This place serves straight up authentic Shanghainese food at a reasonable price! Although their Chinese name suggests their specialty is noodles, they also do an excellent job on classic dishes. Their 苔条鱼, Shanghai style spring rolls, and meat mooncakes are delicious. These home style snacks are hardly seen most places in the US and even uncommon in the Bay Area. As of July 2021, they are take out only. Will need to head back and try their noodle soups when they open for dine in.
Love their noodle soup!! Really authentic Shanghaiese food, from small dishes like pancake, egg roll, Wonton to hot dishes like sweet and sour pork ribs, fish fillet and XLB, I can taste the flavor from my hometown. Food is not greasy at all but still delicious. The restaurant is also very clean and servers are very friendly.
Absolutely delightful Chinese restaurant in Fremont CA. A friend of mine and me stumbled upon this place and we were looking for any place because we're starving and we found this place. Reasonably priced and great food I might add and they gave us free hot soup along with our meal and there was a public space right next to this restaurant where there were benches you can sit and enjoy your meal. Another hidden gem found and I can't say enough of this place and highly recommend!
My favorite Chinese in the area. Best hot and sour soup anywhere. Some favorites include their salt and pepper pork chops shredded pork and onion noodle, and fish and wine sauce. Very clean place and wonderful service.
Offers really authentic Shanghainese food. Spicy pork and special eel noodle are on our must-order list. Highly recommend it!
This restaurant has an original flavor of Shanghai cuisine. There are several courses with typical Shanghai flavor which attract many Shanghainess around bay area who are willing to drivi more than 50 miles to enjoy a meal here.
Very good Shanghai food. The pork leg, the Shanghai style rice goes very well together. One thing to note is that they don't allow you to split the bill. ;)
Very friendly staff and fair price. Most importantly, authentic Shanghai style Chinese food that makes me feel like home!
My favorite Shanghai restaurant in the East Bay. Small, clean, reasonably priced with prompt, friendly service. Oh, and delicious!
Small family run place ordered takeout and it was excellent. Vegetarian fried rice and salt and pepper tofu was really well done
Service and food... Only way to get 5 stars. My Chinese buddies tell me this place is as good as it gets over here. Reasonable prices too.
Food: Verified by our coworker from Shanghai: AUTHENTIC. The flavors are really great! Especially their pot! You get so many things, including glass noodles, vegetables, seafood and meat; and the broth! Best taste ever. Their steam rice is really good as well and definitely be mindful with their portion haha. Ambiance: clean and comfortable! Service: can’t describe how welcoming and attentive the staff were. We’re offered good recommendations and service. Personally, I spoke mandarin and bringing someone who can speak mandarin does make a difference!
First time visit at Shanghai Flavor. On a whim, we were looking for Hong Kong Style food but ended up here, thanks to Google. We sure are glad because food was delicious and service was excellent. The server was impressed at our food selection cause it seemed like we knew what we were doing. Thanks to the reviews, we simply chose what most reviewers order. After enjoying our meal, we surveyed other guest's food selection. There's more to taste in our next visit. Looking forward to trying other entrees in the menu. It's pricey here but portions are good. We highly recommend this place.
Operated by two women from Shanghai, authentic Shanghai cuisine. Huge portions and great taste. They even have 咸蛋黄青团just for the season. Will definitely come back!
Stumbled upon this place after playing badminton nearby—what a hidden gem! Authentic Shanghai flavors at a great price. We had 7-8 people, and it was only $22 per person—unbelievable for the Bay Area! Must-try: • Xiao Long Bao: thin skin, juicy, super flavorful • Yu Xiang Pork: well-balanced spice and tang • Salt & Pepper Ribs: crispy and addictive • Stir-fried Water Bamboo: rare to find here • Tofu Soup: warm and comforting Clean space, friendly staff. Will definitely be back!
Authentic and delicious food. We lunch special black bean fish filet, lunch special broccoli chicken, an order of xiao long bao, an order of green onion pancake, an order of pan fried noodle with vegetable. The restaurant was full when we came in around 1:45pm. We waited a few minutes for a table. I enjoyed it. I would come again and would recommend!
I have tried at least 4 Shanghai restaurants and they were all ok so when I tried this place I was pleasantly surprised. The food is a bit expensive, but the quality of the food definitely makes up for the price. This would be the only Shanghai restaurant that I would highly recommend in the Bay Area.
Very authentic Shanghainese cuisine, very good.
Shelter in place meal at Shanghai Flavor, outside their resteraunt. I could only exclaim to my wife:"why didn't we try this resteraunt sooner?". Food is excellent! Can't wait till it opens back up for in dining

