Great breakfast at Grandpa’s Restaurant. The food was delicious and the service was amazing. Ask for John — he’s the best! Super friendly and attentive. The place has a really nice, relaxed vibe too. Definitely a great spot for breakfast or lunch near the beach. ☀️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Our late lunch at Grandpa's was an absolute delight! With a party of seven, we were worried about a long wait, but Grandpa's had our table ready and waiting, with menus at the ready. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and attentive. They were able to answer all our questions about the menu and made excellent recommendations. The food was simply outstanding! Every dish arrived promptly, piping hot, and bursting with flavor. The portions were generous, and the quality was top-notch. I had the Reuben, and it was hands-down the best I've ever tasted. The corned beef was tender and flavorful, the sauerkraut was tangy, and the Swiss cheese was perfectly melted. The potato salad and fries were also delicious, crispy and perfectly seasoned. The chef even came out to personally ensure we were enjoying our meal, a truly unexpected and delightful touch. The bakery section was a feast for the eyes, with a wide variety of fresh, homemade treats. We couldn't resist indulging in a few pastries, and they were every bit as good as they looked. I can't recommend Grandpa's enough. It's a hidden gem that deserves all the praise. I'll be raving about this experience to everyone I know!
Visited this location after New Year. The front desk staff recommended this place and her recommendation exceeded our expectations. My husband and I was pleasantly pleased and full..
Old style with Katze’s Deli Corn Beef. The best Corned Beef sandwich in the area. If you’re in the area, it’s a must stop. I had been in Dania Beach last year & ate here. This time I was 4 miles away in Hollywood Beach & made a quick trip over just for this sandwich!
This restaurant has changed in the last couple of years and we feel for the better. Our food was fantastic. Our waiter Sam was great . He was attentive and informative. He brought our food and topped off our coffee with a smile . We bought some backed stuff like Rugalla raison and walnut apricot variety, which we had later in the day, and they were great also . It was a great experience all around. Grampa's is as good as it's ever been .
Don't get in my way when I need some carbs. The sign led me to the location of bagels and more. I was transported into a deli with comforts all around. I opted for a plain bagel and cream cheese. There is something for everyone! The line goes fast and the food comes out hot and well toasted. Staff was very friendly. Highly recommend.
When you come to Grandpa’s Restaurant, the customer service is amazing. Ask for John — he’s the best waiter and super attentive. The food is delicious, the service is fast, and the atmosphere is relaxing, especially being so close to the beach. Great spot for breakfast or lunch. ☀️
Came here after a cruise. The place was packed with regulars. The plates were full of food that looked wonderful. It reminded me of a NY deli. The Ruben has the absolute best tasting pastrami on it. Dont miss it.
Down here from NY a local told us about the place he wasn't lying !!! The food and service was fabulous Sammy is the man and Ashley was great anything on the menu is excellent highly suggest this place to anyone you won't be disappointed!!!!
The food was so good. This is literally 7mins from the FLL airport. I enjoyed everything I ordered. Lots of room in this space. No waiting and the staff are so friendly. Check them out!
We had a great breakfast at Grandpa’s Restaurant. The inside is really nice for a quick sit down breakfast. The bagels are amazing and the service was great and friendly!
Grampa’s Diner in Dania Beach is a true local gem, especially for breakfast lovers. The omelets are perfectly fluffed and generously loaded with fresh ingredients, making every bite a delight. Their eggs Benedict consistently earns high praise for its spot-on execution, with rich hollandaise and perfectly poached eggs. One standout treat is their black & white muffins—these are a must-try, with a unique crispy, crunchy texture that sets them apart from anything else in town. If you’re a bagel fan, you’ll be blown away by Grampa’s: the bagels are huge, authentically made, and bursting with that real New York-style chew. The portions here are famously large, so you’ll never leave hungry, and the service has that classic, friendly diner vibe that makes you feel right at home. Whether you’re fueling up before a flight or just looking for a classic breakfast spot, Grampa’s delivers comfort food and bakery delights that keep locals and visitors coming back for more.

This place is a wonderful modern twist of a throwback that is all it's own. I loved the corned beef eggs benedict with home fries, I recommend them. Grandpa's Restaurant is a great way to start your day in the middle of all the crazy.
Yum. My husband had the Reuben..very authentic and good. I had egg salad sandwich...stuffed high with egg salad, and a fabulous tomato slice plus fresh onion slice. Would totally return and try other menu items. And we bought some black and white cookies they bring in from NY. They were fresh and soft and good.
Busy but quick to get in!! They are very fast at seating folks!! Staff is friendly and professional but very also very personable too!! Food is amazing and the portions are large! Definitely stop online for meal or take out from the bakery. It is all fantastic!!!

