Opinions de Secret Kitchen Fresh Meadows
Secret Kitchen is a solid Cantonese restaurant located in Fresh Meadows and it's such a convenient location on Horace Harding with so many other stores nearby. There is a small parking lot around the corner, but street parking is also available. I've been coming here for a few years now and their food has always been consistent. Their Gold & Silver Egg Fried Rice is probably one of my favorite dishes from them. It's full of flavor and they load it with something super crispy that gives the fried rice that extra texture. I wish I knew what the English name is for this dish, but the one with stir fried veggies with seafood and fried silky tofu with shrimp on top is another one of my favorites. I haven't tried their lunch specials, but apparently it is worth it and delicious. There's so many other dishes that they do really well, but honestly anything you order from them will be good.
TLDR: A solid find in Fresh Meadows. Classic Cantonese dishes but done really really well. Salted egg prawns, black pepper steak cubes and mushrooms, the fried sticky rice! Popped in randomly on a weeknight with the family and so presently surprised. We got a bunch of things to share and everything was exceptionally good. The salt and pepper anchovies were chunky, flaky but crispy on the outside. The stir-fried specialties is a mix of jicama, garlic chives, dried squid and fried anchovies. Savory, so much texture, beautiful colors and amazing with some rice. The black pepper beef cubes with mushroom I was really shocked. Tender chunks of beef, a wonderfully rich mouthfeel with bouncy mushrooms. For such a classic dish - this was definitely the best version I've ever had. Salted egg yolk prawns. Fried, massively jumbo shrimps tossed in the salted egg yolk. It's hard to find a place that makes this and even harder to find one that gets it right. The fried sticky rice though was the star for me. The dice on the ingredients is so fine, everything just mixes together perfectly. The fried taro, salami-like bites of chinese sausage, there was significant wok hei in this. We just got it plain but I can imagine with some seafoood - wow. Haven't been back since but I may need to pay another visit soon.
Authentic Cantonese food, we enjoy coming here so much. Our family loves their food. We would order the family style set, the food comes out fresh and almost like banquet style. must order their lamb chops and seafood noodles
What a fantastic meal! I was really craving authentic Chinese food and this Cantonese restaurant absolutely hit the spot. We ordered the chicken feet, shredded jellyfish, snow peas, honey walnut shrimp, lobster fried rice, and roasted beef tenderloin in red wine. Though I'd never had Thai-style chicken feet and this particular jellyfish appetizer before, I was very pleased by the flavors and uniqueness of these dishes. The snow peas, on the other hand, tasted just like my mom's cooking and reminded me of home. As for the main dishes, the shrimp and beef were some of the best I've ever had as the shrimp had this perfect texture to it and the beef was so tender it could melt in your mouth. If you're a fan of seafood, I strongly recommend the lobster fried rice since not only was it fresh but the portion size was well worth the price. To finish it all off, we enjoyed a complimentary mango pomelo dessert that was refreshingly the right amount of sweet. Lastly, I've got to thank the service as our waiters were super attentive throughout our meal––we'll definitely be back soon!
Delicious good qualities of Cantonese food with fare prices. We have family dinner with 1 appetizer, 5 main courses plus 4 bowls of rice, we paid about $136. Restaurant is clean, bright with few big round tables and small tables and good services. Highly recommended this place!!!
Authentic Cantonese-style cuisine, the dishes are well made. Good place for family and meeting friends. Parking lot backyard, also can park in nearby mall.
An awesome spot for beautiful, innovative and authentic Cantonese food. They have a dish with salted egg yolk stir-fried squash which is cooked perfectly, and some of the best fried rice I’ve ever had. The gold and silver fried rice with dried scallops was so flavorful. Great soups and stir-fries, as well as some special cold dishes like pickled pork knuckles. I wanna go back and try everything on the menu!
Amazingly fresh seafood and super authentic Cantonese cuisine. I highly recommend the honey walnut shrimp and the beef rib was some of the most tender meat I’ve ever had! And the lobster fried rice was very generous with the lobster. There were definitely multiple lobsters worth of meat in the dish. Will definitely be back