It's a little shop in a strip mall, so that's the atmosphere. But the food was excellent, and the service fast and friendly.
Their 椒鹽魚片 (salt and pepper fish fillet?) is my favorite dish, not just at this restaurant but possibly anywhere. Lots of other tasty dishes too. The owners and servers are all super nice.
I loved the squirrel fish and the Shanghai rice dish!! All the food was cooked to perfection. The service is very efficient. I had an amazing time here with my family and will come back again.
My family and I really like coming here on a regular basis, and it's finally time to post a review (sometimes I get take-out here too). The staff is warm and friendly, but more importantly, the food is tasty and authentic too. We like the eggplant dish, the special sweet-and-sour fish, the green bean dish, and their Shanghai fried rice dish. My son likes their Shanghai noodle dish. Shanghai Flavor also has a dessert that has mochi balls with flower petals in them in a soup with delicately fermented rice. You can always come here and know that you're going to get good food (except on Mondays when they are closed).
This is my extended family's favorite spot for Shanghai styled food! I got to learn what a 2nd cousin, once removed is while enjoying authentic Shanghai cuisine.
Great spot for Shanghainese food. First time I came here was after going to the KTV next door, and have returned many times since. My favourite items are definitely the xiao long bao and mapo tofu. The portions are fantastic especially considering the reasonable prices. The staff are polite and service is quick. Overall, I'd definitely recommend checking this place out.
My favorite restaurant in the area !! I grew up in Shanghai and the food is so good and pretty authentic. I’ve been here 4 times and the food is consistently delicious. The atmosphere is really homey to me as well. On top of that the servers are the best :) We always get the 雪菜粉丝 which is amazing, and the 糖醋鱼片. The portions are quite generous and reasonable price. Definitely come give this place a try if you haven’t already
No photos but authentic (enough) shanghainese and southern Chinese food! We enjoyed all the dishes and the owner (shanghainese) was great! 鳝糊(Freshwater eel), 马兰头,腌笃鲜,素鸡 and other hard to find dishes in other restaurants were all pretty good! Loved the 菜饭 (shanghainese veggie rice) and 炒年糕 (stir fried rice cakes) as well.
For our gathering, we reserved a table in the Shanghai Flavor Restaurant —and it turned out to be an excellent decision. The restaurant offered an impressive selection of fresh, high-quality seafood dishes, combining healthy choices with classic Shanghai favorites. The dining space was cozy but clean. The special Fish Head Clay Pot soup was a highlight of the evening. The fresh Braised Pork Upper Leg in Brown Sauce was steamed with perfect timing—tender, flavorful, and truly enjoyable. The Stir-fried Shrimp, Four Happiness Bean Curd, Shanghai Style Wine Chicken, and Veggie & Salted Pork Rice were also outstanding. Our delicious ending dish was Shredded radish cake.

Authentic Shangai and Wuxi food. Freshly made including SH wonton.
This was a place we have been wanting to try because of the Shanghai rice cakes they sell. We went yesterday soon after they opened for dinner (5:30pm). We ordered the Wonton veggie & pork (soup) even though it did not say it was soup nor was it listed under the soups. It is listed under dim sum. It was ok but broth lacked salt. I am one who has never added salt to a meal/dish at a restaurant but this needed it. Once you added salt / soy sauce it was much improved. Wontons were tasty. We also ordered the Shanghai style rice w veggies & salted pork. This was tasty & you got some nice crispy bits of rice. Then the green onion pancakes. Yummy but also lacked salt/seasoning. Fried a little more than others but still tasty after you sprinkled a bit of salt on it. The Shanghai pork & veggie rice cakes was delicious! The waitress asked if we wanted it with soy sauce & we said yes. Don't know how it would've been w/o the soy sauce. Finally, we got the Shanghai style sweet & sour pork ribs. These were gooey with either honey or syrup, but surprisingly not too sweet. They did need a touch more sour... either vinegar/lemon juice to make them super yummy. Do be careful when eating as you can crack a tooth on a bone. They are chopped up so much that some of the bones are almost as small as a tooth. Service was friendly & prompt. Although the waitress did tell us we were ordering too much when we kept adding things! Lol! My mom was a little offended but I thought it was funny. I don't think she was trying to be rude, I think she just wanted to let us know (in her own way) it was going to be a lot of food for 3 people...& it was but we don't mind left overs! We just wanted to try as much as we could since the place is bit outta the way for us. Overall good food. I would go back, don't know if my parents would make the 20 - 30min w/o traffic on 880 though.
food is awesome, authentic Shanghainese restaurant, only concern is they will occasionally close the restaurant for a few days and without notice, you cannot find it is closed on google or yelp, only when you arrive
Dine in service is available. Good services- all menu items are available and quality as good. Reasonable prices. Authentic Shangai flavor.
Delicious Chinese standard fare. Bonus entertainment with the karaoke next door; sometimes the singer is good, sometimes sounds like cats being tortured.
The upper pork leg was delicious. The lions head was okay. The Shanghainese dumplings were meh.
Cute little restaurant. Had tomato sauce whole fish. Crispy and sour. Will follow up at next visit.
Delicious Shanghai style food. Must tries are Shanghai style Chow mein and steam dumplings.

You shouldn’t ask for higher tip and offended customers for that. I can tell that the owner is arrogant.
Place small. Lots of diners. Food was good. White fish in wine sauce was a tad too salty. We did not order rice, maybe with it would not have been too salty. I asked the server if my mom, 95 years old & I can sit further in at a table of the same size, not right by the door, but she would not accommodate. I did not speak Mandarin, so I did not bother to argue. Then my mom wanted to give some feedback on the flavor of one of the dish, but who looks like the owner did kit show any interest in hearing it. So the food tasted good, but service is not. It was out of our way to eat there, so will not make the extra effort to come in the future.
Very weird server who touched my baby boy without my permission.
Just okay
Pretty authentic Shanghainese restaurant. Big Wonton is better than the smaller one. Will try noodles if I have any chance in the future.

I’m not very satisfied with the service here. I don’t think I will come back again.
Food was good. No complaints. 4 stars. But the waitress was so rude and unprofessional. We had to ask her for menu. We even have to ask her for balance money after paying. She explicitly asked for tip when she handed over the balance. 0 star.
Called for ordering, the lady started talking in Chinese!! I started talking in English she continued in Chinese. I dropped from the call.
food is awesome, authentic Shanghainese restaurant, only concern is their service feel been discrimination. I have to ask for tea, water,Sauce or silverware. Feel like they do not like Indian. Stop going there even food is great.
This shop will complain that the tip is too little and chase you out. Bad experience.
Ordered food worth more than $60 ask for hot sauce and waiter said its in the bag, went home no hot sauce. What a lie
Don’t buy this. It’s not freshly made, tasted like it’s been sitting for quite long. Meat even tasted a bit sour.
