First of all the staff are working on Christmas when the patrons arrive. Major League points for me but they were very polite and friendly. The drinks were excellent and the mimosas were bottomless so you know we were having a blast. The view was spectacular. The food was on point and plenty of it. The American breakfast had these mashed potatoes that were amazing. Moist and just enough salt for taste. The bacon 🥓 was huge. The eggs scrambled are so good. And the burgers are to die for. Major moist and two Pattie’s. The fries are better than McDonald’s fries. No joke. So please enjoy the view and the service. And the drinks. It’s a little pricey but we’ll worth it.

Great service! Big portions. Loved the salmon & the tuna appetizer.

Beautiful setting, great food, friendly service! We enjoyed everything about our meal and will definitely be back again. Our steaks were cooked perfectly, & the cocktails were tasty! The desserts were amazing too. For anyone with dietary restrictions, this might not be the best choice. I didn't see any notes on the menu about GF options. There are a few salads vegans will enjoy though!

Pro- The food was fantastic! Fresh, appetizing, and impeccably presented. We went to the Thanksgiving buffet. We may never prepare Thanksgiving dinner again. The staff was very pleasant. The manager checked on us twice and clearly was very involved in the whole operation. There are ceiling to floor windows over looking a tree lined pond. One almost forgets you are looking at the back of UF Health facilities. Con- The dining area could use some sound proofing. It was hard for us to hear our tablemates and our waitress. Valet parking is required.

After having a really stressful check in at hotel eleo, Karli gave me amazing service at this restaurant. Thank you for saving my night.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Covey Kitchen + Cocktails! The food was great and definitely in the top echelon of Gainesville dining. The atmosphere/view was awesome, and the service was on point!! We highly recommend making a visit if you live in Gainesville or if you are just visiting.

Love this place, working my way down the menu. Had the Caprese Salad and the Short Ribs tonight. My companion had the Scotch Eggs and fries. Delicious. Service is awesome.

Food was really good and the drinks were delicious. The veggies and salmon was cooked perfectly. I did think it a little too much vinaigrette on the veggies but that’s just me. My friends got fries and there was a lot of fries!! A rated five stars because of the atmosphere and the friendly staff. Very classy place. I recommend it as a higher end restaurant.

Had dinner and breakfast at the restaurant. The burger is delicious and the breakfast is top notch. First time I’ve had scrambled eggs with cheese done right. Ever!!!!! I was able to taste the cheese in the eggs and it was actually mixed in (for those who know what that means). If you are in Gainesville def stop by when on UF Campus.

Great food and prices, went for Sunday Brunch, reservations suggested. Table for 8 outside, no problem. Table ready. A little short staffed but our waitress was awesome and worked hard to get us flush with cocktails. Food was ample and reasonably priced. Nice patio overlooking Fountains, inside the Ello Hotel. Interesting menu choices.

The food was delicious my family loved the food and my burger was sooooo juicy. We had the french toast bread pudding and let me tell you it was delicious. It was almost perfect pairing it with some french vanilla ice cream would have made it perfect (chefs take notes) but all in all great food great service beautiful place and 5 stars would recommend

I was quite surprised how quickly the food was delivered to the table. The waiting service staff was very helpful and i even had the pleasure to meet the chef and kitchen staff. Dominic and Gilbert were welcoming and made me feel right at home. Also, I really enjoyed the music that i heard from the kitchen which made the mood and made me feel at home

I ended up at Covey Kitchen, long story short, when I was desperately looking for a new place to host my graduation dinner. The place I had reserved did not work out at all, and when I called Covey, the hostess quickly communicated with staff and got us in. Our waiter was a dream; very friendly with great dinner and drink recommendations, and perfectly attentive. Our charcuterie board was a beautiful spread perfect to share, and everyone’s meal was so delicious! The winter espresso martini was especially incredible, along with the roasted veggie salad and miso salmon. The interior of the restaurant is so chic, resembling a rooftop bar in its style. You can see a lake outside through gorgeous floor to ceiling windows, and the atmosphere is classy yet welcoming. The prices are higher, but very fair considering the portions, presentation, and quality. The only downside is that I think it is valet only; I could be wrong about that, though. I absolutely recommend Covey Kitchen!! They saved my graduation celebration!