Good food. Good diner atmosphere. Incredible service from Mia! She couldn't have provided better service. Hopefully management's taken care of this girl.
The best Rueben ever! Their breakfast menu is great & don't forget your bagels to-go (unless you're lucky and live nearby)! Highly recommend.
This was an easy five stars. Service was absolutely impeccable. Waitress was at the table when she needed to be and very sweet to us. Restaurant was very clean, tables were promptly bused and cleaned. The star of the show was the food. Garden fresh vegetable, savory nova lox, smooth and creamy smear, warm toasty bagel. Home fries crispy and cooked to the perfect bite, eggs temped by a true pro, and debatably the best sausage links I've had. No doubt will be back and highly recommend it to anyone in search of a wholesome, hearty breakfast. Drive straight past the IHOP and make yourself at home.
Excellent spot for a post cruise lunch for our group of 10 that was an easy walk from our hotel. Staff were very friendly, service was quick and the food delicious!
Traveled to Florida from Seattle for a Disney cruise. Not wanting a meal at IHOP or Dennys, I looked for a mom and pop type diner, cafe, or restaurant. Found Grandpa's via Google maps, checked out their menu, and decided that was the place to try. Boy, howdy! Best choice ever!! Had their Brisket platter. Best, melt in your mouth beef, real homemade mashed potatoes, perfectly cooked green beans. Definitely would travel over 3000 miles to dine hear again. Good job grandpa!!
This is a very good place to go eat! What a variety of cooked food & deli items, including sandwiches & so many salads. There are pasteries & homemade bagels & breads! The best place to go with a large group with many tastes! I was staying at a hotel behind the Deli, & ran in to get dinner...the best Egg Salad sandwich I have ever eaten!
Thought I would give grandpa's bakery and restaurant a try after reading several of the reviews as people seemed to like it. Wow was I impressed. The place is clean. staff was friendly and had a great atmosphere. Inside everyone greeted me and once the food showed up just huge huge proportions. I had the seafood in the linguine and I just flat couldn't finish it there was that much on the plate. Next time I'm back in town this is definitely a visit for me. Great staff, great people, great food at a pretty good price. You really need to check this one out :) Update. I like that they watch there reviews. Shows they really care :) Added a couple 360 photos to google maps for you :)
Did I post this one already? Lol. This is another one of those special deli’s. Absolutely everything is amazing EXCEPT their potatoes pancakes only because they are over fried. But their pastrami and CB etc are amazing. I’ll add pics later. Their waitstaff are attentive and the bagels are delish. They are large and doughy so I ask for scooped and twice toasted and they become AMAZING for me. I made bagels commercially for 6 years and these are the best by far in Ft L
What a great diner this place is, making old school New York style deli dishes and more. I went with the amazing French toast and smoky bacon for some sweet and savory start to my day. Perfectly cooked, nice crust on the toast and perfect crisp on the bacon. My lady went with what she called a bacon, egg, and cheese omelette on a fresh made egg bagel. Quick, clean, and outstanding service with excellent food is how you earn five stars and other awards, if your close stop by and see for yourself, you will be glad you did.
Athena is lovely the Authenticity of her Customer Service is Remarkable! Everything is Absolutely Exquisite Fresh Delicious Authentic and reasonably priced too! Highly Recommend GRANDPA'S Cafe
We got to FL around 6am and decided to go for breakfast. Best choice we could of made. Food was amazing but I’m particularly impressed by Brenda’s service, she made me feel at home and cared for. She was so sweet and funny, simply an amazing start to our trip ! We left with our belly and hearts full 💖 Thank you Brenda blessings to you 🫶🏼
DISCLAIMER: I am traveling from SC to get on a cruise ship from Fort Lauderdale, nearby. I stayed at the hotel next door before deciding to go here for breakfast. I went with friends and family. FOOD: Most of us ordered the half-stack of pancakes with a side of bacon (see photo). Our friend got the Philly cheesesteak. I can say that the quality of the food is definitely what kept this review at a 5, and nothing less. The food was absolutely amazing and I will be returning to grab a bagel or two. The lemonade looked fresh squeezed (not a chemical yellow, but rather a cloudy clear-white of fresh lemonade). The price was a bit higher for my preferences, but the food held up to the quality expected from price. SERVICE: Sam was our waiter. He was wonderful and incredibly friendly. The food came out quicker than expected, for how busy they were.
