Neon Sushi in Glenville offers good quality sushi at fair prices, with signature rolls being a favorite. The interior is surprisingly pleasant, but the exterior needs renovation. Service can be inconsistent, and some menu descriptions are lacking.

Great food & atmosphere. You cannot go wrong with any roll there!
Love their buy one specialty roll get a regular roll free every Wednesday and Thursday. Staff is always nice.
I'm not a sushi person but their hibachi is fantastic! The sauce they put on it is unbeatable, and its always cooked to perfection.
This place has the best sushi I've ever tasted. The Alligator Roll is absolutely amazing and I highly recommend it, and checking out this place.
Best sushi in the capital district hands down. A little pricey but the food is always fresh and delicious.
Great ambiance, great sushi, great food in general. My favorite local sushi restaurant :)
Great food for a reasonable price! Great service and nice atmosphere.
Thursday nite special, buy 1 signature roll, get regular roll free, is our favorite go-to meal when we crave sushi.
Great sushi. In and out quickly at lunch. Great specials. Highly recommend.
Great place for sushi and other Asian dishes. Good for the whole family.
Food was very good and reasonable, service could have been better.
Great service and delicious food came out hot and great sushi rolls.
Great sushi and general tso chicken. Their lunch deals and bento boxes are well priced for a full meal
Great restaurant! I've come here for years. :)
I ordered the lunch bento box salmon on top of sweet onions, it was tasty. The crab rangoons were not greasy and had a great taste and crunch. I really enjoyed it.
Got takeout from here for the first time last night - sushi was ready right on time and was delicious. Seems like a cool spot inside as well, will be returning soon!
The sushi from here is so good! The only problem I have with this place is that it can be quite expensive. Definitely worth it tho! Their wonton soup is one of the reasons I like to go here!
The food is great here! The Gyoza is the best I've had and the Neon roll is my favorite. Prices are good too. Can't wait to go back!
Typically come here for sushi and sashimi for takeout. Pleasant, clean environment inside, recently updated. Food is excellent and nice quality.
Love it here! Not too many frills, just consistently tasty food!
Godzilla rolls & some crushed grapes, in a awesome spot with good people
The steak hibachi was soo good! I ordered to go!
Always fresh and never have gotten sick from food like another local place. Great unique rolls and clean location 👍
Fast service, and good sushi. We go here for the three-roll lunch special, which is the best value in the area.
Love this place where else can you go and get a bento box that fills you up for 11 dollars, they do have a bar for adult beverages.
Best place within an hour of Albany to get sushi!
Every meal for years has been well prepared and delicious. Highly recommend. Edit: 2 years later and still consistently great food.
Everything was amazing! Our sushi and hibachi was excellent and came out very quickly. The server was extremely helpful and very attentive. Really great food for a very reasonable price.
For upstate new york, this is a 5 star joint. Service is great, manager is very friendly, and food is delicious. I have probably been on site 5 or 6 times and had a few meals that were amazing. There specialty roll's are to die for.
One of the few places around with decent lunch deals. Solid amount and variety of food for ~$10. Staff is very nice as well. Have not tried sushi yet
The food is great. The prices are right on. If you want a deal get whatever special they have written up when you walk in it has lead to me trying a lot of new things. Sashimi is always wonderful. The drink menu is also tasty.
Sushi is phenomenal, and specials are great. There are 2 sushi places near my house, but I often drive an extra 10-15 minutes to Neon. Hibachi dishes and beef negimaki are also yummy. And you get the most bang for your buck with the lunch boxes here vs other places.
This is the best sushi place around. You can't go wrong with any sushi roll on the menu, and the aged tofu is incredibly delicious. My friend lived in Japan and she introduced me to this place because of it's authenticity. The outside looks strange because it used to be a friendly's but the inside is totally cool. Nice staff, welcoming to families and couples alike. I can't drive by now without my daughter asking for sushi, but who would want to drive by without stopping anyway? Try the amazing roll (a personal favorite), you'll be amazed! ;-)
I have been foing to Neon Sushi for well over 10 years. I have never, ever had a bad meal there, in fact their Hibatchi is outstanding!
I frequently order food here to go and have sat in the restaurant multiple times always have had a good meal and great service over many years
This place is right down the road from my home. Thursday nights are 50% off sushi rolls. The sushi rolls are always delicious. They have a lot of spicy rolls. Their miso soup is tasty. I keep coming back and will as long as I live in the area.