Staff was friendly and attentive. Food was good and convient if your staying in the hotel. Nice atmosphere! We made a mistake in ordering something with nuts (we were gonna eat the cost since it was our fault for not reading the description) but they insisted to remake it for us! Florence was our server and a gentleman who I assume was the manager helped us as well. The service can for sure make or break a location, and even if the food wasn’t the best we would still return for the customer service. (husband said to emphasize the food was very good)

I've always had a nice meal. It's got a medium price point and by all metrics they meet that very well. Service was fantastic and the food was quite tasty. Their holiday buffets are also usually really solid with good selection and everything is tasty.

We just ate at Covey. Everything was great. We had a bottle of wine that was affordable and delicious. Great appetizer with the trio. The flat iron steak was amazing. The best part was the wonderful service from Florence!

My partner and I recently dined at Covey Kitchen + Cocktails for the first time, following some good reviews we'd heard. The location was easy to find, and the valet service was notably helpful, especially since they handled our car for free after we forgot our parking ticket. Upon entering, we were greeted warmly by the staff, setting a pleasant tone for the evening. We started with raclette, a treat for us as cheese lovers trying it for the first time. It was delicious, especially when paired with the fingerling potatoes and cornichon sweety drop peppers, which offered a unique and tasty addition. I had the tomato bisque soup, which was wonderfully flavorful, and the Roasted Stuffed Manchester Farms Quail as my main course. Both dishes were superb. Our drink choices, the bourbon peach smash and the "gin and berry" cocktails, were so good that we ended up ordering seconds. The entire meal was exceptional from start to finish. Covey Kitchen + Cocktails provided excellent food and drink, coupled with great customer service. We’re already planning our next visit!

Our server was attentive but not overbearing. Drinks from the bar were mixed to perfection. The garlic shrimp and charcuterie app was delicious, perfect portions. Dinner portions are plentiful (don't be shy to ask for a to-go box). All brought to our table in a very timely manner (even during graduation weekend!!). Expect to spend a bit more money but it is well worth it. I will be returning.

Food service and drinks were all excellent. The ambience is fair. Nothing special but It's very nice and clean and you can sit outdoors if you like. We elected to sit indoors. I agree with several other reviews that indicate the music is a little too loud. The jazz music is fantastic but it seems to echo through the small restaurant in a way that is too loud. Would have definitely enjoyed more steak options on the menu but everything we did order was delicious. As I recall our waiter was named Randy and he was very attentive polite and helped with several suggestions on the menu. We will most likely go back in a couple months.

This place! Valet parking, beautiful dining area with a lovely view, delightful servers, and delicious food. Bonus: We could hear each other talk in this cozy, intimate environment. Great place to celebrate New Years eve. We'll be back before long!

Cocktails were creative and strong, especially the ones with local ingredients. Food was solid, liked the Floridian twists on classics. Atmosphere is upscale casual, great for groups.

Ordered the double burger. It was delicious nothing extraordinary. The truffle fries were also good. They serve Pepsi products. Service was great and the view was beautiful despite the awkward location. Valet was complimentary, not sure if this was only for dining. The dining area is very clean, business casual. The service provides the elegance without the white table cloths.

I had covey’s burger with fries. The burger was juicy and fries were good. (they give generous amount which is a plus!) Overall I really like this place.

Located inside the Eleo hotel it’s convenient. My drink was great and my food was good. It has more of “older people” vibe to be honest even though it’s near UF. So I think if you are a bit older I think you will enjoy this place. It has outdoor seating as well. It’s definitely not trendy , but a solid 4 star place.

