We just moved to the area and nearly every single person who has learned of our move to Ghent has insisted that we become regulars at Bartlett House, and after this first visit, point taken. I probably could spare you all the details and just direct you to the happy face in the photo who has never tasted a danish so delicious, but I’ll give you a little rundown nonetheless. First, it took everything in my being not to order the pistachio croissant. It was my own choice to start with the basics and try the regular croissant first, and based on how delicious it was, I can say with full confidence that I’ll be back for that pistachio variation as soon as yesterday ;-) Like I said, the lovely woman’s face in the photo says it all when it comes to the cherry and cheese danish. She has very high standards for pastries and the single word that came out of her mouth after the first bite of pastry + cheese + cherry was “Perfection.” My main concern is that we’re less than 10 minutes from BH and I’m really trying to fit into my clothes this year. I will need broad community support on moderation, lest I’ll need an entirely new wardrobe. It’s going to take a village. Just get here. Fast!

Bartlett House is one of our favorites, and our return this last weekend (after a full year) was a delicious return. Croissants were sold out, so no pistachio croissants, but our two sandwiches were scrumptious. Although it was well past noon, we enjoyed breakfast sandwiches. The service was just fine. And we plan to go back to 'embers' the new outdoor grill set-up.

We love this place! Their breakfast sandwiches are amazing and their multigrain sourdough bread is so good I’m already regretting sharing how good it is, because it sells out fast. We’ve never tried Embers, but that’s next on our list. Always busy, so order in advance for pickup to avoid a long wait.

Love their atmosphere. Delicious coffee and bakery. Sitting outside you can calm and relax

Cool little hipster place. Amazing cappuccino. Fantastic atmosphere. Excellent breakfast sandwich’s. (Don’t get why these places can’t offer alternative American Cheese on sandwich’s. For the wife) but highly recommend!

Very upscale, chic breakfast cafe. The food is phenomenal and HOMEMADE treats are tastefully displayed. One of the owners were there to great us, young child on her hip to give a warm country welcome to this urban feeling experience. When you walk up to the building you can watch gourmet chef cooking in basement level kitchen. An extraordinary way to enter this cafe. There are several steps and did not see a wheel chair accessible entrance. $$$ but worth it. A great place to meet.

Very cool restaurant in a beautiful historic building. All tables and chairs are really beautiful too and the food is just as great as the setting. With local ingredients and masterful execution, this place makes an excellent brunch. Especially the hot skillets, those were absolutely fantastic and I would highly recommend any or all of them.

Great pastries! The pistachio croissants were especially delicious as we're the baguettes.

Upon the recommendation of a friend, I went to the new Slow Saturday dinner series at the Bartlett House. What an absolutely charming experience! From the welcome cocktail: a mixture of lemonade and sparkling wine, to the farmhouse decor, and attentive staff. The menu is 100% the chef's creation and what is available "hyper-locally" as he called it. The starter was an asparagus salad with a beet puree, light and interesting; the main course was a fresh spring take on a pot pie: spring peas, braised beef (i think), morels, and a deliciously buttery crust--it somehow still managed to taste pretty light! There was also a cabaret-like singing performance that was based off some audience participation. To finish the meal it was berries and cream with a cookie crumble, doled out table-side by the chef himself. Whether you're looking for a new experience on date night or just want to feel like you're going to a dinner party with a couple friends, go and check it out!

The breakfast sandwiches, soups, pastries and coffees are impeccable… the vibe is untouchable… but the thing that really sets this place apart is their staff member, Austin. In a time where every single restaurant is understaffed and every staff member is overworked, Austin went out of his way to not only ensure we had the most wonderful meal (which oh my goodness… we sure did) but also made certain that we got back to Hudson safely after our meals when the ride services were scarce. It was our last day upstate and we left with the warmest feeling in our hearts. I hope we can come again soon! Thank you Austin for truly making our weekend and for showing us that truly exceptional and thoughtful people exist (being from Manhattan, we may have forgotten this sort of kindness existed ;)) you are going far my friend!! We look forward to visiting Bartlett House again soon :)

Wowza best scones ever. Not to mention all other baked goods. Consistently high quality. Could use another staff person it’s SO popular things can get busy.

