Nice ambience, great steaks.. The fried Brussel sprouts is my favorite side dish thus far...
The food is really delicious. The atmosphere is calm and it has a nice mood. It wasn't too busy on the night we went. It can accommodate quite a few people.
Delicious! Our waiter was super helpful and patient with us since it was our first time. We enjoyed a beautiful dinner at a nice slow, enjoyable speed. Finished it up with dessert!
Wonderful steak and atmosphere. The manager was fantastic. Ate here while staying at the Westin Book Cadillac. Must try. We will be back again
The food and staff were absolutely wonderful. Superb service and care. I will definitely be back!
Delicious as always! Filet mignon was amazing. The raspberry sorbet that our daughter had - incredible flavour!
Oh my goodness, I have no words to describe how fantastic my dinner was at Roast. Everything from the beginning to end was stellar. Save room for desert, it’s worth it.
Phenomenal food, relaxed (but posh) setting, and a unique drink menu.
Lovely evening at Roast! The food, cocktails and service was impeccable, as always! Definitely try the sticky toffee pudding...so decadent!
Ordered the 16 oz. Ribeye. Cooked perfectly Great ambience. Amazing date place.
Roast has the BEST burger in the city. I know most people that come here come for a lavish dinning experience, which they have as well, but I've only dinned in after work in the bar area for a quick drink and small meal. The entire restaurant is nice, the atmosphere is genuine, and the service is top notch. The bar area holds about 20 seats and picks up a nice crowd aside from the general restaurant area. But back to the burger lol, it's AMAZING!! It's loaded with a fried egg, bacon, lettuce, the works; and it comes with fries. For happy hour I believe it's half off. I've also enjoyed their Brussels sprouts which are cooked well and very delicious.
Great meal and great service! I had the Seasonal Pasta (which ended up being lobster fettuccini) and it was incredible. My Wife had Filet Mignon. We loved both of them. Would highly recommend.
Expensive but a great dining experience. The bone marrow and Riesling were amazing. The charcuterie board was appetizing and if you ever go for happy hour ( highly recommend), you must try the hamburger with egg. It's amazing!
Roast was phenomenal. The service was pleasant and the food mouthwatering. I had the filet mignon topped with crab bearnaise, with a side of rosemary fries. The steak was perfectly cooked to a medium rare and well seasoned. The fries were absolutely addicting. I will definitely be back in the future.
The Good: hands down my favorite place to eat in Detroit. The rib eye is grilled to perfection every time. Happy our there is one of the best around. If you have not been here make the effort. Michael Symon struck gold here. The bad: their reservation system is stupid. I have called on many occasions and was told they were booked but showed up anyway to be seated right away. Just odd. Also have been able to book using open table when I've called and they say they are booked The Ugly: Valet
This is our official wedding anniversary dinner spot as we've celebrated every anniversary here. We recently celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary at Roast. I wish I was personally a little more adventurous when it came to switching up my order here, but you know what they say - if it's not broke, don't fix it! They have appetizers, soups, salads, main entrees served a la carte, sides, and desserts. They've also got a very large variety of specialty adult beverages. We've switched up what appetizers we order throughout the years. But our favorite entree is by far the prime rib served with crab bearnaise sauce. Some of our favorite sides include the fried brussel sprouts with walnuts and a balsamic glaze, rosemary french fries, and the goat cheese mac and cheese. They always have a variety of desserts to choose from and they've never disappointed. The atmosphere is classy with a laid back twist. Dinner usually seems to take about 2 hours or so, so make sure to plan enough time to enjoy your meal and your company. The servers are very nice and attentive. And the food is amazing. It's definitely not a cheap meal but it's definitely worth it! I would highly recommend!
Anyone visiting Detroit, Roast should be one of the top choices. Roast gives a very warm, cozy and comfortable feel, perfect for a Detroit fall evening. The steak I've been told is amazing, but I tried the roasted chicken, which is cooked to perfection and served over a layer of Tzatziki for the Greek favor. The combination of hot and cold keeps you wanting more. For the sides, the brussel sprouts are a must and I extremely enjoyed the whipped potatoes.
What a beautiful restaurant. Amazing staff and mouth watering melt in your mouth steaks. All the food and drinks were amazing highly recommended
Wonderful place for celebrations & special occasions. Definitely pricey, but well worth it. Every cocktail and dish was absolutely perfect. Highly recommend the brussels sprouts and the filet.
my boyfriend and i went here tonight for our two year anniversary and had a great experience. he had the rib-eye, i had the mac and cheese and chickpea salad since i’m vegetarian. waitress was very helpful about answering any questions we had about the menu. for desert we tried the apple tart, i can’t remember the exact name but it was so good. we definitely will be back for future birthdays and celebrations.
Still or favorite after over a decade. Best steaks ever! Service is always an A+. The happy hour is a great deal but get there early as seats fill up really, really fast. Valet prices have gone way up unfortunately but it's still your best bet. Parking is right in that area after 5:00 and garages aren't that close. Recommendations: Brussels sprouts, Roast burger (bar menu), fries, pork shank, ribeye, bone marrow. Oh, and chicken livers and polenta (bar menu only).