Nice addition to Gainesville. Has a feel of bigger city. Beautiful setting for dining al fresco. Service was impeccable. I liked that the whole staff acknowledges your presence; our server was most hospitable. For appetizers, Deviled Eggs looked amazing but lacked flavor, Avocado Toast and Crispy Cauliflower were very good. Short Rib entrée was amazing. Bahn Mi sandwich was to die for! Cocktails: Jalapeño Muddle and Elderflower Margarita were big hits.

Set in Gainesville’s hospital hub and inside the brand new Eleo Hotel, Covey Kitchen + Cocktails opened its doors a couple of weeks ago as a great addition to the city’s food scene. For years Gainesville had been missing a new upscale yet casual dining option with the only place on this category in town being Dragonfly. It seems like Covey aims to create competition in this dining category and so far, does so successfully. The restaurant has floor to ceiling glass windows and minimalistic decor that maximize the surrounding views of the lit up buildings and grand fountain. The outdoor sitting area is great as well, with comfortable sitting perfect for a not so cold Florida winter night. In terms of food, Covey exceeded my expectations in most ways. Their Caesar salad was unique with infusion of herbs and the inclusion of mint in what is usually a basic salad. The reimagining of this salad pays off however, creating a great cushion of taste. My entree with the Steak Frites was great as well with the steak being cooked to my desired level and the sides tasting well too. The only part where I see improvement needed was dessert. They only had two options which really limits your choices and the one I went with, the Bread pudding one, was less than stellar. It was dry and almost stale like with not much sweet in it so that is something they could work on. Service was exceptional as well with a very knowledgeable waitress and very attentive, I would definitely recommend this place and would hope that it slowly becomes a bigger part of Gainesville’s dining elite.

Food was quite good (the fish was a little bland, these roast veggies were AMAZING, and I would eat them every day forever if I could), the Sunday evening jazz was really atmo but so loud that I couldn’t hear another patron talking on his phone, service was EXCELLENT (ask for Emily if you go).

Good, not great. We popped for a quick dinner. The hotel looks like a newer, trandier one. The menu was not updated on the website, so we were slightly surprised. Tried the Ribeye and Flat Iron steak, preferred the second. They were also testing their key lime pie, and I have to say, it was pretty good! While we'd cook better dinner ourselves, it was ok. It's still a solid option, just nothing special. The server was very helpful and knowledgeable about the gluten free options.

As thanksgiving day restaurants go Covey kitchen is not exactly how mama used to make. This was more miss than hit. An overly seasoned turkey was the food low point. Mashed potatoes and salads fared a bit better. Service was below average. And the $148 charge ,,(18 percent was automatically added on for dinner for two) was definitely overpriced

I decided to try this place out on a Friday afternoon and was surprised by how empty the place was. There were only 3 other people there at 2pm. My waitress was very helpful and friendly. I ordered an Arnold Palmer ($3) to drink and a Steak Frites. The steak was great, juicy and tender! The fries were average but the salad was a huge let down. The salad was wilted and some of the pieces were totally brown. Considering that this plate cost $32, I was expecting everything to be of great quality, not just the protein. I decided to try a dessert and the raspberry white chocolate cheesecake was rich and sweet. The raspberry added a perfect amount of tart to balance the richness of the cheesecake. There were some berries on the dessert plate that didn't have any flavor to them and had a very dry texture suggesting that they were kind of old. The menu said that the dessert cost $9 but on the receipt it was billed as $10. All in all, the food was good but not what I expected for the price.

Two star ambiance with 3-4 star food. Seriously, I walked in and thought I arrived for my free breakfast at the Comfort Inn. Cheap carpet and tables, cold lighting, non-descript decor. BUT, most of our food was great. We had the crispy cauliflower app which came with 3 sauces, 2 of which were above average. My partner had a great salad and I really enjoyed the swordfish. We made the mistake of ordering coffee and bread pudding for dessert, both of which were poor. We debated on whether it's okay to send food back because they have a bad plan of how to prepare it instead of just poor execution. Not worth the money.

