Seriously good food. The Glazed Pork Ribs’ meat just slid off of the bone…
Love it! Taste and service was exceptional. Everything we ordered was delicious. We ordered lamb chops, cod, ube martini, sake and some veggie fried platter. Will be a repeat customer. Highly Recommend!
This restaurant is a great place to celebrate a special occasion or just to go with friends if you’re feeling something fancy. The food is delish, the service was great, and the atmosphere is also perfect! We were happy to have been able to get some chicken and beef that were halal! The calamari and sushi was also great, the scallop sushi melts in your mouth!! Our drinks were also really good, would 100% return here for the food and nice experience
Very nice time spent here for lunch with friends. Excellent food and service.
We tried the omakase experience where the chef selects options for us try. We liked everything! Our server was great. A few of the sashimi pieces had no flavor but otherwise enjoyed. Great place to get a nice dinner for date night or a special ocassion
Really enjoyed our first time. Could use more waitstaff. While our waiter was good and informative. He was very busy. The dumplings and sushi were wonderful. Our steak was under cook to our liking but we ate it. Bother the Brussel sprouts and potatoes were good too. Dessert for two was amazing. We will be back!
With so many options in the area, I've been wanting to dine at Roka for a while and it definitely did not disappoint! Arrival was during Happy Hour and we dined from the dinner menu. Coctails, side car and blood orange margarita, were on point and refreshing. It's really a 5 ✨️ experience just go light on the salty soy sauces 😋 We ordered the wagyu beef and kimchi dumplings, dragon roll and crispy prawn roll. Enjoy!
I've been to Roka four or five times over the last 2 years. I tell everybody You're not going out to eat You're going out for a dining experience. The manager Kelsey and our server Matt go above and beyond every time I'm there. I actually proposed to my fiance on New Year's Eve and they were above and beyond accommodating! Yes it is a little expensive but the food is excellent, The ambience is excellent and the service is excellent. I never leave that establishment feeling unsatisfied. It is definitely my favorite "fancy upscale restaurant" of all time. I just want to thank the management and the staff for the great experiences I've had there.
One of the best meals of my life! Went here for date night and the food was top notch, grade A, the real McCoy!!! Fresh sushi, melt in your mouth sea bass, excellent sushi. All picks recommended by our very attentive bartender, Marissa 🙂 She made us feel like home and we will definitely be back!
Loved everything about this restaurant. The non alcohol drinks were a perfect match for the spice of the food! We sat out on the "porch" where it was a bit quieter. The gratis Champagne toast was a perfect start to the meal. The Snake River sirloin was so tender! We were a party of four and all our entrees were delicious.
Roka Akor exceeded expectations. Once a year we try to travel with friends to new restaurants we find thru restaurant week. This could be our favorite yet. Their 2 course selection with drink pairings was excellent 👌. Some item highlights for me was the wagu beef dumplings, sushimi, & lamb that our server said was his favorite on the full menu. Rich the GM runs a smooth operation, it is a rare art to find service not bother you about how the meal is or checking in unnecessarily yet be able to swoop in and collect dishes to progress thru the parts of the dinner in just the right times. 6 of us had nothing but great things to say & I would recommend the location for any occasion. Thank you for the experience.
This place is fantastic. Atmosphere is really cool, our waiter was fun and friendly, and the food was out of this world. My only complaint is the $7 diet cokes (no free refills), that's a bit ridiculous.
This is was my second time here, absolutely loved the food. It is a little pricey but worth it . Food is really good and presentation was beautiful. Really good service and pretty cozy place , I like those dim lights inside of restaurant. Over all loved it and yes definitely will be coming back for more.
Absolutely amazing dinner! Pauley was such a great help in deciding what to order. Gabe the best recommendations of hot plates, Sashimi and sake. Definitely made my husband's birthday one to remember! Will definitely be coming back soon!
