The best food I've had since I've moved to Texas. Brisket, amazing, the drinks, amazing, the service, also amazing. I would recommend this place to anyone that wants great food at an affordable price.

They have awesome beef jerky and good food really like the sauce The fried mushrooms were good really liked their ranch. Look forward to trying their fried pickles

Both bbq meats and sides are excellent. Sweet potato crosscut fries were especially tasty. Service was fast and particularly friendly.

For the price, I don’t know of another BBQ place in Denton that beats it. Pick up a great sandwich under 6 dollars, and pick out a 6 pack from their excellent selection. Will definitely be coming back.

Delicious food at a reasonable price, and good staff/service. They also have a great draft beer selection for growlers or a quick pint. Wine, package beer and craft soda galore. This visit got their pepper balls appetizer, double bacon cheese burger and curly fries with a Great Divide PB stout. Burger was juicy and fresh tasting, fries crisp and beer nice and cold. The star of the show for me this visit was the pepper balls. Kind of like a hush puppy, but but stuffed with ground chicken and jalapenos. I have had their bbq in prior visits and was particularly fond of the turkey, pepper sausage and their house made bbq sauce. Definitely returning (again)

I have lived in Denton for the majority of my life and yesterday was the 1st time I've eaten there. The food is pretty good. Love the potato salad. The brisket was extremely tender. But that Rueban sandwich was omg amazing!!

Great BBQ ribs, brisket and sausage. The smoke flavor is perfect. The unique selection of delicious sodas is amazing. They alse have candies you wouldn't find most places.

This place is great for BBQ and German food. They have alot of beer selection on tap is there specialty ,if you are in Denton stop by for sure. I brought a whole blueberry strudel home freakin delicious.

Great service, food is fresh and delicious. Soda pop selection is one of the best anywhere, with more options than you can drink. This place is priced very well as a restaurant and pretty well as a store. I love the feeling that I get every time I go.

I love this place! It's like a convenient store/restaurant. Their beer and wine selection is pretty good. On Fridays and Saturdays they have all you can eat ribs for $10. Worth it. They have specials everyday. Staff is really nice.

Mother's day and we are so happy we stopped by. It was very busy when we walked in. They took our order and we looked at their massive soda pop selection while they prepared our order. The guy who took our order was very nice. The food was delicious. I would definitely recommend this place. 🔥🔥

Not only were the food good, but they also sold different varieties of beer and sausage and cheese you can purchase. Great place to grab and go! Next time I visit Denton, I'll definitely stop by there again!

It's nothing to look at, but the products, both retail drink offerings and the menu, are spot-on. I've eaten here for over 20 years (Londonderry's location first, then this one). It's completely on-brand, and it's consistent. The German plates are the winner. Great retail wine selections.

This place rocks. Waitresses are really nice. Always quiet and nice and cool in there too. Update: 2 weeks later I get a call from this place letting me know that the beer I had requested had been ordered for me. Woodchuck fall harvest. I had it 2 years ago, loved it, and have not been able to find it since, and I had looked and requested it everywhere. I told all my friends about this and they love this place too, because our old all you can eat ribs place got too expensive. I'm thrilled about this place.

This place is great. I like to pick up a pound of chopped brisket and a pint of potato salad to eat for lunch for a few days. It always runs out too soon. I just can't seem to serve myself smaller portions. Brisket doesn't really need BBQ sauce. It's delicious all by itself.

Loved this place when we lived in Denton before and they are just is good now. If you love chopped beef slow simmered in sauce after being smoked to perfection on a great bun. This is the place for you. One warning don't put the sack down on your cloth seats. It is wonderfully greasy by the time you get home! Wish I could give it 10 stars.

Excellent food for a fair price with great service in a casual dining atmosphere. The grilled steak sandwich is fantastic. The sliced beef sandwich and the ribs are both delicious as well. We've only been at lunch time but the wait staff is always friendly and accurate with our order.

Love this place. After tonight I think this Metzlers is better than the one on University. I had the Double chicken fried steak dinner. Amazing. My family had the chopped beef sandwich, corn nuggets, bbq salad, corn dog and chicken strips. Loved all of it. Got some sodas in glass bottles on the way out. They have a bunch of different wines and beers. Amazing place.

My husband LOVES their BBQ and they have an amazing selection of local and craft beer. Since they have a veggie burger here, it’s totally an option for us to visit! Very happy with the quality of the food, and of course the alcohol selection is a fun shopping experience. A staple for us as a couple!

