I enjoyed my time here! I read a couple of the bad reviews and I could not relate! The bartenders were helpful, it was my first time here and they recommended some fabulous beverages! The staff was very friendly and I will be returning again!

I have been frequenting Pounders for about 22 years. It used to be a dive. However Steve and his sister Lindsey have changed it into great place. They did a lot of renovating. It looks nice inside. There are five large flatscreen TV's along the bar. The drinks are strong and reasonably priced. Live music on Friday and Saturday nights. On any given night, there is stiff competition on two pool tables. I love this place! Check it out.

Honestly don’t get all the bad reviews, sound like a bunch of babies whining haha. Went to this bar last weekend on a Friday and it was poppin (mind you it was only 6pm ha!) Staff was friendly, bartender was kind, beer was ice cold, loud as hell but it’s a bar. Overall super chill place.

Sunday Karaoke was fun. Diverse group of singers and very up beat KJ that did well and picked up on cues from the singer to increase volume on the mic or decrease music playback volume. She was great. Friendly bartenders and good drinks.

A great local dive bar that has sports and 2 decent pool tables. The jukebox certainly gets the job done with the vast array of music genres on it. The bartenders are polite and professional. Whenever Im in escondido...I stop by there and beat up on Pain. Yes. Pain.

Escondido local chiming in here, lol obviously the entitled people expecting so much are saying too much. Family owned, they love the locals, I will always support them. Drinks are priced amazing and they have pool tables. What more do you want.

It's a nice local pub at Escondido. Music is good. There is a juke box, and from 9pm the dj or band depending on a day of the week, takes over. Decent prices, and wide selection of drinks. It is a place you can hold conversation. Not noisy as some bars round.

Great people and great prices on alcohol. Their DJ who spins on the weekends Allen Aguilar is incredible. Last night the place was packed. Best spot in Escondido on the weekends and the DJ definitely is the biggest reason.

If you're going to be loyal to any bar, keep coming to this one. It's my family, the drinks are strong, and there are plenty of regulars, including myself. No day is a dull one.

Great Atmosphere!

Gives new bands a chance to show what they're made of. Last night A friend of mine who starting up a van got show what they had and it was a good night they also had a Halloween contest to see who was dressed up the best and gave away door prizes. On Halloween they're going to have another best dressed costume and give away last night first place winner 55in flat screen color TV the costumes were amazing people took their time made their own it was quite interesting to see! The band was great good evening all around great place for date night. The worst part that was trying to find a parking space. But it is handicap accessible I guess your phone place to be it's actually got big screen TVs to watch the games with it has pool tables if you like playing pool. No cover charge in the prices we're not bad.

This place is great! They have a pool table, karaoke, good price on drinks, nuce little nook - However they don't let me in because of my Arizona ID when the bar down the street does, let alone every single bat I have been to in San Diego county, I think that's pretty laaaaaame.

Small dance floor. Hip-hop nights on Thursdays, weekends have live bands. Younger crowd obviously on hip-hop nights. Good drink deals, good place to come grab a drink and chill.

The security are some pretty cool guys but don't let the smooth taste fool you. It's not a place to start trouble. If they made the bathrooms bigger, it would be an even more awesome bar. You can here any type of music there. They have a stage and live bands perform. Some great, some good, some could be better but it's a great time.

Local gritty dive bar, cheap stiff drinks, and depending on what day of the week it is will determine the bartenders attitude.

Good place to have a drink and play some pool. I recommend not going when it is real crowded because it very difficult to walk and takes forever to place an order.

It would be difficult to maneuver a wheelchair in this place. The building is old and has not been remodele it is a popular destination for motor cyclist. Often have live rock bands.and gets crowded

It's a bar in Escondido. Yeah there's drinks but it can get kind of sketchy with some of the people who visit. Not the worst, not great... Definitely a middle of the road dive bar.

We were going to O'Sullivan but they were already closing so we tried to check this place. Small place. Music okay. Drinks okay. Looks intimidating outside but inside we had fun. Bathroom small with one stall so long lines in the womens bathroom. No live music. Open until 2am.