We went to Roka Akor in Oakbrook, Illinois to celebrate my sister’s birthday, and honestly, everything was incredible from start to finish. The restaurant is a Japanese steakhouse, and we decided to order a little bit of everything. Every single dish was outstanding. For appetizers, we had the wagyu dumplings, perfectly seasoned and juicy. We also got the Japanese fried chicken, served with an exquisite sauce, and the pork belly, which came with a super flavorful sauce. We tried the tuna tartare with taro chips, which was one of my favorites, super fresh and delicious. We ordered two rolls, the dynamite roll and the scallop roll, both made with the freshest ingredients and amazing texture. You can really taste the quality and attention to detail in everything they serve. For dessert, we had the chef’s selection sampler, which you can order based on the number of people at your table. We got one for two people, and it was more than enough for the four of us. It came with a variety of desserts, including an incredible coconut and lime sorbet that was so refreshing. My sister also received a complimentary ice cream for her birthday, which was such a thoughtful touch. The service was outstanding. Our server Lee went above and beyond, extremely friendly and attentive, and even sang happy birthday to my sister. We were also helped by Javier, Noé, and Cristian, who were all wonderful. They spoke Spanish too, which made us feel even more comfortable and welcomed. Overall, it was a 10 out of 10 experience. The food, the service, and the atmosphere were all perfect. Whether you are celebrating a special occasion or simply want to enjoy an amazing Japanese steakhouse experience, Roka Akor is absolutely worth visiting. Next time, I definitely want to try their Omakase menu, it looked incredible.
Nice ambiance. Variations of sushi. Well flavored meat. I ordered the potstickers miso soup, beef skewer, salmon roll, and lobster roll. Everything was fresh. My favs were the skewer and potstickers.
Everything was good from greeting to the food ! Went for restaurant week and I love it the soup was different and good Steak corn and 🫛 was great It was my birthday i got complimentary champagne and cake it was good and they also sung happy birthday Staff was great!
First time visiting this spot and was very impressed. I need to go back for those wagu dumplings and sweet potatoes! 🔥 Their happy hour menu is well crafted and they pair the perfect drinks to go with your meal. Great service and hospitality!!!
Roka Akor in Oak Brook, truly exceeded our expectations! From the moment we walked in, the warm welcome from the family-oriented staff set a positive tone for the evening. Although we had a reservation for two, we brought along an unexpected plus one—a lively 8-year-old. The host was incredibly accommodating, seating us right away without any hassle. Our waiter was prompt and friendly, offering fantastic recommendations that made our dining experience even better. We started with the Waitlist and Yashi cocktails, both of which were delightful. For appetizers, we went for the Japanese fried chicken, and it was crispy and flavorful—definitely a must-try! For our mains, we opted for the teriyaki salmon, steak, and California rolls. Each dish was made to order and showcased the freshness of the ingredients, leaving us thoroughly impressed. The highlight, of course, was the warm chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream—an indulgent ending to a perfect meal. We left Roka Akor completely satisfied, with no leftovers in sight! Everything about our visit—service, food, and ambience—was a solid 10/10. Honestly, there aren’t enough stars to capture the brilliance of our experience. Highly recommend it for anyone looking for an outstanding dining adventure!
We loved our waiter Juan. He was super knowledgeable and timed each course well. It was like he could read our mind we would look and he would be there ready to answer any questions we would ask. Food was incredible, my group enjoyed every part of the meal. This was our second visit and we will continue to come back.
Food was delicious and our waiter was very kind, attentive and helpful.
Came to celebrate my birthday and Lee our server made it the best experience ever! So helpful, informative and Joyful . The food was so delicious, drinks, amazing dessert, scrumptious!
Absolutely stunning ambience and delicious food choices! We went there for Valentine's Day and took a chance to sit at the full service bar area since all the reservations were booked. Thankfully we only waited about 20 minutes and were able to get bar seating. If there are open seats at the bar, it's fair game. We couldn't be happier. Great service and drinks. This is higher end, so be prepared to spend $$$. But well worth it in the end. I'd recommend this for date nights, special occasions and professional lunch meetings. This is our second time. The lamp chops are my favorite. My wife loved the bone marrow. The brussel sprouts were on the burnt and salty side. It was hard to eat. That's my only critique.