Casual place with amazingly delicious sandwiches, sides, German deli & PIES. The prices are very reasonable. The meats are smoked on site & everything on the menu is made with the most flavorful, freshest ingredients. From foot long fried pies (perfect for parties!) to full size pies that are truly eye pleasing and taste finer than ANY bakery in town. Seriously, hands down, THE BEST food and desserts in Denton. Also they have a fantastic wine selection but for non-drinkers, they host a serious root beer & soda selection as well as the largest selection of alcohol-free beers that I've seen anywhere. 4 stars for atmosphere only bc, well, it is a casual deli shop. They do have some outdoor seating that is comfortable and protected from 380 as well as 10 or so indoor tables. If you want the finest food in a clean (not new) place with phenomenal prices, go to Metzler's. I promise, you won't think twice about "Atmosphere"

I have lived in North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Texas, Georgia, Nebraska, Missouri, and Kansas And when I say Texas, I have lived all over Texas nor Texas East south and West Texas And I have yet to find a barbecue place that touches This place! We lived here In 2013 And I am leaving this review in 2025 and I would give anything to be able to find barbecue like this place still to this day. I just wish somehow I could Uber eats Food from there All the way to Omaha, Nebraska lol! If you are in Denton Texas You need to eat here Unfortunately, I think I heard that Braum’s ice cream has closed down If not, try their ice cream and try the Greek food at the mall And the best bar is aces I miss this town And everything about it, but especially this restaurant! If you live in Denton or Denton and you do not eat here, you are not living my friend! Germany has the barbecue game on lock!!!!! And while you’re at buy a bottle of wine or some beer This place is just amazing!

We have went by this place many times. We finally stopped in. The food is very good and reasonably priced. Their BBQ is good. The brisket is tender. I cut mine with a fork,no knife needed. The turkey was good and moist. You have to try the German potatoes too, they are really good. The staff is nice and friendly. The place was clean to. They also have a good assortment of beer. We will definitely be going back.

Love the all-you-can eat ribs on Fridays and Saturdays. Metzler's is a good place to do take out and very good BBQ like ribs, pulled pork sandwiches and more. Great root beer and atmosphere.

I had the German platter. The German bratwurst was tasty with just enough herb and spice. The smoked sausage was a little less flavorful, but very tender with a mild smokiness. The German potato salad was ok, but the texture was dry and almost made into a mash--it needs a little more oil and vinegar. The sauer kraut was the perfect level of tart, but we overpowered by the quantity of black pepper, but I suppose that was more the essence of Texas. The bbq rocks, so does the prices. You can also get the sausages, some cheese and desserts to take home and prepare yourself. Lovely service.

Metzlers provides a plethora of Kraft Beers both local and foreign. Placing heavy focus on local breweries which I appreciate. Their prices are a little high, but it is one-stop-shopping for great beer, and a variety of wines. If Growlers are something you appreciate they are sold and filled as needed. The food is OK, but just OK, portions are on the small side, and there seems to be focus on a play on German food, which for me is not authentic. Hence only four stars.

A little silly with 1st phase conditions after quarantine, you almost have to throw your card to them with the distance. But, for the important stuff, good is good, prices had not gone up yet place is clean and the folks were friendly. Good food for the family.

Ordered three meat combo plate with mac n cheese and potato salad. Pork ribs were dry, brisket and smoked turkey were good. Bbq sauce was tomato based. Service was great. Not busy.

Burgers are amazing. They have like 50+ rootbeers to pick from. Beer and wine as well. My man likes the chicken fried steak. We enjoyed their food very much.

You are eating in a store but service was good. You definitely get your money's worth. Food is good and it's usually most empty there to eat in. Hubby loved the steak and cheese and I had the chicken fried chicken which was hand battered and loved it.

It's a small, convenience-store type of atmosphere, with a dine in seating option. The German food is very good, especially the sausage. The barbecue plate was okay, nothing wrong with it, but nothing special. I would eat the German plate there again.

Love Metzlers because they're real, they're local, they're independent - lots of specialty items. But, in my perfect world, the tasty brisket would be just a bit more tender...maybe a little more fatty, with the mouth feel I have grown to love...returning June '24, I can say the grilled cheese w pulled pork has been great, but today was a fairly greasy unweildy sandwich (not cut in halves, hard to eat while driving!). Drinks are over-priced ($3.29), unisex bathroom usually dirty with a greasy, dangerously slippery floor. If it weren't for the very nice people working there, I might bypass in the future.

