We recently had our baby shower in the larger private room of Grand Dukes. Everything went exceptionally well. The staff was very punctual and organized. They made the event run so smooth. The food was amazing and the guests all thought so too! I ordered several appetizers for our event and every single thing was over the top amazing! I am so pleased with my experience with the staff and the managers that helped me plan the party- Roberta and Margarita. They were both very quick to respond to my calls and emails. We will definitely consider hosting our future events at Grand Dukes! Thank you!
We recently celebrated a milestone birthday at this restaurant and had an absolutely wonderful experience—the space was warm and inviting, the service attentive, and the food truly delicious, creating a fantastic atmosphere for our event. The staff were incredibly helpful and accommodating throughout the planning and the evening itself, which made everything run smoothly. One gentle note for future guests: the portions were extremely generous, far more than our group could finish, so you may want to consider ordering less than you think you’ll need. Overall, it was a beautiful evening, and we’re very grateful for the welcoming and memorable celebration.
Very authentic, European food. Modern, clean establishment. Great employees. I love the pick 3 platter. And the sides were great. The applesauce was the best ever. Baked Pears 🍐 were warm and tender. A must stop Even banquet rooms. Bands as well on some nights.
That place is Da Bomb! The best Eastern European food I have had outside of Eastern Europe. Great selection of beers too, particularly Ukranian beer. Our Lithuanian hostess had the spiciest sense of humor and the kindest smile. Must try!
How wonderful it was to eat here. We had a variety of dishes, and all of them were superb.Everything tasted like it came from someone's kitchen in Old Country. The servers were just so nice. If I didn't live so far, I'd be eating here a lot more.
Every dish impressed with true, rich taste and lovely presentation. The setting felt warm and inviting, and our guests could not stop praising the overall dining experience.
The most delicious European food. There is always more than enough to eat, and the leftovers taste just as good the next day. The service is just as good as the food and the entire staff is so welcoming and kind.
I recently had a surprise 50th birthday celebration at Grand Duke's, and I could not have asked for a better experience! Our waitress, Zaneta, was absolutely wonderful—she made sure everything we needed was taken care of right away. The decorations were beautiful, and the food was simply incredible. Every dish was perfectly prepared and bursting with flavor. Not a single guest had anything less than glowing feedback—everything was truly perfect. I highly recommend Grand Duke's as an amazing venue for any celebration or party!
Went for Valentine's Day Dinner... Couldn't have been happier with the results! The service was wonderful, food was out of this world good, & the ambiance between the music & candle light & decor was fantastic.
Service was fantastic and helpful. The food was served hot and we had no trouble with anything. We waited around 30 minutes for the food to arrive, due to the fact a member of our party ordered a dish that needed to be properly cooked a little longer. The atmosphere was great overall.
“I recently hosted a private party at Grand Duke Restaurant, and everything was absolutely perfect! The staff went above and beyond to make the evening special—from the warm hospitality to the excellent service. The food was outstanding, full of authentic flavors, and beautifully presented. Our guests kept complimenting both the atmosphere and the menu. The team made planning stress-free and delivered an unforgettable event. Highly recommend Grand Duke for any special occasion!”
We recently celebrated a 40th birthday party at Grand Duke’s restaurant, and it could not have been a better choice. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed with warm hospitality and a perfectly inviting atmosphere. The décor was elegant yet cozy, creating the ideal setting for both celebration and conversation. The kitchen was truly outstanding. Every dish we tried was full of flavor, beautifully presented, and clearly prepared with care and authenticity. From appetizers to desserts, the quality and freshness stood out, and all of our guests were impressed. The staff deserve special recognition as well. They were attentive without being intrusive, making sure glasses were full, plates were cleared promptly, and every guest felt comfortable. Their professionalism and friendliness made the evening smooth and enjoyable. Overall, this restaurant exceeded all expectations. It was the perfect place to host a 40th birthday party, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for amazing food, excellent service, and a wonderful atmosphere.
Always wanted to try this place. Good food and big portions for the price. It’s Lithuanian, German and polish food. Got the German platter, 3 different types of sausage, potatoes, sauerkraut and peppers. The guy we had for the server was great, very attentive. They even brought out a dessert and I didn’t even mention we had a person with us celebrating their birthday. Definitely going back.
