TJ Tacos is highly praised for its authentic and delicious street tacos, especially the adobada. Customers rave about the fast service and lively atmosphere, reminiscent of Tijuana-style tacos. It can get crowded, but the quick turnover and ample seating make it worthwhile.

Opinions de TJ Tacos Escondido
Very authentic and delicious street tacos! We have expected to come try this one for a long time because we saw some local food bloggers really recommend here. And it is very impressive and the meats are very tasty. The price is nice and service is good as well. Restaurant is clean and comfortable.
This is my go to taco spot right after I finish a long day at the Safari Park. It never disappoints. EVERYTHING with adobada is perfection. The meat of cooked perfectly and the salsa that they throw on top is amazing. We usually get asada tacos and plain quesadillas on the side. I’m not sure why, but a plain quesadilla always tastes really good on a flour tortilla. They have plenty of drinks available including aguas frescas such as horchata. The only down side to this place is that it’s pretty small considering how popular it is. If you go during their busy hours you may have to wait for seating, sit outside, or eat in your car. They do have a drive thru so that’s okay too.
So far has been the best taco and burrito I’ve had in California, I recommend the California burrito! Amazing!
A friend told my hubby about this place, so we checked it out while vacationing in the area. I had the asada tacos and hubby got an adobada burrito. They were delicious! There were several other things on the menu I’d like to try, so we’ll be back when we’re in the area again. This is a no frills place, very casual, and the food is AMAZING. If that’s your jam, go now!
This will always be a favorite taco place for me. I am obsessed with the tacos de adobada. I order them with everything (onions, cilantro, and the green sauce). The workers are so nice here and the drive through is convenient when it’s short. To-go is available. Try coming here during less busy times! Be prepared for a wait during lunch and dinner times. Worth it, but don’t expect a table. Pro tip: order a mulita of your favorite meat if you love cheese! It will be what’s in your usual taco with cheese and made in between two tortillas!
This is our go-to taco place. The place is a legit Mexican place. Unlike Tacos El G, TJ Tacos knows how to run a drive thru. I love the lengua and adobada tacos (with everything of course! 😉). The tacos definitely increased in price, but it's all inflation's fault.
The carne asada was pretty good. Solid Mexican food. Would definitely come back again.
Typically a busy spot but when you try the tacos you really understand. There are so many options you can chose from Tacos to Mulitas (two tortillas with melted cheese, meat filling and salsa in between), burritos and meat fries. So many meats from: Adobada, Asada, Cabeza, Lengua, Suadero, Buche, Tripa, Chorizo, Nopal. I usually stick with the Adobada and Asada but my father likes the Cabeza and Lengua. Would recommend this restaurant.
Off the hook! I’ve been and eat tacos all my life! They are doing it right here! So tender and juicy! We will be back! My most frequently spot is Alex tacos in San Marcos but this is our new spot for sure. Our primo told us about here so we went for it and boy enough said come here! For the price of the taco is good because they stacks the meats! With the name of TJ tacos y’all can keep that name cause y’all are killing it! Represent aaaaaaayyyy!!!
This place is busy, rightfully so. Mulitas and tacos were delicious! You can ask for grilled onion and jalapeños on the side. So yummy. They have good options for meat. Buche, cabeza, tripa, suadero, asada , chorizo/nopales and adobada. I had asada , chorizo and adobada. You can ask for grilled onions and jalapeño on the side. They don’t have a salsa bar so if you like your tacos spicy, make sure you tell them to add more to your tacos. Oh and it’s super affordable.
I had been wanting to try a suadero tacos forever and it was delicious! I think the adobado may have it beat tho. I turned off my stereo and closed my eyes it was so heavenly!! Seriously the best taco I've ever had! Idk if it was the meat or the sauce of the gravy type deal stuff. But it was heaven!! I will definitely be back!