Price is king here. Some of the most reasonably priced food in the area. And pretty good too. For me it lacks that "something" of truly great bbq but for a quick lunch... pick up an unusual six pack or grab a quick treat this is our area go to at work. Solid pick... you won't regret it.

I ordered a cheeseburger and what I got was ruff... tasted like dry frozen patty. No flavor and really hard to chew. I gave up at half. The fresh veggies is the only reason this got two stars. Now their Chicken Santa Fe sandwhich is where it's at!! You will not eat one that compares... not even Chik-Fil-A!

They need to update their website. We went to their website, looked at the menu, placed our take-out order for a small family pack for $12.79. When picked it up, it was $22.00! They said we saw an old menu. It was on YOUR website, Roy! Either update your website or give people the prices quoted. That’s a 60% increase & your website isn’t updated? Did it go up 60% overnight (doubt it). We feel duped.

Their wine selection is ok, I would rather go to Total Wine but they do have some interesting labels. I do like their soda selection, very nice. I am glad that the sell fischers too, overall a nice place to shop

I ordered the 2 lb family pack for $39.99 plus tax it was $45 and some change, barely can feed five people with 2 lb of meat don't really think it weighed appropriately, I'm only leaving 3 stars because the food was good but not enough for four adults. Other barbecue places might be a few bucks more but you get what you pay for as far as quantity. We had to nitpick to stretch it between four adults 2 lb of meat two sides rolls sauce and pickles. Happy 4th

This was a mixed emotions stop for me. Meats, St Louis style pork ribs and Brisket were delicious. However the on the side bar b que sauce has to be the absolute worse I've had in Texas. Smelled like ketchup and didn't taste much different than ketchup. As for the sides, the green beans were dramatically undercooked and poorly seasoned and the mac n cheese was just so so. But the Coleslaw was great and it is hard to find a good one. The folks inside were extremely friendly and helpful. I will definitely go back for the brisket and ribs and I want to try some of the German dishes like the German potato salad and sausages. So I will update this next time.

We ordered Mac and cheese and got half rice for some reason. And it was 7$! I’m sorry but that’s expensive to not get what you ordered. Everything was cold! We live 5/10 minutes away. So it’s understandable. We absolutely love Metzler's we usually go inside and I guess we will continue to go inside. Also got some holiday fudge that was supposed to be on sale for 2.99 and they charged me full price. So a little upset today but every place has a bad day. Still a fan though!

Incredibly disappointed. Ordered the three meat plate. Meats were dry, sauce was less than desirable. Potato salad was ok, while the mac was average. Sadly, even the mac, which was probably the tastiest part, didn’t wow. Definitely did not feel the combo was worth the price.

Ordered a pulled pork sandwich, fries, & apple "strudel" from uber eats. Meat was delicious but there was no BBQ sauce in sight. Fries were worse than a bad sonic meal. And the strudel was... rubbery? Definitely a disappointment.

Was disappointed ... I usually get the german plate with sausage and a brat sourkraut& german fries ... The sausage was tuff like it had dryed up from sitting too long the potatoes were way too sweet like they accidentally spilled sugar on them same with the kraut. Wasnt this bad the last time, but they kinda been going down on the quallity

I used to really appreciate their strict Covid precautions. I get the chicken fried steak and some beer almost every week. They still have a sign requiring masks, but none of the staff were wearing them. It’s a real shame. I used to like them a lot.

The quality of food is subpar. I've tried about four different types of meat including the pork, brisket, ribs, and steak. Each of them tasted like they were taken out of the freezer and heated up in the microwave.

Food is amazing but the service was very poor. The lady at the front was very rude to my sister and I and rushed us into making a decision about what we wanted to eat. There was only one other customer in the store and they already had their meal. No need to rush when it's our first time there.

The ribs are tender but they're bland. The sauce which came on the side when I ordered a 1/2 lb ribs is disgusting. Very glad it came on the side. It's cheap and fast and if you put your own BBQ sauce on it's decent.

We got there at 9:05 pm. The girl behind the counter told us the kitchen was closed when it clearly states on the door and on the website that they are open until 10:00 pm. She said that they could do it this one time, but we'd have to take it to go. She pushed it so far to say "to make it easier on us you should just order the special." 🤔 The service was so off putting. She was extremely rude and kept rolling her eyes at us and exaggerating her annoyance to make sure to let us know that she was annoyed. I've worked in the food industry on and off for 9 years. Not a single place I have worked has ever closed their kitchen an hour before closing and then acted like the world was ending because paying customers came in an hour before. Every restaurant I have ever worked in has had to serve people even if they came in 5 minutes before closing. Her attitude is terms for termination in every other job in the industry. I suggest if you want to keep customers you'd follow suit. The food was just okay. I'm not sure if we'll be returning because of the rudeness of the staff.