Wow, just WOW! Our waitress was absolutely phenomenal! She was attentive, friendly, and made sure our glasses were always full. The service was top-notch, and she had a great attitude! 5 stars isn't enough - I'd give her 10 stars if I could! 🍴👏😊
Excellent Lithuanian food and ambiance. Unfortunately had to exit out the back when Teutonic knights arrived
The food here is amazing! 🤌 We ordered summer borscht, Siberian pelmeni, and the wurst platter. The portions were quite large, so we ended up taking leftovers in a box. Will definitely come here again!
We just came back from this restaurant. We went for our annual holiday lunch tradition. Food was out of this world. There were a huge menu to choose from. We even had coffee and Honey cake which tasted just like my mom's cake and presentation was amazing. Our waitress deserves a raise. She was fast, very polite and knowledgeable. I don't remember her name but she said she was polish lady. You are Amazing. Cozy atmosphere and clean place, decorated for the holidays.
This was a return visit, and was even more enjoyable! The service was exceptional, even with us sitting outside. All our food was delicious! We ordered the bang bang shrimp appetizer, borscht soup, a Lithuanian sausage farmer's platter, spattzle, and Malibu salad. Highly recommend.
This place was amazing! The food was delicious. The servers were amazing. The atmosphere was great with great music! The only issue we had was our drinks were not always the same size. In the picture is an example. This happened w my drink and another friends drink. If Im paying the same price each time, my drink should certainly be in the same size glass each time. Our first ones were bigger than our next couple. His 4th? Was the same size as his 1st. It was very odd. We tried each other's food for the most part and the trout (which I've never had before) was delicious, the pork was okay, the tilapia was delicious and my pancakes were delicious! The pretzel balls, cheese curds and brussel sprouts were also phenomenal. We also tried so desserts and they were yummy, as well!! We were there for several hours just having a fantastic time.
Decor is Stunning, Food is Amazing, Lunch Speciala are Great! Thank you Carolina for being a wonderful server!
We love grand dukes!! Great food and great people. they catered our wedding too and our guests can’t stop raving about the food!!! great taste of home 🤍
Boris provided outstanding service on Mother’s Day, making our experiencea 10/10. We sat outside and he was sure to frequently check on us which was awesome, despite the busy holiday crowd. He gave us some really great recommendations as it was my mom’s first time being there. His friendly demeanor and witty comments made our dinner better than it already was. We’ll definitely be requesting Boris the next time we visit!
No wait and incredible food. Some unique dishes such as the duck covered potato pancakes. I ordered the scnitzel platter and it was delicious. Very hard to find a place that serves veal, and theirs was incredible. Also ordered the café mocha which was very sweet and creamy. Definitely going to be coming back here
Excellent experience! The staff was smiling at all times and super welcoming and friendly. That night we went had live entertainment which was great to hear. The food was fantastic and we all tried several items to truly get the experience. I highly recommend checking this restaurant out. They also have an attached banquet hall for events and weddings.
This Lithuanian restaurant is absolutely delicious! It’s a great chance to try foods from all over Europe (I got Georgian lamb stew, for example). Everything we ordered was so good! The drink selection (alcoholic and nonalcoholic) was fantastic as well!
Grand Dukes is a fantastic restaurant serving home style Lithuanian American comfort food. The menu has many, many choices that are all delicious - including appetizers, soups, dinners, desserts, drinks from the bar, beers, vodkas, specialty drinks and more. Check the online menu out. Below are the photos of our orders. For appetizer we tried pretzels bites with mustard sauce that had a dry wine flavor and cheese dip, also garlic breadsticks smothered with a smoky imported tasting cheese which is crispy like a crouton (not soft) and good - the cheese poured on top gives it a softness. For dinners we had Jaeger Schnitzle (they have many different types of Schnitzle to choose from) with mushroom gravy and cucumber and tomato salad, Sausage Platter with potatoes, sauerkraut, salad, mustard and horseradish sauces, Bavarian Combo Sampler of cabbage roll, Schnitzle, sausage, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes and potato pancakes with applesauce. All very good. #GrandDukes #GrandDukesDownersGrove #SausagePlatter #Schnitzle #BavarianSampler #Bavarian #LithaunianFood
The best Bavarian restaurant in Chicago area! Great good, beautiful place and amazing service! Will definatelly be back!