What made my experience a little disappointing was the guy bartender wasn't very friendly. Was rather rude to me and my friend. I didn't get correct drink I ordered. The service was just ok, took about 10min to get our drinks. I may have gone on a bad night, but my rating is based on my experience that night. Will go again and hopefully get better service.

Not the spot for me. Nothing wrong with the drinks or prices i just didnt like the vibe in the place. Had no desire to stay longer than 5 minutes to finish my beer.

bars is alright. reasonable prices. super wack vibe tho. bouncers a complete idiot who's upset with where he's destined to be for the rest of his pathetic existence. denied my friend service for having a temp id. (just turned 21) which is ok but ultimately caused us to not go in. lost 30-40 bucks just like that. decided to give it another go last night and sat down for a few drinks at the bar and then when i had to go to the bathroom the bouncer from the previous night tracked me down and harassed the sh-t out of me (whilst going to the bathroom i might add, completely unprofessional and inappropriate) as a message to the owner this bar needs to be restaffed. you know which employees im talking about. & to anyone contemplating going out for a few drinks here- don't.

Pounders is the quintessential Escondido dive bar, but not really in all the great ways. It's just skeevy. A long time ago it had some cool to it. It was a place to go to hear music or just get wasted. Now, mostly, it's a get wasted place. As such, it's not much interest to me. But I do know that some people want to get their drunk on in public and that's cool too (as long as they're not driving). Pounders could have been better in so many ways. I'm not saying it had to be pretty or something else, it could have been a great local dive bar. Instead, it's just a fairly mediocre local drinking hole.

This place is terrible. I was ignored and not given water on the hottest day of the year. The girl with the sour looking face couldn’t take the time to help me as she played on her phone. Not to mention they didn’t even have the ingredients for a White Russian. Rude and totally disrespectful. No one should go here and she should be fired.

This place sucks!! I went for the first time last weekend and it was a complete waste of money. The drinks were weak and overpriced. The waitresses were rude and lazy-they seemed bothered when asked for drinks!The music was terrible. The environment was not a fun one. Thought I could at least enjoy the pool table but it kept eating the balls. This place is more of a last resort type bar. if that.

Terrible experience!! I have always gone here and always had a good time. But one night One of the bartenders tried to pick a fight with one of my friends and Ruined hes whole night by him kicking him out just because the bartender wanted to fight him. If that bartender is working on a night I go in I am Immediately going to turn around and go down the street to a different bar! Hell vinz wine bar is way better then this place!!!! The day of the incident was 07/ 23/17. I hope this bartender gets fired so I can come back and have good times again.

This place is funny if you rate them lower, they always come back with something. I wanted to see what they would say with a blank 1 star; met expectations for sure. _______________________________________________________________________ TLDR *** All in all, I recommend checking out some of the other bars and brewery's on Grand during the day. Pounders is all right at night, but if your coming from somewhere else, the watered down drinks and atmosphere are not worth the risk. _____________________________________________________________________ Pounders is the last bar open on Grand and they like it that way. Although if you read reviews they have a weird policy of kicking out anyone whose coming from a different bar or has had a few drinks. I guess that's cool if you want to make sure people start and stay at your bar. If you do manage to get through the door, it is an ok place, few pool tables, broken Foosball, and pinball machine, the back is super dark dance floor and occasionally lights up for bands. Highly recommend switching to LED to cut back on electricity costs. They water down drinks a lot though; and maintain the standard prices. I LEFT THE BAR MORE HYDRATED THEN WHEN I ARRIVED. Outside of that, I personally have never seen any issues with the crowd other than that one or two shady characters out of place. A few people and their annoyed interactions with one of the many bouncers but they usually just head to the other late night bar crossing the street. Pounders feels like a bar aware of its decline on Grand and is trying anything to stay ahead. Sadly even its own employees are leaving for greener pastures. I wish you nothing but the best Pounders; I would cheer you, but your drinks are pretty much water and ice.