I got a 3 meat plate. Meat was okay slathered in sauce. Side of corn is actually a corn nuggets, which I was not expecting. Potato salad tastes like from the grocery store. Dry and hard bread on the side also. Overall, I was very disappointed in the food. All these positive reviews...they must have not yet experienced quality BBQ. If you're into mediocre, this is it for BBQ.

Was really good bbq until this year… now hit or miss if brisket will be dried and tough and ham sandwich had rind on ham (not edible). Chicken fried steak is frozen, not prepared in house but mashed potatoes with gravy are reliably good. Hamburger bun was burned last time I ordered it , etc. Just not a add me quality as I. Texas Tastiest... OMG! If that's the case, time to move. The food was very sub par. The quality of the meats were very second rate. The flavors were pretty bland and the food came out luke warm. The only aspects of this place that were decent was the cheap prices especially for beer. The service was good but man I couldn't believe how many people were eating here. If you are looking for high quality BBQ, please go somewhere else

Everytime I get the friend mushrooms or fried pickles the are not done, the breading appears crispy but is actually doughy inside...this has happened at both locations 4 or 5 times, each time thinking maybe they were rushed, it's the lunch hour, etc...Other than that the burgers are pretty good. Service is good. Just please cook the fried appetizers a couple minutes longer, please! And also the beer batter is not good. Maybe offer without?

This is the first time I have visited this location and was disappointed. I love the University location, but this was pretty bad. The staff and atmosphere was excellent. The youmg lady who took our to go order was polite, upbeat, and over all had excellent customer service. I got the 3 meat plate with 2 sides . Everything but the brisket was bland including the BBQ sauce. The ribs looked and tasted like they had been in a warmer for the better part of the day. I did not think that a sausage could be bland and tastless, but these were. The food was bad enough not to keep for leftovers. I will be making the drive to the University Dr from now on.

The only thing good here is their beer selections. Pretty impressed on all the imports they had. However their food is awful. Dry meat and flavorless meat, low quality ingredients, way too salty potatoes and dry! I had their BBQ and some sides. I didnt like any of it but ate it cause I was so hungry.

I wanted to like this place. Cute little store. Reasonable prices. But, but, the food was terrible! Dried up, cold ribs and brisket. Chicken may have come out of a can. Covered in the worst bbq sauce ever! Tasted kinda like tomato sauce. Mashed potatoes are all dried out with no seasoning. Mushrooms were overcooked, almost burnt. Whoever is in that kitchen does not give a damn! Lol. Disappointing! Won’t be back. SMH

We were very disappointed. It has the neat hole in the wall feel but someone hit the idgaf button on our meal. Waiter was super nice is the only reason it didn't get one star. Everything was severely over cooked, I ate half and left.

Not sure what you gave me tonight but that wasn’t bbq. I usually like their food but tonight it was awful. I ordered smoked turkey and chicken and what I got was a plate full of rubbery scraps with barely enough sauce to cover half my meat and was unable to distinguish between the two. The green beans were ok but the German potatoes were over cooked mashed potatoes. I ended up just giving it to my dog and went and got food somewhere else. I have another “experience” like that again, I won’t be back.

Got food poisoning from this place yesterday and all the food that went down came back up within 8 hours. Not sure if it's a one off because most of the reviews are positive but I won't be ordering from here anymore.

Order some ribs today. I would have been better off getting beef jerky they were tough and dry. I was going to buy some stuff from there but didn't because the food I was served was terrible.

First visit since returning to Denton after being gone for a decade, I ordered a Reuben sandwich and fries. The sandwich had barely any meat on it and it didn't really taste like corned beef, the waitress told us that the meat wasn't as good as it used to be since they had changed suppliers. I asked about that and she said they get the corned beef from a grocery supplier and they don't make it themselves. Went in today and I ordered a double sized chicken fried steak with fries. What came out was a single PREMADE breaded piece of meat with gravy that looked like it too had come from a box. If this was "Certified Angus Beef", that steer must have been anorexic. Any place in Texas that serves chicken fried steak that arrives at their restaurant already breaded and frozen needs to close their doors. The service wasn't very good either and when I asked for the check she seemed put out. I won't be going back and I'm certain to let others know that the Metzler's of old is GONE!

