Opinions de Big John's Mountain Grill Frazier Park
Great place for breakfast definitely best food I have found in California. With great service and price. Good view of near by Frazier mountain winch is snow caped this time of the year. I definitely recommend this place. Only down fall is limited parking
I'm giving 5 Stars because I love going to Big John's Grill. I haven't been in Frazier Park for four years and only ever visit from Australia and stay on the mountain for a few months at a time when I am here. But when I'm in town, Big John's Grill is one of the places I'll eat at if I'm going out for a meal while in the area. It has quite a large variety of choices on the Breakfast & Lunch menu. It's always consistent in what it serves and the prices are reasonable. And I must say, it was lovely to see Zoya again. She always seems to get bad service reveiws because she doesn't seem to play the part of the welcoming waitress according to folk's expectations but I enjoy seeing her and am grateful she was there today when we popped in for brunch.
Read this place had amazing food so we gave it a try! Wow!!!! An amazing English cook. Best skillet breakfast I’ve had and my husband got the fish and chips and I’ve never seen him eat it all. He loved it. Was told he makes great burgers so we will go back. Highly recommend.
The food is good the people there work hard .
Since my husband and I live in the hot high desert of the Antelope Valley, we enjoy a trip to the mountains once in a while. Big John's has always been a favorite stop of ours for good food, pleasant views and pleasant people. You can't go wrong enjoying a meal here! We haven't tried them in the winter, though, since every time it snows, they close the I-5 Freeway!(not that it snows that much in California these days...)
You won't leave this place hungry! Although it is about 3 miles from the highway it is well worth the drive. The restaurant is clean and cozy and has a very extensive menu. The walls have old time photos of the area for the history buff. We will certainly come back again.
Cozy restaurant with amazing service and good food at a decent price!
Breakfast was excellent. The lady serving us was super nice. I'm from Oklahoma and the biscuits and gravy were spot on. Atmosphere was very home-like. Great experience.
Never seen this, fries with country gravy. Loved that I chose this food. Delicious food & friendly service. Doesn’t get better than this.
Incredible peanut butter and bacon french toast! Great coffee. Great service. Plenty of parking.

Family restaurant that is good alternate to usual interstate 5 food fair. Two easy miles up hill.
I walked in by myself right after 3 very large parties arrived. She was apologetic about the wait. Despite some reviews, she was super nice to me. The food actually arrived faster than expected. The guy is a champion. They served a lot of people quickly and everyone seemed delighted. Another waitress showed up to help her. It's a small town friendly place. The beef was fresh and local!
Have been going to Big Johns for many years! The owners strive for perfection and make all of their customers feel as if we are family. Clean, delicious, cuisine any time of day! One of the best choices for dining in a sleepy, mountain town whether the hills are green or covered with snow! Don't miss this quiet, hidden, gem! Bon appetite!
Traditional american cafe. . Generous portions, reasonable prices, well prepared. We had tuna salad sandwich and chinese chicken salad. Both were good. About 5 minutes off the I-5. Much better than the fast food places near the off ramp.
Big John's Mountain Grill is a great find. We celebrated my nephew's 24th birthday here. His name is John, and we have a great time with the photos out front. The food is awesome. The Eggs Benedict was out of this world, and so was the French toast. The two owners are delightful. Don't believe the other reviews. This place is fun and the food is good. I've already got a trip planned to come back in May.
We both had their steak salad. It was absolutely delicious. We live in Tehachapi and we love coming here just for that steak salad. It’s fantastic with the blue cheese chips and dressing. Steak is nice and tender. I recommend anybody. Hopefully they’re still offering it. Steak salad with blue cheese ❤️

Homey atmosphere, a little cramped. Regularly busy, with their parking lot filled up and forcing you to park on the neighborhood streets. Their standard breakfast burrito is on the best I have ever had. Service can be a little curt, but the food more than makes up for it. Probably the best local mountain diner in the area.
Clean, comfy atmosphere. Very nice waitress. Food was just, huh, so so! My hash browns didn't taste fresh. Eggs were good! Sausage was ehh! Nothing that says WOW!! I mean, I'd eat there again. I really would have been pleased with some fresh hash browns.
The menu sounded great! The food was pretty good. Great coffee. Service was a little slow. Had to fetch my own menus, wasn't offered a coffee refill. Quaint little coffee shop in the mtns. I would go there again if convenient, but wouldn't seek it out when looking for a meal.
A nice place to eat. The food was good and the service was good also.