A must go! The baked goods and coffee drinks are deelish. The croissants are the best. We even ordered a box of them the day before because they can sell out. Charming, rustic place and friendly staff. Get a fancy flavored jam. You can order their various baked goods ahead of time to go (I saw a table full of pre-packaged bags). I loved my Forester breakfast sandwich (egg, seared meaty mushrooms, sautéed onions & Gruyère cheese) and honey latte! Oh and the ginger molasses cookie 🍪

This is my local spot for morning coffee (and a treat) and the folks who work here are the best. Always helpful and kind- plus they know their espresso drinks. I love to bring folks from out of town, never disappointed!

This place is WONDERFUL. Coffee drinks are super good (my Americano didn't even need cream) and you will need to get ALL THE BAKED GOODS. Bartlett house has amazing scones and some of the best croissants! Check em out

What a surprise! We were visiting the area to see our horse who is at a training center in Ghent. Out of no where we found The Bartlett House. The pastries are to die for. Wait until you see the size of the croissants. They make various other food dishes which you should try. Friendly staff and a quaint dining facility with books to read, as you eat. Clean and inviting. Not open to dining in but they have blankets if you want to eat on the porch. A must visit.

C

Food was good. Not the biggest selection, but what we had was bomb (fried chicken sando, ham sando, French onion soup). Bit of a line to get seated, but worth it. On the expensive side. Cool history and an in depth vibe. Worth the stop for lunch or brunch.

Very nice place! Picnic tables to sit outside. They also have a bowl so your dog can have some water to drink!

We found this place on a recommendation from the Inn we were staying at. For that, we are truly grateful. We arrived about 5 minutes before they opened and a line had already started to form outside. The building is a beautifully renovated historic structure (a plaque outside the front door states that it was built in 1870). There is both seating inside and on the large front porch. It was a gorgeous morning so my wife and I chose the porch seating. Once my wife saw they had a Kalamintsi lime soda, she was hooked. These are limes that are native to SE Asia and have a nice sweet, floral taste. My wife, being from Kuala Lumpur, just had to try one and it did not disappoint. She also absolutely loved the eggs benedict with smoked salmon. My chorizo breakfast sandwich was extremely tasty. The smoky chorizo went well with the fried egg, avocado, smashed pinto beans, and salsa. The homemade english muffin was nice and large... no skimpy sandwich here. There is a dedicated barista offering a wide selection of early morning caffeinated essentials. The cafe mocha I ordered was just the right "hit" I needed. We had bought a bunch of bakery items (maple pecan donut, danish, croissants, etc.) for the morning concert at Tanglewood. Everything was absolutely delicious. We may have to make another trip just to try all of the other food on their menu... and the other baked goods.

Cute and stylish with lots of seating indoor and out. Big selection of fresh baked goods and food - Delicious! Espresso drinks are just ok. Overall really great spot

This place is incredible. While a bit pricey I wholeheartedly believe it is because they use the best ingredients. I went here when I was visiting for a weekend away with my college friends. We went here for breakfast twice and lunch once. I was so impressed! I bought a jam to bring home and won't shut up about it to anyone! You have to go here, it is a pure gem!

Oh my my… these baked goods are really among the best. I debate driving the hour and 15 minutes from my house just to come for a pistachio croissant.

L
Leslie Vosshall

Best baked goods for miles and a great place for brunch/ lunch. Arrive early or after 2pm to avoid looooong wait if you want to sit down! For the best selection of takeout baked goods, arrive before 10am. Fantastic selection of loose teas by the ounce and incredible sourdough bread. Personal favorites are their famous double baked pistachio croissants and rarely found in the US Swedish Cardamom Buns, pretty close to what you will find in Stockholm.

