A family member suggested we come here while in Glasgow and I am so glad we listened! Our server Niamh was delightful, so friendly and attentive. The food was terrific, I had the steak and my husband tried the haggis, both were perfectly seasoned and so flavourful. We shared the carrots and cauliflower sides and those were also amazing. We are going to try and come back again before we leave!! Do not skip the Chip!
Highly recommend the Brassiere for a relaxed dining experience. Good selection available on the menu. Lovely atmosphere and decor, a real gem. Food was flavourful and just the right portion sizes. Could tell thought had gone into the dishes. Good wine selection and cocktail list too.
Lovely meal at The Chip. We've not been for a while since the ownership change as we thought that might signal a decline. We were wrong. Great food served well by Emily. Lovely cocktails and wine choice. The two drink servers made sure we got exactly what we wanted. Atmosphere and decor great. What more could you want.
Visited the bar area mid afternoon on a cold January day. Had some bar snacks and a drink. Food was great. The bar man was very knowledgeable about the different wines on offer. It was very relaxed and comfortable. There was a real fire in the grate which added to the atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit.
I don’t recall where the recommendation came from, but it was suggested to try the tasting menu, especially for those who are looking to have a culinary experience that highlights the elevated Scottish cuisine. Locally sourced foods backed by the amazing ambience and atmosphere give an amazing authentic atmosphere and experience. Would highly recommend to anyone who has one restaurant to try while in Glasgow.
Last night, we visited the ever popular Ubiquitous Chip and it was another great dining experience. The Chip (as it's known) is a sister business to Stravaigin (another favourite of ours) and it's recently reopened after a bit of a refurbishment. There are various spaces to enjoy including a pub and bar as well as a large multi level restaurant area. The vaulted glass cieling area is a mix of brick, iron and big green plants. It's softened by interesting artwork, especially the stairway to the bathroom. Staff are always attentive, casual in approach but knowledgable. The atmosphere is always buzzing and the crowd tends to be very local. We enjoyed torched makeral and pigeon to start. Followed by sea trout and venison. To finish our meal, the desserts (chocolate delice and fig & custard) were the highlight. Highly recommend this Ashton Lane stalwart.
Got the venison burger and it was so good I literally said "wow" on first bite. Most everything else was excellent too. Ordered a martini and the staff was super apologetic not to have olives, but it was still a lovely drink. The burger came with unexpected chips, and the wine was excellent, and it's a nice place with good atmosphere and terrific service. Highly recommended.
Had a great lunch. The service from Niamh & the tall Manager ((didn’t get their name) was excellent: Very attentive yet not intrusive. We had intended to have a mixture of Vegan/Vegetarian Taster Menus & a regular Menu, however we were unaware that the Taster element would take up to 3 1/2 hrs. I had not seen this on your website and we didn’t have that amount of time, therefore we ate off of the main menu: Food was excellent.
I came here for a celebratory dinner, and we tried their tasting menu! It was an incredible experience; each course was flavorful and uniquely done. I had the best duck of my life here! The atmosphere was lovely, and the staff were so kind. Don't visit Glasgow without stopping here!
As good as ever! Been eating here for >25 years when passing through Glasgow. Very relieved to find that still just as amazing under new ownership. Tasting menu was as ever interesting, thoughtful and perfectly pitched. Accompanying wine was equally superb. Great location, great service. Very reasonable for quality. What a place.
Delicious food, friendly staff and atmosphere! Recommended!💯✅
The restaurant atmosphere was great except for the loud shouting next table!! The restaurant stay late and can order food till approx. 9:30pm. The food was great and the passionfruit cheesecake was wonderful, however, we were celebrating our anniversary and we mentioned that in our reservation, a massage on the dessert we ordered such as “Happy Anniversary” would have been a remarkable wonderful touch from the restaurant.
Reservation very recommended. “Unique and memorable dining experience with its distinct atmosphere and decor” Atmosphere - cozy and inviting atmosphere, a "jungle chic" vibe, features a small water pool and abundant greenery Decor - The decor of Ubiquitous Chip is both artistic and rustic, featuring elements that emphasize natural beauty and Scottish cultural motifs. The use of plants and water elements adds to the overall charm and creates a visually appealing environment Food and Drinks - The menu at Ubiquitous Chip showcases the best of Scottish cuisine, with a focus on local produce and seasonal ingredients. impressive range of drinks, including craft cocktails and a comprehensive wine list. Overall positive, good quality of food, the uniqueness of the setting, long wait times during peak hours.
