California Fish Grill

I didn't know what to expect, but I walked out with mixed emotions. The food was better than expected, but the service not so much. To order, you walk up to a touch screen and select your food. It was not too complicated. In the end, you add your name to the order with your phone number. They will call out your name and text you to pick up your food. Once you're called, your food is on a plate in a large metal tray that can barely fit on your table. If I had not taken it back, my friend would not have room for his plate. So I had to go back to drop off the metal tray as well as my friend, back to the front. It had a family feel, but the service was very cold. After finishing my meal, there was nowhere to drop off your finished plate or trash cans. The staff that they are saving by not having cashier they are using to clean tables and pick up plates. Didn't make much sense. I would think that the focus would shift to making sure that the orders and patrons are happy and taken care of. That was not what was going on here. The food was very good, as well as the presentation, just confused with the business model.

High quality food at a decent price! Found this place randomly on Google maps and I'm happy I did. Visited twice in a week with many more to come. Flavor and portion size are better than fancy restaurants and priced much cheaper. Definitely recommend trying this place out.

Pleasantly surprised. Not a traditional sit down place. Good customer service. They have kiosks for ordering with someone available to help you. They text you when your food is ready. The presentation was nice. The food was delicious. Will be returning for sure.

The food is very good. It's GREAT to have a decent priced Seafood restaurant. The available options are sufficient. I would definitely recommend 👌🏽 them as a good option for Seafood.!!

The food here is DELICIOUS. All the fish dishes are cooked and seasoned well, especially the battered fish, salmon and fish & chips dishes. Even their sides, like the roasted Brussel sprouts, taste amazing! The prices are fair too. I had first tried their food when a vendor catered to my workplace, and I just had to have it again with my family. Definitely my new favorite place for seafood. (Photos from 9/8/2024) Update from 10/13/2024: They changed the Brussel sprouts recipe. This last time I ordered them, they didn't have any of the sweet sauce on it, which was disappointing.

I’m writing my review as a Togo order. I gave them 5 stars because they really deserve it. When you are talking about a fast food chain your thoughts go to somewhere else. I really enjoyed the food. Flavor wise, is way better than many high rated fish restaurant. There’s only 2 things I would love to highlight, the kaleslow salad , it’s not worth it, it needs more flavor. The second thing, I order wild caught grilled salmon, medium well because my kids wanted to try, unfortunately they did it more than well done. I was impressed with the flavors. Grilled white fish Grilled shrimps and fish and chips, are really recommended!!! NB: the lady in the front was very friendly, welcoming and helpful

The sauce is spicy hot. Salmon could be better, we prefer more spices. The Brussels Sprouts were delicious.

Casual place with super helpful staff to help you place your order in a computer. It’s a prime location by Blackstone and the ambiance was nice! We had the Rockfish Plate which was decent but the Dynamite Shrimp Bowl was great, highly recommend the dish! Food was definitely fresh!

This being a fairly new establishment in Fresno, my wife and I decided to try it. This store was very busy with patrons, which is a good sign. As you enter, you place your order at a kiosk. You have lots of choices. We decided to get the three piece fish and chips. Of course you can choose between seasoned or plain fries. We also were able to pick another side. We picked the zucchini. Finally, there are add-ons (for an additional charge). I ordered the shrimp skewer, garlic and butter. Now for my critique. The fish was fresh, hot, and delicious. We added salt and malted vinegar. The seasoned fries had a good taste but wasn’t as fresh and hot. The zucchini was a little depressing as I expected it to be hot, and it wasn’t. That is the reason for the four star instead of five on the food. The staff were fantastic and very helpful. I mentioned the zucchini and they asked if again, please let them know. I’d recommend trying this restaurant.

Was craving fish tacos & decided to see what this place is about. Seen it here on Yelp & while under construction in River Park, so here we are! To speed things up, the inside is nice, clean & easy to navigate (for those who need to know). It's not a traditional sit down & order restaurant, instead there is 2 kiosks & a person taking orders. Kiosk is also easy to navigate (can be temperamental). Add food to cart, order/pay & enter your number! The last 4 of your number will be called out when ready. However, our order took a little while to be called considering the amount of people there. But in all, wasn't bad. I ordered the Battered Fish Tacos & will say it was good! Fresh taste, not overloaded with with unnecessary ingredients & just overall a good flavor. Something I can easily go eat again. My son got Battered Calamari, my Brother got Battered Fish (3 piece) along with Parmesan String Beans & Breaded Shrimp for apps. We all enjoyed our food with zero complaints. Oh. Stubborn soda is also pretty good too!

