Opinions de Marugame Udon Cupertino
Super solid udon for the price. Chewy noodles, rich broth, and they are generous with the chashu slices. I added tempura to mine, but if you could get a super solid meal for under 10 dollars if you wanted.
Marugame you've done it again. Somehow each and every location offers the same exquisite quality of fresh chewy noodles as the base for their endless combination of broths and toppings. Even though they're in their soft opening until 6.5.23 theyre already running at full capacity. Don't let the long lines deter you. It moves fast and is worth the wait. There's plenty of seating available indoor and outdoor.
Spacious, clean and modern fast-casual udon joint. They have a bunch of locations around the world. Prepared fresh as you walk by in the line. I went with house special #2, beef and sprouts udon. Very tasty. I have also had the curry udon before, which is also delicious. They also have a bunch of rice dishes if you don’t like you don’t like udon. If you want a quick udon meal that’s delicious, this is the place to go. Would highly recommend and will return.
Been to their Valley Fair location and had the udon there so today went with the katsu curry rice bowl. Overall it was good with their pricing being pretty cheap compared to other stores with katsu curry. Their portions are a little small but still solid. Overall I might like their rice options a bit more then udon but just depends on the day.
My first time at Marugame Udon was in Honolulu. This one is a copy cat of the one on Waikiki. The noodle is made fresh in front of you. You then chose your meat, broth and sides. Prices are reasonable, ie $17 for a large bowl. There are plenty of tables and chairs inside and tables outside are heated during winter. Highly recommended.
I was deeply heartbroken when I found out their Dallas, TX location shut down a year ago. Since that time I've had to do without deliciously flavored udon. It was such an awesome day when I found out there was a few I could hit up on my visit to San Jose. I'm glad my friend took me here. I got to experience that wholesome and savory broth I've been missing out on for almost a year. The creamy broth hit home for me. That silky and flavorful broth immersed with their udon was delicious. The chashu was well seasoned and everything tasted light. The entire meal was as well exactly as I remembered it. 🩵
The udon here is absolutely phenomenal — perfectly chewy noodles in a rich, flavorful broth. The tempura was crisp and light, not greasy at all, and the service was quick. The vibe is cozy but modern — you can tell they really care about quality and presentation. Highly recommend the nikutama udon. Easily my new go-to comfort food spot!
Love this place. Great udon decent prices. Quality is usually good. They streamline it pretty well across all their locations. Sometimes they will have limited time be flavors which are always cool to try. I also love the tempura bar. They got a bunch of sides that you can try Overall great option for lunch at the mall
Great value udon. I love it here cos it’s so cheap but has solid food. Staff are polite. But outside of food prep it’s all self serve. There’s a small area where you slide in your tray and dispose of the relevant items. There is a little area for all the cutlery or water etc that you may need. It’s 100% food court vibes. It’s hard to sit and stay for a long time like a restaurant cos of the vibe. It’s not uncomfortable at all, but feels more like a pit stop so I always eat really fast here without meaning to. I get cravings for BK pretty often and would probably go all the time if I lived closer. You can download an app to get rewards points. The system is unusual, but I use it by scanning my receipts on the app after meals.
Solid Marugame location for your udon fix. I like this branch since it's spacious and generally clean. They do seem to push people to buy more food add-ons though. I pretty much always order the regular beef and haven't had any issues--the broth taste and meat quality seem consistent and noodle texture never overcooked. I appreciate the push for more new menu items to keep things interesting for regulars. Parking has never been an issue in the plaza lot.
Great addition to South Bay. It is interesting when there was only one Marugame udon at SF, I never visited it. I visited that on just last year. This place is smaller than the one at SF. We arrived when they just opened, and lines are building. It took a while to get to our turn. We ordered tan tan udon, curry udon and tempura. We also ordered the fruit drink. it seems like the tempura options also lesser than the on at SF. The tan tan tan is vegetarian and the meat look like from tofu. They are yummy. You have to wait until you ordered and paid before you can find a seat. the Worker is monitoring that. One thing need to be improved is the restroom. It ran out of paper, and no one is available right away to reflll it.
