Wow it was such a nice experience to eat here. The ingredients all work so well together, made from scratch with lots of passion. I also loved the dessert and the owner took the time to explain the thought process behind the construction of the menu. High attention to detail in his explanation definitely comes from a genuine passion in food- I am super impressed.
Amazing top-notch food experience! Since discovering this place I have found myself wanting to go there for lunch every day. The owner/chef and staff are very kind and accomodating, the dishes are very rich and deep in flavours and nourishing! Atmosphere is calm and clean, interior is deliberately minimal. Being situated in a street full of concrete/brick, I think the place could benefit from added greenery or subdued decoration to make the place look more inviting while maintaining the minimal aesthetic.
Great spot for bento, sandos, matcha and onigiri and convenient location. Love the menu options, really good service and tasty food. They are also genuinely keen to hear your feedback which shows that they care about your experience. Can’t wait to go back to try more things!
Delicious Japanese food made with so much care and love, all within easy reach in Rotterdam. I love the karaage chicken - it was so crispy, well seasoned and taste just like the ones I ate in Kyoto. Also had the beef onigiri and tofu onigiri, wonderful bites of comfort. The portion sizes here are perfect and the service super friendly too! I can’t wait to come back and try more things on the menu.
We had a great time here. The food was delicious, the service was friendly and fast. I hope I have the chance to come back again. I highly recommend it!
Great gem, friendly, beware kitchen only only at 11:30am
Bento cafe offers delicious, well-balanced bento boxes and amazing desserts with fresh ingredients and vibrant flavors. The service is attentive, the owner is really nice and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. Don’t miss the yuzu rasberry sorbet —it's a must-try! A perfect spot for a quick afternoon sweet treat or satisfying meal! Go and visit, it is worth it
Food was tasty staff was extra polite! They noticed I was on my own and several of them stuck up a conversation with me. It was lovely of them.
Amazing experience at this Cantonese-Japanese collaboration! The flavors were unique and inspiring, blending both cuisines in a truly delicious way. Too bad it was a one-time event, but I’ll definitely be back to try other menu items. The staff was friendly and welcoming, adding to the great atmosphere. Highly recommend for anyone looking to try something different!
We stumbled on this casual eatery close to the station which was unexpectedly great - got the karaage, onigiri and some other snacks. Highlights were the super juicy karaage, tempura prawn onigiri and the siu mai! Would also rec the yuzu coffee - amazing combo for summer. Fun staff, will definitely be a new go to for a quick bite when next in town.
We visited on a Saturday, and the restaurant was full, with people even queueing outside. We ordered the matcha, sando, and onigiri, and we liked everything.
Saw this place online and it definitely loved up to the hype! The staff and manager were really nice and service was fast! The food was also very good and fresh! The interior of the place is also very nice and I will definitely be coming back soon!
Ordered the bento box with beef and egg and it was delicious! Will definitely come back and would 100% recommend to friends!
Super nice atmosphere, good matcha, friendly service and the onigiri was 10/10!
Such a cute little restaurant located perfectly in the city. Perfect for brunch, lunch, or takeaway to eat later in the day. Rotterdam centre really needed a new concept like this, its refreshing! Staff was also really friendly which was nice and made me feel comfortable. Didn't feel rushed at all Gyu Kimchi Bentobox~ it was the perfect serving of rice, beef and kimchi with spring onions. To me, the rice was a little too salty but thats just a preference. My mom liked it. The beef was super smokey, and soft. The kimchi complimented it very well too Ebi Katsu Sando~ the perfect bread slices with perfect warm (big!) pieces of ebi. In overall, i just missed a little more sauce, but it was very enjoyable and simple. Big portion too (the edamame portion also), but thats not something i complain about :) We also had the homemade ice teas (peach and yuzu) both were refreshing, and so nice with the meal. i'll be back for sure to try the sweets and onigiri. thank you!
The karaage chicken was perfectly crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside. It came out piping hot, with a golden crunch and was served with a wedge of lemon that added a refreshing zing. The onigiri was simple yet satisfying. I got both the prawn and chicken which was fresh and flavourful. This place is worth a visit. Can’t wait to try the rest of the menu!
We had such a good time at Bento Cafe! The place looks beautiful and so cozy after the renovation. The staff were super friendly, and the service was great. The food looked amazing and tasted even better. We’ll definitely be back!