Food is delicious, but the service is inconsistent. Sometimes you’re waited on, and other times you watch others being waited on. Despite this, I’ll still be returning, hoping they’ll improve their service.

New Update 2024 We have been coming for thanksgiving dinner the past few years. This year was sadly the most disappointing. The dessert table was underwhelming to say the least, it seemed like they went to Sam's and got cheese cake and cookies... The other food was good some of which was a tad over salted but still good. What really confused me is they said they had a however it was just meat no crackers, cheese or anything else meat and pickles.... Like I have said we only come for Thanksgiving but this year was not our favorite. 2023 We went here for Thanksgiving Dinner. Reservation most certainly recommend. The food was absolutely out of this world, the staff make you feel warm and welcomed. The bar served amazing drinks. Overall a fantastic experience and I assure you we will be coming back. Lastly Emily our server was an absolute godsend! Couldn't have had a better Thanksgiving!

We LOVE this restaurant! The food is high quality and the drinks (Bourbon Fall is so good) are amazing! You get really large portions (my favorite is the steak frites with fries); I've never left hungry. Also, you must have the Crispy Cauliflower appetizer, it is ridiculously tasty and I don't even like cauliflower!s lightly fried and the dipping sauces put it over the top. The chef, Charlie is great and makes you feel like you're family. Can't say enough good things about this place. Go! You'll love it! ---------------------------- UPDATE 11/16/2023 Well this place has really gone downhill :(. Ever since Charlie (the owner) left, the menu has changed and the drinks are not as good and you can't order drinks that were once on the menu. Really? You have all the ingredients, but now you're "not allowed" to make it? I brought a friend, bragging about the drinks and food; I was embarrassed! So sad - once was a 5 star restaurant, now, b/c of the prices, lower quality of food and limitations on drinks they will make, I give this place at best 3.5 stars. Probably won't come back, until Charlie does and rights the ship. Definitely would NOT recommend to anyone.

We visited around 12:15pm on Tuesday since all the other Gainesville steakhouses open in the evening. Parking is valet only since the restaurant is inside the Eleo hotel, or you can walk from the free parking garage down the block to the restaurant. Restrooms were clean and 100% automated. The decor around the hotel is a minimalist nouveau style so very plain colors and barely any decorations. Carpet in the dining area was a questionable choice since anyone could see remnants of past stains on it. The restaurant was semi-busy for lunch and we landed a table near the kitchen. Electronic menu was interesting - low key minimal lunch menu. My husband and I ordered 2 hot teas, the 6 Oz. flank steak (well-done), crispy cauliflower appetizer, french onion dip sandwich with a side of boursin garlic whipped potatoes, and grilled salmon also with the whipped potatoes. The food arrived about 15 minutes after our order. Crispy cauliflower was spicy and excellent with the dipping sauce. Perfect for sharing. This was the best part of the meal. The steak, salmon, and sandwich arrived soon after. Oily fingerprints on the black plates were mildly unappealing so I wiped them off with the table napkin. We also found it odd the steak was placed on top of a bed of lettuce since that made it difficult to cut, but at least it was tender and tasted ok. The salmon was cooked well and did not have any fishy flavor at all (which is good). We finished the steak and salmon. However, the side of boursin garlic whipped potatoes was extremely salty, a heart-palpitating amount of salt, so after realizing the entire side tasted like this, it was inedible. My husband then tried the French onion dip sandwich and encountered a tough fatty ligament on the 2nd or 3rd bite so he decided to stop eating and we asked for the check and to go containers. We wouldn't be eating our leftovers, but the garden compost would certainly enjoy it. Total was $110 with appropriate tip. Customer service was excellent and the waitstaff are friendly, professional, and very accommodating. But after being disappointed in our lunch, first and last time we're eating here.

