El Cotixan Taco Shop

For years I've visited El Cajon every couple of months and this place has become an absolute must every time I'm here. They have the single best carne asada burrito in San Diego county, and their rolled potato tacos are awesome. Gringos be warned, their salsa is on the extreme end of white-people-spicy.

Seriously why isn't this the most visited taco shop in San Diego? I will put up their breakfast burrito with sausage against any burrito in this state! Their salsa is amazing! I just learned that they are coming up on their 25 year anniversary at the same spot. Great people.

These guys alone put 90%+ “mexican” restaurants to shame. If you’re looking for authenticity, flavor, and good service. You’ve come to the right place. And if the food is too “spicy” or “savory” you then you can please take your opinion elsewhere. Don’t change Cotixan 👍

Family owned, nice people good portion to dollar ratio for today's prices. I usually buy the enchiladas with rice and beans. I've been eating there for year's. And I eat well.

My husband showed me this place and now I only get my Mexican food from here. The people are great and the food is greater! The pricing is very reasonable and the portions are worth every penny. I love it here and highly recommend it 🤍

Best place since the 90’s. We have moved around states, but everyone we fly in to SD we make the drive with multiple orders to go. We love, love carne asada burritos, California burritos, shredded beef nachos, carne asada fries and asada nachos, taquitos, and our large Jamaicas. Not to mention our favorite salsas. Know the very nice, kind, and funny gentlemen that work their. Since we were young, they don’t know us personally, but we like family when there have conversations. Come check them out!

Driving back to Tucson, we stopped in and had a delicious breakfast burrito. When the cook put the tortilla on the flat skillet, my husband was amazed and asked, “Is that an umbrella or a tortilla?!” Then we tasted the burrito. Oh my gosh! The tortilla was so soft and fresh. I’ve never tasted anything so yummy. Then the refried beans were to die for. They staff were friendly and the restaurant and bathroom were very clean. We will stop by there again when we are in the area.

Marco & Paco are awesome and super fast. Best steak breakfast burrito and they use natural lard in their fryer which is way healthier and tastes better than cheaper canola and palm oils like some other places

The shredded chicken enchiladas are excellent, the only better is Taco Fiesta on Mission Gorge & Vandever St. A very close 2nd and the place has good prices and large portions.

Loved the rolled tacos here.. just got them 10 minutes ago and I ate all 6! I attached the picture.. they give a lot of toppings, like cheese, guac, and sour cream... Best rolled tacos I've had so far... (Compared to Alberto's, Ponchos, Albert's, Lucha Libre Mexican, and Pancho's.) El Cotixan beats all of them in the rolled tacos business. You can tell it's not frozen.. it's made fresh.. theres no need for salsa, I highly recommend the (6) rolled tacos.

I decided to try this shop again and it has definitely been elevated. I like the signage in the window that they added and I love that they kept the original paintings on the inside. Those have always been a special part to this building no matter the changes. I ordered two breakfast burritos, bacon with beans, one with guac, one with sour cream and two small horchatas. The burritos were $10 and change each and it was about $30 total with tax. The mild green hot sauce is very good. The breakfast burritos were amazing! From the first to last bite. The guacamole was super fresh and had cilantro, no longer bright green like it was 4 years ago. The cook and the register person had great customer service skills. I especially enjoyed listening to the male cook sing while he cooked. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!

People here have great attitude. Cook is cracking jokes as soon as you walk in. Carne asada fries where amazing and the portion was enough to feed one person and then some. Prices are also affordable. 15$ for carne asada fries is reasonable considering my the portion. Way better than Tapatíos who charged me 20$ for the same. Definitely recommend El Cotixan. Green salsa is mild and red is a little spicier. Great experience overall!

Best taco shop for over 30 years

Was really good. Was in the area and decided to give it a try based on it's Yelp reviews... We were not disappointed! Got the #15 special which comes with a carne asada burrito and the roll tacos and everything was pretty good. Red salsa also deserves a mention!

Good service, good food and they are very generous with their carrots and salsa. I just wish the cook would put gloves on while cooking.

This is a great local family owned restaurant!! The dining area is small (more of a taco shop vibe). They can only seat 16 and have 4 booths that fit 4 adults. The restaurant is always clean. We are obsessed with the creamy "American guac" but the traditional guacamole is also great!

This is standard average taco shop. It's clean, not the most modern, and has a decent menu. Staff is nice and the food came out quick. I only got a breakfast burrito, which has eggs, beans, and cheese. It was served very hot, to the point where you can't eat it immediately. Portion was fine and can fill you. The salsas were okay, the green one was pretty garlic inspired.

Its ok, had the surf and turf burrito, was expecting beef and shrimp with some grilled onions and peppers rice and beans, I got some of that but with cheddar cheese. Not my thing thing to put cheese on it but i guess. Could be better

Huge portions but the quality is just not there

California burrito was alright. Why was there beans in a California burrito? I've never had a Cali burrito with beans. It didn't even have cheese or sour cream inside. The carne asada wasn't fresh. It had no taste to it. Partly dry. I don't think I'm gonna come here again. Santanas on Main Street is way better.

Sorry but we received horrible service, & rude workers. Food was either absolutely flavorless & bland or way too salty. Salsa was wayyy too spicy the times I’ve been there. To the point you don’t even taste anything out of the salsa except for the spice. Took forever to make 3 rolled tacos & a burrito & literally saw them as they dumped frozen fries & frozen pre-rolled tacos into the fryer and charged us pretty generously. Should’ve just eaten taquitos at home if I wanted that. I came here because potato rolled tacos are always so good at most places but let me tell you not only were they from a frozen bag, they had NO toppings on it. this place has great reviews I never thought we would have such a awful experience but they really let us down.

First time here. I ordered rolled tacos with no tomato and they put some tomato on it. The guacamole is CREAMY guacamole. The “beef” rolled tacos are full filled with beef, tomato , onions, and i don’t know what else. I totally wasn’t expecting this. Not for me. It my personal opinion.

Horrible service. I go every week and get salsa. Today I went again before work. I bought chips and I always get cups of salsa. The "Owner" gray haired guy says I can't have salsa without paying for it. I told him I always get salsa and chips every week. He then yells and stomps over to me...takes my chips from me and I order my money back. He's the rudest guy I've met in there by far. I will never go again. He said I had to buy salsa. Never had to buy salsa a day in my life. They have cups and a salsa stand for you to grab from. He's a scam artist and prolly more then that. I'm going to share with the community my bad service. I'll never go there again. Rude and outrageous.

I ordered a burrito the guy making the food is not wearing gloves. I also asked if I can have hot sauce that was pre-made because the salsa they have is not covered and flies was on it and he refused to give me one out of the fridge. I noticed his hands was filthy. I left when I got the food and threw it in the trash outside. Never going there again.

Don’t eat here they are dirty and will most likely give you food poisoning. Not even 15 minutes after eating my burrito I was already on the toilet. It made me very sick for 10 days+