The food was wonderful but I was not overly impressed with the service. That's not to say I felt the waiting staff was rude, because they weren't but they weren't overly personable or friendly either. It seemed like they just wanted to do what they needed to do and have you move on. Again not rude, but I felt they could have been a little more personable especially because other eating and drinking establishments we went to in town were really super friendly. However the breakfast was absolutely fantastic and I do recommend them alone for the quality of their food. Customer service needs improvement but food is outstanding.
So I live on the mountain , It’s nice to have this place to come for breakfast. The food is very delicious, The pancakes are great. The only & only downfall this place has is the host ( older lady 50s maybe dark hair ). Every time I come in , she’s being rude to server , she ain’t to friendly when placing a order. If you are not happy working here then quit !!!!!
Over priced. Do not get chicken tenders appetizer, you will be disappointed. On the other hand breakfast was great. Delicious. No sharing plates between kids allowed. I have 2 toddlers and had to order two orders, which we're barely eaten. I always order one combo for the both of them. No ala carte.
Decent food. Only true complaint was the waitress made us feel as if we weren't welcome. She gave us the ole, "damn city folk" gaze. Little does she know I grew up in a town away from towns in the middle of Wyoming and I was just taking my kids to see the snow.......otherwise nice place for lunch.
In my humble opinion, this was not a great place. The food was ok, I have been all over the country from Tennessee to Oregon and in between but this place has the worse tasting coffee ever. It tasted like it was percolating using old pennies. But the lady was super nice and no use in complaining.

Went to go grieve my daughters death and spend some time for myself. I usually love mom and pop shops because the atmosphere is very warming, but this time it wasn't like that. The lady that served was very rushy and impatient, even with the elderly group that came. They were so stink cute I felt so bad for them. I wanted fruit with the peanut butter french toast (experimenting really don't like peanut too much lol) but she kept trying to make me not get other fruit in which I didn't being 4 months pregnant I was really hungry didnt want conflict so I got a side of can peaches instead(really wanted the strawberries and blueberries with it) I felt not welcomed and rushed. The cook was sweet besides that, but I'm never coming back because of the server.

The food was good but portions were small. The atmosphere was pleasant, but the waitress was the rudest person I have ever had wait on me at any restaurant ever anywhere. She was also very rude to the couple dining across from us. When the wife took a sip of her husband's coffee the waitress yelled that he was not allowed to share his coffee and that she would need to get her own coffee. WHAT? LITERALLY 1 SIP OF COFFEE. Because of that one experience we had, we have never been back and don't plan too. It's really too bad because I'm sure it's a nice place to done if she was not there. Sorry
2 stars due to good food. HOWEVER, it was like the waitress wanted us to leave. An over 50 lady, burgundy red hair, with an unfriendly, unwelcoming personality served us (unfortunately) because that was our first time. If the owner gets to read this, do something about that lady. Train her to be welcoming, she needs to learn customer service skills, no wonder this place is always empty.
I regret having chosen this restaurant for breakfast. I got the "Mediterranean Skillet" which was so overwhelmingly salty I left nine tenths of it. I really tried to find a way to eat it. The Feta cheese was the LEAST salty part of the dish. I daubed the salt off the eggs to make them edible. The potatoes were watery as well. My husband got the Pecan Pancakes. The cakes were good, but the pecans were caked in sugar. The whole meal was like eating in Mississippi. When I mentioned to the server that the dish was very salty and was probably too salty for many people, she just said "Yeah, yeah. It's the seasoning used on the potatoes." They don't have a choice about what they spice their food with?
Definitely didn't feel the welcome feeling walking in. No smile, no small talk, just a plain hood morning. Food was OK. Definitely could've done without the coffee. Not good at all.
Rancid oil was really really sour and spoiled my appetite. Friendly service and cute atmosphere.