First time having breakfast at Grampa’s, the place looks like it has been recently renovated, it was clean and organized. Ordered the breakfast plate with two eggs any style (I choose fried ), grits and a bagel, also added bacon at an additional cost, the food was good, the only thing was that it came out of the kitchen and it wasn’t as hot as it was supposed to be, to finish I had the french toast half portion and you can see in the picture that it was a lot of french toast. Forgot to say that there was a complimentary pieces of muffin with butter. All in all it was a good place for breakfast.
This place is without a doubt one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. The food was some of the best, the atmosphere was great. Our server Sam was amazing. He made many suggestions about the menu and took great care of us both of the times we were there. I will definitely be adding this place to my list of places to come back to when im in Fort Lauderdale
Grampas cafe and bakery has very good food and excellent service. Every server checked on us and was extremely attentive. Fresh, fast, delicious meals! No wonder they have been in business so long! We will return! We also purchased snacks for the road and to share. Go, you will not be disappointed! The Coconut ricekrispie treat was amazing!
The place changed name. Welcome to the new Grampa's cafe. The entire place is diferent. As you walk in to the right there is a deli and a bakery counter. The bakery section is much smaller then the one they had. They now make really good bagels and sandwiches. The furniture changed too. No more booths. They have tables. The place looks really nice. They still bring you little sweets to the table. Today they had corn bread. Boy that was yummy. No kidding I think that was the best corn bread I had. I had the Hollywood. It's a nova platter but with hummus. It was good. I specially liked the bagel. It was delicious. I recommend giving the bagels a try. We had biscuits and gravy. The gravy was delicious. It had chunky something that tasted good. We liked it. Suzie our waitress was great, she was quick on point and friendly. I really liked the new look. The place looks great.
Found this place by accident and so glad I did. We had the best acacodo toast and salmon Benedict ever. Service was perfect. They have a bakery on site. Will definitely be back when I'm in the area.
Yummy, consistently good food . Best bagels always cook to order perfectly ,delicious food. Good service . Wait staff is always welcoming and ready to serve. Worth the money to pay for my breakfast . Enjoy
Grampa's went thru a massive makeover. Besides the decor, they have among the best coffee anywhere and the bagels are enormous and delicious. Food overall is amazing. Service always kind. Blows away THE FLORIDIAN. Don't waste time driving to Fort Lauderdale when Grampa's is alive and kicking.
Great surprise! Most tender Pastrami I've had in several years. Large servings, but 1/2 sandwich plus large cup of Matzoh Ball soup is perfect!
Excellent breakfast. Really enjoyed the complimentary breakfast pastries. Their crab cake eggs Benedict was a nice step up from their regular eggs Benedict. I added their signature hot sauce to the eggs Benedict and it went well together. Their key lime pie is ok and their coconut cream pie was good. Their Belgian waffle was good.
First of all Ashlee gave us a SPECTACULAR SERVICE. She was very kind, patient and always gave us her best attitude and smile even though the kitchen made two mistakes with our order. The food was very good in regards to quality and price per portion. Me and my daughter had a wonderful time here thanks to Ashley and the great food served by her.
Highly impress with their service and friendliness since we walked in… we were a big group and some restaurants will be challenged to accommodate us but they just open a room and have us all together. Food was amazing, wow the knish was delicious and so the pastries/ cakes and bagels we ate. Great choice to come… will be back for sure!!!
A nice place to sit and have lunch with friends and family. Waitress is very attentive, service is very quick. I had their Friday sandwich special, I forget the name. Ham, bacon and turkey sausage and cheese on a bagel. I asked for a dog crusted bagel, and it looks like they just ran it through the machine. Once, that didn't disappoint me, that's Philly standing from this place. I asked for the bagel to be buttered while my serve butter on this side. Sandwich was delicious!
Grampa’s is exactly what you want in a classic, no-frills diner. We got there just before the rush, and even though it was packed, everything moved efficiently. This is the perfect spot for a quick, greasy breakfast that hits the spot. The sausage on my sandwich had a slight sweetness that balanced the flavors perfectly, and the egg everything bagel was just right—it took me straight back to Jersey. My only suggestion? Skip toasting the bagel to fully enjoy the flavor and texture of their homemade goodness. Will definitely be back!
SO good. Worth the wait to get here to eat from Miami. Sausage, ham and bacon were fantastic. Even the grits were made correctly. Only complaint would be the home taters weren't quite done. But I'd make this a regular stop if I were in the area
We came here for breakfast before our cruise left and loved Grampa’s Restaurant. We were seated right away. Our waiter was Giovanni and he was super friendly and attentive! You can tell he’s a hard worker. The prices were pretty reasonable for the amount of food you get. I tried their ‘2 Eggs Your Way’ with their everything bagel which was soo good. It’s the best bagel I’ve ever had. It was fluffy and had the perfect amount of crunch. My fiancé had a bagel sandwich and thoroughly enjoyed it, his portion was HUGE! We had two cappuccinos which were good. If we lived in this area, I’d definitely come back for their fresh bagels.
