Amazing food and atmosphere at Chartreuse in Detroit! We had the bread (basil butter 🌿), twice cooked egg, smoked beet salad, butter chicken meatballs, and bangers and mash. Every dish was outstanding. Creative flavors and a great vibe. Highly recommend!
This was recommended to me by family and friends who live in Detroit. I tried the twice cooked egg, which is highly reviewed by others. It wasn't my favorite but I also had the sourdough bread which was yummy and a delicious butter that came with it. Then also had the stone fruit and melon and feta salad which was absolutely Divine! I love that they serve free still or sparkling water on tap. Also. Nice touch!
This place was just perfect from start to finish. The vibe is cozy and casual, but the food somehow brings this elegant touch that makes it feel special. We went with the server’s recommendations and couldn’t have been happier—we had the rabbit, double-cooked egg, mushroom ricotta, and shrimp skewers. Each dish was simple but packed with flavor, and everything tasted incredibly fresh. The pacing of the courses was perfect too—not rushed, but not slow, which made the whole meal feel relaxing and enjoyable. Honestly, it’s rare to find a place that nails both comfort and finesse like this. Between the cozy atmosphere, amazing flavors, and friendly service, this spot is a total winner. We’ll absolutely be back to try more of the menu and soak up that same perfect vibe.
I was taken to Chartreuse for my birthday dinner. And when I got there, I was amazed to see a birthday card signed by every employee that evening! I got to take Home a birthday menu! Had a special Birthday shot! I was impressed by the entire staff! The hospitality was top-notch and the food was the best I’ve had out! The handcrafted cocktails were amazing! Everything…Fresh, Palatable! And, my take-home good were just as “tasty good” the next day. The atmosphere very quaint, Very special! THANK YOU for an outstanding night!
An absolute 10/10 experience for our anniversary! Chartreuse has such a unique, welcoming atmosphere, but it’s their service that really shines. They paid so much attention to the little details of our celebration, making us feel like the only people in the room. The entrees were easily some of the best we’ve had in Detroit unbelievable flavors and beautiful presentation. If you want a restaurant that actually cares about your special occasion, this is it
Incredible spot! Stoped here with my girlfriend before seeing a show at the Fisher Theater and the food was incredible. Very unique and absolutely delicious, the prices were what we expected, portions were perfect and large enough to share. The cocktails I had were well balanced and inspired. Stop in for dinner, you won't regret it.
An excellent experience from start to finish. The atmosphere is cozy yet the food feels elegant. Every dish we tried the rabbit double cooked egg mushroom ricotta and shrimp skewers was very fresh and flavorful. Service was thoughtful and well timed. We'll definitely return.
We had such a beautiful evening at Chartreuse Kitchen & Cocktails. We sat at the chef’s bar, which made the whole experience feel intimate, lively, and a little bit magical — watching the kitchen work while being part of the energy of the room was a dream. The food was outstanding. I didn’t love the cola drink I tried, but everything else more than made up for it. The angel hair pasta was absolutely incredible — delicate, flavorful, and perfectly done. The atmosphere, the care in the food, and the experience of sitting right at the heart of the kitchen made this a night to remember. We’ll definitely be back.
Friendly, polite, welcoming and professional service from all, from the hosts to the chef we spoke to at the bar (special thanks to our server, Megan! Great recommendations and superb service)... wonderful craft cocktails (we enjoyed The Last Word and The Thinker)... truly delicious, savory, creative dishes. We loved the evening... thank you!
Excellent place to try various creative dishes such as quail, beet salad, striped bass with sauce/vegetable mix, and, yes, even a filet mignon. We went as a group of 4 for our anniversary. Service was friendly. We had 2 orders of bread, 2 appetizers, a vegetable dish, and 4 main courses. If you just get a main course, it isn't quite enough. Has about 20 tables either for 2 or 4 people; a few couches, and a dozen seats at the bar. Good for a special night out without super-high prices. Key point: The address is on Kirby, but the entrance is on Woodward. We got lost.