Me and my husband walked into Metzlers at 11am Sunday morning to purchase some hotlinks, and i said good morning to the lady working behind the counter, and her response was, we are not selling beer and wine this morning.I said excuse me, we are here to buy hotlinks,she responded by saying i am just letting you know i am not going to sell you any beer and wine if that's what you really want, i am just letting you know. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL since neither one of us walked in the store and ask for beer or wine.

The reason for the one star is because you have raised the price twice in the last six to eight months. You can blame it on inflation you can blame it on whatever you want but when you're making a pretty profitable amount of money you shouldn't have to raise your prices , what I will tell you it's going to drive people away. I used to go once or twice a month I will go once every 6 months now as long as these prices are high. So now you lose 70% of my business along with others in sure to.

While shopping at Metzler's, an elderly man began addressing himself to my 6-year-old son and asking him inappropriate questions. When I confronted the man, the owner quickly stepped in and asked me to calm down. I asked the owner why he felt it necessary to interject on behalf of an adult being corrected about speaking inappropriately to my child, he told me that the man was a friend of his and that he didn’t think he meant any harm. My question is, if the owner and this man are such good friends then why didn't he pull him aside and explain that what he was doing was wrong? Why, instead of choosing to protect a child, did the owner rush to aid a fully grown adult? Lastly, why was this elderly man so relentlessly interested in my 6-year-old son in the first place? I used to enjoy shopping here but clearly, Metzler's is not a safe place for families with small children.

I’ve gone there twice this year between 7:30-8 PM for dinner. Both times they were trying to rush us out the door so they could close. The first time they messed up our order and tried to charge us for it. The last time they told my wife at 8:45 that they were closing in 15 mins. The new sign said 9:30, but okay. I personally felt like they didn’t want my business. I am happy to oblige.

We bought some brisket from Metzler's in Denton, yesterday, for our Thanksgiving meal for today, but it ended up not having any flavor to it. We tried putting it in our slow cooker with bbq sauce overnight but it still doesn't taste right. We spent close to $60.00 on this mess & our Thanksgiving meal is basically ruined. We decided to put it outside for our Cats this morning but even they won't eat it. So that tells you something right there. It almost looked like it had been boiled & not smoked. On a positive note the fountain drink we purchased yesterday & the brisket we've gotten there in the past was good, so not sure what happened this time. But, I do know one thing we will not be wasting our money here again. Happy Thanksgiving!!

After reading the reviews of this restaurant I was excited to order from them. That was a mistake obviously they can’t read English. Screwed my order up. No silverware in bag and yes I did request silverware. Ribs were missing. I almost choked on the pork it was so dry. Beef was roast beef cooked in a crock pot Mac and cheese was flavorless and bbq beans were chili. Ordered coke got Diet Coke. I Said no sauce everything was covered in sauce. Need to pay attention to orders.

Ordered a 2 meat plate and they portions were really small the sausage was so hard and dry it was uneatable, The brisket might of been the worse brisket I have ever had. The okra was pretty good just didn't get enough for the price of the plate. There was about 8 frys also. This will be my last time here for sure.

Nice place great atmosphere awesome service. pre-cooked barbecue that is reheated in an oven. That's why it's all dried out and everybody complains about that I've seen the reviews.! Actually the worst barbecue experience I've ever had in 50years it sucked! red 🚩 when a bbq restaurant puts bbq sauce on the meat without asking you if you want any at all thats how you know the bbq itself is not good. the hotlink was not spicy, the ribs were dried out and way over cooked, the turkey was tender but nothing had smoked flavor no char no nothing. i don't understand these places that supposedly sells bbq but nothing taste like bbq. well i tried it not good lacks flavor big time. i cook for a living and every time i try these places it makes ask my self if these people have these established resturants and they selling this type of food that has no flavor no seasoning how are they making it? its like 7 out of 10 restaurants you go in the food is very average coming from south Louisiana i guess i just expect way more than this type of cooking. the macaroni &cheese literally taste like they boiled the noodles and stirred in some can cheese sauce and served it smdh

Went in here to use the restroom while going to Mug's (which is awesome btw) and I hate doing that and not buying something, so I purchased Truffle Mustard and a bag of beef jerky at the counter. I was on a road trip and the jerky was meant to be a snack on the road. Not 5 minutes into my road trip, I opened the beef jerky to find it was covered in mold. Definitely wasted my money here. I called and told them, and the girl who answered says it happens weekly and they just return the beef for a reimbursement.
