . They also handed out 2 pieces of bread on the side that you can easily make your own sandwiches with the beans and meat!
I was at JR's BBQ yesterday for a late lunch. I had the beef rib dinner (three beef ribs with medium sauce, and two sides). I eat at JR'S once or twice a month. The ribs were tender with a delightful chew and an ample amount of MEAT! The beens are sweet with the perfect amount of spicy heat. I would be happy to consume a pint or two of RJ's BBQ beans. I may just do that! Oh yeah. The delicious food is delivered quickly. I have never waited for more than five minutes. Place your order, sit down at the bench under an umbrella, and as I'm getting comfortable they call my name and I start eating. I don't waist food. After I finish the ribs, beans, and use the spoon to scrap up as much of the exercise as possible, I use the white bread to wipe up as much of the rest as I can. Mmmmm!
Their beef ribs are PERFECTION - WAY better than Bludsoe’s. The photo shows only the last two of FIVE fall-off-the-bone, very meaty ribs! The owners are super nice folks too. I’ve also had the briscuit - super tender but a tad dry (but it was right at the end of the day). Their hot bbq sauce is genuinely hot, too! I really love this place and I’ll be returning!!!
L.A. Times once claimed this place had the best pulled pork and beef brisket in America... Honestly that might be the case. We got both the pulled pork sandwich and beef brisket sandwich, and my taste buds were delighted. The 'hot' BBQ sauce ignited my mouth but wasn't completely inedible, and the baked beans were also wicked tasty. I would recommend that any BBQ lover try this place.
Best beef ribs I have. It's just that the sides are too small and some ribs are not well cooked If they can give more beens and maybe 2 more piec of breed because honestlyTHE SIDES ARE TOO SMALL it's like maybe 2-3 spoons of bean. (my where fine is he'll but my girl was tripping just for one that was not well cook)
Will try again. The meat was nice on the baby back ribs although I like my bbq sweeter so next time I’ll request it if possible. My husband did find the person a bit rude in the beginning but not with me. He then had a better attitude when handing out the food. So I will update when I try it for a second time. He recommended the beef ribs so definitely will try.
I decided to give JR's Barbeque a shot. I had the pork ribs, mac and cheese, corn muffin, beans and house cobbler. The ribs meat was really tender and fell off the bone as I was chowing down. The sides complimented the ribs and rounded out the meal for a nice dinner treat. The cobbler did not dissapoint either. I recommend giving them a spin if you have never eaten there before. I plan on paying them a visit real soon.
One bag for a $60 order? Double bag items with sauce. I opened my order and I don’t who packed it but a Pre Schooler would’ve been taught better. Two bags ain’t gonna break you! My items were all over the place! Food as always is BOMB!
Really good bbq. Best beef ribs in town! Edit: After leaving my original review the owner commented that I was rude. Honestly I don’t recall being rude at all. My husband and I had a very nice conversation with the gentleman at the window (owner) actually while we waited for our food. Aside from the negative feedback that we received from the owner almost two weeks later, I will also add this. We went in around 6PM on a Monday and some of the items that we wanted were not ready and we were told it would be 1 hour for pork ribs and I believe 3 or 4 hours for chicken, so we opted for pulled pork instead because we simply could not wait that long for food. The food there is amazing! The owner (man at the window) is very friendly. Not sure why he would get on here and call us rude when I don’t believe we were. But we will more than likely go back and still recommend this place to other people even though we were given a poor review from the owner. Maybe he can tell us how we were rude the next time we’re there.
Here's the scoop.. The meats are A1! 🤌🏿 The sides need "Major work" you hear me! 👎🏿--with exception to the beans, which were good. 7up cakes was good, cornbread muffins was really good. Lastly, food was pricey for a "hole in the wall" joint. I won't be going back soon, but do highly recommend the meat 🍖 options
Got the two meat combo, brisket and beef ribs with hot sauce on side, potato salad and beans. Meat was a bit dry but flavorful and can taste the smokiness. The sauce wasn’t overpowering and complimented the meat nicely. Potato salad was a bit more mashed than expected but the baked beans were great. Portions were on point. In total spent $29 (with tip).
Some great flavor and and well cooked meat for BBQ. The pulled pork was as country as they come, just like a backyard BBQ. The ribs were seasoned well and had some serious kick. I took a star just because portion to price ratio felt like I could have been a little more, but no real complaints and it could be due to I have a big stomach. Definitely need to try their BBQ if you're in the area.
