One of the better Indian restaurant around here. Love the curry dishes, vegetarian, and especially the seafood selection. Service is excellent as well. Couldn’t ask for more! Try the tikka masala with spicy, butter chicken, fish masala, fish thali, daal fry, and kolhapuri anything (spicy and delicious). Popular with Tesla Fremont employees - I heard Elon Musk comes here sometimes and is a fan ;) Will happily come back and recommend to friends!!
What a wonderful discovery of authentic goan and South Indian style curry. Loved their Kashmiri soda, prawn masala and fish thali. Special recommendation for Dal. A must visit place that brought back all memories of my childhood food. Amongst the very scanty places that serve sol kadi. Don’t miss their gulab jamun will take you back when we made it at home. Pure bliss with a wonderful manager, staff and ambience
If you’re looking for truly comforting, flavor-packed Indian food in the Bay Area, this is the spot. I don’t write a lot of reviews, but this place absolutely deserves the love. We’ve been coming here for a while now, and I can honestly say the food never disappoints. It’s the kind of place that keeps pulling you back in—weekday, weekend, doesn’t matter. The taste? Always on point. The service? Even better. What really sets this place apart is Abdul, the owner. He’s warm, kind, and goes out of his way to make every guest feel welcome. Every time we visit, he greets us personally—both before and after the meal—and it’s that extra touch that makes the experience feel so special. Now, let’s talk food. The Balti Paneer and Dal Fry are to die for—like, can’t-stop-scooping-every-last-bite good. My friend swears by the Shrimp Balchao, and Abdul told us he handpicks recipes from across India, curating a menu that reflects different regions and his own creativity. You can tell every dish has been crafted with love and pride. And sure, the restaurant might not look fancy from the outside—but don’t let that fool you. If you’re craving bold, authentic, dhaba-style food, this is your place. It’s comfort food at its absolute best.
Awesome food. Authentic taste. Thalis are very good in both quality and quantity.
I love their chole kulcha. It’s the best I had in USA. Me and my husband frequently go to this place and we tried almost everything on their menu.
This restaurant has become our go-to spot for authentic and flavorful food. The owner and his staff always make us feel at home, making each visit a pleasure. Our cravings are easily satisfied by their delicious sabudana vada, a favorite of my child. The balti paneer is simply delectable, and the naan is always freshly made and they get "crispy" just right when I ask for it. I highly recommend trying their specials and other regional dishes - they're well worth it! While the ambiance might be just okay, it is clean. The food is undeniably top-notch and keeps us coming back for more. If you’re looking for a place that consistently delivers on taste and hospitality, look no further!
If you enjoy coastal Indian food, Mumbai Chowk is the place to go! All of their fish curries or prawn curries are out of this world! Their Balti paneer and Daal will leave you licking your fingers! And probably the best naan in the Bay Area!! Abdul is a perfect host! I have been telling him to apply for Michelin Star!! He can easily get it!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
To start from the end: Mumbai Chowk/Fremont is a "must-go" place. Very highly recommend it. The owner, Abdul, is hyper focused on providing a great experience for all guests. The food is simply sumptuous, very tasty and to-point. Thalis are great options to taste varieties and they import fresh fish from India - perfect place for coastal cuisine. There is more. Recently we had a group of 28 people at our home, and to my surprise, we discovered Mumbai Chowk caters too. We were floundering, Abdul helped us finalize choices and also guided us to correct quantities. We were very nervous as to how it would be go. Turned out to be excellent !! Guest loved the food, there was plenty of quantity. Abdul had even included some extras. We now have a go-to place for dinners and catering. Mumbai Chowk/Fremont is a "must-go" place. Very highly recommend it.
My husband and I come here very frequently for two reasons - the food here is really good, and there’s a really nice uncle (owner) who greets us at the door with a warmth that reminds us of home. Everything we’ve tried off the menu has been really good, just like street stalls from Mumbai. Our favorites are the kala khatta and kashmiri soda for drinks, chole kulcha, misal paav, tavaa pulav, and chaat for veg food, and shrimp sukha and fish thaali for meats. This place is must visit if you’re from Maharashtra and are tired of eating North Indian at every Indian restaurant you go to.
This was a great find and some absolutely delicious food. Tried the Pomfret thali. A full fried pomfret, pomfret curry, sol kadi, vegetables, dal, rice, 2 rotis, will be sure to fill you up. The chhole entree comes with an Amritsari kulcha which was delightful. Also try the appetizer. Superb vada-pav! Always great to see an owner-operator. Would definitely recommend a try.
Stumbled upon this small dhaba style place after recently moving into the area. The owner is genuine and passionate about his restaurant and that things are made the way they are back in India. They don’t overuse oil and a lot of stuff is made from scratch,l including the mouth freshener! I think they’re pretty proud of their fish which looks super authentic which is what I would recommend getting! So is Amritsari chole. Really proper.