My pancakes tasted old . My sons chicken fried steak was like rubber . My grandson who is 5 yr old wanted 2 hot dogs without the bun . The lady who is rude said she had to charge me for 2 kids meals because she did not know what to charge for extra hot dog . He did not get 2 drinks or 2 fries which came with kids meal. As hot dog sat there it got all wrinkled . $73 for a gross breakfast plus worst customer service ever . Don’t waste your money
We have been going to this place a little over a year. When we went there. There was always the same waitress, who wasn't very nice in the first place. But because we were about 5 people we always tipped at least 20%. Anyway so today we went there and when we came in we waited about 15 minutes tell we can be seated. Then when we were finally seated, we waited like 20 minutes tell she actually came. And then when she arrived my mom said quietly to herself finally. Then she said "you know what honey don't go there with me" and my mother said don't talk to me like that "I am a customer and deserve respect". Then she said it a very loud and aggressive voice " you get out" and began to pick up the menus and pointed towards the door saying "get out" when we were already leaving. Then while we were getting out of the table the space was really tight my little sister was moving out she pushed her with her hand firmly on the shoulder. Then when we walked out the door and she yelled out of the door don't ever come back and slammed it and locked it. But overall the food always came out cold and sometimes took forever to get there. The only good customers are locals and they don't have anywhere to go so big John can roll the mountain.
For what I paid I expected better. The stuffed pancakes had no flavor. The strawberries were bitter, I couldn't finish it. It left a bad taste in my mouth. The country fried steak was too chewy. At least the eggs, hash brown and sausage links were good.. I guess this place is not for me
The staff was overwhelmingly rude. The food had so much salt I could not get past the first bite. So I purchased a small side to tide me over till I got home and sent my dish back minus one bite, of course I was charged full price for all of it. I wouldn’t feed a pig the slop they serve, and their attitude seals the deal. Highly recommend avoiding.
I’ve been coming here ever since I was a kid with my family. And the main owner was being very very rude. I didn’t like how she was talking to us. So unprofessional for her to run a business like that. And on top of that when we had just got our food she was rushing us out trying to get us to pay and leave when we had just got our food. So we took our time to eat and when we finally had paid she was really rude and I had asked her was she was rushing us out and started to tell us if we didn’t like it to not come back at all. So I honestly didn’t like how the owner was treating us. For that I will no longer come back here again.
The food was good no doubt. I didn’t like how the main owner was treating. She kept being rude. She was also rushing us out when we had just got our food. And when I asked her why she was rushing us out she gave me a rude comment. Saying if I didn’t like it to not come back. I like the food here so does my family. But I would not be coming here anymore just because of her rudeness. For that I’ve really rate this place a 1 star.
Horrible food cooked on stinky seed oil could even eat the hash browns that they gave me bad after taste the California omelette was very plain coffee was tasteless
My girlfriend and i waited over an hour for this place to open, excited to try out a new place with rumored good food. Unfortunately, what we were served was half baked, and underwhelming. First, my gf eggs Benedict was served soggy and specifications on how she wanted her eggs served was opposite that which she requested. Her hashbrowns were raw and and she requested extra crispy. When she asked to have the hashbrowns redone the owner brought them back oily and even more inedible by recooking them in old oil. The corn beef hash I ordered was undercooked and my scrambled eggs tasted like powdered eggs. Overall, the food was horrible. The owner was catatonic, expressionless, and didn’t seem to care to make us feel appreciated. Never going back sadly.