Delicious! Their lamb chops keep me coming back every time!
Truly amazing and wonderful! This place took care of us, 31 people all with different allergies and different tastes. The waiters were amazing! Food is some of the best I've ever had. Thank you!!
We had a wonderful time; the food was truly excellent. While there were many options, our waitress expertly guided us through the menu, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I highly recommend this place to anyone who appreciates sushi.
This is absolutely a one of a kind experience! My mother and I did the “Decadent Omakase” as it was our first visit. Lee, our waiter was amazing. All of the staff that helped us were so informative and kind! The flavor in each selection was beyond this world. It was pricey but worth every single penny. I have never had a better experience in my life. The Omakase was EIGHT COURSES. Every one being perfectly curated. I cannot wait to go back.
Service here was incredible. Leah at the front had an amazing bubbly personality and got us sat as soon as we came in. Juan greeted us with an incredible personality. Perfectly attentive. Service from Leah and Juan is 100% recommend and will keep us coming back, thank you for a such wonderful evening!
Absolutely loved having lunch here! The service was great and the food was fantastic! I had the Charishi lunch special, whatever sauce they put over the fish was so tangy, with fresh citrus and just a hint of spice! Their soup and salad were good, but the edamame had a bit of butter, it elevated the flavor. Our waiter was so nice and I couldn’t finish the portion, definitely going to be back!
Have been here a handful of times. Easily one of my favorite restaurants. Service is excellent even on a busy Saturday night. Wagyu, filet, sushi, tempura, beet salad, tuna tartar, salmon, all exceptionally prepared. And the cocktails? Amazing! Ambiance is energetic & moody with colored lighting. Perfect for a celebration or date night or girls night! It can get loud when it's busy so it can be hard to have a conversation, fyi.
I wasn't expecting it to be this amazing good. I honestly thought I was going to a restaurant that I previously went when I was young. This restaurant is amazing the sushi, drinks, sides, beef, all of it was great. It was for my wife's birthday and she couldn't believe how good it is here. Its a little pricey but definitely worth it.
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary here and we had an outstanding dining experience. Our server, Matt, was phenomenal—his recommendations were spot-on, and his service was truly superb. The entire staff was attentive and welcoming, making us feel well cared for throughout the evening. One staff member even prepared a special salsa for us, which was simply fantastic and paired beautifully with the other sauces provided. From start to finish, everything exceeded expectations. This place is a must-try—you will not be disappointed.
The atmosphere here is more upscale but cozy. I loved the cocktails and the sushi is so fresh. I especially loved their espresso martini. The service was also quick! Our waiter was knowledgeable and funny. I’d definitely come back!
I have visited this location plenty of times. The food is always consistent and fresh. Every time we dine in we have a great experience. I absolutely love the wagyu beef dumplings and the crispy squid!
When I come to Oakbrook for a weekend of dining and shopping, Roka is still one my favorite establishments. Consistent staff and the food is just so amazing. Our group of 4 girls had the best time and ordered the Omakase, a bottle of wine and oysters. We were out celebrating years of friendship. What a great time! The food didn't disappoint and the service was impeccable. Thank you so much for the wonderful night!
Leah was amazing with getting me and my family a table for my brother in laws birthday! Absolutely a doll at the door. Juan was an outstanding server with amazing service. He got us exactly what we wanted and everything came out in perfect timing. Super attentive and such a humorous personality. I will always be requesting Juan from now on and you should too.
My expectations of this place were blown out of the water!! Everything was absolutely perfect. We enjoyed the restaurant week menu and were impressed by every single item. Our server Julian must have a Master's degree in Roka Akur- he knew the menu like the back of his hand and gave us the best recommendations. He was kind and professional and really made this experience an 11/10.