Ordered pickup for two lunch kits: salt & pepper pork chops and satay beef w/ vermicelli and they both came with a small rice and hot & sour soup. The staff was friendly and greeted me when I arrived for pickup and the place looked bright and clean but I have never dined in. The vermicelli was packed full and had adequate amounts of beef, sauce and veggies. The pork chops were my faves - well seasoned and tender. Every piece was still crispy when I got home. The hot and sour soup was well balanced to my taste (medium spiciness to me) and had a lot of spicy pickled cabbage. Nothing felt skimped on, the portions were reasonable and tasted freshly made. I thought this was a great value and I’m looking forward to trying more of the menu. Cons: I struggle to find anything I was uphappy with this time. I even liked that the takeout chopsticks were not the type you have to snap apart.
The food was spot on, classic traditional Cantonese food. This place is really a hidden gem. Flavor was on point. The texture was good. Fried rice perfect. It was a very satisfying dinner to start off 2026. Definitely recommend everything we ate tonight: - Deep Fried salted anchovies - fried Pig Intestines - Water boiled sliced Beef - Peking Pork Chop - Mutton Brisket stew - Golden/Silver Egg Fried Rice I would recommend everything we ate. hard to find a spot on Cantonese Restaurant, this is it! I'm coming back soon

We order a whole roast duck to go. This was very delicious. It came with sauce rice and chopsticks.
Firstly I like they have big tables in a room, secondly the service is great, they won't hurry you. The foods overall is fine except the eggplant pot was quite small, and the shrimp dish was $28 for eight shrimps, and we have 9 ppl. We asked whether we can make it to 1 n half portion but was told it needed to be double. This is the first time I had such a small portion of this dish at this price.
The flavor is very good. But it's not too spicy. The beef curry & Singapore noodles r not too spicy. Beef broccoli is better than other places. 2nd review: We've been there many times & have taken friends there. Certainly, the service or manners are not consistent. The last time we were there when we told the waiter that the tablecloth had food on it. He told us the other table is the same, rather than apologizing & switching us. This is very typical of Chinese restaurants. Whenever you give them more business, they get cocky & rude. We are lowering the rating as it suits them now.
Stopped by to check this place out over the weekend, food was pretty good! Service was quick and everything came out really fast, friendly staff too! I recommend calling ahead to reserve seats since they get quite busy especially during dinner time. Cantonese style dishes for sharing, I'll be coming back again next time to try out other stuff!
authentic Cantonese cuisine。 Portion was generous, we ordered 3 dishes for party of 4, still had left overs to pack up. Good service. House Specail Stewed Soup In Mini Bowl was very good. If you want to share, it’s 2 small rice bowls. They also offer dishes other than Cantonese style, I’d stick with their specialty.
Strange vibe inside with small tvs mounted up high for the staff to watch, and across the room up high again a couple awkwardly small framed photos of fruit splashing in water… as if it were a juice bar. That aside, the lobster fried rice was excellent and a generous portion for the price. Just be warned it takes about 25 minutes to come out.
Had lunch from their lunch selection. I ordered something that wasn't on their menu. It was made to my liking. Reasonable priced Cantonese dishes without going to Flushing or Bayside. Give a try.

3.5/5 stars rounded up. The food was on the saltier side for me, but all the flavors were good (simple, but good). We tried the chicken and eggplant, mapo tofu, shrimp and eggs, and water spinach. - Eggplant, chicken, and salted fish: This turned out to just be eggplant and chicken. I think there was some miscommunication because we ordered the lunch special version of this dish, not the full casserole. Instead of tofu, chicken, and salted fish, we opted for eggplant, chicken, and salted fish. This turned out to just be a basic Chinese takeout-like stir-fry. The chicken pieces were not dry, but they were pretty salty. The eggplant pieces were cooked well though, and they weren't overly salty at all. - Shrimp and eggs: The eggs in this dish were pretty salty, but I liked the ratio of shrimp to egg. The shrimp itself was very juicy. - Water spinach: This was my favorite. The flavor was simple but great, and it wasn't too salty. Overall, this place has decent Cantonese food. The wait staff is friendly. Portions are good, particularly for their lunch special, which is a pretty good deal.
The food is good and price is reasonable. They have the typical Chinese food dishes and some that are not as common at other restaurants. The only thing is they're not always consistent but when it's good, it's good. My favorite dishes: Olive with string beans, salty egg pumpkin (must get this), fried intestine (sometimes they over fry this), fish two ways (made in soup with tofu and veggies and then a separate dish where the meat is filet and there is no bone... delicious. This dish is $80), walnut shrimp (typical dish), Peking pork (typical dish).

Cannot recommend. The menu indicates lunch special from 11 - 3 PM. No date restrictions are noted. This may presently be seen in the sixth menu photo in Google maps. But when I got there on a Sunday the waiter advised that they are justing joking (my words) and they won't honor the lunch special on weekends. This, along with some other reviews, casts doubt on customer service policies of this restaurant. If they fix this apparent false advertising I will re-review.