Favourite new gem in Rotterdam for lunch!! I think I’ve definitely eaten the whole menu at this point - absolutely delightful take on a japanese bento with fresh ingredients and great homemade drinks (try the yuzu coffee!!! Surprisingly refreshing on a warm day!!). Adore the ceramics that the sandos are served on too. All time favourites are the gyu kimchi bento, the ebi katsu sando and all of the onigiri. I’ll be recommending this place to everyone!
Really impressed with the quality of the food, not only is it delicious but you can literally taste how fresh all the ingredients are! Can’t wait to try their weekend special aka the Unagi bento box, as both the karaage and beef bento boxes were soo good! 🍱 Definitely recommending this place to all of my friends :)
This is by far one of the best Japanese food spots in Rotterdam. My father and mother went there yesterday. I was there earlier with a friend. I had ordered Yuzu Karaage Sando, and my mother also! My father had ordered a classic bento box! It was too delicious. The freshness of the yuzu and crunchiness of the chicken. It is even halal for someone that wants to know. Please, give this legend from 010 a chance and enjoy! :) All the best Bento and see you soon in 010!
The food was super delicious! You might have noticed that their menu is very small and humble because everything is made with love and utmost care. My mother had the Karaage Teriyaki bento. The veggies were amazing, the rice was very well seasoned. BUT THE CHICKEN...oml the chicken was so JUICY and full of flavour. I had the Ebi Katsu Sando. The bread was well toasted and the skin of the Ebi Croquette was so crispy, the shrimp was soft and had been complimented well with the fresh cabbage for that extra *CRUNCHY* feeling ♡ On the side we ordered the Takoyaki. To be honest, it's either a hit or miss for the people who've never tried it. I personally enjoyed it. It's more like a savory treat filled with octopus, ginger, veggies topped with a tangy sauce for the unique flavour, katsuobushi for the umami and mayonnaise for the creaminess. The cafe itself is not really big, but it's ideal for takeaway. The staff were very friendly and welcoming 🙏 I will definitely come back and try more things from their menu ♥︎
Suuuch yummy food and the friendliest staffs (super smiley and even gave us extra tap water without asking 🥹)! For food, really recommend beef kimchi bento box & the fried Ebi for bites 😍 for the dessert and drinks please try anything matcha it’s amazing 🍵overall 10/10 would rec!!
Really nice addition to the breakfast/brunch/lunch scene in Rotterdam especially for the folks who want more than just bread, eggs and avocado. The food is very authentic Japanese and also made in house and fresh with a menu that caters to all kinds of appetites. The staff is friendly and the vibe is very lively but chill even if it’s peak hour. The decor is a 10/10. Table seating for bigger groups and a omakase style bar seating for solo eaters. The open kitchen is a nice touch to the overall experience. Definitely recommended if you’re a local or just visiting. (Their onigiri’s are easily the best in Rotterdam and yes I will die on this hill)
What a great find. Food was truly amazing. Drinks were delicious. Served by super friendly staff. We only had Onigiri as a light snack and they were better than what we had in Tokyo. No exaggeration. Extremely premium and perfect Japanese rice. We were so impressed we planned to come back for a full meal. Excited to return.
Been wanting to try their Sando Karaage for a long time, didn't disappoint, crunchy and juicy, also the Bento Box was very nice, maybe a little bit too big chunks of mushroom and aubergine, but tasted great and made with care and attention, Macha latte had a funny face on it 😊
We got here thanks to social media and we are glad we found this great spot for nice Japanese meals. Since you get inside, the restaurant has a cozy atmosphere. The stuff is very kind and attentive. Regarding the food, for the price you paid the portions and quality is great. We ordered bento box karage teriyaki / yuzu sando / karage chicke pieces. All great and tasty!. About the drinks: the match latte lychee is super creamy and flavorful (extra point for the presentation - extra tip when ordering: ask for oat milk to make it slightly sweeter), and ginger lemonade also nice.
Bento Cafe is such a delicious spot in Rotterdam. The food is to die for. The atmosphere is welcoming. The staff were so kind hearted. The chef is so talented. Great spot for a quick bite, but also for a sit down private event. Most recently, we had an event there and everything was perfect. Couldn’t recommend this place enough. Thank you for having us 🙏
REALLY good food, perfect bento sizes and delicious mochi & onigiri. there's not really any service, the people who work there are friendly but apart from ordering and paying you don't interact with them a lot. only downside is the air, it can get very dense when the oven's in use. but the food is SO worth it!! and the BEST yuzu matcha in rotterdam!!