Liked it so much we came back two mornings in a row. On the second day took home Doughnuts and croissants. The historic building is beautiful. The staff was very nice, he recognized us the second day. Really made us feel at home. The food is great! Highly recommend, if I didn’t live 3 hours away I would be there all the time.

Staff 10/10, Decor 10/10, Coffees 10/10, Porridge 10/10, Boston Cream 10/10, Sitting space 40/30 I don’t know what’s going on with the rest of the building, but it would be awesome if they added another layer for seating and Game play upstairs. Other than that, 10/10

Coffee superb, pastries too. Best in the area by a long long way.

I thought $10 was too much for an egg and cheese English muffin… but not this one. Loved that they made their own latte flavors, but the balance was not quite right cause the drink tasted mostly like an iced milk. The atmosphere inside was lovely and the grassy picnic area (in May) was heavenly.

This is my go-to place for breads and special treats. Everything is made fresh, and their pistachio croissant is absolutely to die for. The best time to go is around 8 a.m., as they often sell out by 9:30. They also make old-fashioned English muffins, available on weekends only. Milkshakes are made with local ice cream, which makes them extra special. I’ve enjoyed eating both inside and out on the porch, and the staff are always attentive and friendly. Stepping in here truly feels like stepping back in time. A wonderful spot that never disappoints.

Updating this to 5 stars. I've been back several times. Everything is always out of this world. We haven't had a sit down meal since before the pandemic, but the service at the counter is always superb. Love this place. Excellent food. Excellent baked goods. Beautiful ambiance. Impeccable decor. Drinks were good. Service was friendly, a tick slower than is appropriate but they were very busy. Service was friendly and polite so I think it can be forgiven. They might need a bit more front of house staff on the weekends? Overall great meal. We will be back.

Had a great birthday lunch here! It was my first time visiting the Bartlett House. I loved learning about the history of the Bartlett House and the transitions to becoming what it is now. The food was scrumptious! Yummy! I highly recommend adding this stop to your agenda. Thank you Bartlett House!!

This place was fantastic. Staff was friendly. Everything was clean. I had a blackberry, beet and cheese Danish, which was perfect. It was so fresh and the perfect amount of sweet and crispy. I also had a flat white coffe, which was perfectly made. I had to wait for it for a little longer than usual as there was a line ahead of me but totally worth the wait. They had a wide variety of pastries and other breakfast menu items. Would 100% go back!

Really great cafe treats and coffee, but the hot chocolate is the star here with their giant homemade marshmallows! We ordered the fried chicken sandwich which is also delicious. They also sell their own jams and other goodies up front.

What a gem in a small town! French bakery at its best. Pistachio croissant seems like the signature pastry, the ham and cheese ones won the hearts of my kids. Very busy Café with seating area on the second floor with a full baking operation on the first floor. Coffee was good not great. Nice ambience overall. We went back two days in a row.

Had the privilege of attending a Slow Saturday dinner at Bartlett House and couldn't recommend it enough! Amazing food and the ambiance is so warm and inviting. You could really feel the attention to detail from both the back and front of house, and there is something so special about having a community seating time for a shared dinner! Everyone there was having a great time and it was a perfect way to spend the evening.

Nice building. Nice setting. Nice food. Went there for breakfast and had a good selection of pastries and breads. Not a donut fan here but I would have tried one since they looked amazing. Had their bostock and the mini scone, both very well done. The craffin with cream was unpair, might be a bit too sweet but tasted really good. I'll be definitely be back and try this spot for lunch. They have a nice outdoor space too and plenty of parking. Please add bread, butter and jam to your menu!

The Bartlett House is a hidden gem in the Hudson Valley/Albany Plains area! Beautiful train house transformed into a bakery/coffee shop. This is a must stop. Baguettes, baked goods, milkshakes, everything is delicious. It is a little expensive but it's worth it for the quality food and friendly service. Not too far off the Taconic so it's a great stop.