Our whole experience waa awesome! We sat at the bar and chatted with the bartenders and some of the staff as they were getting drinks. We stayed for about 5 hours and hung out and chatted with the bartenders during close. Great food, great people. Will definitely go back again down the road.
One of the best steaks I’ve had. Good food, good wine, good service. Ordered three appetizers, three entrees and three sides. Not a single dish was disappointment. The vinegar on the Brussels sprouts was spot on. It took away the leafy flavor and gave a acidic tang to it. The roasted bone marrow was perfect. Couldn’t be any better. It had perfect amount of herbs and butter to make it tender. The hangar steak was well cooked with red throughout and war outside. The charred edges and the charred coating makes it the best. I am sure the steak is moved around the grill for different heat distribution, but the juices aren’t lost at all. Would love to see someone cook. Duck confit and lamb shank had a good tender meat. It just came off the bone. I honestly wish i was eating this at home, would have been all over the plate and would have treated this as finger food. Again the fish had a char grilled skin and nothing can beat that. I would go here again for the bar food. Happy with the drinks and happy with the food.
Incredible. Pink moon oysters were equally as awesome as the marrow. I could go on and on. Hats off to the montepulciano too. Thanks Michael and staff.
Brandon was a great server. The steaks were cooked perfectly(I'm a former steakhouse cook). We definitely will return when visiting the D again!!!
Great menu items. Food was delicious and the service was top notch!
We went there for our anniversary and the food was amazing! I highly recommend the dry aged ribeye steak and the brussel sprouts. The wait staff was very attentive and gave us good recommendations for our meal as well. Overall we were very happy with our experience there!
Best happy hour in the city! The entire menu is incredible, but the brussel sprouts deserve their own shout out. Chris is an incredible bar tender, too.
Had a fantastic night celebrating a birthday, food and environment were excellent. Thanks again to our server Greg who took great care of us explaining the wine list. Can’t wait to come back
We have always loved roast and have been many times. This was our first visit after they reopened. Best part are the tables are FAR apart. So nice to be properly socially distanced from other tables. The menu is smaller but everything was wonderful as usual. All the staff were in masks and they were enforcing guests wearing masks when you were not at your table. It's so refreshing being able to relax in a restaurant!! It was a wonderful meal with wonderful service. Can't wait to go back!! Bone marrow and oysters are always our favorite starters. The ribeye is also our go to. Absolutely wonderful!!
I was in town for the Woodward Avenue Cruise 2019 and we were looking for an upscale steakhouse for dinner on Saturday night. We choose Roast after a couple of recommendations from locals and good online reviews. Our reservation was for 6:00pm and we were seated promptly after our arrival. We had a pretty busy day with the cruise and ended up a little underdressed for the atmosphere but we were allowed to be seated anyway (and they didn't say anything). Our server was fantastic. He made great recommendations on the wine pairing with our planned meals, and gave good advice for choosing a cut, proper cooking temperature, and sides. My rib eye was done exactly as I had asked for and it was fantastic. One of the best I have ever had. The wine pairing completed it. (I do not remember the name of the wine but it was great). Overall the experience was one to remember. I definitely look forward to going back when I am in town again.
We celebrated a birthday here this weekend and it was a wonderful experience. The waitstaff was amazing. The food was incredible. They made his birthday dessert special..and I can't recommend the pistachio cheesecake enough!! We will definitely be back!
This was an amazing dinner experience. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and our waiter was very polite and helpful. The cocktails and beer selection were great. The food was outstanding. Flavor beyond anything else and a place I will revisit as soon as possible. Best dinner ever!
Ate here several years and had a mediocre experience. Tried Roast again last night and so glad we did! Scallops were delicious and my husband enjoyed his steak. The service was good and attentive but not intrusive. Nice ambience.
So much to love about Roast!! The service was amazing! Our server Kevin, was attentive, knowledgeable and overall an awesome guy!! I had the pork chops, it was fatty, realized it wasn't for me, kitchen swapped it, I chose the half chicken and it was delicious!! Was with a group did a birthday, they house comp'd the dessert, that was a really sweet touch. Would recommend roast, and will definitely come back to eat here again.. Cheers
The food was AMAZING! The best pork chops, steak and oysters I have ever had! The alcoholic drinks were well worth the price as one drink gets you a nice buzz. The dessert was not too sweet and was the perfect mixture of ingredients!
The service was great and the atmosphere but the taste of the salmon was a bit bland the rib eye steak I felt the same about. Everything was cooked to perfection as far as tenderness and moisture. The whipped potatoes were delicious and I had them loaded to make it even better which it appears they normally do not do but I def ennjoyed them. Mac n cheese was good but I needed a little salt and pepper. The potatoes around my salmon were a little oily. I don't feel it is worth the price so I probably wouldn't go back. I enjoyed my drinks as well. The waitress and the staff that fills water and takes dishes were very much on point which is why I gave 4 stars or I would have given 3.