L
Location Details

The wait staff are very friendly. The food is very salty and not plated well. The black plates show the oily finger prints that come from the cook to the waiter (They should always hold plates from the bottom to avoid fingerprints and smears on the top near the food.). The califlower appetizer is very good, the mashed potatoes are soooo salty I couldnt eat them, the small steak was disappointing. It sat on a small bed of lettuce that makes it hard to cut the steak into pieces. Its not very ideal at all. The au jus cheesesteak had legaments and fat and tasted very gamey, so the prep work was most likely minimal. I used the mashed potatoes and au jus cheese steak as compost (at home) since I didnt want to eat it. I was disappointed in the food due to the excessive amount of saltiness, plating, and flavor. In the photos you can see the oily fingerprints on the top of the plates. Thats a big no-no, and is also typically why most places serve with white plates to hide any finger smears.

We visited the campus for the first time and stayed at this hotel. Had dinner as we arrived in town later. The food was quite odd. Service was a bit rough. Part of our order was forgotten. There were multiple hairs in a burger. Atmosphere was lacking. Go elsewhere.

M

Bland food and poor service. Cocktails were very good. Ambiance was nice. Hostess had us awkwardly stand near the bar area before seating us, which was a little odd. We were at the restaurant for two hours and only checked on twice. I had to find my server to get the bill because we had not seen her in a while and wanted to go. Will not return and don't recommend. They also don't verify that your room is actually your room in the hotel, so someone happily charged their drinks on my room. When I went to dispute it at the front desk upon check out, I was told that they had to do an investigation to remove it and would let me know the outcome... like I was trying to steal $35, really?

I used to love coming here as a special treat, especially for UF Health business meals. Recently I came to Covey with my husband after work, and I'm not sure if I'll be back for a while. I feel so badly for the staff, they are so kind and clearly doing their best. They're understaffed and overwhelmed. The food is okay and the view is beautiful! The main reason I won't be returning was actually due to what happened after we paid and left. My card was fraudulently charged multiple times late that night by the restaurant. Errors in charging tips? I called right away and couldn't reach anyone by phone. I spent much of the next day trying to reach someone who could fix the charge. From what I heard from staff who did try to help connect me to management - they were again understaffed and overwhelmed. Ultimately I was helped by management and the incorrect charges were fixed. They were very helpful and professional. But what still feels "icky" was in the end the only remaining issue was for my final balance I was being charged $6 for a tip instead of the $18 I had written down. I felt brushed off by management when I pushed for that to be fixed. Morally it seemed so wrong, staff deserve their tips! Maybe it seems weird to be upset that I walked away under-charged, but I won't be back if this is the way they treat their staff. I will find a new place to have business meals.

Went here for Easter Brunch and was unimpressed with the spread. ~ 34 dollars for powdered eggs, congealed grits, dry ham and dry mahi. Deserts was not made in house and was probably from Sysco. Probably would have enjoyed a Golden Corral instead of this. Regular kitchen maybe decent but would not recommend their buffet brunch execution.

M
Molly Cozzens

The bar is great, the drinks are great, the live music is great. However, do NOT go here for the food. The menu sounds so good but everything is underwhelming. The flank steak was so chewy and over cooked. The mashed potatoes had zero seasoning, were cold and full of raw potatoes. The bologanse tasted like dish water. The smoked fish pate was good, I suspect because it didn't require cooking.

When I went to Orlando, I picked this place to have lunch with my friend. We liked the pictures on Google, and the reviews were not bad. However, we didn't really enjoy the service. The server’s attitude was far from pleasant. I usually don't write reviews about service, but this time it was exceptionally poor. We were the only ones in the restaurant, and we waited a really long time for our food, which ended up being cold. Moreover, the service team didn't bother to check if everything was satisfactory or provide the necessary items, like utilities. We had to make quite an effort to get their attention. The lunch wasn't enjoyable primarily due to the unsatisfactory service. Although I hesitate to leave a negative review, their behavior left me feeling unwelcome and uncomfortable.