We just moved to the Escondido area and we were looking for a good place too eat. My daughter and her daddy love Taco Tuesday's!! So that being said we had heard about TJ Tacos from watching one of our favorite motorcycle riding programs. A few of the riders ( Twitch & Axel ) both stated that they always stopped at TJ Taco's before going riding!! Well I can definitely see why!! They are some of the tastiest Street Tacos I've tried!! We have only tried the spicy pork though. We all loved it so much so that we even went back two days later!! Lol.. So if you love Street Taco's then you will have to give TJ Tacos a try! They are really popular and there is always a long line! Sometimes you won't even find an open table. The best time to go is when it's not lunch or dinner time. Lol... Seriously though it's pretty much always busy so just be prepared for a wait. The wait will be worth it though! 😋👌
Truly fantastic street-style tacos. The fries are also wonderful. I'm visiting my brother in Escondido, and we've come here three days in a row. The cabeza is some of the best I've ever had, and the adobada is a wonderful mix of flavors and textures. Quick service, good prices, and friendly staff. Wish we had a place like this in the Bay Area!
There’s tons of places that serve Mexican food in San Diego. All of them claim to be closest thing to a “south of the border taco” so far they have all failed. However, Tj Tacos is exactly what an authentic Tj taco taste like. Authentic taste, with an amazing flavor and great salsas. Adobada & Cabeza are the best ones. However, any other style will definitely hit the spot. I’ll definitely be going back often.
TJ Tacos has to be one of the best Tacos i’ve had in a while. I’ve had Tacos el gordo but i have to say that TJ tacos were amazing the meat is soft and tender grilled perfectly. The seasoning is good and not to salty the tortillas are made perfectly perfect the meats asada and adobada are great.i highly recommended for you guys to stop by and grab some tacos !!!!
My favorite taco place in San Diego. This place is my go to every time I visit SD. They make fresh tortilla and the meat is really good. My only problem sometimes is that some staff doesn't speak that much English but I guess that's how you'll know it's authentic. They also have drive thru. Love it!
Really nice taco, drove 30 min for this. Well worth the drive. We had to get to go because of covid times. My only suggestion is I wish the salsa was hotter or offer a spicy salsas, other then that outstanding!! Make sure ask for grilled onion and pepper. Is the perfect combination of sweet and slightly spicy. My favorite was the marinated pork 😋
Food/Taste/Flavor: 5/5 - we ordered 4 tacos of cabeza (beef head), tripa (listed as beef tripe but it’s actually intestines rather than stomach), and buche (pork stomach). The cabeza came with green salsa and had a surprisin kick. The other two came with red salsa and the tripa was fried well and crispy. Absolutely delicious! Ambience: 5/5 - little shop with 3 “lines” you stand in depending on what meat or items you want. Clean overall and while there are plenty of seats, there’s so many people there that there might not be any empty ones! Service: 5/5 - slight challenges communicating but we were able to order and get everything we wanted. Value for price: 5/5 - great food! Reminds us a bit of Tacos El Gordo set-up but better food, more competitive pricing, and better service
This place is fantastic. I like the Adobado best. Get a couple of those and Pineapple Bang! and you have a great meal. Price is best on the tacos. Also a yummy cheese quesadilla but value not as great, there. We visit every time we're in town visiting my parents. Edit: Just went again. Because? Amazing. Edit 2: Went again. Good mercy this place rocks. Edit 3: Amazing again. Edit 4: Are you getting this? Yeah. We keep going. Because. It's amazing. Edit 5: Went again. Awesome again. Edit 6: Yuuuuuummmm Edit 7: Adobada FTW!!!
My pick for the best tacos in the SD area. Most places generally have pretty similar tacos but the tacos here are truly unique and a cut above. Even though it's got over 4k reviews on Google, it isn't that crowded, probably owing to how far it is from the main SD metropolitan area. Even on a Friday night we were able to find ample parking and seating.
This is THE dinner destination spot after visiting the Safari Zoo. With the amount of reviews they have I thought there would've been a line out the door every night but it was pretty quiet on a Monday night. They definitely deserve more business. When we walked in, the employees were helpful in explaining how the cafeteria-style system works. You grab a tray and there are different stations for different meats and sides. You tell them how many you want of each and pay at the end of the line. I'd say the beef options are pretty good. The carne asada may have been a little dry but the absolute stand out is the adobada. It's a perfect mix of sweet and savory. The best al pastor I've had so far.