First time eating at JR's BBQ. Food was okay, I have had better. Ordered a combo plate with Ribs, Brisket with two sides. Beans with Potato salad. JR'S sides are condiment size portions. Very small. Potato salad was bland. Beans were okay. Meat was tender but needed more flavor. No dining inside, dining outside only. I spent $29.00 for a combo plate with a drink.
Right when we arrived, we were immediately turned off. The building was a little run down and their company van was in the parking lot had a flat tire, was very dirty, and piled high with just junk inside. Once we walked into the restaurant, it seemed like a very quick eat and leave place as they do also have takeout. My whole family each ordered the pulled pork sandwich, which I will admit, it was very good. It's hard to get a good pulled pork sandwich. I chose the potato salad as my side and even though everyone talks highly of it, it wasn't the best. It had the same consistency as mashed potatoes which kind of turned me off. For just the pulled pork sandwich and a ice cream scoop size of potato salad, it was about $10. Pretty pricey... Inside the restaurant I could see the Windows haven't been cleaned in Months but otherwise everything else seemed clean. My whole family received our food in just about 5 minutes which is really good for any restaurant. Choose to go here at your own risk. Not really something I would plan on going to again if I had the chance.
Mr Bobby was very friendly, unfortunately I don't care about service or any other issues in regards to eating establishment. I only care about how good food is, it wasn't that good. Woody's BBQ on Crenshaw and Slauson is much better. Worth the drive.
Prices are just too high now for BBQ. Why does everyone act as though BBQ is gold plated. It's stupid expensive here and in LA. Decent but won't go back again after a ubsurd price for lunch that did not satisfy. Plus the mother could care less about client happiness or experience and has closed the indoor dining area. First paranoid about covid, now just lazy I think. So only food to go or must be seated at run down picnic table in parking lot. So disappointed all around. Could be saved with a few minor changes. Hope they up their game since there are many other choices for quality bbq in LA.
Food was very good. I had the pulled pork sandwich with potato salad and coleslaw for sides. Sandwich was great but I should have asked for the spicy sauce and I wish it was bigger. The potato salad was average and the coleslaw not my favorite style. The portions were tiny though! And for $18.00 I definitely expected bigger portions of everything. Staff was very nice and serve me quickly. I ordered to go so maybe the portions are bigger if you sit and eat. And that's really my only complaint. The portions are a little small for the price.
I really wanted to give a 5 cause dude who worked when I went was good energy :) full breakdown: the beef ribs were amazingly tender, too bad they drowned them in waaaay to much sauce ( which they advertise memphis style could go either way dry or wet ig) The “sweet potato” pie tasted like store bought pumpkin pie( my wife took the first bite she never had sweet potato pie so i was reeeaaalll surprised when she said “oh it taste like pumpkin pie”) Potato salad tasted store bought The mac n cheese was nice n good tho. Worker had good vibes.
I moved to Southern California for the first time back in 1979. I only stayed a year. Came back in 85. Since I left the mid-West, I have missed so many things. Especially good tasting food, cleaner drinking water and air. I miss the more neighborly people and less crowded communities. The weather has kept me here, but the food just doesn't measure up. BBQ is one of those things that I just don't get, here in the South Bay area. I feel good about spending my money on black owned businesses, but this food was not something to drive across town for. If you don't like Northern Illinois BBQ then totally disregard my comments altogether. As long as I have lived in California, I've yet to be satisfied with the food options.
I ordered delivery… maybe I just caught them on an off day, or maybe the pandemic has caused them to cut corners, but I was extremely disappointed with everything except the beef links. My biggest criticism was that there was a desolate and grave lack of flavor. It was mostly texture in my mouth, and even then… the brisket had no bark, the sauce had the appearance of BBQ, but once it hits your tongue it doesn’t swell with sweet and savory flavor like BBQ is supposed to. The corn was a side token, but it tasted like nothing. It’s priced around the average range for BBQ, but maybe that’s the problem… you have to splurge if you want real BBQ. Also I didn’t try the pulled pork, which other reviews says is pretty good.
The pork ribs were tender and the sauce was decent. However the smell from the meat wasn't pleasant, prior to adding the sauce. The potato salad wasn't good either. Nor was the bread (it probably should've been in the oven prior to serving). The prices are on par with like restaurants and meal combinations. The order taker was polite. But I doubt I would purchase from this restaurant again.