Had a great eggs Benedict to cure my hangover. If only they had Bloody Marys. Server was over the top friendly and the meal portion was perfect. It was cash only as their internet was down. I had just enough to cover breakfast and unfortunately not much left over to tip. So this review will have to do! Don’t remember her name but she had the cool retro round framed black glasses. Great job! Now back to Alaska I go!
We hosted a Shiva and ordered a ton of platters for about 100 people. They did an amazing job. Clive who we knew from another place is stellar. All the food, the amount, the presentation and the delivery was 5 stars. People who came from New York raved about everything as well. Thank you so much!
We happened upon this place while staying at an airport hotel before a cruise. We had lunch of a hot pastrami sandwich (me and hubby shared- it was big!) potato salad and a black and white cookie. The pastrami was melt in your mouth good, served on marble rye - very good. I’m from the midwest so I usually don’t like my potato salad sweet - this was sweet with thin slices of potatoes and red peppers, very tasty. The black and white cookie was the real deal! that cross between cookie and cake with that thick icing- excellent. So we had to go back for breakfast before we debarked on the ship. Walt had the western omelette with hash browns and I had an everything bagel with lox cream cheese and coffee. All was so good! Bagels still warm and huge! cream cheese studded with lox, huge omelette with well sauteed veggies, ham and cheese and super crispy hash browns ( I thought them being so crisp was a fluke but as we left i noticed their crispy goodness was the norm. We paid about 30-35 each time there and that included our drinks. Great deal and excellent food!
We went for breakfast this place is so cute ! Staff is friendly !! Seating is spacious and open !! It is clean!! Has a modern Diner feel and experience. Service was top notch The options are sit down or take away They had tons of stuff to much to list; I recommend exploring your options They even make food to go and eat as a meal - Bagels were homemade and so good !! They sell bake goods, meat, sides, desert, keishes, and etc I took as many photos as I could. Def worth visiting for breakfast and lunch ! Prices match the portion size and the quality of the food !
Grampa’s Bakery & Restaurant in Dania Beach, Florida, exudes a warm, nostalgic charm, capturing the essence of a beloved community staple. The interior is has welcoming atmosphere that makes patrons feel right at home. Parking at Grampa’s is convenient with ample space available. The restaurant offers a dedicated parking lot, making it easy for guests to find a spot even during busy hours. We visited Grampa’s on a recommendation from our hotel concierge, who praised it as a local favorite for breakfast. Our meal included a variety of delightful options: • Drinks: Iced tea, coffee, and freshly squeezed orange juice, each perfectly prepared and refreshing. We enjoyed a platter with egg salad, coleslaw, and an Onion Bagel. The standout dish was the BLT Benedict with hashbrowns, the bacon was perfectly cooked. Brooke, our server, was engaging and attentive throughout our visit. She provided excellent recommendations and ensured our dining experience was pleasant. The only drawback was the 3% service fee added to the bill. Despite this, Grampa’s Bakery & Restaurant delivered a satisfying and memorable breakfast experience, living up to its reputation as a community staple.
Visiting the area and had breakfast. My! The bagels were so good and baked in house. We returned later in the day for a late lunch. Equally as good as breakfast. Wonderful deli!
Grampa’s Restaurant is located in Dania Beach, FL specializing in house baked breads and pastries! Serving breakfast and lunch with so many options and large portions! What we had: Coffee with coffee cake Western Omlette Sausage Gravy The New Yorker Breakfast Sandwich The Dania Beach Platter Everything was savory and delicious. Each meal tasted freshly made, as it was 😉 When I walked into the establishment the host was greeted me with such a beautiful smile. Dee, the manager, was welcoming and so informative. At the end of our meal she sat down with us for a little and gave us some history about the establishment. Our server Deana was very sweet. She made great recommendations based on her liking and I went with them since our likings seems to have aligned (salmon, garlicy, etc..). I wasn’t disappointed. She checked in with our table at perfect times, for coffee, water, etc.. our food came out pretty quickly (I’d estimate probably 10 minutes) and everything was freshly made. In the meantime I enjoyed a nice cup of hot coffee with coffee cake. There’s a bakery at the front of the restaurant that serves baked goods and sweets. A great stop to make on the way out.
We had lunch yesterday and breakfast this morning at this wonderful bakery and restaurant. The service was attentive and helpful and extra friendly! Highly recommend the bagels, wraps and sandwiches. Everything we had was fresh and delicious. When we asked about the ruglachs (small pastries that look like croissants), our server offered a sample. We loved them so much we got 6 to go. These were a great surprise; so delicious, both chewy and crunchy, and just the right amount of filling. My favorite was the raspberry. Don’t miss them!!!