Honestly fantastic value for the money, and the food is terrific. My biggest tip is order from their website versus on GrubHub you will save a lot of money doing it directly through them. Love this place!
Honestly, don't let their adverse outdoor decorations deceive you, these guys can make superb sushi. Their sushi is extremely flavorful and well put together. I highly recommend their Neon role that has the perfect mix of sweet and spice with a great texture and is very fulfilling and filling. The best sushi that I have had between Saratoga, Clifton Park and Schenectady and is definitely worth the trip to come and buy in Glenville.
My wife and I often eat lunch here before doing our grocery shopping. Very convenient for us, and a welcome addition to Glenville, which hasn't had a lot in the way of decent restaurants until recently. It's nice to not have to drive to Clifton Park for sushi. We haven't been there for dinner, but the lunch menu is reasonably priced and extensive. For lunch, the restaurant is usually nearly empty, so its easy to get a table. The quality of the food they put out is very good, easily rivaling sushi I've had at more expensive establishments in trendier neighborhoods.
The drinks are strong, the food and desserts are good and the service is always respectable and timely. Great restaurant that needs more exposure.
We had a few different rolls. The Godzilla is my favorite but the tuna, salmon, and cucumber rolls were all really good. We also got the new to the menu chicken wings, they had a really good seasoning flavor by themselves, it was just a hint of something delicious, but the thick teriyaki sauce we dipped them in was great. The gyoza also got the spot
Nice quiet atmosphere food takes a bit longer one server but good service
We stopped in on a random Tuesday evening after having never been and everything was delicious. Our food was hot, perfectly crispy, and not overly greasy plus the flavors were very good! The prices are extremely reasonable for the amount of food and the service was great. They were quick and very kind, 10/10 recommend.
Love the signature rolls. We order a couple times a month. I just wish all the signature rolls had descriptions. 10+ of them don't have descriptions. It's kind of tough to order something and have no idea what you'll get. Please update the menu so I can try more things.
Celebrated some good things happening last night. We all enjoyed our meals, as usual, and took advantage of their buy a fancy sushi, get a regular sushi free. My daughter got hot tea, and they kept it full all night. She was in heaven. Highly recommend.
Just ordered take out. We were thinking we wanted chinese. But honestly tried all the chinese take out in this area since we live right in Glenville but basically the food from all is just something to fill you up if your hungry. Decided to check this place for fried rice since that is what we wanted. We ordered a shrimp fried rice, a beef fried rice and a shrimp tempura appetizer. WOW!!! The food was delicious. Everything was so fresh and tasty and the shrimps in the shrimp fried rice were the full sized shrimp cooked to perfection...not the small mushy cocktail shrimp. The shrimp tempura appetizer was also delicious. I am so impressed with the food here. And so happy to finally try this place since it is .5 miles from my house. What a great surprise. Excellent food cooked to perfection and not mushy and loaded with soy sauce. Try this place you won't regret it. Prices are also very reasonable. Inside of the place is also very appealing. A nice full bar with a TV and tables to dine in. Place was very clean. Will be going here from now on for our food. Give it a try you won't regret it.
This is my go to sushi spot because they have the perfect balance between quality and price. Some places are cheaper, and the sushi is gross or poorly assembled/presented, and some places are better, but it costs a fortune to eat there. Neon has good sushi at a fair price. I can usually get a meal and a half (of only various sushi) for about $40 which is really good for that type of food. I've had less experience with their dinner meals (other than sushi) but their lunch boxes have a good variety and good quantity of food for less than the cost of straight sushi. I've been here dozens of times, and have yet to be disappointed.
I agree with others they need to renovate the front and inside tables but I won’t take off a star for that because it has nothing to do with the food. Seriously delicious and high quality sushi. Each roll I got was excellent and I will definitely continue to frequent. Customer service was warm and friendly.
Never would have stopped, had it not been recommended. The restaurant looks in need of a complete makeover. In fact, we decided that if the inside looked as sketchy as the outside, that we were going to walk out. Pleasant surprise when we walked in. It's well-lit, clean, and a complete opposite of the dingy outside. We ordered a bento box, several sushi rolls, some nigori sake. EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING! I don't know if they just don't want customers and they want the outside to look like like they're being foreclosed, but the fish was the freshest I've ate up here. Seriously. The smoked salmon was incredibly good. In fact, I wanted to go back the next day. Thank you guys very much for the exceptional sushi. We well definitely be repeat customers!
If you love sushi, you may love Neon. I learned that I don't. They do offer a variety of Chinese and American alternatives to sushi however, and a *very* comprehensive bar.