Really rude and unprofessional staff. The bouncer didn’t realize that my ID was issued by the federal government and told me it wasn’t an ID. I tried to explain what it was and that it is valid ID but he started screaming and calling me stupid. It was a really strange experience and I was shocked to see someone acting like that. (I had used the same ID to get in there the previous week, and also used it to get into O’Sullivans down the street right after this guy’s temper tantrum, so the ID was definitely not the problem.)

HORRIBLE SERVICE. We were in line for a drink and the bartender looked at us and served the guy behind us. Bartenders are insane and need some new training. Need new bartenders, I’ve never experience such horrible customer service. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

After 3 minutes of waiting For a drink the tall bartender was eating behind the bar, After 5 minutes I gave up and went home. It was slow at the time. The owner does not know how to embrace constructed criticism. By 86 a customer Does not make the business any More money. One unhappy customer per week, Will be out of business in a year. Take this in Grain of salt. There's a lot of bars competing for customers dollars.

Use to be a great place. Dude blocked my son from entry saying he was intoxicated when he clearly wasn't. Their loss, it was my birthday and we dropped $hundreds down the street. . As I expected.. a smug response.. no responsibility for their actions. This is what you get folks.

Started off good. I was there with my mom and her bf and when I went to look for her bf by the door some black dude pushed me. I then went b to the bathroom and as I came out I WAS ejected BECAUSE a black for pushed me for no reason as I went to the bathroom and then when I came out I was like why did you push me and was immediately kicked out by the the guys that work there. Im not trying too make this about race but it was more than obvious,v and somehow it was all my fault.

The service by the bartender was slow and disrespectful and then the security tried to pick a fight with me just to make him feel big because he had other security personnel to have his back I will never go again. I was just trying to have a good time and after the experience I had there I will definitely never go back or recommend this place to anyone.

Before we entered the bouncer questioned my friends and I about our sobriety when we had no drinks in our system. Our bartender spent most of his time talking to coworkers before taking our order, but we didn’t feel comfortable drinking after dealing with the bouncer. My autistic friend was berated to almost tears. Great location, terrible service, and rude staff; 0/10 will return Not only that but the management attacks people that have left bad reviews instead of addressing a clearly prominent issue.

This used to be a fun place. But not really anymore. They have non stop problems and kick people out for dumb reasons. Even tell customers to clean up their broken glass, even though that is illegal and a liability lawsuit.

The bar staff is always preoccupied, either with conversations with friends or taking personal phone calls. There is a guy here who I think may be a bartender but I have seen more of his back than his face, including a span of 2 full minutes looking in the drawer. This place claims to be a sports pub but all I have experienced is a night club atmosphere. Nothing but rap played and only 1 of the 4 tv's on sportcenter now live sports. Though I know how people love to watch musicians on tv they are neither sports nor the music I am listening to from the speakers. I get a dj that has no sense of karaoke or crowd. How is every song on the rap spectrum when there are end of season basketball, early baseball, soccer, cricket anything sports and not a single tv is playing live sports in a "sports bar" oh and I always have to wave down a bartender because apparently empty glasses mean take a call on your cell, look at the drawer and turn you back on your bar top to talk to your parter.

Pounders SUCKS. they have WARM BEER, and have TERRIBLE SERVICE. they also sell cocaine e out of the bar. Don't believe me, look up pounders drug ring bust they are dirty and their bartenders is rude as hell. Stevie the owner is a complete jerk and does not know how to run a bar. Save yourself the trouble and go to Vinz they are much more classy and clean.

I started to panic in pain and anxiety so I did the only thing I could do , stretch. I went in on a rainy day with my 9 year old service dog I received through the VA. Highly trained and never have been apart. I sat down as well my service dog lays down. I order a beer and after a minute or so a girls comes over and says we don’t allow dogs. I said he is a service animal and she said that doesn’t matter to us. Which they are so uninformed/educated that it is against the ADA law and the @we can refuse service to anyone”.doesn’t apply. Kinda funny from a food old dive bar I’m used to visiting. I was excited to meet some new cool people, play some pinball and relax. But I wasn’t given the opportunity. Stay away from bad karma!