Perhaps I should have waited until 6pm. I visited JRs @11am today. The Mac and cheese was delicious. So were the greens but the beef ribs had too much fat on them, and the meat tasted old. Had to throw out the ribs, rancid smell and taste. In fact, the beef ribs were so full of fat, it looked like pork. Covering bad meat with sauce makes it worse. Some parts appeared green in color. I even left a tip but that was for the service. Sorry, I won't be back.
Great beef ribs and sausage. Otherwise, inedible pork ribs and chicken. The meat tasted spoiled and ended up throwing it all away. Very confused as I’ve had better previously. Spent over $100 on delivery and very disappointed. Multiple people sick and embarrassing. Didn’t receive Mac n cheese I ordered.
Super cool looking spot - great paint job. Underwhelming pulled pork that is quite expensive. Could use way more flavor in both the meat and the sauce. Slow, expensive, and forgettable BBQ.
Besides the food being mediocre (potato salad/cole slaw are not very good either) - the rib tips, which are listed as "all the meat with none of the bone," are exactly the opposite! More than half the rib tips I got had bone. One last complaint (when ordering from Doordash) you list them as a sandwich - but, of course, it came as NOT a sandwich. But hey, thanks for the free slices of Wonder bread on the side - they'll go nicely, into the trash...
Saddest moment in BBQ history. Ribs have no meat! They serving up bones with sauce. Look at the pics; see for yourself!! Mac & Cheese had no flavor; low quality ingredients. Snooze fest. Then I felt like I was in jail with the slices of white bread in plastic wrap. However: THE CHOCOLATE CAKE IS FIRE. SO GOOD.
MEAT WAS WAY OVA COOKED!!!!!!! ALMOST BURNT... FIRST TIME VISITING... VERY DISAPPOINTING...
The Memphis small end ribs was dry and tough! Tasted like they cooked to much heated it up and served it for the next day! The barbecue sauce was colored water!!!!! And I mean it!!! Water it was not on the meat!!! the beans and potato salad was enough for one good scoop! Terrible for the price they charged. It was our first and very last time going there. I was warned but gave it a try and I wished I had listened. I really have not found a good barbecue place yet!!! Some of you may enjoy it, but as for me and mine??? No Thanks!!! We wound up throwing it out! That's how bad it was!!!
Ordered two larger pork rib dinners and a large chicken dinner with three things of mac n cheese two lemon cakes and a sweet potato pie.All of it was trash on top of that I got shorted on the food it was know where near what I payed for. Spent. 96.00 dollars ? and it taste old I will never come back I will stick with woody bbq passed this place for yrs I should have continued. Don't waste you're money.
The ribs were tough chewy and dry. Just terrible. The potatoes were cooked so long in the potato salad there were no potatoes left- it was basically cold mashed potatoes with some pickle. Collards no spice or flavor. And that was $34!???
My first time trying this BBQ and it was terrible. The greens no seasoning, the Mac no seasoning, it's like nothing was ever seasoned. I enjoyed the bread and barbecue sauce that's about it. I came home and put that garbage in the refrigerator. I'll season it up later on today. 1/10 🤮🤮
I would like to give JR's a good review, however I find myself unable to do so. I called on Tuesday, February 2nd and spoke to one of the co-owners about placing an order for one rack of ribs on Super Bowl Sunday, Robert, who was very pleasant and helpful and he told me to call back on Saturday and that they would be happy to take my order. I called back on Saturday at 11:30am and spoke to another gentleman, also named Robert, who was extremely rude and abrasive on the phone and said "are you listening to what I'm saying, we're sold out. I don't know who you spoke to early in the week, but things have changed." I must say, I do not ever see myself ordering from JR's BBQ as this is not an acceptable way to treat a customer. I was able to call another highly rated and highly acclaimed BBQ restaurant in the area that gladly took my order in a friendly and helpful manner and the baby back ribs from that restaurant were excellent. I can only hope the owner, Robert, reads this review and realizes the disservice that his employee has done.
So order 3 plates and the taste was terrible, don't not do the cold slaw and beef brisket missing every seasoning there is! Rib tips seems like another type of meat.. they call there rib tip sandwich a plate with 2 pieces of white bread on side! Might as well order rib tip dinner with white bread as bbq spots give u anyways on the side! The seasoning is terrible !bbq sauce needs help! Cannot cook forget it ...DONT NOT WASTE YOUR TIME
I don’t know what was going on maybe Jr’s was just having a bad day, but the chicken was so dry. I couldn’t even eat part of it. It was just so chewy. Only one of the ribs was juicy. The rest were super dry. It’s like theyuse the meat from yesterday I don’t know, but it wasn’t fresh not impressed at all not like Idaho barbecue. Try harder next time Jr.