The food is very unique, you don’t find these lunch spots often and the flavours didn’t disappoint. The bento boxes were adequately sized and price/quality is balanced. Servers were all really nice and helpful. My only complaint would be that the restaurant itself was a bit too smokey/smelling of fried food, but after a while I didn’t notice it anymore.
Came here for a quick lunch and oh boy was I surprised how good this turned out. Ordering is easy at the counter and the food came quick! The bento was also presented in such a great style, opening the box was an experience in itself! Even their own iced drink was absolutely lovely. This place is very recommended, will definitely come here again! 11/10 heerlie de peerlie 👌
The food was absolutely delicious and the portions were generous. If you love Japanese foods, this place is a must-visit. I also really enjoyed the atmosphere — there’s a counter where you can see the staff prepare the food right in front of you, which reminded me of being in Japan. I’m already looking forward to trying another bento box next time!
Went here for lunch and the food was sooo good! I got the gyu kimchi with onsen egg, and my friend got the ebi sando, both are super yummy and well presented. We had a preview on the winter menu with the ochazuke (rice, chicken and a side of soup) - very yummy too. I can taste the homemade flavors and I feel like the owner and the team put a lot of effort into their food. I’m repeating myself but the drinks (especially yuzu coffee) and the dessert are also very yummy!🤤😍
I found out about this new spot throughout social media. It’s definitely worth a visit! I was here yesterday and today, I ordered the ebi katsu sando and also a refreshing home made green ice tea. The sando was delicious, perfectly toasted, the sauce inside was perfectly balanced and the shrimp itself was crispy. I personally recommend the ebi katsu sando! Also the weekend special unagi onigiri was delicious! The owner and and the staff were friendly, gave me a welcoming vibe and it felt pleasant. There are still a lot of things I’d like to try. Will visit this spot again in the future. :)
Had a great experience at Bento Café!! We tried the chicken Karage, Bento with entrecote and kimchi and Sando with egg custard! All of them were amazing!! The bento reminded me a lot of my favourite Korean dish called “Beef Bulgogi”! The Sando was super tasty and creamy! And the Karage had a lot of flavor !We had an amazing red bean strawberry mochi as dessert :) All in all, an amazing place! 1000% recommend !! Service was also super good!
The food was absolutely perfect! ✨ The beef was tender, juicy, and savoury. 🍱 The yolk in the poached egg was super creamy and rich in flavor. 🥚 The kimchi actually tasted homemade; I went to a Korean BBQ recently where it tasted canned. 🌶️ Bento Cafe's definitely tastes fresh! Ther rice was soft, but still had a good bite to it. 🍚 Their iced matcha latte was also delicious! 🍵 Not too sweet, with oat milk. 🥛 The workers smiled a lot, seemed happy, and were friendly. ☺️ The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere, and I'm sure my colleagues and I will come to eat here again. 🤝 My only complaint is that the chairs are made of metal, so they're very hard and uncomfortable. 😬 I would recommend cushions as a quick fix. But I think bamboo or rattan chairs would be even more comfortable, and add to the aesthetic. 🎍🧺 Plus, it wouldn't be cold. 😉 Win-win! Edit: My second time at this Bento Cafe was just as great as the first time. 😁 This time, I got the tempura shrimp bento box with pickled radish. I'm not a big fan of the kelp/lamonatia, but that's just a matter of preference. My favorite is their Chuka wakame seaweed. 🌊
Cute café with a varied menu, though bento and onigiri are among the highlighted items. Service is straightforward—you order at the till and the food is brought to you. Prices are reasonable and the food was good, although I did find a small piece of bone in my meat, which was a minor disappointment. Overall, I’d still recommend it for an easy lunch at a convenient location before heading into Rotterdam city centre.
I’ve been to Bento Café multiple times now, and I keep coming back for one thing: their handmade onigiri's 🍙 It’s a cute, modern café with a nice mix of bento boxes, onigiri's, sando’s, (matcha) drinks and desserts. Everything looks fresh and nicely presented. My absolute favorite is the Ebi Tempura onigiri. It’s filled with panko-fried shrimp and spicy mayo. The sushi rice is so soft and flavorful, the shrimp is perfectly crispy, and the spicy mayo gives it a nice kick. The presentation always looks amazing too. You order at the counter and then grab a seat. For €5, the onigiri is actually pretty big, and you can tell they use good quality ingredients, so I think the price is very fair. The place looks super clean, the service is friendly, and their food is halal as well. Great spot if you’re craving Japanese munchies in Rotterdam!