Best carne asada burrito I’ve had in years. My wife also had 3 street tacos that were incredible! My daughter had a breakfast burrito which she said was super great. Kudos to these two ladies
Always a great decision. These days, it makes sense to drive north to TJ Tacos for some delicious food instead of going south of the border. Less traffic and much safer. This location serves up the goods. I've been coming since they first opened. A private lot and some street parking as well as a drive thru. You choose. The food is fresh and tasty. Service is excellent. Their staff are friendly and welcoming. They've added furniture to the patio so there's more dining space. I'll be back for sure.
The Al Pastor tacos here are really good. Tried the cabeza taco as well which were very tender. The setup for ordering tacos is cool too. There are different windows to go up to depending on what tacos you want. It was already crowded at 1030am on a Sunday, but there is plenty of parking.
i remembered the first time my partner brought me here, we had a long day driving kinda exhausted and car sick was hitting me however the moment i got that bite of taco i was AWAKEEEE not joking at all, this is probably the best taco i have ever eaten i love that plates at the right of the photo yesterday we went there again for the mear+ fries it was amazing as well but the must eat is definitely TACOSSSS even seeing highway patrol getting it to go we all know that cops and taxi driver have the best food spot🤣
Went here for the great tacos and was NOT disappointed. Fabulous tasting steak (carne asada) and pork (adobada) street tacos; I also had a adobada mula which is like a tostado with the soft tortillas. Not far from the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Lots a different soda to choose from too. Other family members got pina colada favor soda and mango.
I arrived here with my family for a delightful dinner. The menu is a vibrant celebration of flavors, featuring an array of tantalizing tacos 🌮 🌮🌮, cheesy quesadillas that ooze goodness, and tasty mulitas that are simply irresistible. Each dish is a wonderful explosion of taste, making for a truly enjoyable meal together.
TJ Tacos in Escondido is the kind of place where patience pays off. The tacos come loaded and are absolutely worth the price but getting them is another story. If you order multiple types of meat, be prepared to wait because the different lines move at a snail’s pace. Stick to one meat and you’ll be eating much faster. That said, once you finally get your food, it’s everything you hoped for. Juicy, flavorful, and packed with toppings that make every bite worth the effort. If you are craving legit tacos and don’t mind a little wait, this spot delivers.

No need to go further south! TJ tacos are the best! service is great and fast, plenty of seats and clean place. I definitely recommend.

Hands-down, these are the best tacos San Diego. Specially if you’re not trying to drive out of North County. The tripe, head are the best. Super fast food but feels like you are having gourmet tacos.

This felt like a fast food joint for Tacos. Plenty of options and dine in tables. Plenty of parking as well. Good options if you are craving tacos around the area.
Grilled carne asada very good!! You can test grill flavors on each taco!! Al pastor on vertical spit where delicious!!! Very authentic Mexican tacos!! What I just have considered with it a language barrier!! Staff totally ignore you when you not speak Spanish!! And I am immigrant myself and I not order food in my native language!!
Good street tacos, I wish the fries came in a smaller option. I really appreciated the staff helping an old lady past their little side gate in her wheel chair.
Escondido, NorthCounty San Diego - Tacos lovers in North County rejoice! We found a legit good taco place where the lines aren’t so bad. Def a destination to experience. Lots of yummy options but folks seems to really love the adobada - this spit fire pork is marinated in red chiles, vinegar and oregano. The char on those pieces are 👌. Carne asada was also popular and are the main attractions here. For me, I tried almost everything on the menu. I liked the beef shoulder and tongue (lengua) bc of the crunchies. The head cheese and tripe were fine but nothing soo amazing. Folks seem to like the fries, but y’all know I don’t waste calories like that. Fries gotta be the center if imma eat that, or crazy amounts of cheese. I also liked the Mulas- two tortillas filled with meats and stuff in middle - like a tortilla sandwich or 2 piece quesadilla. The tortillas are so chewy and really “corny” in a good way! Will have to go to tacos el gordo for proper comparison. @grobusteats on Instagram
They make really good cabeza tacos here and they're open real late. Very moist, very tender, and seasoned well.