My wife and I eat out alot in Downtown Detroit and around the Metro area. Roast ranks up in our top 5 restraunts. Our server Michael was very nice and very informative. The Ceasar Salad was so delicious it was almost to good to be true. Food was excellent! We will be returning. Absolutely a great place for any occasion.
We had a business dinner here at Roast. We had a reservation, and a nice, friendly hostess greeted us and took us to our table. Our table was really nice and big! It is nice to have a group dinner without worrying about how much space you are going to have without bumping your elbow into your colleague. I ordered Branzino for my main dish. The server warned me that it comes with its head and tail, which I was already aware of, but appreciated the kind warning. It was beautifully done and quite large too! Branzino was not only beautiful, and it tasted as great as it looked. It was packed with flavor, completely de-boned (thank you!). Moist, flakey, just perfect! We had a few side dishes to share among the table as well. We chose Rosemary Fries, Brussels Sprouts & Walnuts, and Grilled Asparagus. They were all so good, we all enjoyed them. I was pretty full, but one of my colleague talked me into getting a dessert… Yes, I am so easy when it comes to dessert! I ordered The Bar. It was interesting, kind of a deconstructed S’mores in my opinion. Our server, Brandon was a top notch server. He provided great service, we didn’t need to ask for anything! And, always “ladies first” kind of service, from handing out the menu, serving drink and food. Love being treated like a real “lady” among all the gentlemen. Needless to say, the business dinner was a big success. Everyone enjoyed their food and drinks, and we were able to converse in a spacious table without being crowded. I would definitely recommend this spot!
Pretty good Happy Hour at the bar. Decent variety of Happy Hour drinks and tasty bar fare. We ordered the burger and Mac and cheese. No complaints here! Very attentive and informative staff. Will return to try the dinner menu.
Nice ambience. Amazing service. Went in with higher expectations for the proteins served here. They have some interesting side options. If you dont want all your dishes fried in pork fat please let the server know. Ours was amazingly helpful in this regard. An average steak though.
Good place for Anniversary or Romantic or business meeting. The ceaser salad was below average that why I have it 4 stars. The steak was well prepared and it has alot of flavor. Mac & cheese and mashed potato was fine.
Let me start with the food was great. Had an issue with time it took to get the food thought nearly an hour to get our food (and we didn’t order the porterhouse). I would suggest getting the steak with none of the toppings it just ruins the great meat flavor.
I started off with the octopus. It was so chewy that I could not swallow it. Maybe it was a bad night for the chef on that dish. It happens. The chop salad was really good. I particularly liked the dressing. My main dish was the 14 oz. New York strip. It was good, but also a bit chewy. I guess I was expecting it to be more tender, considering the price. Service and wait staff were top notch. I guess my expectations were a little high going in. I may go back to try a different cut of steak.
So I have been here twice. The first time it was phenomenal, the second time, not so much. We ordered basically the same meal on both occasions. The first time we started with meatballs as an appetizer and they were delicious. The second time I visited, they were still tasty but dry. I also had a Caesar salad which I loved so much the first time, I took one home for lunch the next day...this time this was also dry. The sides were pretty much the same....the mashed potatoes were ok and the brussel sprouts were ahhhhmazing. The steak had good flavor but was terribly underdone. I was just barely able to eat mine (honestly I should have sent it back) but my son sent his back because it was nearly raw on the inside. Between the two experiences, I am torn about whether I should go back. Price wise, Roast is a fairly expensive restaurant, especially if you are having a steak... It definitely was not worth what we paid on our second visit.
Creative cuisine. Outstanding staff. I was a little disappointed in the quality. Way overpriced and overhyped in my opinion.
It was good! Filet, while extremely lean and tender with a little bit under season... but overall a nice cut of meat. I set up the bar, typical bar service but not bad. I did had the mac and cheese, again very good, but a bit under seasoned. Anytime I have to add salt to something it seems like they've not quite done their job. Drink was great! Very chill atmosphere. Dinner for 1 was $90.00 with one drink and no appetizer. I definitely left full and was happy with my meal. Just some seasoning issues... That's all I could come up with.
Steak, mussels, sides and meatballs all excellent! Prepared perfectly. Ambiance was a bit of a miss. Lighting and spacing of tables was off. Host stand was very pleasant and accommodating. Service left some thing to be desired. We barley saw our server. Never knew where he was? Service assistants were great, helpful and who we asked if we needed anything. Our anniversary was acknowledged, and dessert was offered. This is a restaurant we enjoy and will return, but some misses last night.
The ribeye meat quality was great, otherwise it was okay. Potatoes were overly salty. Mac and cheese wasn’t good. The key lime avocado sorbet wasn’t great.
I ordered the Hangman's Steak with the carrots as a side. My steak was so raw/rare I couldn't cut it with the provided steak knife, unless that was the dullest steak knife ever. The carrots were cold. I ordered the oysters for an app and those were excellent of course they didn't have to cook them. This was my second try there and the first time wasn't much better but I didn't have to pay for that one the tab was on someone else. Not going back for a third visit. Service was good. And this place was given Restaurant of the year last year. Wow, just wow. PS- I took the steak home, which was most of it, for my dog and he loved, but he is a dog! I