The server gave me the wrong order 3 times then had the audacity to blame me for not looking at the receipt when the name and items were clearly listed. Double and triple check your order before they do not care whatsoever.
Food was tasteless, lacked A LOT of flavor. Money wasted. I love supporting businesses especially up & coming ones but this food was not it. Portion size were good though. Bang for your buck, but not when it comes to taste.
My family stopped to get something to eat and saw some beautiful art on the building next door so we thought we would wonder over and take pictures while the guys looked over the menu. A Guy from inside started yelling at me telling me I can't park there! I tried explaining and he kept on. I ended up grabbing my family and eating somewhere else. Never again 😒
I stood in line behind this lady before their advertised closing time and the cashier was on the phone for some time. It turns out the lady had placed a large order ahead of time and when she got there they didnt have it. She stepped aside while they prepared it and when it was my turn it was 6 mins before closing and the cashier said, "You picking up or ordering?" I said, "Ordering." He flat out said, "we closed now." I would rather take my money elsewhere than this small business that was too lazy to take a small order compared to the one that lady placed.
Friendly staff but the food was simply awful!!!! I got a pulled pork sandwich. It was so dry I felt like it was cutting my throat as I swallowed it. Coleslaw - terrible. Baked beans were so so. The lemon cake - dry, dry, tasteless and dry. The pecan pie did not appear to be homemade. I paid an arm and a leg and the food was in edible.
So my boyfriend bought me food from here. My dad owns BBQ food truck. I am used to brisket. This was dry no flavor. Greens horrible. Mac was ok. Beans were canned. I am not impressed. Just not worth the money. I wish I would have read the reviews. I would have told me don’t buy.
Poor customer service. He was belligerent after we paid $133 for a delivery. Only $20 worth of food showed up. Once we called to inquire about the order, whoever the older male employee was, immediately went on an verbal attack and told us he would never trust a random Uber eat pers to deliver his food! We didn't ask him and could care less what he does. He wasn't complaining about the money that he received. If you don't trust random people and you think your customers are stupid, then why do you offer the service? Do better...
My family was really craving bqq, on a Sunday. So we came here to JR's but let me tell you this incident will never make us go there again. We walked in and there was this older black man just sitting and staring into blank space. We asked if we can sit and he responded yeah go ahead, sit anywhere. So we sat. He came in and gave us the menu, he said anything to drink...but before we can say anything he was like "oh! I forgot my pen". He came back 5 minutes later and was like " you ready to order", we said "yeah, we would like to order the family meal... and the drinks" immediately he interrupted and said "I FORGOT MY PEN again". So he left again. We were kinda annoyed at this point but we were like it happens, you know. So then he came back with a pen and took the drink order plus our actual order. We ordered 1 COKE (we said LIGHT ICE) , 2 Ice teas and 1 water...and our actual meal. Tell me why? This guy came back with our drinks and the COKE was filled with ICE...like the WHOLE THING was ice and hardly any coke. It was clear HE WAS DOING THIS ON PURPOSE. we specifically said light ice on the coke ! And he gave us the whole thing with ice. We told him we ordered the coke with light ice and he said " MY BAD" and took it to the back. He came back and SLAMMED THE COKE to the TABLE. We just couldn't take his disrespectfulness anymore. He ACTUALLY SLAMMED THE COKE on the table and made this ( look at the picture below). My parents were in complete shock and walked out, but not before HE CHARGED US for the DRINKS that we didn't even drink. Point of the story....DON'T come here unless you want to be disrespected and treated like TRASH.
The food was terrible. Lets talk about the sides potato salad was flavorless watery mashed potatoes, the baked beans straight out the can & they didn’t even try to doctor them up. The BBQ sauce was awful, the meat was tough- it seemed like it was baked then drowned in the awful sauce. If bread came with my meal that would have the treat. To owner of this business take a step back & really look at what you are putting out. The food is saying you dont care.
The beef brisket was too lean, the beef ribs were overcooked. Both dry. The BBQ sauce couldn't even save it. The coleslaw had fruit in it in a way that wasn't complementary. The mac was mushy and was probably the best dish but there was a low bar. Potato salad was decent as most BBQ spots' potato salads are. The staff weren't unfriendly but pretty low energy. As another review noted, La Cienega is noisy so if you decide to move forward with eating from here, get it to-go.