This is my perfect cafe!! I didn’t get great pics of my food, but let’s just say the big hash brown is soooo iconic. Don’t skip the milkshake bar, too! Lots of friendly faces working and an overall great vibe. I’ll be back soon!

The food here is fantastic. I got the beet salad for lunch and it was absolutely refreshing! I recommend ordering online because the wait can be very long, but it's definitely worth it. I got half a dozen pastries and two coffees here one morning as well and everything was great! I was in a bit of a rush and they were super quick with making the drinks and they were superb. I got the blueberry rose latte and my husband got the mocha - they're small drinks but every sip is delicious. The pastries are completely out of this world. Do not skip them!

I never write review, but the service I had today was perfection. As a restaurant manager myself, I completely understand when a business is closed. I walked in about 30-35 minutes after closing (my bad, I didn’t check times) after getting a tattoo and was in desperate need of something quick to drink. She was accommodating and friendly, which is so important. My love for this place has been completely refreshed ( and never lost) . Will absolutely return.

By far one of the best bakeries in all of New York. I have been living off of baked goods from here for the past few years, and enjoy all Bartlett House foods - from the exquisite and delicious sourdough to the the crunchy and classic croissants. The place has a lovely and unique vibe, with a grand set of stairs going up to the bakery, and the tables looking out on the flowers planted outside. A wall of bowls and jams stands at the back of the restaurant, providing decorative elements as you enjoy some of the most memorable and amazing dinner plates you will ever eat. The jams from Bartlett house are an aesthetic of their own, and so textured and exquisite that their taste is hard to forget (I myself recommend the four reds jam on crepes). All in all, would definitely recommend a trip to the Bartlett house.

Drove an hour and a half just to have breakfast and the best coffee in the area. The surrounding area is absolutely beautiful. Sat on the deck, just enjoyed the whole background atmosphere of peacefulness while enjoying a wonderful meal. As you order, you just look down the counter and view all of those wonderful artisanal baked goods. You wanna buy everything that is displayed, but you must have control too! There’s always a chance to purchase more each time you come up. The pistachio croissant out of this world, next time I will indulge in another one of their delectable items. It’s not like the Bartlett house is going anywhere it’s gonna be around for a long time ! Until then I shall return!

Total treasure hiding in plain sight on the main road through tiny Ghent. Even open 7 days in winter (daily 8-2). Destination-worthy. Housemade pastries are the main feature and are divine (pistachio croissant! maple pecan doughnut!). There is a savory breakfast-lunch menu also, and based on our only sampling, the “farmhouse” b’fast sandwich (awesome, on a game-changing English muffin), it should all be tried and be great. Super friendly staff, proper coffee from SF-based Sightglass, plenty of seating. Can’t wait to return.

Incredibly friendly staff. My husband is a hot fried chicken sandwich junkie and he said BH's was the best he's ever had. Didn't think I would ever write a review about a salad but just wow! The seasonal (greens, walnuts, apples, cheddar, etc.) with a lemon vin was so amazingly tasty, fresh, clean and filling. It was so big it took of us to finish. I have biscuits for tomorrow morning and they look delicious. Seating might be an issue at prime times - we were incredibly lucky to have a picture perfect late fall day with abundant sunshine so we grabbed a picnic table (they bring the food out to you). The line was a bit long but it moved quickly. You can definitely tell who's local and who's got an attitude and thinks locals are rubes. Just ignore them, shoo away their negativity and enjoy a beautiful day with kind people and delicious food.

The food has never disappointed (they poach a perfect egg for their eggs Benedict, and I’m particular about that). Their baked goods are amazing. There can be a wait for coffee drinks as there is only room for one barista, but they do a good job. Sometimes the clientele skews rude weekend folks, but overall, it’s a nice place to go.