Busy place with plenty of seating. The way it works, you make a line depending on what you would like to order. Everything is freshly made to order and they are very fast. Drinks are very basic as they only have one size and its refillable fountain drinks. Food tasted good. Portions were pretty hefty.
I really enjoyed my meal here. The flavors were balanced perfectly, and the presentation was beautiful. The staff made me feel welcome from the moment I walked in. This place is worth every penny.
I went at 3:30 pm so there were no lines and fast service. Tacos are pretty good, I guess you need to ask for the grilled onions and jalapeños when the cooks are making your tacos? I saw them, but I didn't automatically get any and did not want to go back and ask. Overall it was a good trip here for tacos.
Food was good, not the best I’ve had, but definitely manageable. The service was amazing, and the atmosphere was perfect, which really made the experience better overall. I wouldn’t say I’m in a rush to come back, but it’s definitely worth trying at least once.
Good burrito but PRICEY Food -California burrito ($16.99) - It tasted good 4/5, the ingredients were good quality but paying $18.47 (with tax included) for a burrito is pricey IMO -The tacos did look really good, I would come back to give them a try. Service: no issues everyone was friendly. You order at the stations then pay at the cashier. They have a drive thru which is convenient! Ambiance: Gives off proper Mexico food vibes. Overall good spot but beware of the price point
I stopped by this taco joint after hearing rave reviews. The carne asada tacos were flavorful, and the handmade tortillas added an authentic touch. However, the wait time was longer than expected, and seating was limited. Despite these minor issues, the quality of the food made it a worthwhile visit.

Decent parking and quick service. Inside is clean and has a nice outdoor area. Ordered the carne asada burrito which was sooo big and filling. Had a lot of protein in it as well!! A bit pricey but …
Campechana fries are ok not the best, the red salsa was one of the worst I have ever tried, it had a bitter and sweet taste no spice at all, I personally think salsas are suppose to be somewhat spicy, it was very packed but I'd still come back to try the tacos which is what they're known for I'm assuming
Great Tacos, worth a visit! Quick Service Salsa wasn’t spicy or very flavorful, and for me this is worth 2 stars.. next time I visit I’ll bring my own.. The tacos taste great, I got the following 5 tacos. Cabeza **** Lengua ***** 🏆 Tripa ** Suadero ** Buche **** Good thing is they have a drive through but you will be waiting a bit..
Accessibility: there is a Drive-thru as well as accessible/disabled parking spots and a ramp to get onto the sidewalk. The door to enter the building is a pull door. There is seating indoor and outdoor in a small, fenced in patio. Experience: I went through the drive-thru and it took 20 minutes with two cars in front of me. I was really disappointed with the food. They don't sell any chicken which is fine, but the beef they use tastes like raw meat; I hated it. My girlfriend thought it was okay though. I've had tacos in Mexico plenty of times and at so many places in California but these were not it for me. The limes were also dried up so I squeezed them and barely got any juice.
Chose this place for its high star. Son and I came in before 12n on a Thursday, I expected crowd. The line is ineffective if you are getting multiple meat type. One line for each of these (adobada, asada, lengua & buche, burrito). I stood up in the burrito line for like good 8 mins without anyone acknowledging me, even the cashier lady asked if anybody has helped me yet. She checked in the back and they were prioritizing the drive-thru orders. Then, you'll bring your tray to pay for food and drinks. I had to ask for salsa, as they are kept in the cooler. This is not offered as default, the cashier gave two salsas (one red, one green), for 3 tacos and giant burrito that was all given, had to ask for more and was stingly given another 2 little containers. I gave 15% tip regardless. I expected flavorful meat but it came as bland even with salsas red and green combined or adding the grilled onions or chilli. Truthfully, I am not pleased with this place taste-wise go somewhere else, not worth the hype.
An affordable authentic Mexican taco shop, but not too much more to offer. The adobada taste very good. Wonderful assortment of spices, cooked on a rotisserie and shaved like Kebab. Ordering setup was a bit inefficient needing to stand in multiple lines instead of serving like a lunch line. Missing a salsa bar. Missing Modelo.
