Opinions de Kakuna Sushi Fremont
This is absolutely amazing! Sashimi Deluxe was the best! Every piece was made in heaven! The rolls were huge and amazingly delicious! The soft shell crab as an appetizer was so crispy. Everything deserved 5 stars. I’d definitely come back.
If you’re looking for a top-notch Japanese sushi experience, this restaurant is a must-visit. The omakase set features a luxurious selection of fresh seafood, beautifully presented, and surprisingly, the price is very reasonable for the quality you get.
Excellent spot for sushi at an affordable price. Many of the specialty rolls are about 12$ which is cheaper compared to many other sushi spots I have visited before. The taste also either is similar or beats the other sushi spots I have been to. I have tried several different rolls (Sumo, Dragon, Kakuna, to name a few) and honestly they are all on par with each other. Pick any specialty roll and you can't go wrong. I'd definitely come back!
Added to my list of “most favorite restaurants in the Bay Area” It’s very hole in the wall, no frills, come for the food type of place. Highlights: - prices! We went during happy hour (1-2pm and 7pm to closing) and we got the crunch roll (2 rolls for $12!) - self serve hot tea (genmaicha?) and water. The tea was flavorful! - service was fast and friendly Taste: the good: We got miso soup, and a baked roll (forgot the name…) and crunch roll. All were 5/5 So-so: Their donburi bowls had too much rice for our liking. Salmon skin roll was ok Other notes: - Didn’t get a chance to try their sashimi because I’m pregnant so we will definately be back! - yes they only have 6 tables and no restroom because the place is small
The food was good. Huge selection of deep fried, baked and cooked sushi.
It's nice and clean. Very polite people. Plenty of Wasabi and Ginger. There Bento Boxes 🍱 are nice cheap and very filling if you want to get something other than Sushi🍣 from Raw, Cooked, or Deep Fry I would like to try them all someday. I like there Pork Belly Ramen 🍜.
Good sushi. Reasonable Price. Friendly staff (Ms. Dieu) We came during Happy Hours (after 7 p.m) so we ordered 4 rolls and got 2 rolls free $15/person (tips included)
The sushi at Kakuna was fresh, generous in portion, and delicious. The restaurant itself is very small and not particularly great to dine at, but the service was pleasant and there’s plenty of parking if you decide to eat there. I probably will do what most people do - order out - next time I go. You know a place is good when there’s a steady stream of people coming in on a Monday night to pick up orders!
Checked this place out because of the great reviews. Got a bento for takeout - grilled pork belly, sashimi, and veggie tempura. Everything was tasty and well cooked. The gyoza was also surprisingly delicious. The sashimi was fresh and melt-in-your mouth good. The tempura retained its light crispiness even after a 15 minute wait in its sealed plastic container (boooooooo on the plastic!). The staff were super polite and friendly. Only complaint is they forgot to put the tempura sauce in my bag, and I bet that would have put the tempura over the top. Kinda bummed about that, but I'm still giving them 5 stars because everything else was on point.

Recently feel like their sushi Rolls have more rice than before?!!! hopefully they will bring back the original version. I know they have expanded and hopefully that bar that they have should be put to good use such as selling Vietnamese coffee or Thai tea. I don’t have any photo this time but next time I will show you about the rice that I’m talking about too much rice blunts to taste of the entire sushi
In town for a family event, price was good and reasonable. The place isn't a fancy place but their food was delicious. My wife had the OMG which is a great description of the dish. It was great. My dishwas a spicy chicken which was a little on the mild side for me, however the Shrimp Tempura was great and the California Roll was super fresh. Best I've had since the old days in Carmel! Service was great, Price was excellent Food was Good and yes I would visit again.