From the design to the baked goods and the flowers on your way in... this place is a dream!!! We stop anytime we are in the area! My favorite is the farmers breakfast sandwich and howls owl milkshake! If there were 100 star, I'd give it that many!

I planned a quick stop here before heading to Art Omi for a solo adventure. There have been so many great reviews that I was excited to check the place out for myself. Customer service was excellent - friendly and helpful staff. The building itself is beautiful! There is inside dining as well as outdoor seating on the deck, which looks out over the flowers in bloom. You can feel the history of this place in the best way possible. On this day, it was just a quick grab and go for me, but I look forward to coming back and time to enjoy a meal. I had to try the hashbrown, which was served with both a homemade ketchup and a homemade aioli. I had never tried aioli with a hashbrown before - and it was delicious! Chai tea was perfectly made as well. I brought the pastries home for a later treat, and they were excellent as well. I will make sure to stop here again this summer.

In all my travels and of my 2 million reviews I have posted, I have to say this was the best eggs Benedict I have ever had as well as the donut and Scone. One of my favorite bakeries. It’s a little bit far from nyc but I can go sometimes. Because there are good places to go near the bakery. I liked all the breads and sandwiches with coffees we ordered. The texture and flavors are always good. The staff are friendly and the store is always clean even the restroom. I love all the details. p.s. there is a elevator for wheelchair. Only one thing I don’t like : putting all the bread in thin paper bag even though for eating there. I don’t like mix all together or cream on the other bread.

My mom and I stumbled upon this charming eatery on our way home from an overnight in Hudson, NY. We were there on a Sunday around lunchtime. There was a line, but it went quickly, and it gave you time to make your food choices. Everyone there was chatting away happily, and I felt sorry I did not live nearby to enjoy it more often. Food and drink delicious, staff super friendly and helpful, bathroom clean, you can eat in or out. Thumbs up big time for Bartlett House!

This is a must go spot if you are ever in the neighbourhood. Great coffee, bakery and breakfast. They have indoor and outdoor seating and is usually packed during rush hours. The interior has a vintage vibe to it. Their bakery items are all amazing, Pistachio Croissant is a must try

Cool little spot/find in the middle of absolutely no where. Bakery, breakfast and brunch. I think the 5 stars it definitely warranted given what’s in the area. The food is very good, not amazing. The bakery items looked really good. I just don’t think you will much anything of this quality nearby. I enjoyed the pea hummus and the hash brown was really unique. The roasted veggie quesadilla was good, but it can be improved upon. Really like the drinks, it’s a little expensive. $30 pp for lunch

Great food, drinks and atmosphere! We love the croissants. I reluctantly have to remove a star for the straws being unwrapped, exposed to customers, and packed all together in the middle of a pandemic. Still enjoyed the iced tea though!

I'm in love with their delicious and fresh baguettes! Only they tend to sell out of them on weekends by 10 am! However, I think this place both smells and tastes delicious ( of the items I've tried at least) . I will also say that their coffee is good, and I appreciate their in house homemade almond milk. Enjoy!

The ambience, the staff and the food were great. I take one star because the service was very slow. We went with two young kids and the dinning took more than 2 hours. Maybe good place to go with friends because you can talk. But hard to wait for drinks and food when you have kids is hard.

One of the nicest places to dine around hudson ny. Lovely surroundings, food is most interesting. Even a ham and cheese sandwich takes on a life of its own. Although this season dinning is pick up or eat at a picnic bench, it's still great. No matter if I'm coming or going I always stop off here. Worth going out of your way to dine here. Highly recamended! PS...great French fries!