Absolutely stunning experience from start to finish. The service was attentive without being overbearing, the food was exceptional (hands down the best Sunday roast I’ve had!), and the venue itself is just gorgeous. I went on a sunny Sunday and the way the light streamed through made everything feel magical. A perfect spot for a relaxed yet elevated meal—can’t wait to return.
Went here for my graduation lunch and the food and atmosphere was amazing! We had 3 courses plus drinks and it was less than £50 a person. I would definitely recommend
Great atmosphere, delicious food, absolutely stunning decor. Really enjoyed it, and will definitely come back. Delicious wines, varied menu and top quality ingredients.
Amazing decor. Great drinks and menu. Loved having a vegetarian tasting menu. Wish they advised we needed to specify if we wanted a tasting menu when making our reservation. Glad they were able to accommodate. Time in between courses was a bit long. Looking forward to coming back.
Definitely the place for a fancy occasion, it's otherwise a bit too pricey for a casual meal. But the service and atmosphere are sublime. Their selection of ice wines are incredible, and the food overall were delicious. They looked small but were actually very filling!
Great to see the chip back after a refurb with some tlc. tasty food, friendly service and love the vibe.
This was a fantastic restaurant for a nice night out. I went here with a friend and we both got scallops and venison, both of which were amazing. The service was also very good, as our server was attentive and informative. Overall I would definitely recommend going here at some point if you can.
We had the tasting menu and prestige wine flight. Fabulous food and service. We do feel the cheese was too cold as a minor point and having to pay for coffee and petit fours is cheeky other than those minor points it was faultless and we have mention Dan the sommelier what a great knowledgeable guy.
An excellent lunch of scallops and then beef. Delicious. I have to mention the cheese plate. Good cheese plates are hard to find but this one was without fault. Our waiter knew what was on it and sold it well. It did not disappoint. Well done. Thank you.
The Chip has multiple bar and restaurant areas, each with a slighly different vibe to suit any type of visit/group. This is our favourite place to stop in the summer for a few drinks. Highly recommend if you're looking for quality food, great drinks selection for wine/beer, and great ambiance with beautiful old school pub vibes.
Came to this restaurant and overall was a good experience. Service was the highlight of our visit, with our server being super helpful at explaining the menu as requested. Food was a bit of a hit and miss, but good overall. The cocktails were great and they do offer an interesting selection. Overall worth a visit
SUCH a cute place in a great location. The walk to the restaurant was gorgeous and the restaurant itself was a stunning greenhouse! The food was delicious and they had a whole vegan menu, which was great. The Cauliflower was outstanding! The service was a bit slow, especially for a weekday lunch when they weren’t busy, but still a wonderful experience!
27.09.25 Updated review to reply: If it's likely to not get charged £25 per person by cancelling then it should be considered changing the wording on the cancelling policy. If it is for no shows mainly (which I do understand btw). Added photo/screenshot for booking policy. Initial review: The food was amazing and the service was good too. Giving 4* because if you happen to not manage to go within less than 24h they will charge £25 per person on the booking. Which is a bit cheeky! I understand lots of people won't even bother cancelling but I would say £10 per person with maybe 12h notice it would be understanding.
A real Glasgow institution. Definitely one of the city’s most unique and beautiful restaurants with a maze of rooms and bars to chose from over 3 floors, including a hidden gem of a rooftop beer garden. The service is fantastic and the food is great. I had the Jerusalem artichokes with pickled walnuts and beetroot. We also tried the side salad and roasted harissa carrots. Downstairs there is an a la carte and also tasting menu for finer dining. Upstairs is a more middle-range brasserie.
Turned up without a reservation but no problem getting a table. French onion soup was quite tasty, with big chunky cheesy bread. But boiling hot, I had to wait 20m before I could finish it. Haggis, neeps, tatties were good, pretty classic, with a nice sauce
This Glasgow institution was bought out by the Hong Kong owned Suffolk mega brewery Greene King a few years back at which point local beers disappeared from the bar and I thus did likewise. However, on checking it out the other night, I was delighted to find an excellent range of indigenous draught ales on offer. Better be a great venue that doesn’t force foreign beer on the customer than a crap one that only sells it! It really is a lovely place - good beer (now) and good food). I’ll be back.