Our recent cruise left out of Fort Lauderdale and we discovered this awesome bakery/restaurant thanks to our hotel clerk. Due to some return flight delays, we were able to visit 3 times in a week or so. Everything was excellent! From the food to the atmosphere, we were very pleased! Sam, our last waiter, was enthusiastic and helpful. We got to celebrate a USA Olympic Men's Hockey Gold Medal with him during our lunch! Such fun! Thanks, Grampa's and good job, Sam! - Mike & Janice, Mechanicsburg, PA.

It's a nice sized restaurant. They have breakfast and lunch options. They have a bakery where you can buy fresh bakery products from candy, condiments, eggs. The food was good. The waitress was a little short in explaining options. I had the burger and didn't know it came with 2 sides. The fries were good. We did get a few things from the bakery to go.
Great diner with a hidden feel. Very comfortable restaurant and excellent service. Shout out to Sam! Super nice guy. Pastrami was fantastic and I highly recommend the coleslaw. My wife enjoyed her burger and the fries are dangerously good, lol.
Although the order counter is the same, it is important to inform them in advance whether you will be dining in or taking out. The order counter staff is extremely professional and friendly. There are also a wide variety of freshly prepared delicious food options.

The giant bagels are too good, the basic breakfast is CHEAP and everything else is just tasty and good. Awesome spot.
This place has been opened since 1957! A true institution in south Florida! Love the remodel! It’s airy, open, even has a space for events. Well done. Service was prompt and while we didn’t have to wait too long for the food to come out, everything wasn’t hot. The server brought out three pieces of coffee cake that was delicious. My 3 egg western omelette was tasty and the hash browns were nicely crispy. For some reason, the food wasn’t hot so it went cold by the time I was almost done. The everything bagel was nice. But other than that, it was satisfying.
Third day (08/14) since the reopen: new owners refreshed what was a very old and salty establishment transforming Grams into a modern clean space more reminiscent of a bagel store then a diner which it once was. Brooklyn bagel makers know what they are doing boiling & baking fresh daily bagels and Flagels ( flat bagels / mostly crust very little fluff inside )which are the best in Fort Lauderdale. They’ve only been open for a short while so expect the training wheels to be on but I do see this location getting a lot of traffic and I’m sure it will do well for the owners and the bagel lovers. Since it’s early days you might imagine some of the employees aren’t up to speed but Dee is a wonderful manager, good listener, experienced, knowledgeable and extremely helpful to customers here and fellow colleagues. Management take note she’s your shining star.
My wife and I stopped by this restaurant because we were going to be in the area and by sheer coincidence the episode of Diner, Drive Ins, & Dives that featured the restaurant was on the the night before. When we walked in we were instantly aware that this was not the same restaurant. Apparently the former owners sold and the current owner has "modernized" the cozy looking family owned restaurant I wanted to check out. The decor is very cold and bland now and trys to appear upscale in what is not an upscale area. Appearances aside the food was great, my wife enjoyed a Cuban sandwich and I tried the Ruben. Both sandwiches had a generous amount of meat and were priced reasonably. I also tried a order of the biscuits and gravy since it was featured on the show and looked to be a popular item, it was good but not the best I had ever tasted. The service was incredible. Even though they were busy they still took the time to stop and talk and the waiter kept my drink glass full which is a big to me. Would I go back....probably not but it's definitely worth hitting at least once if you're in the area.
I'm grateful to have a Jewish deli here in South Florida. And I come to this restaurant every week so I must like it. :) I like the food very much and the service is good. But the prices are very high and what threw me off is the 3% service fee when you charge things. Prices are already high and more expensive than other delis so charging customers to use credit cards is a bit ballsy. They know that 90% of people use credit cards so it's a given that They're going to get an extra 3% for their food. And when they charge top dollar they shouldn't charge an extra fee to use a credit card. It's not in good taste. They also aren't very flexible in substitutions.
Enjoyed the food and the service here. Very much. Lots of seating and parking right in front of the restaurant. I had the Cobb salad and the portion was excellent. I definitely will come back here when I am in town.
Went with my usual ex-Miami Beach High brunchmates. We are the original "Deli Mavens," having been brought up with Wolfie's, Junior's and Rascal House, among all of the other delis found from North Miami Beach down to Coral Gables. This place is the real deal, as far as the food and presentation of it. Quality of the cold cuts is good. Sandwiches were suitably tall. Fish platters were complete with requisite toppings. Included was a non-standard accompaniment--guacamole. Soup was seasoned without being overbearing, and rib-sticking. Potato knish (pronounced "kuh--NISH") was a bit different--smushed down almost flat and without any crispness to the crust.Service was a bit confusing, with a "drink server" and a "food server." Unless they were kidding. Place is very brightly lit and white inside. Bring sunglasses.