We left the house in a hurry this morning so we decided to go to Barlett House to grab a quick pastry. The staff were really kind but also seemed quite distracted. After ordering, the gentleman who prepares the drinks went to bring another couple their order and he stood there chatting with them for a while, leaving us waiting. It was weird and the other staff were obviously frustrated by it. The fresh pastries all looked amazingly delicious -- it was genuinely difficult to choose just one. I got a Cinnamon Twist Donut (I actually hate donuts so this was a big move) with a Chai Latte and my husband got the Ham & Swiss Croissant. The Donut was full of layers more like a cronut -- I was pleasantly surprised by this. It was packed full of flavor. My husband's pastry was cold -- would have been better if offered to have been warmed but he said it was still good. The Chai latte was not made similarly to what I'm used to, it was an adjustment. The building and the restaurant ordering area are very charming -- a French bakery style. I absolutely loved it and we will be back with our daughter who dreams to go to Paris. 🙂

I've never eaten in here, only ordered their pastries and coffee drinks , so can't give five star. the pastries are very good. You have to order any pastries/bread the night before online and pick them up next day, otherwise get there when they open, or they are sold out. my favorites are the pistachio croissant and cardamom buns , exceptional. my husband likes the chocolate croissant, but it's just small with a little bit of chocolate, not impressed. there are coffee drinks are nicely done. Downside is nothing is organic. menu shows nice options for lunch but haven't tried it yet. service is slow when ordering sandwiches to go; plan to wait 20-30 minutes. Lovely grounds with outdoor seating.

Excellent pastries. Very good egg sandwich. Fine cold brew. 15 minute wait in line to order at 10am on Labor Day, then 5-10 more minutes for egg sandwiches to come out. Tight quarters inside while waiting. Next time I'll order ahead online.

The only reason I didn’t give them five stars is the prices. NYC prices in Ghent, NY spells tourist and weekender traffic over locals. The food is excellent, as are the espresso based coffee drinks, but there are other places nearby where you don’t feel the bill sting quite so much. It is a nice setting and the staff is friendly and helpful. They’ve certainly tapped in to the weekend crowd, and other very expensive places in the Hudson Valley, like the Maker Hotel in Hudson, serve their coffee and delicious pastries. I guess NYC and Boston expats can remember big city prices when they visit, but it feels like they’re making hay while the sun shines on peak summer weekends.

Great food. Star was the burger. Pistachio croissant was amazing too. Really slow service. Waited 40 mins for food. Had to prompt wait staff for utensils.

We stayed in the area 2 months ago for a few weeks, and have stayed there before, going back a few years. The barista they have now makes lattes much faster than a former one. When ordering hot food, you can't go wrong, but some of the pastries, like the pistachio croissants and the cornmeal scones, have either been baked in too hot an oven, or they have been reheated. We spent a lot of time trying to figure that out. The donuts are all great while the scones are very dry. It is fun to sit out on the porch when it's cold. Blankets are provided in a basket inside. The last photo is of my own sticky buns. They did not seem familiar with sticky buns, at all, so I sent them this photo and my recipe.

Food was good (although a bit underseasoned) - the pastry selection was impeccable. The few things that brought this review down a star were that they didn’t pay attention to special notes (we ordered a breakfast sandwich on a croissant and they didn’t honor that, even though they charged extra for it) and when we brought it to the attention of the server who brought out our food, she seemed not particularly willing to help with that, even after we clarified that we were charged extra for it. Would recommend the Forester and the Jelly Donut, as well as the coffees, which were all delicious. Skip the hash brown, it was more similar to a fried mashed potato. Would also recommend making sure the door for the wheelchair-accessible entrance is open from the outside during business hours. A group had to bang on the door loudly in order to get in.