We love Mumbai Chowk ever since me and my family tried their food a few months ago, we've come time and time again for the excellent food but also the welcoming atmosphere. I have literally never experienced a restaurant that make exceptions for kids. My kids eat non spicy food and I asked if they had a kids menu. The owner of the restaurant said that they could easily make aloo parathas for my kids and they loved it. During our next visit they also offered to make non spicy fish Koliwada served with tangy tamarind chutney which my kids loved! We as adults got to enjoy the spicy fish and chicken thaali which were really delicious and yet my kids got a treat of their own. Never have I experience so much care and kindness at any restaurant in atleast this last decade. I can easily say that I've become their life long patron. Other veggie dishes that we've tried and liked also include the tawa pulao, misal and Pav Bhaji.
Absolutely delicious! I was completely shocked by all the horrid reviews, got thumbs up all around from family. Fish was tender, buttery, and delicious, came out piping hot. Everyone working was super welcoming and nice, making sure to describe each dish carefully. Overall 10/10!!
We got a bunch of different fish Thalis, curries and chaat. Overall, the promfret thali has great sides and I especially loved the promfret curry and Solkadhi. My friends loved the Goan curries too, which had a good amount of spice. I thought the bombil fry was very flavorful but a little dry. The owners are very friendly and talking to them made our visit even better! Highly recommended to visit for the fish dishes and solkadhi.
I'm always on the lookout for Malvani and Goan restaurants, and Mumbai Chowk is by far the best find! We tried the fish thali and Malvani chicken, and both dishes were absolutely delicious. The flavors were authentic and perfectly prepared. The owner, Abdul, is incredibly warm and friendly, happily customizes meals to our taste, and personally checks in after meals to ensure everything is perfect. The restaurant itself is spacious and spotlessly clean, creating a welcoming atmosphere. I highly recommend this place for anyone craving flavorful Malvani food!
Much needed 'Taste of Mumbai' Restaurant in the area. We have been to Newark's Mumbai Chowk and liked the taste so when we saw it coming to this location we were waiting for it. And on the first visit, it did not disappoint!! We ordered Sabudana Wada, Pavbhaji and Misal Paav. All three had authentic Mumbai taste. Sabudana Wada was nice and crispy from the outside. It was served with Tamarind chutney and green chutney... It would taste even better with Dahi I feel. Pavbhaji was so buttery and it had very homey taste. Unlike other few Pavbhajis in the bay area where they overload it with spices. Perfect subtle taste to Bhaji. Misal is Mamledar Misal style, Made of Watana and it is spicy 🔥 like how Misal should be! "It isn't a Puneri or Kolhapuri Misal", said the owner talking about it. He seems passionate about taste and preparation styles. He said, this location is going to be more focused on coastal cuisine. We can't wait to try more of what this place has to offer.
Food was very good. We tried: Shrimp Sukha - very good. It has a coconut base Pomfret Fry - awesome. The right crispy outside and soft inside. Butter Naan - very good. It was soft fluffy and not too thick Sol Kadi - I got this to-go. It was good. I have had better though. I don’t have the best photos because we forgot to take them as soon as the food came. Service - very prompt, courteous. I think it was the owner that took our order and they were very good about sharing information and giving recommendations. For a weekday evening it was decently full. Plenty of parking spots available. The restaurant is the same as where Sala Thai was and if my memory serves me right, the decor hasn’t been changed. I would definitely recommend and come back myself with the family
Mumbai Chowk is a hidden gem! The dining area has such a cozy and welcoming vibe — perfect for a relaxed meal. I had the chicken tikka masala and some garlic naan, and wow… both were absolutely delicious. The flavors were rich and authentic, and that naan was perfectly crisp with just the right amount of garlic. I’d definitely come back next time I’m in the area. Highly recommend for anyone craving solid Indian food in Fremont!
Delicious food haven for Seafood 🍤 lovers! A must go place if you are in town. We called the owner upfront and he was kind enough to serve us ”Thali” on a Friday Afternoon(usually they don’t offer). I was visiting from Seattle for a short trip and this casual Friday lunch was the highlight 😋
I've already reviewed the Mumbai Chowk at Newark and the same owners have opened a new place in Fremont. The same taste and flavor consistency can be found here, my favorite dish has been the surmai(fish) Thali, but i recently tried their owner Abdul's special dish the Chicken Makhanwaala curry and gotta say it's my new favorite!
Good place for indian coastal food especially if your are from Maharastra or Goa. The service is fast and their lunch specials are decent portion for single person. The owner makes sure to check with you if you are satisfied with the service which adds a good personal touch. They also have one more location in Newark.