I had not been here since Covid. Love the new look. The Blueberry Muffin was so good. So we're the Eggs Benedict with hash browns. I got mine with bacon instead of ham. Coffee was hot and generous. Food came out quickly and Richie took great care of us. Got 2 of the Blueberry Muffins to go. This is now one of my favorite breakfast spots. And we did get a parking spot right up front.
Grandpa‘s in Dania Beach, Florida. Cute little place, good friendly service, very filling food! Sheri had chocolate chip pancakes, and I had The Hungry Man Breakfast. Average American coffee, $4 per cup (July 2024), good with creamer, C+. The hungry man breakfast is very very very filling! I asked for a little side of the sausage gravy to test it, good, not stellar, B+, I LOVE that it was NOT as salty as most sausage gravies usually are. The everything bagel was toasted just a little too much and added a little more charcoal flavor than I like. The diced sausage and ham in the egg and cheese bagel sandwich were all tasty. The chocolate chip pancakes were very, very chocolatey and very very filling! 3% service fee — hey, I’m a capitalist, great way to compensate for inflation without “raising prices”. Overall restaurant and bathrooms were very, very clean, smell great and designed well.
Not sure if this restaurant is considered a Deli but you can get anything from chicken noodle soup to a turkey sandwich! Every item l ate was good. I will say l found their prices high but l know everything has gone up. Their bagles are huge. And soft to chew. The blueberry muffin is delicious. Their pastrami sandwich while pricey they do give you alot of meat all freash. Very enjoyable restaurant with love in their food. You can also take many deli items to go if you don't have time to sit and dine.
I really wanted to like this place, especially since it brands itself as a New York style restaurant. The space looks clean and modern, which set a good first impression, but unfortunately the food and service were disappointing. The hostess looked visibly fed up and just gave us an annoyed “two?” with no eye contact and our server was an older lady with a cranky vibe. Like a true New Yorker—I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese on a bagel and it was subpar. For the price, the bagel barely had two strips of bacon, minimal cheese, and looked sad. Definitely overpriced for what was served. I won’t go out of my way to revisit. Compared to what’s around locally, it might be passable, but it’s nowhere near an authentic New York bagel experience. Management needs to address customer service asap!

Hubs and I have been waiting for Grandpa's to reopen after showing up a few months ago to try the famous pancakes only to find the place closed and under construction. I called (Sunday morning) to see if they were open to hear on the other end that they were, in fact open. We fired up the Bonnevilles and headed to Dania. We found a parking spot for the 2 bikes and headed inside. We put our name in and told it was a 15min wait. The place was bustling with people in the dining area as well as in the bakery. We waited outside and was greeted by a lady who ended up being the owner. She explains that this is the 4th day since they have been open. She was very nice and welcoming. Once seated we placed our order. Biscuits and gravy and huevos rancheros. When the food arrived, we noticed that the kitchen made another offering on the menu, rancheros wrap. Instead of sending it back, we ate it and it was delicious. I was not sold on the potatoes. The biscuits and gravy was tasty. Being that it was day 4 and they were still working out the kinks, I will give them a pass. Confused kitchen/wait staff is not a big deal but waiting painfully longer than tolerable to get our change from our bill was not okay. You would think they would want to turn over the tables more efficiently being how busy they were. The explanation was there was limited computers. The staff was nice and the food was good. The decor is NY Deli and they were playing CCR greatest hits. Will I give it a second visit? We will just have to see. The whole reason why we wanted to go was the pancakes that were featured on Diners, Drive ins and Dives. And our impression from the owner was their bagels will be what they are famous for. If we do, I will be sure to update this review.
Review update* My second visit to Grampa's reflects similar issues to other guest experiences. The service is very disorganized. Our server visited three tables around us 2-3 times before I called her over to ask her if we could have our coffees we ordered. She forgot completely and apologized. My dish arrived 5-10 minutes before my partner. He received the wrong bagel sandwich and again we had to call over a waitress to explain the wrong dish was served. Our original waitress comes over to explain that another server mixed up the order. We waited another 10 minutes for a new correct order to arrive. Very disorganized and it showed on all the servers faces and attitudes. Management needs to really work on this because it really changed our mind about visiting again. From 4 to 3 stars. Original review: Solid revamp and great touch to a needed NY comfort style diner / deli in south Broward. They have a great walk-up counter to order food to-go, just like in the city. The bagels: dense and fluffy with a great crust. My boyfriend got the "Hungry Man" bagel sandwich (bacon, ham, sausage, and cheese) and I got the L.E.O. omelette (Lox, Egg & Onion). Both delicious. They stick with Grampa's tradition and offered free blueberry crumb cake which was moist and thick! At first boyfriend ordered Hash browns (which looked delish) with his bagel sandwich but then saw the fries and had to make a change. This place was bustling and busy when we arrived at 10:30 Sunday morning and only got busier. We will return for lunch!