E
Eugene

Hosts are rude, also I don't understand why there is waiting list for 40 minutes if restaurant is empty. In my opinion if you have a restaurant inside of the hotel, you have to have the capability to serve hotel guests...

C
Christi Winsor

This restaurant relies on being a tourist trap instead of offering quality service or great food and beverage. They dismiss their clientele without a thought knowing that each game day weekend will bring droves of fans that will inevitably stay in the hotel and require room service or a bite to eat out of convenience. It's also evident that Covey makes no effort to honor reservations. Upon arrival the hotel valet tried to discourage us from even entering, saying the restaurant was no longer serving food (this should have been a red flag from the start); when we said we had dinner reservations he quickly doubled-back and said we were OK to enter. At hostess check we waited another 15-20 minutes beyond reservation time for our table, and about 5 minutes after seating our server handed us menus and said the kitchen was backed up and could not accept any food orders for the time being, but he would 'keep us posted' if anything changed. Um, what? How is this acceptable, and why weren't we informed this by the hostess so we could potentially make other arrangements? After 15 minutes or so without another visit/update from the server, we decided to leave and attempt to find somewhere else to dine (no easy task without reservations on a game weekend, but it was clear we may not be eating at all if we stayed here). I called later to speak with management about my experience but received no reply or callback. A few ways Covey could have handled the situation could be to 1) only accept reservation as to not get overwhelmed, 2) don't accept any reservations to avoid upset when reservations can't be honored or served food, 3) offer a complimentary appetizer and/or cocktail that can be supplied by the kitchen quickly to hold guests over until the rush subsides. Covey did no such thing and could not be bothered to even return a phone call, so it's clear that they don't care about serving their customers or having repeat business. Bottom line = AVOID THIS RESTAURANT!!

M
Merey A

I recently dined at Covey and unfortunately, I had an extremely disappointing service experience. From start to finish, the level of service provided was simply unacceptable. Upon entering the restaurant, their greeting lacked warmth and enthusiasm, making us feel like an inconvenience rather than valued customers. Once seated, the waitstaff seemed disinterested and inattentive. It took an excessive amount of time for them to even acknowledge our presence, let alone take our drink orders. Throughout the meal, they rarely checked on us, leaving us feeling neglected and ignored. To make matters worse, when our food finally arrived, it was cold and clearly not prepared to order. It was evident that the dishes had been sitting under a heat lamp for far too long. When we brought this to the attention of our server, they seemed unapologetic and offered no solution or alternative. The lack of accountability was truly disappointing. Furthermore, the overall attitude of the staff was unprofessional and indifferent. It felt as though they were going through the motions without any genuine care for their customers' experience. This lack of enthusiasm and attention to detail was evident throughout our entire visit. Overall, my experience at Covey Restaurant was incredibly disappointing. The lackluster service, cold food, and indifferent attitude of the staff left a sour taste in my mouth. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking a pleasant dining experience.

If there were a way to rate a restaurant in ‘negative’ stars I would go negative 10. Horrible experience. In town for my son’s graduation and we (14 of us) decided to give it a try. Terrible mistake. Portion size was minuscule and tasted very bad. Cost of the meal was ridiculous. And the service was the worst I have ever experienced in my fifty six years of life. I actually had to stop on the way back to the hotel to get food because I was still hungry. Avoid this place at all costs. Just hot garbage.

L
Les Thornton

A high pitched noise lasted the entire duration of brunch due to the “toaster”. The server acknowledged the obnoxious sound and stated that the restaurant could not turn it off because the importance of having toast was greater than our level of discomfort.. We then proceeded outside as we still had faith that the food would be excellent as the menu suggested. Two of the three tables we approached were not level. After receiving our drinks (12 minutes later) we decided to leave as the outside temperature was a bit cold to enjoy our brunch. Please be aware that 2 drinks were 35 dollars due to the failure of the server to mention any up charges on substitutions.