Great food, highly recommended! I liked the biryani, balti chicken, and methi chicken. Also, they’re known for their fish.
Do check out their weekend specials. We ordered the bombil thali and surmai thali. For the price, the portions were generous and the fish was fresh, crisp on the outside, soft and flavorful on the inside.

Mumbai Chowk serves delicious staples and coastal Indian food! Personally I haven’t had Indian seafood dishes but their Pomfret fish fry thali is one our favorites! the goan fish curry, chicken kolhapuri, and butter chicken are some of other favorites!
Amazing, authentic food! My husband is from Mumbai and this is his favorite restaurant. The fish thalis are incredible. The owner even accommodates my gluten allergy by replacing the oil they fry the fish in so it isn’t cross contaminated. Please go support this very special restaurant.
Best maharashtrian cuisine in the Bay Area. My go to dishes as a vegetarian: Any chat Chole Kulcha (Best kulcha ever) Pav bhaji Special drink: Kashmiri soda. Can’t recommend them enough.

The new location is much bigger compared to Newark and plenty of parking spaces. Misal pav is my favorite dish here. The spice has a different kick for the Misal Pav. It is different compared to served in other restaurants in bay area. The lunch combos looked good, yet to try myself.
Tried Mumbai Chowk last night and loved it. The misal came bubbling in its spicy gravy, caution it’s extremely hot. Sabudana vada were crisp outside, fluffy inside, with just a hint of roasted‑peanut. On the non‑veg side, balti chicken was s tender, we had a non-veg tho as well and it just average. Friendly, fast service and fair prices.
Went here with my friends, got the daily special, a fish curry our server recommended and Chicken biryani. Overall the food was good but that fish curry was phenomenal, flaky and buttery, pairing super well with the basket of naan which was a good value in my opinion. For the chicken it was a little disappointing because of the biryani had dry-ish chicken but still good flavor. The chicken daily special curry tasted very similar to a Tikka masala, still good but nothing special. overall it was a great meal, good service, and yummy food!

Home like Maharashtrian food. Service is amazing. I requested chapati(not on their menu) instead of roti and they were more than happy to offer.
We went for dinner. We tried street food snacks and keema paav. Food was too oily. The vadpav nd misal were okay.

We came here for time we ordered Dani chaat and it’s too sour 😒
Say hello to the historic take out blunder. We entered the store and ordered take out. There were two small parties in the restaurant so not at all crowded for the Sunday night. We waited for more than 25 mins which was okay. Our order was all vegetarian and was handed over after 25 mins of waiting. Upon reaching home (10 miles away), we sat down and opened our food. The veg Frankie we ordered had 'chicken' in it (photos attached). The kothimbir vadi was dry on the inside. The masale bath was oily and the paneer Frankie was disgustingly bad. I don't understand how are they still surviving with such a low quality food. With one order on hand (as other guests were already served), they successfully managed to mess it up. We threw out most of the things we ordered and had to order from elsewhere. Such a disappointment. I hope to get my money back and am never returning to this restaurant again.
Probably went when there was limited service help but there was an old gentleman who complete ruined our experience trying to serve us food. We indicated the rice was uncooked and even asked him to try. Instead he justified indicating that its how its made. My wife ended up with stomach pain trying to eat that while rest of my family didn't eat it. What's disappointing is the repeated justification telling the customer that they are incorrect instead of taking it back and try fixing it with something else. He didn't even feel a bit of remorse taking money from us for the dish. I wouldn't go here at all in future.
Save your health, save your money… my husband and i got sick after eating their stale food… the food is extremely low quality with no flavor. We ordered chicken frankie, cheese pav bhaji and samosa chat, none of the dishes were fresh, definitely old and stale. Chicken frankie was horrible, all it had were just spices thrown in some flavorless old gravy, my husband barely had half of it and felt sick to his stomach. Cheese pav bhaji was served totally tasteless with not a shred of freshness. After having their food we felt that we paid to get sick.
As someone who grew up in the coastal region of Maharashtra, I know my fish. It is easy to tell the difference between Bangda and Surmai by both shape and taste & fish bone, yet what was served did not match what was ordered. While we respect food enough to finish our meal and leave quietly, it is incredibly disrespectful to misguide paying customers by serving the wrong items. This is completely unacceptable. The service was lacking, but more importantly, nothing we ate captured the authentic flavors of Maharashtra. If you are looking for a genuine coastal taste, this isn't it. We value good food, but we also value honesty in what is being served.
Don’t be misled by the reviews about their food. The fish here is stale and completely inedible. We tried the vada pav, Surmai thali, and Bombil thali. The vada pav was decent, but they added the chutneys directly to it. I would have preferred them on the side so I could adjust the flavors to my liking. The Surmai was raw, and when I mentioned it to the cashier/owner, she explained that the cut piece is thick, it’s imported from India, and they cannot cut it thinner. The Bombil thali was so bad I couldn’t eat a single piece of the fish. It was dry and tough. The sukat (dry fish chutney) didn’t have any dried fish in it—it was just onions and some spices. The gulab jamun was hard and disappointing. The only thing I liked was the solkadhi. The service was either poor or understaffed. Overall, this place is substandard and empty, which honestly doesn’t surprise me.

This place is not the Mumbai Chowk in Newark. Using the same name misleads folks. This is not even a Mumbai cuisine per se. It is more Malabari or Mangalorian. For a vegetarian going to this restaurant, it feels like a scam. Worse is that the owner comes out trying to be legit and claim that a certain recipe is his mothers', but when you ask a couple of follow up questions, you learn pretty fast that it is a fake story and perhaps that mother is AI. Hat tip for effort and service, but not honest to the brand nor good food or vibes.