Grampa’s, Dania Beach, next to Jaxson’s Plaza. Opened in 1957 and bought and renovated by new ownership in 2021, I hadn't been before. It has legendary status. One of the last few vestiges of original Jewish deli culture in SoFL that remains. Rachel and I shared an “Ultimate BLT” ($17) and a fruit salad ($5). Good diner coffee ($4 each, large mugs with refills). I love the complimentary coffee cake; it is nice and moist. Rachel believes it is oil or margarine-based. Fruit salad was good, with a nice mix of melon, grapes, strawberries, pineapple, and blueberries. BLT is on a white flour-dominant rye bread with caraway, and I didn't love it—a few slices of bacon. The avocado was smashed like avocado toast. The bread was broken and torn when cut, and the presentation was lousy. As a benchmark, the BLT at Dyan’s in Coral Springs blows it away. We did not order bagels, they are $2 each, $3 for flagels and $1 for minis. $25 a bakers dozen. That is INSANE, among the highest bagel prices I've seen locally (I think H&H in Boca is slightly less) We only got a few to go. If you order one at the table it is $4. I didn't bother with the deli; it was all commercial Carnegie stuff. Meh. Likely a one and done with this place.
It is worth visiting this joint at least once, being that this bakery/restaurant has been at that location for decades. The quality of the dishes was good (in comparison to diner food). Tuna melt was definitely the winner for our order. If not anything else, those pastries are worth the visit. Service was friendly, restaurant was clean and setup is unique. Overall a good experience.
No refill on half and half as it sat empty for at least 20 mins or more. The order came out messed up ( open faced roast beef) and bloody. No one wants to eat bloody roast beef. The waitress did fix this quickly but they put cooked roast beef, back on the bloody bread. The open face had no mashed potatoes. She didn't write the order down clear enough. I asked for fries instead of vegetable medley. Instead they sent fries and vegetable medley.. had to ask for mashed potatoes then it was like the fried was a substitute. I didn't ask to substitute fries for mashed potatoes. Easy enough though she fixed that too. The food was not like I absolutely need to eat here again. It was recommended by a friend who said the breakfast was extremely good. Probably should of gotten breakfast. We also had a breakfast sandwich that my daughter said was good. The other daughter had the Italian which both looked good. I don't think I grabbed a photo of the opened face roast beef as we were trying to get what we order as well as not eat bloody raw meat.
This was one of my favorite place to have breakfast before flying out of FLL . It has been a while since I last ate prior to this last occasion. The service was amazing, prompt and very good. The food, not what it used to be. Very pricey for the quality of what you get. I guess all good things must come to an end, I assume this is the case for Grampa's
Grampa's has been on my list since Guy Freri visited years ago only to find out its no longer under that management team. The hostess was nice the wait time was low about 5 to 10 minutes. The service was subpar. There was about a 10 minute wait before a server acknowledged us. There were several servers throughout our meal but none were really exceptional. The customers next to us asked for a plate they never received and they had to get up to get their own utensils from the hostess stand. My boyfriend had the chicken noodle soup which he thought was good on cold south Florida day. They ran out of grits which was my main reason for visiting. I had the pancakes, fries, and sausage. The pancakes and fries were lackluster and the sausage was on the darker side. I had an Arnold Palmer which saved the meal.
If you are hungry or love to eat hot, do NOT come here… the kitchen works fast but the service is horrible… my food stood on a desk for probably 10 minutes before it was delivered to my table… completely cold… nobody from the service team has a sense of urgency… we had to get our own utensils from the hostess station. Seems that food is good but I am giving a 3-star because I couldn’t eat it because I don’t like cold food. Be aware.!!
We used to come here a couple of years ago and we loved the home town vibe. Eversince it's a new management, prices are now ridiculously high which is understandable with the economy but the quality of breakfast doesn't justify it. For two french toasts, it's $10! And the Eggs Benedict was in a very sad looking muffin, with a hashbrown thats way overdone. Breakfast for two people and only 1 ordered coffee, the bill was over $45. We tipped well because she was a good server but the price and quality of the food doesn't match. We should have gone to Jack's Diner in US1 instead for a more affordable better Eggs Benedict or at any breakfast spot along Hollywood Broadwalk beach, which can pricey but at least there's a view.