The food was good and the service was quick but, we were the only people in there.
OK, tempura, teriyaki and hibachi are best enjoyed immediately and interaction with the chef is an important part of the experience. These folks are takeout in only during the pandemic. Please support them.
Heard good things, so I tried it our. Sushi is pretty good for being this far from the ocean. Service is respectfully attentive. Nothing really makes it stand out, though.
Food was delicious and aesthetically presented. Staff was attentive but perhaps so much so that it felt rushed. Overall an excellent experience.
This place has good food and you really do get a lot for the cost. The box meals are so filling and delicious. I recommend checking this place out
I've been in a few times, it's usually quiet here. We had a good meal fresh food and you can talk with your group.
Very good food at a reasonable price -I'm not a sushi snob though. The menu has plenty of variety and non sushi options too. Very casual atmosphere and quick service.
Neon sushi has great take out food. I order from there quite often. Parking can be a bit hard because sometimes we have to turn around across the street. The food is pretty good, especially the miso soup. It is fun to see the chefs cooking from your table. When we stay and eat, the service is fast. I highly recommend going.
Too expensive for my blood but the sushi is freaking amazing. I'm a big guy, I'd say I buy from here once every few months and would have to order two sushi specials for myself to feel satisfied which is allot for me to spend on a carry out meal but if your a smaller person this sushi is great. The Chinese food section is not worth the price but the sushi is.
We used to love it here, but lately the service has been terrible. Waited over an hour in the restaurant for an online order with four other people that were in the same situation. Two of the rolls were wrong even though they were printed correctly on our receipt. Hopefully, they will figure things out soon.
Really really good sushi, excellent hibachi- you can't watch them cook it, but it tastes amazing. Chinese is okay but nothing special, soups are delicious. Not busy at all inside, they mostly do takeout.
-has gluten free soy sauce -the spicy rolls are blended -the veggie roll has lettuce in it (weird)
Smaller proportions than expected. Ordered over the phone ahead of time, putting in an order of crab rangoon, a shrimp tempura roll, and the fried seafood roll. Coming to a little over $26, a very acceptable price. Picking up was fast and easy and the lady staffing the receptionist desk was also very friendly, the bag was radiating warmth so I knew the to-go was fresh. Back home opening everything up I was surprised by how much smaller than expected the sizes of everything were, only a handful of crab rangoon and both sushi rolls fit in a container that I would normally just see one set inside. Now the shrimp tempura I could see being that size, but the fried seafood was pretty pricy for just a 6 piece. So the taste must have been worth it then? Well, almost. The crab rangoon was tasty but there was way too much fried wrap, and not nearly enough stuffing. The shrimp tempura was perfectly fine, but nothing to write home about. And the fried seafood roll, the one I was most excited about, had a very strong fishy flavor to it. Not in a "oh this has gone bad" way, but in a "I have the ocean in my mouth" way. I think it might have been the fish roe that was sprinkled on top of the roll, which was very strong, salty, and had a shocking fish flavor to it. Had to counter the roe by dipping in the accompanying soy sauce. So while I was not throughly impressed with my meal, it was satisfying and filled me up nicely.
I remember when this place opened up about a decade ago. I never tried them until this past week. Mainly because the name Neon Sushi makes it seem like it would be radioactive. To the contrary, food was good and tasty. Interior was much better than the exterior indicated. Place was quiet, not too exciting atmosphere, but maybe that could be a good thing.
Not the greatest.
Just so so. Wasn't impressed.
Service was great but my saki tasted watered down. Food tasted not so fresh. Wasabi looked old.
This place was great before covid. Now they skip.on everything to make an extra dime. Weak drinks. Food is severally lacking compared to three years ago. Sad that they might close there doors do to there new management. Staff is great!
Went for the first time and got take out. Tuna sushi had a fishy taste. Tempura was not drained of oil prior to placing in container so it was soggy and they either forgot the dipping sauce or do not serve it. California roll was good, edamame was good. Miso soup and ginger salad dressing were good. Might give it a second try dining in.
I don't know if it was just an off night but the food was not good. The steak was ordered medium but was very rare. The egg roll was just mush. The wontons had an odd flavor, almost like freezer burn. Service was good. I've had the sushi before and no complaints there.
I would not recommend going here for dinner at all for anything. The shrimp was very fishy, probably the worst Ive ever had. Everything is very expensive and portions were small. The fried ice cream was very bad. I don't think it was cooked enough, just a warm mushy shell instead of crisp. Lunch time when prices are literally 1/3 the price for sushi rolls might be a better bet.