To be honest, I was a little shocked by this place’s experience. The food was not what I would expect from an expensive sushi restaurant. While there is tons of creativity in some of the items on the menu, the flavors are just a little underwhelming. The waiter did a fantastic job of explaining what they have and what rolls pair well with what sauce. I’m glad I got to have this experience and try multiple different, new, and intriguing items, but I don’t think the cost matches the food quality or the experience.
The food is delicious mostly. We found the robata grilled pork belly chewy and sort of just unremarkable..but the scallop maki and vanilla ice cream are very delicious. Overall with tip our bill was around 200 bucks. We did a la carte ordering and had a couple of drinks. Very nice atmosphere for a date night just be ready to spend some bucks. A reservation is a good idea
Everything was good but the scallops were salty and the fish in the chirashi wasn't very good quality. There were tough bits of the fish that weren't cut off. Overall I enjoyed the restaurant although a little pricey for quantity and quality.
Great restaurant with good food and service — we have a good time every time we come here. The only downside is that it gets really loud inside, so you’ve got to talk over the noise just to be heard.
Loud at lunch hour with background music Cod, lamb chops and shishito peppers are always good Signature maki roll quality has gone down...more rice, less fish Sashimi platter was good and fresh, but portions were like slivers of fish. Ube and specialcheesecake weregreat.
Dined at this place for Restaurant Week 2026. Our waiter (Victor, I think) was great. The chefs know what to do in a kitchen at Roka Akor. A 3 course meal just got better & better with each course. The appetizers included 3 items that were nice. Main course…I had a white fish with fingerling potatoes that was seasoned & cooked perfectly! The chocolate molten cake was the best I’ve ever had! It was not too sweet, topped with ice cream, caramel sauce & crispy chocolate pearls…chef’s kiss 💯. I can’t wait to go back to try more dishes❗️I was so inspired I came home, went to YouTube to learn how to use chopsticks 🥢 for the first time in my life ☺️
Delicious cocktails and food. The Wagyu Beef and Kimchi Dumplings were amazing! Everything we ate was perfectly prepared and very flavorful. However, there were three things that bothered me about my experience: 1. They “weren’t able” to split an appetizer cost between two checks. 2. It was both my and my friend’s birthday, and they were aware of that (and did wish us both a Happy Birthday,), but there was no special item. (Well, we did pay $36 for the dessert tray, and they did put a couple of candles in that…but there was no discount or anything.) 3. When we left, there were two hostesses up front who did not wish us a good evening or thank us for coming. These three items may seem petty to some, but when I pay $170 for a meal, my standards are set pretty high and the experience should be exceptional on all fronts.
Food was great, we had sushi, steak and the lamb chops which were all delicious. The atmosphere was also good. We went there for anniversary dinner and had a reservation since 2 weeks. The restaurant called me a day early to change the appointment half hour early as they wanted to close kitchen early but gave me no heads up. I agreed to the time change went early but the receptionist girl still kept saying you have 5 minutes until the kitchen closes which made me feel very unwelcome that she was rushing us the minute we walked in the door. Whatever the case was, the staff should be respectful of customers and make them feel welcomed. All the other staff and waiters were super friendly.
We got off to a bad start by arriving 20 minutes early for our reservation. Even though there was nobody waiting at the reception desk, and they clearly had tables available, we were made to wait because they were "still checking in people with earlier reservations" . There was nobody waiting... When we did get seated, our server, Kelsey, was about as down to earth as they come and we had a really good rapport. The food was disappointing, with the overwhelming taste on the steaks being charred grill no matter what the actual meat was. No point pushing the boat out for Wagyu here (as I learnt to my expense!)! For some reason my son's four pieces of sashimi took longer to come than my medium steak and two courses of my wife's tasting menu. On the bright side, the cocktails were lovely but we won't be returning - there are simply better options in the area.