This is a clean, lovely place with food that is not what it once was. I used to love to have breakfast here. I believe Covid is responsible for the service problem although all staff I have come in contact with were very nice. A positive thing to say is that everything I have had here over the years (since they opened) is always fresh. My complaint is about the two pullman loaves they offer. The Sourdough multigrain and Pain de mie. Only once did I purchase a loaf of pain de mie that was not baked properly and I would describe as too soft similar to "wonderbread." My real problem is with the sourdough multigrain. Prices have gone up. I understand that, but after spending $9.50 a loaf, I believe the quality should be excellent. Part of the problem may be bagging the bread (in plastic), and perhaps slicing while it is still warm. The other problem is with the baking. A pullman loaf should not have holes and the crumb should be consistant thoughout. Is the dough too wet? Is it not spread evenly in the pan? The slices are almost impossible to separate (I actually used a knife to cut them apart today). I have complained about this to no avail. I honestly believe this problem with the baking and packaging can be fixed. Please!

My husband and I went here for breakfast about a month ago. Although the egg sandwich was very good, $12 is very expensive for one egg, cheese, bacon, and an English muffin. The ambience was nice, but I can’t justify driving nearly 45 minutes for breakfast. Perhaps they cater to NYC patrons?

Is it cute? It’s very cute. Is the food good? Not really. Is the service friendly or efficient? Not in the least. If you want to wait for a long time to eat food that arrives cold and get a nasty response from the server when you ask a question to figure out whose order is whose then this is your place. Otherwise maybe skip.

I’ve always loved the food here - it’s delicious - but unfortunately, the service is disappointing. My friend and I arrived around 11:30 am, well after the morning rush, and waited more than 45 minutes for our order, despite the restaurant being nearly empty. To make matters even more confusing, a family of six who arrived 20 minutes after us received their food before we were even acknowledged. I’m not sure if the delay was due to being understaffed, disorganization, or the distraction of a celebrity dining in at the same time, but regardless, it was frustrating to be overlooked. I was really looking forward to having a nice experience since today is also my birthday and Bartlett House is where I wanted to start the day, but In the end, I had to ask for my meal to go and left without any recognition or apology for the wait. It’s a shame because I genuinely enjoy the food, but the service doesn’t match the quality coming out of the kitchen. I hope they address this, because this place has so much potential.

Super disappointed with Bartlett House. Although the vibe is welcoming and cute, we did not have a good food experience. We ordered a house made lemonade, which tasted bizarre, kind of like old spoiled lemons mixed with water and honey. I had the salad with grilled chicken. While the actual salad was fine (greens with radish and avocado), the chicken was dry, hard and rubbery and the dressing was bland. My husband had the fried chicken sandwich, which was literally fried chicken on a bun (no fries or salad). He said it was good. We also ordered a chocolate croissant which we asked to be warmed. They never brought us our croissant and we had to go back and ask for it again. They gave it to us cold. To be fair, the croissant was good, but was tainted by the previous bad experience. Total cost was a ridiculous $60!!! Unfortunately, I wouldn’t return and wouldn’t recommend or if I did come back, I’d just get a pastry and coffee.

My husband and I used to come here whenever we stayed in Hudson for a mini-vacay, and always enjoyed it for the nice historic building and cozy vibe, fantastic pastries, and good food, especially the Dutch baby pancakes. But the last time we came we were very disappointed. They no longer have table service, which really changed the experience. Not knowing this when we arrived made for some confusion.… we were waiting for a table, but no one bothered to explain to us that you order at the counter first. It no longer felt relaxed, or elegant. The food was disappointing as well, though the pastries still look great (we didn’t indulge). We’re heading back to the area soon, and I’m wondering if they’ve gone back to full service. If so, we’ll give them another try. In the past, I would have given 5 stars. I just now gave two instead of one in a nod to their past glory.

I got a ham and cheese on a baguette and it was thrown together by a small child it was embarrassing that they served it to me and the price was outrageous!!!!! At least they have great bread going for them !!!