The food tasted sterile, flavors did not blend or stand out. Vegetables and fried items were very crispy. Service was fast though not welcoming. Price was fine, I'd pay more for better and know where to do so.
Wasn't crazy about their California rolls. I enjoy my sushi with brown rice and it was very wet ,and was falling apart.
Good food. Hibachi meals (prepared in the kitchen, no hibachi tables) are good. Service is adequate. I don't eat sushi, but my family members give it high ratings Also offer a limited Chinese menu and teriyaki meals. Good atmosphere - low lighting with colorful neon lighting in the bar area. We never have trouble getting a seat; it seems like most of the business is takeout. Update: The outside of the building and the grounds are not kept up, and are getting rundown. We visited today and the garbage smell was overwhelming. The dumpster is not covered. We likely will not return soon.
The sushi is decent to good and scratches the itch. However, the workers are not personable at all; the few times we've eaten there, they were barely welcoming and seemed like they'd rather be anywhere else than there. The atmosphere has ever-so-slightly improved since they removed the tacky picnic tablecloths, but overall, it's still a very undesigned and non-cozy place to eat. I hope they reexamine and refresh their brand; it would be really nice to come back in the future and provide a new and more positive review being that they're the nearest sushi place in Glenville.
I've been there several times, and have always loved it. But, today I ordered a Bento Box for lunch and ate just about everything except for the rice (while doing paperwork in the office, hence the distraction), and I decided I was going to mix the rice with the sauce when I noticed hair in my rice. Not just one strand, but several. In the rice, the wasabi for my sushi, and even in the salad. I try very hard to be delusional and tell myself I didn't actually eat any of the hair, but let's be realistic....
Sushi was about the same quality as grocery stores nearby. My tuna was warm. Would not go back.
Language (barrier) made for lackluster customer service. Food was adequate, but overpriced. Cannot recommend.
I stopped in for a semi-empty early weekday [sushi] lunch in what appears to be the shell of a former Friendly's restaurant. The new owners apparently haven't changed much - the walls are still pretty bland. The only decor to remind the patrons that there is supposed to be Japanese cooking in the building appears to be cell-phone photos blown up to 8x10s and plastered on the otherwise unadorned walls. And if the 70s-style beaded curtain in the back hall makes you think "exotic," you'll love this place. But I'm here for the food. The host led me to the 8-seat sushi bar facing a thankfully muted television (photo), and I sat down began to skim through the menu. While there was not a very wide selection, I still was able to choose a couple of maki and a handful of nigiri. The server and sushi chef were mostly attentive and courteous and I was presented with a forgettable salad and a lukewarm soup while I waited for my main. The service wasn't too bad, but I did have to flag down both the server and the chef at least once for my main. The two-plate plating could have been a lot better. Both were extremely simple, without any adornment at all - this made the smudges that the chef should have wiped off appear that more significant. The large band of white coloring in the bland, not-spicy salmon maki made me immediately aware that this roll was at least one quarter "filler" (photo), which did not enhance the minced salmon paste texture. The nigiri was more of a mixed presentation. I found the rice was seasoned well, and the tamago was very fresh. But the hamachi seemed to be separating apart, and the second of the pair of ikura had a pink syrup oozing through the bottom rice, sticking the base of the gunkanmaki to the plate. My guess is that when I wasn't looking, the chef tried to save time by pouring the remainder of the jar of salmon roe and remaining "sauce" onto that piece. It was as unappetizing as you can imagine. On item did overly concern me: all of the sushi tasted warmer than I believe it should have (except, of course, for the unagi). I watched the chef pull each item from the cooler as he prepared my selections. I'm pretty sure the cooler itself was a newer Hozhisaki, the chilling tubes frosted and I even reached over and touched the glass with the back of my hand - it seemed cool enough. But temperature definitely changed the texture of the hotate and especially the ikura. Luckily, it wasn't so warm that I was affected later. I think they have a lot to work on, so it will be a while before I return. 2019 04 22.
Some of the worst sushi I have ever had. Way too much crunchy tempura crumb on the sushi and it made it very dry. I didn't think the fish tasted very fresh and overall was just not impressed with the sushi at all.
Very bright inside , service was prompt and the food came out so fast .. couldn't finish one thing before more plates were coming out .. scallops were under cooked and flavorless .. not impressed ! Otherwise The saratoga roll was very good ..