We returned after a great show at the Fisher Theater, and once again, we had the most wonderful dinner experience. The staff is so warm and friendly, the cocktails are some of the best in the city, and the food is just phenomenal. I love their eclectic veggie forward menu. This time, we both ordered The Last Word - I would assume their most popular cocktail - and it's absolutely perfect. We also had the smoked beet salad, which was so flavorful with the nicest hint of smoke and creamy ricotta, and was perfect to share with 2 people. My Mom ordered the veggie gnocchi dish which I'd love to go back for. The most pillowy soft gnocchi and super flavorful veggies and sauce. Delicious. I had the prawns and polenta dish, and it was so tasty and comforting; perfect texture and savory flavor. Yum! I kind of wish I ordered dessert; the chai cake sounded amazing - but that will give me a reason to visit sooner rather than later. It was packed early on a Saturday night, so definitely make reservations for the weekend. Vibey music, fun people, always a great experience.
Everything was impeccable! On top of the food, drinks, and service was the above and beyond treatment for my friend’s birthday. Even with just and hour before our reservation, they were able to print our menus with her a birthday wish with her name on it along with a personalized birthday card- signed by the staff. In addition, when we walked in, the hostess sang to her. They really made it special!! Thank you!!
Wonderful food and service! I got the Amish Chicken and I have never had a chicken dish with so much flavor and it was so tender and juicy. The sourdough bread was amazing. Plus, our server brought us some samples of chartreuse as we have never tried it before. Ended up loving it! Can’t recommend this place enough.
This establishment provides an awesome overall experience that genuinely impresses on multiple fronts. The blend of excellent execution, superb service, and fair pricing makes it a highly recommendable dining choice. Culinary and Aesthetic Excellence The food is executed flawlessly: every dish was flavorful and thoughtfully plated well, turning each course into a visual treat. The accompanying drinks were equally impressive and refreshing. Beyond the menu, the inside of the restaurant has a lot of unique character, contributing significantly to a highly engaging atmosphere. Service and Value Proposition The service deserves special mention. The team was amazing, helpful, and super accommodating, ensuring all needs were met efficiently. Crucially, the portion sizes were good for the price point, confirming that this spot offers excellent value for the quality of the ingredients and presentation. Notes for Diners The only minor points of consideration are the potential for noise depending on seating and traffic volume, though this was not an issue during our visit. The single true downside for devoted patrons is the difficulty of getting attached to a seasonal item, as the menu frequently rotates. However, this rotation is ultimately a benefit, allowing for fresh ingredients and inventive new dishes.
Chartreuse was amazing! The food was absolutely delicious and the service was phenomenal. Everyone was so thoughtful. We went there for our anniversary and they had the menus printed with happy anniversary on them for us. They offered us a beautiful heirloom tomato salad as well as a Happy Anniversary dessert! 10 out of 10!! Go there and just enjoy the farm to table meals. Aida and Brian went above and beyond.
I've been wanting to try Chartreuse for a while now, and I'm so happy I finally did! All of the staff were friendly and very helpful, and it seemed like they enjoyed working here, always a good sign of a well run business. I sat in the gorgeous lounge and was more and more delighted by each thing I tasted. The food and cocktails were delicious. I highly recommend the grilled quail, it was seasoned to absolute perfection and such a well-balanced dish. I will definitely be treating myself to another meal here soon! My only complaint is that I didn’t stop in sooner. I'm editing this 2 years later to say that everything here is CONSISTENTLY amazing every time I treat myself to a meal here! The food is always perfectly cooked, portioned, and plated with an impeccable balance of flavors. There's thought and love put into each ingredient on the plate. The cocktails are similarly balanced and delicious. Everyone on staff is so kind and lovely, but special shoutout to Tara who is always an absolute sweetheart! This is one of my favourite restaurants of all time 💛💚
Awesome experience. The food was flavorful, plated well, drinks were refreshing. Service was amazing, helpful, and super accommodating. Portion sizes were good for the price. It seems like it could be very noisy depending on where you sit and the traffic but was not an issue. The inside has a lot of character. The only downside is you can't get attached to a seasonal menu.