I am Lithuanian. Had never had Lithuanian food before. Got the Lithuanian combo. It was SO GOOD. not sure what I’m supposed to compare it to, but I’m a believer. Felt like I was at home. Service was great. Food was hot. Beet soup was cold. Dessert was amazing. Server made it fun and personable Kamela? Can’t wait to go back.
Beautiful restaurant, big portions and a tasty cuisine. The Lithuanian plate is my favorite, sampling flavorful dishes. The weiner schnitzel sandwich was very salty but the dessert made up for it. Staff was very friendly and had a great atmosphere.
First time here and was very impressed! Our server was fantastic, knowledgeable and friendly. The beet soup is AMAZING!!! I had the pork schnitzel and it was tender and delicious. Portions were very generous! I wish we had a restaurant like this in my town in Michigan!! Highly recommend!!!
I love the extensive menu here. So many options! Great food, great dessert. Our server, Daniela, was very nice and attentive.
For a second consecutive year I have met with Roberta and her staff to plan our organization’s yearly dinner and awards ceremony. Once again, this year’s event went exceptionally well. The staff was extremely accommodating throughout the planning and during the event itself. Our dinner once again was outstanding, full of flavor and the presentation was superb. Our guests continually complimented both the room’s atmosphere and excellent food. Grand Duke restaurant once again exceeded all expectations. I would highly recommend Grand Duke's for your next dinner place or celebration. Sal C
We celebrated our baby boy’s baptism this weekend in the banquet room. Everything from the food to the service was absolutely wonderful! Delicious and served promptly. Many compliments from us and our guests! The staff and managers were highly attentive and our event went smoothly. Roberta and Margarita were great to work with. I was extremely pleased with our experience!
We usually get the lunch specials as carryout. The food has been hot and fresh and delicious. We love the unique menu … especially the kugelis and schnitzel and salads. The folks at the front of the restaurant are always cheerful, helpful, and delightful.
We’ve used catering from Grand Dukes Restaurant a couple of times, and the food has been absolutely outstanding every single time. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. You can truly tell there’s pride in both the quality and presentation of the dishes. Portions were generous, and every bite was delicious.
Went for funeral luncheon and happy they picked this great polish place. The perigios where very tasty but I perfect mine fried in butter. The mushrooms and chicken was plentiful and not dried out. The service was probably the best I ever had. They made sure you where happy and catered to your every need. Very impressed and will definitely be back. The pastries looked so yummy however I didn't have any...No room THIS TIME!
Great restaurant. My wife and I really liked it. Big menu with something for everyone. Lots of European beer choices. I had Jaeger schnitzel which was good. My favorite was the liver dumpling soup. My wife loved her sourkraut soup. She said she would go just for that. Definitely a good to place for me.
Went for a nice dinner with friends. The food was amazing, fried bread, zeppelin and schnitzel were all phenomenal. Drinks were great, and our server David was fantastic! He had so much input on menu choices, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Will definitely be back soon!
Everything about the Grand Duke is exceptional. The food is simply out of this world from its preparation to its savory scrumptious flavors. Our waiter was wonderful, super attentive, and genuinely friendly and nice. Honestly, this is one of the best restaurant experiences our family has had in a really long time.
I hosted a family luncheon here today for 30, the food and service was excellent. great food delivery timelines as well, for a large a group as had. We were in a private room, we were able bring in our own musicians, and had a great experience.
The server was well meaning but forgetful. The pelmeni were delicious as was the salad trio. Both the duck and the schnitzel tasted good but as if they were cooked aggressively- tough to cut and chew. The Manhattan was not well balanced. Despite all this- we will be back for the pelmeni. They were fabulous!
We had a great experience at this restaurant, we came in and the two young ladies at the front end were able to help and assist us greatly, we were treated with such kindness and respect. We order take out , can’t wait to tried their cooking.