Food was Okay, Steak was flavorful, but the guacamole which has an up charge was completely flavorless, the pork meat was also dry and flavorless without the sauce or pineapple on it. Horchata was okay. Restrooms was the main disappointment, no soap, and smelled bad as well as graffiti all over the sink. But good service and nice people, 4/10 overall.
I grew up loving this place for many years. The food is absolutely amazing. Probably the best place to get some carne asada and adobada, along with tacos el Gordo. But I've moved out of state, so I always have to return here whenever I visit. In recent times, the prices have just gotten out of hand. My go to order are the adobada fries and I was shocked to see they were nearly 20 bucks. This place is good but not 20$ for some fries good.
TJ's taco's has a pretty good line management system to handle the high volume times. Ordered the pork burrito which came to around $17 after tax. Meat was nothing spectacular but is usually an upgrade over your average mexican chain resturaunt adobada offering. It's done in the kebab meat style with a rotating spit but I often find the meat tougher than it should be. Their mild tamatillo salsa is quite delightful though and would compliment a wide variety of dishes. My gut feeling tells me there's a wide range of quality due to the randomness of the spit roast cuttings you get on their adobada meat.
Food is excellent but I can definitely see how things are changing sadly, service food-wise wasn't very good but cashiers are always friendly, ambiance isn't crazy to talk about, and I didn't expec…
Genuinely the sadness thing ever from this place. Haven't been here in a while, and the price for the Adobada Fries spiked twice while I got it again. Understand due to inflation and such, but when I got home and opened my food holy heck. It's so sad, it's such a small portion for such an expensive price. I feel very much ripped off. Eont go back here ever again. They used to be good, fair prices with fair food. But this was just sad. Utterly disappointed and would not recommend.
Carne asada seemed a bit undercooked and rubbery. Adobada was not great. Didn’t taste authentic. There was no salsa bar and the salsa they do give you upon request is very little. Red salsa was too tomato tasting; green was better.
I went here because Frida's was closed for some reason and I wish I chose to starve instead. I ordered carne asada tacos, and they were just sad looking. The meat was bland and overcooked / extremely dry & tough to eat. The portions were small and the tortillas were soggy.
Got a carne asada taco that was okay and an a adobada taco. The adonada tasted weird, had some sauce on it that smelled sour. As I was eating it I knew I should just throw it away but I was too hungry.. I've been sick for the last 3 days. Won't go there again. Trust your instincts if you guys order the adobada.
A few years ago I got sick after eating the adobada tacos so I was put off for a long time. I decided to give this place another try just because were starving and it was the closest place to our planned route. I got the carne asada tacos, very disappointing, bland flavor, the only thing with some taste was the salsa so I smothered the tacos in that. They also forgot to put guacamole! At 4 dollars a taco, I called to complain. The manager wasn't in, I left my phone number but I didn't receive a call back. Huge bummer, will not be returning again.
I wish I could give this place 0 stars. I ordered the carne asada burrito, took one bite, and threw it away. It was that bad. The entire thing was insanely spicy – not in a good way, but in a way that completely ruined the flavor. I couldn’t taste anything except burning heat. There were no warnings or any kind of English instructions to let me know what I was getting into. The carne asada was dry and tough, and the spice just overwhelmed everything. Honestly, it tasted like they dumped a bunch of hot sauce in it without thinking about balance or flavor. The lack of English on the menu made things even worse. I had no idea what I was ordering because nothing was clearly labeled. When I tried to ask the staff, they couldn’t explain much in English, so I just pointed and hoped for the best – and clearly, it didn’t turn out well. I don’t understand how this place has positive reviews. Maybe I just got unlucky, but I’m not willing to give it another shot. I literally took one bite and couldn’t handle any more. It felt like a total waste of money. If I could rate this 0 stars, I would. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else.
I decided to give this place another try, and as always it disappoints and is overpriced. I was craving a burrito, but after seeing the $19 price tag, I went with an adobada and carne asada taco. $9 for two small tacos is insane. You look at that picture and tell me if it looks good to you. The pork was obviously old and a lot of fatty pieces. It seems your prices continue to get sky high but quality gets worse each visit. I really wish y’all would take people’s advice and do better.