Had high hopes but was served Burnt food and never got syrup for my pancakes. By the time the waiter came back they were cold so I didn’t get to eat anything but grits. The eggs must have been cooked on high heat too because the outside was crunchy all over but the inside whites was still raw. The waiter was nice. I was charged for the drinks which is fine but each drink was almost 4 dollars which is a ridiculous price for tea and coke. Will never go back!
I came with my fiancé to eat breakfast on this Saturday morning, the waitress was nice at first but at the end she got really upset and rude because of the tip we left her demanding that we tip more and being very weird. The food was very foavorless.
Second review in response to the owner >>>> Updated review: Let me clarify something: I wasn’t trying to sit down and lounge with a bagel 30 minutes before closing. I was grabbing it to go. That alone makes the tone I was met with even more unnecessary. And honestly, your response only doubled down on exactly what I said earlier. It’s disappointing, especially considering I’ve been coming here since I was a kid. You’d think long-time customers would be the last people spoken to like an inconvenience. But here we are. And if this is what you call “doing your best,” that 4.3 rating suddenly makes perfect sense. The food is solid — no argument there. But attitude? Hospitality? Basic kindness? That’s where the wheels fall off. There are a million places to get good food. What keeps people coming back is how you make them feel, and this place has clearly lost the plot on that. Bright kitchen, dim customer service. You can look at my other reviews, I give credit where credit is due, I am not the person who leaves reviews just to complain. It takes a lot for me to write a negative review. And as someone who has was in hospitality/restaurant industry for so many years, I know what awful customer service/hospitality looks like. I wish you the best. Initial review >>>>> I’ve been coming here since I was a kid about 30 years. Walked in around 3:30 to get a bagel today. I knew they were closing soon and intended on keeping my order very simple because I’ve worked in restaurants for over 15 years and I understand how it is. I was just going to get a bagel with cream cheese. Didn’t care what kind I just needed something because I was dizzy from hunger. Had a really back to back day and had no time to eat. When I walked in all the chairs were flipped up already so I thought they may have closed early. There were a few people in the front and no one looked at me when I walked in. I had to ask 3 times if they were open even though google said 4pm. I walked in and again I wasn’t acknowledged at all and all the chairs were already up. The third time a gentlemen responded to me in a very uninviting tone and said “what do you need”. My question was are you “open”. I worked in hospitality for years so I know that up until the last minute if someone asked if we are open the response is always “yes with a smile, what can I do for you”. I wouldn’t respond with “what do you need” while hardly making eye contact and making the guest feel like they are not welcome. I understand they were closing in about 30 minutes, but kindness costs nothing. I felt extremely unwelcomed and told the gentlemen very calmly that his tone wasn’t hospitable at all and I walked out. I would not want anyone with that energy making my food or handling my order. It just unfortunate as someone who has been loyal to this place since childhood. Your staff should be kinder and more welcoming to your patrons. It does not matter how good the food is, great food can be found in many places, it’s hospitality and customer service that truly make a restaurant shine and the mark was absolutely missed today. I was starving and still went elsewhere because of how poorly I was greeted.
My boyfriend and I (a gay couple) walked into this restaurant with our small, hypoallergenic puppy, and from the start the experience was uncomfortable and hostile. We politely asked the woman at the register if it was okay to sit with our puppy. She clearly said yes, no problem. Based on that, we proceeded. However, when we asked to be seated, the host immediately gave us attitude and a cold, dismissive vibe. From the very beginning, his behavior felt aggressive and judgmental. He abruptly said, “The dog needs to be on the floor,” even though the puppy was calmly sitting in my boyfriend’s lap and not bothering anyone. There was no explanation, no professionalism—just a tone of authority and hostility. What made this worse is that our server took our drink order and had absolutely no issue with the dog, which tells me this was not being enforced consistently. Suddenly, the host started yelling across the restaurant—literally raising his voice—for everyone to hear, repeating that “it’s policy” and that the dog must be on the ground. I understand restaurants can have policies. What I cannot accept is being spoken to in a rude, humiliating, and unprofessional way. There is a respectful way to handle these situations, and this was not it. For a so-called family-owned, LGBTQ-friendly business located in the heart of Broward County, an area known for diversity and inclusivity, this behavior was shocking and disappointing. The energy felt hostile, unwelcoming, and frankly homophobic. We were treated like we didn’t belong. If you’re LGBTQ+, or simply expect to be treated with basic respect, be cautious. Hospitality isn’t just about food—it’s about how you treat people. And this place failed miserably.