Food was fine, atmosphere tricks you into thinking that this place is better than it truly is, but what was most surprising to me was the service. Staff with an attitude worse than the busiest diner from New York City, made a lot of misses on the order but then instead of fixing it, try to convince that it’s you and not them.. one of the guys taking an order made me repeat my order three time, guess not enough diversity in their customers for him to track a slight accent!! Ghent is such a pretty neat little area, shame that chose this place over others for my breakfast stop

Dear Bartlett House, take the breakfast quesadilla off your menu or make a sincere effort to redeem this horrible, morning-ruining plate of awful food. I can’t speak for other menu items but this one is truly awful. It says there’s pinto beans in it but all I saw was a slimy film of grey residue. You could choke on the rubbery excess of cold melted cheese and barely-salted eggs. It’s so bad you guys. Add seasoning. Cumin. Coriander. Anything to actually be worthy of “Mexican”. Actually crisp up the tortilla. Add a real portion of seasoned beans. Salt the eggs! Do something. Anything. But do not ruin your good reputation with this disgusting menu item. It’s truly upsetting.

I try to not write negative reviews, but I felt the need here with the price being so high. The Fried Chicken Sandwich, which was recommended, was Texas toast, an overcooked chicken thigh half the size of the bread with a few pickles and a quarter sized smear of sauce. Hardly worth $18. And then $7 for French fries that were Herb and garlic seasoned. They were lightly salted at best. If you're going for the pastries and coffee, you're fine. But for a meal? I'd travel a little farther towards Hudson.

The food was poor in taste. However, the "locals" all seemed to enjoy it. A bit bizarre is the fact that "you clear your own tables after eating." That is after paying some extravagant prices. They have an 'elevator' for the disabled, but no directions how to operate it. We were very disappointed here and won't go back there.

My wife and I stopped in to the Bartlett house on a Sunday afternoon with in tensions to pick up a box of pastries to impress guests visiting us for a few days. We were greeted by hostess and we told her we wanted to pick up pastries at the counter. We glanced at the baked goods for a few minutes and we're completely invisible to the two people behind the counter. My wife and I waited for quite a while without being spoken to. We decided to move away from the pastry counter and more towards the register to see if we would then be acknowledge... No such luck. We were completely transparent! Nobody would even look at us. we decided to take the drive into Hudson. Well worth it. We stumbled across patisserie Lenox Hudson. Well worth it!!! Amazing selection of baked goods and staff was very friendly. Very happy with all the delicious pastries we picked up. We have been to the Bartlett house for lunch twice before when it first opened and we're impressed but that has changed for us. Wouldn't go back.

Poor uninspired service. No one wearing gloves but had no trouble running hands thru hair, touching there faces etc. 17$ for a turkey sandwich that was as soulless as the as the restaurant. No cheese pickle chips or taste for that matter. Obviously close to bankruptcy as even the locals will be hard pressed to frivolously spend there inheritance money at.

I don’t often review but this experience was so bad. When we arrived no one even made eye contact. We had to ask if we could eat. Response was yes only outside. That was fine. We ordered food came out in boxes. I asked for a plate and was denied. I had roast beef. I asked for a knife to cut it and she gave me a plastic knife . Good luck cutting a toasted roll of roast beef with that. They actually had the nerve to add a charge on our bill for take out. We owned a restaurant for 14 years and just can’t believe how bad this experience was. I hope it was a one time thing…

Used to be my favorite place for breakfast. Hot food and service has gone downhill. It breaks my heart, but bread and baked good are still good. However, most of my favorites like the pistachio croissant are no longer there. I felt awful when I brought my guests from out of town, who paid 16 dollars for a subpar breakfast sandwich. We couldn’t even finish them, they were so terrible. We order two farmer breakfast and one lox with egg. The English muffin wasn’t very good and the sandwich was dry. 😢 please improve and go back to full service!!! I miss you guys and edited my 5 star review from 2 years ago to a 1 star. This is my second bad experience in the past two months.

Traveled 45 minutes. Arrived no one to greet you, very unorganized. Asking other patrons how this works. Order food and find a table? what table? outside at 50 degrees? No parking either. . They should consider table service or a hostess to direct all the lines. Too much stress for me to eat out. Probably would not return, but looks like a quaint place. Too bad.
