I really like Taiwan Porridge. I've been coming here for years, both the Cupertino and Fremont locations, and it’s always been one of my go-to spots for comforting Taiwanese food. My favorite dish is the braised lion’s head (红烧狮子头). It’s very flavorful and reminds me of home-style cooking. Most of the time I order takeout. I usually buy enough food for several days, portion it out, and freeze it. That way I always have something good to eat during the week. I know everyone has different opinions, but personally I think the food here is very delicious and a great value for the price. Overall, it's a reliable place for tasty Taiwanese comfort food, and I’ve enjoyed coming back over the years. avg $12-16 per person.

Husband and I love this place!! We love getting the lotus, egg plant and friend chicken 🤤 service is also better than your avg Asian restaurant. Porridge with sweet potato also slaps! If you pay with cash, you can accumulate for stamps to redeem for $10 off!

I've been here three times. I finally know how to order and what dishes suit me. Although the restaurant's name is Taiwanese, the food looks like from Northern China and Shandong province, and they offer Northern cuisine with a slightly less spicy and olily flavor. It's a great way to enjoy a variety of dishes as lunch specials.

Incredible place. We went in for lunch after my wife saw it as we drove by. We got 2x the "plate w/3 sides" and it was great. Picking the sides was fine, and they tasted extremely fresh. The whole experience was so different than a normal restaurant - no waiting to get a table, menu checking, etc - just go up and order asap. Then the food comes right away, and it's super fresh. We got at least jiu cai + fried egg, semi-spicy fish, green beans, some kind of chicken dish. Those are the ones I focused on & which were really super great. Each of the plates was 14$... what an incredible deal. Is this only at lunch or dinner too? I couldn't believe it. Why wouldn't you go here every day? Huge fan, thanks

Having been coming here for almost a decade, Taiwan Porridge is not just a staple in Cupertino but also holds a special place in my heart. This super basic no frills spot feels like you're just grabbing breakfast in a homey environment that is unashamedly itself. Their job is not to impress you but to provide you with a good meal for a cheap price and serve the community in their own way. The concept is simple. Grab your Taiwanese sweet potato porridge and pick your sides. You can have as few or as many as you want to buy to go along with your porridge. There is a huge variety although they sometimes run out. This is comfort food that you can eat solo or enjoy with others. The portions are generous. The place itself is very basic and to some may even seem run down or stuck in the past but honestly that's part of the appeal and goes with the ethos of the restaurant. The service is always efficient and they never stop moving. The place gets busy so there is no time to rest. The parking lot is large but it can get quite busy so do keep that in mind. Overall, if you're looking for a warm bowl of porridge goodness with the option of many basic sides for a meal that feels honest, homey, and a good value, you can't go wrong with Taiwan Porridge. Can't help but to round up to 4.5 stars.

This is always a busy place for porridge. You get a porridge and you choose what you would like to accompany it. Usually a spicy or texture or salty item and they have a nice selection. I like eggplant, squid, green vegetables and sometimes noodles with the rice. If you have more friends, you can share the different plates for variety.

The porridge is in a pot at your table, you just have to choose "sides". Though those "sides" are really the main dishes. This is the first time I had squid where the gladius/pen wasn't removed ahead of time which was interesting. What I liked the most was the cold mushrooms, they were a lot of fun. The porridge itself was ok, and not sweet to my taste like other reviews mentioned it would be. But I'm personally not a fan of this porridge, I guess, though I do like the novelty of having it there.

Unlimited congee and good value for the food you get. I really like their beef, eggplant, sausage, intestines, cucumber, lions head meatball soup, liver, etc. Honestly I like most of their dishes. Very good for large groups since otherwise it will be hard to finish the dishes. I usually come here after big cosplay gathering events. But sometimes I come here and just have a billion leftovers.