ABSOLUTE WORST SERVICE. Worst bar experience I’ve ever had. Hurts to even give them 1 star. Forget the fact that the bartenders can’t make a basic cranberry vodka but let’s talk about the bartenders horrific attitude. Save your time and money and take a few extra steps down to O’Sullivan or a 7 minutes ride to north bar. Since I can’t comment back I’ll edit my post to respond. You are very welcome. It's January 10th and the front windows are open. I asked them to be closed and a bartender or barback said there were probably warmer bars I could go to. It took 10 minutes to get a beer with only 6 people inside. Don't waste your time. The bar staff is garbage, however the bouncer seemed nice. Visit a "warmer" bar and you'll be much happier!

So honestly tonight was the worst service I have ever experienced at pounders. The servers were picking and choosing who they served. Totally chaotic. Please train the staff. Wow you really put me in my place. Take criticism more constructively. Pounders was fine in the past. In the past your bartenders would actually acknowledge people and say I'll be right with you or give me a second. Yesterday we, with many others, got ignored or passed up.

do not go here if You’ve had one drink or if you’re in the military. I brought my sister here. She is 47 years old. She had two drinks at a bar before coming here. They allowed her service and then she argues with them about my military ID in allowing his service and they told her she was too intoxicated to enter the bar. she in no way was passed a legal limit and I had not even drink at this point. I did one side because I was allowed in and spoke with the owner supposedly, told me John, they’re supposed manager of security, a fat bearded fellow, that he had good reason hahahah. To which I responded I’m in the Navy, we are celebrating, she is below the legal limit and is not stumbling or exhibiting any signs of intoxicating Behavior.I was just Upset and told the supposed owner and then after voicing my complaints calmly I was kicked out of the bar by the fat security guard. This is because my friend was intoxicated. Pretty sure neither of these are any kind of laws. Avoid this bar if your military or a normal person.

I was watching the band tonight. Needed to use the bathroom. It was being cleaned. I was next in line to use it. A girl walked in front of me and I held the door saying "whoa, hang on a sec, I'm next in line. They're cleaning the bathroom." She left. Next thing I know, coming out of the bathroom, the lady who had cleaned it said the bartender said I was to be kicked out. I was like what? Lady said it was the bartender who cut in front of me, said she didn't like what I said so I needed to leave. I asked to speak with the manager. We went out back to speak to the guy sitting on the stool at back door. We (the employee cleaning the bathroom, who was my WITNESS, and I) told the guy who said he was the manager in charge, the story. He asked me to wait outside. He came back saying the bartender told him I shoved her, which I DID NOT, didn't even touch her. I held the door open, talking to "the girl" who cut in front of me in line to use bathroom. I told the manager in charge that was a lie. That's not my M.O. He told me to wait. I chose to leave as I didn't need Pounders' "drama". I don't like liars, especially an employee of an establishment. I'm not going to spend my money at a place like that.

We went in to have drinks after exploring the new Grand Ave reno. Drinks sub par, rude staff. Sketchy after dark; stabbings, shootings. They serve a rougher crowd, I suppose. In my opinion, this establishment has no place on the new Grand Ave environment. Absolutely DO NOT recommend.

Such a let down. How are you going to impose capacity issues on blackout Wednesday after over 20 years. Disappointed to say the least. Do better.

We were not allowed in because we tied our dog up outside and the “bouncer Rafael” said the dog was in the way of him throwing people out of the bar. It was 7pm on a Friday. The dog was 20+ feet from the door. We normally come here to play pool with friends. Money out the window and multiple customers lost over some guys ego.

My friends got jump there and robbed and it was the owners friends that did it. I would not recommend this place to anyone. After reading the comments left by the poor excuse for an owner I would really recommend not coming to this bar. The owner is truly disrespectful. Do yourself a favor and go downtown they have way better service and manners. I know for sure my friend didn't punch any girl in the face, since I saw the security video, so try another one a whole.