I always come here for a quick healthy dinner. I get the salmon burger and all the ingredients are always fresh and buns are warm and toasty. The workers are helpful if it’s your first time or if you’re a regular. Whenever Paulina is working, I have a fresh meal and a good time. She’s my go to for any topping or side dish questions.

BAD AVOCADO Food is not bad actually depending on what you ordered. Great seasoning on their food. As for service it Was not great, there is a lady in there that if you ask for extra sauce she ain't going to be too happy about it. This was my first time ordering avocado. I say just don't order it at all.

Mine came with fries, zuchini and a pineapple skewer, and my spouse chose zuchini and a kale salad. Everything was nicely seasoned and the tuna was cooked perfectly. Compared to a good burger joint, like the Habit, California Fish Grill has tapped a niche in serving excellent food, off the main stream, for a very reasonable price; including th ealcohol we paid less than a regular Habit meal. This is going to be a favorite to us, if they keep this up!

Our first visit to California Fish Grill was thoroughly disappointing, especially given the current climate where fewer people are dining out and each meal out is a considered expense. After an issue with my wife's excessively spicy poke bowl, which was not indicated on any menu, it was remade. However, when Minnie, the manager, delivered the corrected dish, she slammed it down with a scowl, showing a complete lack of professionalism or basic courtesy. In this day and age, when dining out is less frequent and two entrees alone can cost $50, one expects staff to go above and beyond to ensure a pleasant experience. Yet, when we discreetly asked another employee for her name to address our concerns, Minnie responded by aggressively asserting her position with a condescending and defiant tone. This unprofessional and hostile behavior left us feeling unwelcome and disrespected, diminishing our dining experience at a time when every customer should be valued more than ever.

Don't get me wrong, I understand that the product you receive in fast-food is never as appetizing as the picture in the menu but this prep was gross. The restaurant also didn't include utensils or napkins, it was kind of hard to eat a salad without a fork.

I won't be going back to the Fresno location but I will continue to go back to the Visalia location because I've never had a bad experience there. In reading the reviews I noticed a pattern. It seems the Take Out orders are the ones with the bad reviews. So apparently, the workers take less care in preparing the food for Take Out orders.

Got there at 3:50 waited for 30min for two bowls and when asked the girl the food took a long time, very bad attitude, She never said sorry and when we got our food, everything was cold not even fresh. There was only two people in the restaurant not busy at all. Paid $30 for two people. Food made a 30 minutes for some cold food. I will never go back again.

Worst service ever here on 11/4/25, I’m assuming there all new workers but I’ve been going to this location for over 2 years! And today I’ve never been this disappointed with there service, ordered a salmon and swai combo and received there delta catfish with zucchini plus on top of that i ordered a side of rice and never received it and had to come back for it. If this ever happens again at this location i’m for sure not coming back!

ZERO HOSPITALITY. I ordered DoorDash long-distance for my family in Fresno — I was trying to do something special for them. One of the items arrived missing an ingredient. Simple enough to fix, right? Wrong. I called the restaurant and spoke with someone who wouldn't even give me her name — supposedly a manager. She told me I had ordered the dish without the ingredient. I didn't. She lied to my face and then hung up on me. When I called back, she doubled down on the lie, then passed me off to another manager named Amy. Amy actually looked up my order and confirmed that I did NOT request the ingredient be removed. So the first person lied. And Amy's response to that? "There's nothing I can do, you have to deal with DoorDash." So let me get this straight: your staff made the dish wrong, lied about it, hung up on me, and then the manager who verified the mistake still refused to make it right? Note to management: Amy needs serious hospitality training. And whoever I spoke with on the evening of February 27th before her — the one who lied and hung up on a customer — has no business working in food service. Find her another role. One that doesn't involve people.