When I arrived to pick up my food, they gave me no indication that they were running behind. You would think after waiting an additional 50 minutes past your pickup time, the food would actually be good but that’s not the case. Terrible service, mediocre food.
Terrible food, terrible service! The crew was rude when we complained about the food being moldy. Food is not made properly here. Don’t eat here, this is not Japanese food.
My husband and I ordered a California roll, a safe bet to test how good their sushi was. It was not good. The proportions were off, with too much cucumber overpowering the other flavors and the rice seemed stale. We decided to steer clear of the sushi and order a bento box with teriyaki chicken. The meal came with miso soup which was bland and tasted like it was made without any dashi. The chicken was pounded flat (tonkatsu style) and the teriyaki sauce was so sweet it was unappetizing. All I ended up eating was the side of rice and left feeling like I had been cheated out of my money.
Terrible experience. Fish wasn't fresh ! We stopped by our way to New York and our daughter had vomiting and diarrhea 1 hour later. I had a pain in stomach and vomiting.
Everything tasted the same -the decor was like a pizzeria vinyl red & white checkered tablecloths, waitress was super attentive though.
They forgot part of my order. When I called to let them know, instead of allowing me to go back there to give me what I paid for, they offered me dessert. I do not want dessert, I want the food that I paid for, which was way more expensive than any dessert they have. Ridiculous.
We started with an order of Crab Rangoon. They were soggy and flavorless. I found no evidence of any crab flavor at all. I had the Rock Shrimp. VERY greasy and soggy, and the shrimp were like rubber. Very disappointing. I tried to taste the rice, but could not get it apart. When I stuck in the chop sticks, the entire bowl came out. No thanks. Spouse had the sashimi deluxe. He said it wasn't very "fresh" and the knife work wasn't great. Also, he prefers wild caught to farm raised salmon, which is what he was served. He said it had an oily, fishy aftertaste, which he never experienced before, and he's eaten a lot of sashimi. He started feeling sick a few hours later and spent the night in the bathroom. We will not be returning. There are 2 other places (Scotia and downtown Schenectady) with MUCH better offerings for the same or lower prices. And waitstaff stacking up your dishes on the table before removing them? Very underwhelming.
Neon Sushi is a great disappointment. I'd been looking for an alternative to my wife's preferred sushi/hibachi locale, and this is more or less close by. The menu was attractive, and on Thursday nights there is a sushi special. So we went there. My wife asked for the special -- one super-duper roll gets a second ordinary roll. She was interested in the super-duper roll with crab but only if it was real crab. She asked, and was told her first choice was not made with real crab, but that the roll with king crab was; she asked for that. I ordered chicken tempura. The king crab roll had no king crab -- just the fake stuff. This, after repeated assurances to the contrary. The chicken tempura -- wasn't. The ¼"x¼"x5" chicken pieces were coated with a tasteless mess of panko crumbs almost a half-inch thick. The accompanying tempura vegetables were soggy. I asked to substitute an egg roll for the California roll that usually comes with this -- and finally got it on the second attempt. I am glad I pushed for it; it was the only really edible item. Neon Sushi is, by local standards, not an inexpensive restaurant. One expects better quality ingredients properly prepared and cooked. One expects servers -- and the front-end manager -- to know what's in the various dishes, and to not dissemble. That was not our experience.
I used to go back in the summer for the lunch specials and it was great. My last yo orders they charged me full price. Never gave me the lunch specials and left out a sushi roll. The tuna avocado looked terrible. Highly disappointed and I left an extra nice tip and my order was totally messed up.
Food was pretty ok. They over charged me and when I pointed out the 9 dollar over charge they took 6 dollars off and acted like this was standard practice. Will not return.
I got food from here yesterday and got food poisoning along with the person I had food with. It may have been a one off incident but seeing as it was our first time trying from here we won’t be having it again. We are regular sushi eaters and have never had this happen before 🥲
My wife and I ate at Neon Sushi. I ordered chicken with broccoli and my wife ordered sweet n sour chicken which was fine. Mine on the other hand the chicken was like eating a mouth full of fat. My wife said it’s not that bad, until she tried a piece and said that s bad. So I asked about it and they soak the chicken in flour, water and corn starch and they said people like that texture. Which I find hard to believe. It s probably to preserve the chicken longer is my guess. Plus I asked for fried rice as opposed to white rice and they up charge $2 for fried rice. Which had onion, peas, soy sauce. . Which is not a traditional fried rice. Server never came back to check on us. So I asked to speak to a manager. He said, sorry but most people like it, like that. I told him I am going to take it home and feed it to my dog!