Very large menu with lots of pictures. We tried the Lithuanian fried cheese bread, and it was just ok. We ordered the pierogi combo, and they were all delicious. He ordered the Polish combo and enjoyed it. I tried "the make your own combo" with potato pancakes, chicken schnitzel, and pierogis with potato spatzle. The potato pancakes were good, and their applesauce is very good. The chicken schnitzel was way too thick. I didn't enjoy it. The spatzle had no pierogi. I mixed it with his sauerkraut and it was good. This combo also came with mashed potatoes and a very delicious mushroom gravy. The restaurant was not crowded on a Sunday afternoon. Service was good and the prices are on the higher side but the food is homemade and the portions are a good size. We had plenty of leftovers.
My friend and I was there celebrating a friends birthday. The waitress was very courteous and gave my friend birthday ice cream were we got to sing Happy Birthday he loved it. The schnitzel was delicious, the roasted brussel sprouts were amazing. They had live music that was very pleasant and I saw a proposal for the first time at a restaurant.
Grand Duke's in Downers Grove is a must-try for anyone craving authentic Eastern European comfort food! Every dish we had was bursting with flavor – it felt like a warm hug from a Lithuanian grandmother. The menu is HUGE, almost to the point of being overwhelming, but don't worry, the friendly staff can help you navigate the many delicious options. And don't forget the cocktails! They were expertly mixed and the perfect complement to our meal. We can't wait to go back and explore more of that amazing menu!
Okay so I will do my review fast and easy, my lacking of stars is based on the food that I tasted and not a reflection of the entire menu and I would still say to give the place a try. Service was a 10, servers were really friendly and attentive and we loved that! the atmosphere inside is a 10 as well, like you wouldn't expect for a restaurant to look like that inside just by looking at it from the outside. Okay let's go to the food that we ordered, calamari was a 10, it seemed fresh and the texture was perfect, I think I'll come back for mainly that. Roasted duck ( quarter ) was good on the outside, the skin was crunchy but it was dry and the sides I just didn't care for the sour stewed cabbage, the ribs for me was dry as well drizzled in sauce I didn't like it, it was flaky. The burger was huge, good size but the patty was then again dry and overcooked, thick cut fries that's not really that big of a deal. All in all it was fine, but do check them out, there's a lot on the menu! They have outside seating as well.
It took awhile before being seated. Once we informed the host that we had a reservation, she seemed very shocked and nervous! The waitress also came to our table nervous and stuttered when asking what we would like to drink! We thought about walking away from the table but decided to stay. We ordered (2) soups: The Beet Borscht Stew and Wild Mushroom & Barley Soup. The Wild Mushroom was just okay but the Beet Borscht and the sour cream was a hit! Stuffed Cabbage was also delightfully tender and savory, topped with an awesome sauce! In the "Build your own Combo", The Chicken Schnitzel was okay but nothing special. The Zeppelin's sausage was good but the doughy covering was too thick for me and not very tasteful. Potato Pancakes were light, fluffy, and delicious! Surprise! The best of the day, was the "Mashed Potatoes!" The potatoes were so tasteful and smooth, that they didn't need any other seasoning and all of the sauces were awesome! After some time went by the waitresses seemed to warm-up but the hostess didn't even say, Goodbye" nor "Thank you for dining with us!" Note: My wife noticed that quite a few patrons were constantly gawking at us, while we were eating! It doesn't seem as if this establishment is familiar with melinated people dining within the restaurant or just a bad service day!
We were really excited to come and celebrate my mom’s birthday here, and we were especially excited about the food. There were six dishes, and no one really enjoyed their food. One plate was cold, another was undercooked, and others felt old. It was cold sitting by the window. While the food is affordable, you can tell why the quality is not there. While our server was nice, it was hard to track him down most of the time. I do not recommend it and will not be returning.
I am extremely disappointed. I ordered for to go 2 x schnitzel combo meals, in the description says pork schnitzel, chicken schnitzel and veal schnitzel. In one plate I received 1 chicken schnitzel and in the other I received 1 pork schnitzel that couldn't even be eaten, it was raw inside. Where is the combo?? I've been here a couple of years before and the food was bad, I thought I had a one time bad experience but apparently, that's just how they are.
Food was mediocre at best - not worth the high price point. Service was terribly slow - took nearly an hour to get our food. Auto gratuity of 21% was egregious, and a 3%cc fee on top of that! I paid cash to avoid that fee, and they did not bring back my change. Not going back here.