This is the worst customer service experiences I’ve had in my life. The owner displayed a hostile environment, shouting at the top of her lungs in a very rude way, showing a shocking lack of professionalism and respect. Their tone and behavior were dismissive and inappropriate, especially coming from the owner of the business. On top of that, the establishment itself had an unpleasant odor, which only added to the negative experience. When the owner behaves this way, it reflects directly on the entire business. We were so traumatized with their behavior. If you wanted to be treated as a human, do not come here. Believe with the previous reviews about their attitude which we did not do before coming here.
I am one of the children who was present during this visit, and the experience was extremely upsetting. As soon as we entered the restaurant, the owner raised her voice and told us to bring our drink outside in a very rude manner. Shortly after, she yelled repeatedly, “Close the second door,” four times at me/my sibling, not even allowing a few seconds for it to be closed. Her tone was consistently irritated, and she groaned instead of speaking respectfully. We were seated near the door with our baby sibling, and it was very cold each time customers went in and out to use the restroom. When my family politely asked if we could move to another table, we were told we could not because of the high chair. We explained that we were willing to hold the baby so we could relocate, but the response was hesitant and unaccommodating, which made us feel unwelcome. When we attempted to give her our order, she responded sharply, “I’m not your waiter,” rather than calmly directing us to the appropriate staff member. The overall atmosphere felt hostile and uncomfortable, especially for children. We ultimately chose to leave because we were shaken by the way we were treated. This was the most negative dining experience we have ever had. If a zero-star rating were possible, that is what I would give.
I went to this restaurant and it was a nightmare. The owner was completely unprofessional yelling at customers over the smallest things, whining about doors being open, and blatantly ignoring any basic sense of customer service. The staff were chaotic and clearly untrained. Her behavior caused me real stress and made the whole experience emotionally exhausting. I have never felt so unwelcome or disrespected at any restaurant. Avoid this place at all costs.
Horrible horrible,. Creepy and unkempt. The service was very bad. The lady judged us for what we ordered... we got ice teas and even that was ify... she gave us a hard time for the refills. The food was awful and we literally took it (to throw away elsewhere) bc the lady kept telling us it was enough food for us and why are we leaving it all. (Bc it didnt taste good.) It was oily, and heavy. My daughter got biscuits and gravy, I got French toast thinking it was safe. . I was wrong. (All bad) and expensive
I have to update you on the terrible service and food here. It is absolutely egregiously disgusting and the service and performance of the owner and their wife is unacceptable. Under-performing is a kind comment for the vile, hateful experience I had. Coming in feeling sad from a fathers passing they threw plates at me and gave me attitude then deflected their attitude on me. When I explained and kindly mentioned they were complete jerks they yelled at me and threw plates. They were absolute jerks to anyone having a fine morning, I understand people have bad days - as I was having a shockingly overwhelming one… but I do not accept being treated poorly and decided to write this review. Not once did they reflect my behavior — they merely were just out of hand without a reasonable response to any offensive actions. This This is my third time coming here and 2/3 there were bad vibes and definitely bad food 3/3 times. Black bear diner for me, I’ll only be here 2 months. You all have a wonderful life, I’m shocked you’re open.
It's one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to. I was meeting my family to get a new puppy for our family, and this place was where we collectively decided to meet up. When we got there, I was reprimanded immediately for bringing in a water bottle and was told I had to take it out by a man in the kitchen. I didn't hear him at first, and the waitress asked if I heard him. When I said I didn't, she rudely repeated what he said. I've recently had surgery, and this bottle tracks my water intake, so it is always with me. Nonetheless, I put it in my car. She then asks how many people. I explained that it was a big party and if that was okay. She huffed and guffawed and resigned herself to say yes. We should've all turned away then, but being that we all were in unfamiliar territory, we stayed. She rushed our drink order, and when she brought our drinks, she was clearly annoyed that there were drinks to be served. After that, she rushed our food order but kept getting frustrated when we told her what we wanted. The food didn't take long to get, which was good. It all smelled delicious and looked really good. However, it took a turn fast. My 2 older daughters found hair in each of their dishes. One had a long hair strand , and the other had a short one. The strands were dark colored and my children have beautiful red hair. Then, my brother in law found a hair in his food. You see, my girls pulled the hair out of their food and let it fall to the ground and didn't tell anyone until my BIL said there was hair in his food. When this was brought to the waitresses' attention, she appeared to be blind and could not see the hair, so we separated it from the food, placed it on the napkin, and she went to tell someone. About 5 minutes later, she came back and said, "The hair was on the cheese. He did not have cheese, so whose plate did this come from?" As if she didn't see us fiddling with the food on the plate. I told her that it was not cheese but runny yolk. She huffed again, rolled her eyes, and walked away. She came back with our tabs. She removed my BIL plate from the ticket but said nothing about my daughter's plates. I will never go here again, and I hope other people read this review and proceed with caution when going to this restaurant.
My chocolate and peanut butter pancakes were terrible. The skin on the pancakes was crusty and chewy and the inside mushy and flat. $14 for 2 pancakes is ridiculous. I thought the chocolate and peanut butter, especially the peanut butter were going to be real, but they were flavored chips like the ones you would put in cookies. They weren't even melted and were not described on the menu as chocolate chips or peanut butter chips, so I thought they would have been the real deal but no. French fries were requested to be well done, but I have a feeling they were not a fresh batch cooked well done, I thing the cook just dumped the old stale fries back in the fryer and then served and I don't think he resalted them because I couldn't taste the salt. Server seemed to only be able to do one thing at a time. When we attempted to ask for something, just after she had left another table with their request, she didn't even let us finish or get two words out, "excuse me" she cut us of and abruptly said, "just a minute". in a tone of voice that suggested we were being bothersome or we were interrupting her. I will say, the inside of the diner was kinda nice. It had a little cafe/diner style bar and several tables, that, as far as I could tell, were clean. All in all, overpriced and poor quality food and service. Wouldn't recommend getting off the freeway and traveling the 4 or 5 miles out of our way to go to this quaint, little diner. If you do decide to chance it and try this place, I wouldn't. Unfortunately, not worth the time, or money, this establishment added to our trip. $14 for 2 pancakes? C'mon, get a clue. Even if the pancakes were stuffed with gold,(as I explained earlier, technically they weren't even stuffed) I would not order stuffed pancakes, or any other style or "flavor" for that matter. Sorry, I won't ever return nor would I suggest that anyone I know visit this place. So sorry......NOT! SUGGESTION (to the owner/manager [if there even is one])- Update the menu to have more detailed and accurate descriptions of the food items and hire a server that can multitask (min. at least 2 tasks at a time) with a better attitude. Good luck

Good luck