Excellent food, very slow service. We were there for the tasting menu on Valentine's Day, and after the starter and main courses, which were fantastic, it became very clear the waiting staff had forgotten about us. It took close to 30 minutes for the sorbet to be served, and that was only after I flagged someone down and asked for the next course. I don't know what happened, because the service had been pretty good until that point, but then after a certain time, the waiting staff seemed noticeably less friendly and attentive. We arrived at 6:15pm and ended up cutting the meal short and leaving at 10pm, which I feel is a long time, even for a tasting menu. I also had to ask for the bill twice. It's a shame because the meal was honestly on its way to being a 10/10 experience until the service fell off hard. Although it was Valentine's Day, the restaurant was far from being full, so I wonder if something happened behind the scenes to affect the service. We'd heard great things about Ubiquitous Chip and were so looking forward to trying it, but I very much doubt we'll be back after this.
It seems like corporatisation has had its effect on these formerly excellent restaurant. Overpriced plates with mediocre flavours. We were placed next to the door, so a drafty experience would be my most modest description. On the positive side, the staff were friendly and excellent as always, so glad this hasn’t changed. And the atmosphere amongst the greenery, the music that allows you to converse and the well spaced tables are what really saved this review.
It’s a Glasgow institution, I know. But a 40 minute wait between mains and sides just isn’t ok. “Bringing it out when it’s ready” is ok for tapas but here it just feels like shirking the effort of co-ordination and timing. Granted, our sides were taken off the bill because I had to nudge that we were still waiting on 2 plates, but it was a substantial amount of money for a relatively small amount of food and a large amount of frustration. The food was decent enough, the service was fine, but there are better places elsewhere. Sorry, Chip.
Place is looking great but I was disappointed in the food - beetroot starter was like a dip for crisps and the partridge was rubbery and overdone. Found the waitress completely unsmiling and unwelcoming. Overall, there’s a way to go here - and the Glasgow competition these days is stiff….
I was looking forward to try one of the most famous and well established restaurant in Glasgow. Unfortunately my experience was very disappointing for various reasons, includinging waiting time, service and most important quality of food and portion of size. My partner had a Sunday roast which took ages to arrive and the portion of beef was very small, despite being tasty. The rest of the dish was reheated and overcooked. I have ordered a medium steak but it was definitely undercooked. The staff never apologised for that.
My friend and I went to this place yesterday. It was the worst experience ever. The food was disgusting. I ordered half a chicken, and in all restaurants, half a chicken literally means half a chicken. But on my plate, I was served three fillets from chicken thighs. The entire dish was oversalted. It was impossible to eat. I ended up with heartburn. I will never return to this place and I don’t recommend it to anyone. Don’t spend a single penny in this awful place. Good food should always lift your mood. But after this meal, I’m still upset
So disappointed that I feel compelled to write this review but have no other recourse. Reserved a table for seven plus a high chair for 6pm in The Brasserie last night to celebrate a new member arriving into the family. Whilst the food presented was mainly acceptable the service was arrogant and abysmal. The waiter attending to us was unsure about any menu being available for children but then brought out a Kids Menu. We chose tomato pasta and he brought out pesto pasta (not a problem for us so we accepted it) but on a large plate with a large spoon. On requesting a small plate and teaspoon - no plate arrived. Requesting bread for mussells, and spoons - neither appeared and a starter of haggis arrived tepid when everyoe else had finished theirs. No spoon to serve veg for mains and when we requested one for the cauliflower-cheese the waiter said, "You could just take it out with your forks." Requested horseradish sauce and he brought out individual portions of what we considered creamed butter with a hint of "something." Waiter insisted it was horseradish ... made in the kitchen. No dessert was offered... I declined to pay the service charge (have never done this before) and payment was takenby another member of staff. No one asked how we enjoyed our meal at any point, nor asked why the service charge was removed. This has been a favourite restaurant of ours since 1971 - sadly no more.
Family ladies lunch, booked for 1.30 pm. Lovely server, but waited 1 hour 40 for some of our table to receive any food. The last main course arrived 2 hours after being ordered and it was a charcuterie board!! No cooking needed. Customer service great as they ( in the end) didn’t charge us for the food. Would I go back again? Very, very, unlikely. There are lots of great places to eat in Glasgow this isn’t one of them.