We enjoyed every sip and bite of our meal, from start to finish. Staff was friendly, accommodating, and well versed in the menu. Rustic, French farm table ambiance where they use the freshest local ingredients to present an often changing menu. They suggest 3-5 plates to share and enjoy the flavors of the season. We had crab cakes, duck, wild boar, and gnudi before finishing with the vanilla pudding and vanilla cake. Of course, we had to try their namesake chartreuse and compared the green vs. the yellow.
Chartreuse is one of, if not our FAVORITE, places to bring people when they come into town. Their food is exceptional and their service is top notch. We adore the constant rotation of menu items and the brilliance behind each creative item crafted on the menu. From start to finish, this is one of the BEST restaurants in the city - no question.
This was such a perfect experience all around. The atmosphere is cozy and casual but the food brings a sense of elegance. We ordered based on our servers recommendation and it was absolutely worth it. We had the rabbit, double cooked egg, mushroom ricotta, and shrimp skewers. Each dish was simplistic in the best way and packed with flavour. Everything tasted fresh and was served with enough time in between courses. We will absolutely be back !
Overall our experience as a group was so lovely. The atmosphere is welcoming, the staff (all of them) so attentive, kind, and punctual. It’s an experience worth having. Highly recommend. When looking at the menu it moves from light to heaviest as you go down the list. We were a group of three and ordered a total of 8 plates, and it was too much food. We all ordered drinks. I had the Mockingbird Mocktail. It was a 5/5. I really enjoyed it. Another ordered a Long Island, which they do different by making their own cola, which is more herbal. It’s really nice. And the last drink which was also really good was the Finale Word (similar to the Last Word on the menu but made with bourbon). Dinner items Bread Service: it was warm, fresh baked, and the butter was a nice touch. It was nice way to start the meal. Twice Cooked Egg: this was probably the best salad I’ve ever had. I highly recommend this salad. It was so lovely and my favorite dish of the whole meal. Smoked Fish Cakes: as someone who is not a huge fish fan these were made very well. Seasoned well and I like that they were not a heavy coated and deep fried cake. Fried Potato Salad: this was my least favorite menu item. I felt as though the flavors all together didn’t work great. It felt like a lot and a bit heavy. Pork Belly: this was an interesting take on spices and flavors. It was an overall interesting combination that works well. The pork belly itself was cooked very well. It was delicious. Goat Confit: I wish I had liked this more. The goat was fried and a bit too crispy for my liking. I might not order it again, but it was worth trying. Amish Chicken: The onion jam was a bit salty for me. The chicken itself was good well but heavily coated in spice. The spatzle was good. I honestly preferred that over the chicken itself. Sundried Spinach Fettuccine: I enjoyed this dish a lot. It was very spring from me. It was somewhat difficult to share because the pasta itself was hard to serve with a spoon. I would order it again.
Not very vegan friendly, though the modifications eventually made were tasty. When asked about plant-based options, we were offered only pasta with marinara and veggies which was very boring considering the much more interesting other menu items which seemed easily modifiable. What felt like a major negotiation followed with many trips (6?) back-and-forth to the kitchen by our very sympathetic waitress. “Yes, the beet salad *could* be made without the yogurt base and more greens and without the cheese… “ Ultimately, we really enjoyed the SWEET POTATO with delicata, beluga lentil, garlic tahini dressing, and almonds which was quite tasty without the feta or prosciutto. Both mocktails were delightful. I especially enjoyed the Mockingbird. And, I would not return as the hassle overshadowed the pricey experience - plus, it seemed our waitress “qued” the main dish wrong (her words) so although we were one of first to arrive, our food was very slow in coming (like an hour, and after all around who arrived later were eating)