It makes me very sad to have to write this; but I can't express something that isn't real. Last night they ruined my sister's birthday, we chose Roka Akor to celebrate because of the good reviews, we didn't even know about it and upon reading the gastronomic description we didn't hesitate to book. We reserved our table three days in advance for yesterday, Friday the 7th at 8:00pm, we arrived at 7:58pm. The entrance was packed with people, they told us that we had to wait, the only space available was the hallway to go to the bathroom, which I thought was terrible because all the people were bumping into us at every moment. We stood there for 20 minutes, my 8 year old son had to sit on the floor. Then they moved us to a table at the bar to supposedly WAIT, but it turns out that wasn't the case since the waitress in that area asked us to order because that was where they were going to leave us. I didn't mean to be rude, but it seemed to me that everything was a joke, I got upset and asked how it was possible to have an 8 year old child sitting at the bar when he was supposed to have had a reservation for a table inside the restaurant for 3 days. 45 minutes had already passed since I arrived at the place with my family. The manager's response was the stupidest I could receive; "Well, on that side there is also noise and drinks for adults." Sir, what's wrong with you? Is this really a response from a MANAGER? I don't believe it. There was a lot of movement until FINALLY, after having ruined the night, they moved us to a decent table in the restaurant. At 9:00pm we were finally able to order to eat, I give my 5 stars to the waiters and the food. But the service, attention and ability to solve a problem was totally 0 for me. Honestly, after this bad experience I will not return again, the situation was quite humiliating.
Had the tuna flight sashimi. It was 8 small pieces. Four of which were fishy…Unacceptable. My wife had the bass which was about 3-4 oz max. Good sauce and nicely presented. Also had the 5 sashimi selection (15 pieces) which tasted ok. We took our chances trying this restaurant. Don’t come here for raw fish or seafood. It is definitely overpriced. The bill for three dishes and a small appetizer came to just under 200. I came away hungry and with an upset stomach. Not recommended and definitely will not be back.
TL;DR: Roka Akor does not live up to the price. I ordered the blackened cod with a side of maitake mushrooms. Whole thing came out to $62. This would've been OK if it was worth it, which it was not. The cod portion was so so tiny for $45 and was nothing special. Literally just cod that someone probably took a torch to. The sauce was tasty, but there wasn't enough of it for the whole piece of cod, and still, cod is an inexpensive fish so that sauce must've had flakes of gold in it 😂 The mushrooms were way overcooked as well. They had more of a crispy bread texture instead of soft and chewy like mushrooms should be. As with the cod, the portion size on the mushrooms was very small as well. The presentation of everything was nice, I'll give them that, but I left there hungry and disappointed. I won't be back.
If I could leave 0 stars I would. I went to this restaurant Sunday night and I felt incredibly disrespected and dismissed. I spent $880 including the gift cards and my meal. The first thing that set me off was a comment made by the busboy asking if I was “Soviet”. This completely ruined my dining experience as I was looking forward to a fun night but felt profiled upon sitting down. The question was entirely inappropriate and made me feel awkward. The same busboy also peeked at my phone and made another weird comment about me using military time. I don’t mind small conversation but invasive comments just kept coming up and I was becoming more and more uncomfortable. The second thing was misinformation upon buying gift cards. They are doing a promotion in which you receive $25 (valid January 3rd) when you buy an $100 gift card (which you are allowed to use anytime). When I asked the hostess if I could use the $100 towards my meal, she told me I couldn’t which at the time was fine. After visiting the Chicago location two days later, I was informed that I could use the $100 the second I bought it. I don’t understand why the hostess lied and told me otherwise or why she was uneducated. The whole experience was horrible and so not worth it especially for the price I paid for this “fine dining experience”. The store manager Carlos was also belittling over the phone, even scoffing at me. After visiting the Chicago location, the difference was night and day. Their management was so welcoming and warm compared to Oakbrook. I am never coming here again and I encourage everyone else to try their Chicago location instead.