It’s fast food udon. Is it amazing? It’s okay. Is it terrible? It’s not. It does the job, hits the right spots but it’s not anything to line up for out the door like at Valley Fair. It’s definitely something fast and convenient. A good spot for when you can’t figure out what to eat or your partner says “I’m good for anything”
Perfect place to get a quick meal if your children are hangry and the line is way too long at the sit down restaurant you were originally planning to go to. Line moves lightning fast, and you get to eat immediately after paying. Reasonably priced for Japanese food. Food is on the sweet side but I'm impressed at the quality of the food given how many orders they're cranking out. Tonkatsu was my favorite and the tempura zucchini and shrimp are great. We'll get the katsu chicken bowls again and ask them to halve the sauce. The beef udon isn't as yummy as the entire bowl of soup becomes very sweet and oily, like gyudon sauce. But overall, the dining space is really clean, bright, and not too noisy despite the number of people inside.
Note to self: don’t go 30 minutes before closing, not many tempura items available If you have had Marugame in Oahu the Bay Area locations do not compare. Probably the reason why I’m a little disappointed with the Bay Area locations. A huge difference I have seen is the size of the tempura especially the shrimp and squid. So much bigger in Hawaii. The shrimp at this location was so small. Smaller than the frozen Costco size. Also both the shrimp and squid were on the soggy side and didn’t offer much crunch so I would like to try when they are freshly made. Remember price adds up when you add the tempura. The Nikutama sauce was great! Worker gave us a little more since they were closing. I appreciate that service from the worker. But there is something different about the combination of free soup and eating hot crunchy tempura in Hawaii. Location has lots of seats which is a plus and I like the counter that offers … water, to go cups, tempura sauce and etc. I’ll still go back but for some freshly made tempura!
Pretty good udon place with a good variety of options for broth or sauce. Got the tonkatsu broth udon which was pretty flavorful. Would’ve liked my udon a bit chewier though. Also got the tan tan which has soy meat but you can add side of beef or chashu - per my friend, not very spicy but she has high tolerance. Atmosphere and service is great - very efficient.
Food was great! Went on a Friday around 1pm and it was fairly busy. We waited in line for about 15 minutes before we ordered. Ordering is a cafeteria style. You place your order and then one person warms up your plate and the noodles, another adds the broth and toppings and then puts your order on a tray that you slide past a self serve section of fried options all the way to the cashier. You take your tray to an open table and then clean your own table. Wouldn't say anyone was particularly friendly and enthusiastic but also not rude. I got the miso udon which was great and I'd come back for it.
The worst noodles I have ever had. The vegan tan tan noodles was cold. I was expecting to have something hot on a cold day. The service was even worst. They made me feel insulted. This was my first time here and they didn’t even guide me properly. The server was very cold, had a poker face all the time and was acting like I’m an alien. I was saying I’m here for dine in repeatedly but he still couldn’t get it. The food was terrible. It was supposed to be vegan but it had this raw fish smell. I couldn’t even eat a single bite. Being vegan, I was expecting something more when I saw minced soya but the soya was cold and had a strange smell. Worst experience. I don’t know why did I spend my money here. They definitely need to have better customer service and food. Also the black tray smelled disgusting. I don’t know what that smell is but it ruined my entire mood.
Terrible experience – please check your order before leaving! I usually trust restaurants to maintain food quality, especially places like Marugame Udon where I expected a proper standard. But this time, I was extremely disappointed. I ordered two Teriyaki chicken rice bowls for takeout, and both portions were unacceptable. The chicken looked and tasted like it had been deep-fried in burnt oil – possibly even refried. It was overly dark, dry, and had a bitter aftertaste, as if the oil hadn't been changed or the chicken had been cooked multiple times. This isn’t just about taste — it’s about food safety and basic quality control. It’s truly upsetting to receive food like this, especially when you rely on the restaurant to serve something edible and safe. ⚠️ If you order Teriyaki chicken rice to-go from Marugame Udon, I strongly recommend opening the box and checking the chicken before you leave. Don’t assume everything is fine just because the packaging looks good. I really wanted to support this place, but after this experience, I’m not sure I’ll return. Disappointed and concerned.