It was good. There’s a good variety of items in the menu. The staff was friendly, and the place is reasonably clean. Food wise, it was OK for the things that I ordered and the price is in line with what you would find everywhere else except for the Toro, which was rather expensive in my opinion. The black garlic Ramen was actually better than expected other than the eggs was fully boiled. I believe the eggs in the Ramen should be more like custard texture, which this one is not. The hand roll was a nice size as you can see in the picture. For now, I’ll give you the four star across the board, but I will go back to try some other dishes to give the final verdict.
This place had the stickiest floors I've ever stepped foot on. Reminds me of the floor of a movie theater after someone spilled soda. They don't wipe their chairs so half of the chairs at my table had food on them... Despite being a small restaurant with a few tables, they are SO slow. They also forgot to bring one of the 4 items we ordered. Now on the bright side, the kakuna roll I ordered was delicious and looked just like the pictures.
Ordered for pick up and the service was good. Affordable prices; the rolls and sushi salad wasn't anything out of the ordinary. We got the lion king and a fried roll with salmon and tuna. They satisfied our sushi craving. Likely won't be back unless it's convenient.
2nd update: The sushi rolls are definitely delicious, but still unequal in sizes and difficult to eat. Two of the rolls were very soft, and one roll was not sliced at all, just kept as a whole roll. We had to cut by ourselves. ...... We tried this sushi place from Fremont for the first time. Definitely the sushi here taste slightly different (in a good way) and the quantity is more than reasonable for the price. The fish is soft, feel fresh, and real crab meat was used. Order was ready on time as well. Even though each sushi was different, I wish the individual sizes were consistent. We found individual slices from two rolls to be large enough that it was difficulty to eat in one go. We will try this place again and overall it is a nice sushi restaurant that I can recommend.

Casual spot with fusion-style sushi rolls—lots of sauce, so not fully authentic but still tasty. Highly recommend the Bang-Bang Shrimp, Spicy Soy, and Vegetarian Krunch rolls. Usually, there’s no long wait.
Been going to this place for several years. All their sushi rolls are very good and are a good value. I tried their Black Garlic Ramen and was not impressed. Really good portion size but the pork belly were chewy cut into cubes rather than thinner slices. The broth was just OK. The pork belly was a little chewy with an off-putting seasoning. I would strongly suggest ordering their rolls over their ramen. Lots of seating ever since their expansion. Plenty of free parking. Yes to the rolls, and a pass to their ramen. Update: their rolls are all excellent. Great portion size, very fresh and tasty, and priced right. My go to sushi roll place.
Great food, service to be improved. The kitchen closed without fulfilling our order today. Not sure what happened. But we left hungry and there was no explanation from the wait staff. Hopefully better service next time.

It's more like a takeout place. The sushi we ordered was loaded with sauce. Definitely not authentic, it is more americanised. Spicy tuna was ok compared to the other rolls. The rolls are super big and it's difficult to eat as one piece. It's pretty cheap for the portions served. There is no public restroom as well :(

The place is, well, forget the place, let’s talk about food. Soft shell crab - did not look good. Flat and squished. It was fishy and the taste was off, seriously off. I think it was rotten. Worst soft shell crab I’ve ever eaten in my life. Tempura- the veggies were good, I didn’t even bother with the shrimp since it looks like they cook it the same way as the soft shell crab, same batter too. Just stick with veggie tempura. I have never seen any restaurant had tempura came with 2 types of batters, unless it is one of those udon places that sells tempura by individual pieces. Chirachi sushi- big portion. Shashimi were fishy, definitely not fresh. Taste weird too. The only good thing about it was the fresh chopped mustard pickled on top. Salmon Kama - bland but decent. 2 stars for the vegetable tempura and Kama. Worse sushi/sashimi place ever. I do not recommend this place.
Went to try out their AYCE option. Server seemed annoyed. Don't do it. Didn't get a chance to try the food. Service was non existent. Once order was finally placed, server alerted us that our ticket had not made it to the kitchen. This was after waiting for almost 30 minutes.... was low key relieved when he said they hadn't started making anything. We made our get away and went to sake 2 me down the street!! (Amazing as always) Don't trust the influencers promoting Kakuna, very limited menu for AYCE. Should have been a big red flag when we got there and the place was almost empty. Server spent more time dancing and skipping through the restaurant then checking in on his very few tables.