This place is cozy and quiet, with friendly service. I didn’t get the big hype around it personally and wasn’t impressed by food honestly. There’s quite some spots around with a better flavor. Yet, I must admit that they have a great selection of interesting drinks including matcha, which I can recommend.
Nice Japanese style cafe in Rotterdam. The food is fresh, nice drinks but on the pricier side.
The onigiri’s are always delicious. They also have desserts to choose from, like black sesame mochi filled with red bean and rice waffle and matcha ice cream on custard cake. The last one was ok, but nothing special, icecream lacked a bit of taste and the cake was more like tough breadpieces put together in one piece. It was hard to chew on and only spoon available doesn’t make it easier to eat.
A very nice Japanese cafe in the centre of Rotterdam! A small and cozy place with good food. We went there for lunch and were happy to have one of the last available tables. We tried the hojicha and matcha as well as the beef and karaage bento boxes and were absolutely happy with our choice. I would definitely recommend to anyone craving Japanese food
I found this place when looking for “brunch” on google map. It stands out to me because of the concept and the atmosphere so I had a higher expectation for it. Unfortunately, i think it’s ok-ish only. Like if you don’t want to cook at home, they can be an alternative. The taste and the quality still need to improve a lot (from my perspective, as an asian)
I enjoyed Bento box but Onigiri was not worth it, wrapped in the cling film cold and soggy
I got the Yuzu Karaage Sando and the ginger wasabi ale. The Sando came with crispy chicken, cabbage, and yuzu mayo. I felt like the bread to filling ratio was off unfortunately. The chicken, yuzu mayo and cabbage did go well together but just was not sufficient. Would love to try out their bento boxes next time.
When I arrived, there was no guidance for seating, while other guests who came later were welcomed and shown to a table. Ordering at the counter also felt a bit confusing, with little assistance. The biggest disappointment was the gyu kimchi don: it was mostly spring onions and broth, with a few broken pieces of beef, very different from what I expected based on other reviews. Overall, the experience may vary, but the combination of uneven service and food quality left me feeling somewhat let down.
The bento boxes are quite overpriced, as the portion was really small. My karaage bento only got 3 pieces of karaages. The rice was maybe 5 bites? A bit disappointed to be honest…beef tasted good though. The yuzu tea also was so overpriced. There was no yuzu in there so basically yuzu flavoured tea.
I thought I would get Japanese bento here, but the only thing closed to Japanese bento is the wooden box. The lunch box looks big, but in fact, contains just little food. They use too much mayonnaise, the chicken Karaage is overcooked like rubber. There is no veggie in the lunch box making it nothing like Japanese bento. I paid too much for the ordinary quality of food.
Came here for lunch with friends and it was an ok experience. The place is small but nice and you order at the counter. The food was either disappointing or overpriced for what it is. I tried the Gyu Kimchi BentoBox and it was very cute, served in a bento box and looks really appealing. The taste was also really good. The beef was tender, and mixed with the kimchi and rice it was delicious. However, the portion is not that big and for €16.5 I would have expected more. At least for the egg to be included. It's nothing phenomenal either so there isn't really much that explains the price. Next I tried the Yuzu Karaage Sando and it was a huge letdown. 1st you expect white fluffy bread, and what you get isn't exactly that. It was very chewy and part of it was dry meaning that it wasn't preserved properly and was slowly going stale. The actual filling was ok. The ingredients are minimal, but I expected them to be better balanced. However, the yuzu sauce was too overpowering and there was a piece of chicken that was too overfried. Therefore, the food really disappointed me. But I did get to try a new tea which was really pleasant. Genmaicha tea has a mild but really pleasant taste and aroma.
Food generally lacks taste and feels homey where you can make it all yourself. Expected better rice quality and the ebi was too much batter and panko (small shrimp). Beef was okay but very very little. Nowhere close to a 5 star. People really need to up their standards for real on Japanese food here.
Very disappointed! Ordered gyu kimchi, rice is warm and wet, not hot enough, beef a bit too salty and dry, pouched egg came with shell. Matcha - blank . In all fairness, the food was served fast considering how busy it was. The combination is healthy, steamed broccoli, fresh cabbage, however, they are not able to do the most important part of the bento - rice !
