HopCat - Grand Rapids

Ordered from door dash, so service and atmosphere are default 5 star. Our order arrived in a paper bag, sealed shut with stickers - which was awesome! I wish napkins were included, but I understand why they are not. We got cowboy burgers, with loaded fry upgrades and cheese curds. The food was amazing! Full of flavour, and very well presented in environment friendly containers. I wish I lived closer so I could come here again.

Amazing food with a great view of downtown! I absolutely loved the vibe of this place. The historic aspect is well maintained and the decorations added to it - loved the stained glass! It’s a friendly tavern type atmosphere with gracious staff! When I was there, the menus were completely electronic and I loved that! Very convenient :) The cheese curds were a great starter, still warm and squeaky when served- yay! The local cider I chose was amazing as well, plus I love that the entire drink menu was locally sourced! I had the fish and chips as my main meal and I was not disappointed! The batter texture and flavor was perfect - a classic done right!

My partner read about this restaurant on Reddit and just had to try it and their famous fries. We arrived at a good time because most of the people in the restaurant were finishing their dinners and heading to an event downtown. We were seated immediately and Nate, our waiter, was very nice and very knowledgeable. My partner and her son decided almost immediately what they were eating, while I took a bit and looked at the whole menu. The food came out fairly quickly given how busy they were. My partner got a cup of tomato basil soup and an order of loaded fries. Her son got a kid's cheeseburger and fries which also had apple slices and a cookie. I finally decided on BYOB and had 2 patties with dill havarti cheese, bacon, lettuce, onions, ketchup and mayo on a standard bun. Everyone agreed the food was great. I had my doubts because their fries are battered(which I hate) but whatever they season them with won me over. I had told Nate that I probably wouldn't eat the fries and I called him over and let him know that I absolutely loved them.

Had a wonderful time. Alison W was a very attentive and super friendly, along with giving great drink recommendations.

Used resy for brunch, requested a booth and our table was available right on time. Had a great server. The cinnamon sugar biscuit bites were amazingggg. The truffle, bacon & egg bagel was so delish. Guys loved the chicken & waffles (ordered with side of eggs), which was a huge portion. Friend didn’t love the good gravy hash (ordered with extra eggs), saying it was just okay. Mimosa pitcher with pineapple was a good choice for the table. Husband said build-your-own Bloody Mary bar was fine but was hoping for some more meat & fresh cheese skewer options (they put out some of the items from the appetizer list (space curds & pretzel bites), which were all cold and sitting out for a long time).

Wife and I visited here yesterday on Valentine’s Day, we sat at the bar and received great service and helpful recommendations on food and drink. I went with the “hangover helper burger” and I think it might just be the best burger I’ve ever had in my life. Couldn’t put it down, even when I was so stuffed from all the cosmic fries.

Nate was our server and was very nice when we had a problem with our food. He got the manager, Jake, right away. He really helped solve our problem and wanted to make it right. I really appreciated especially since we really didn't want to be a bother. Holiday drinks were delicious!

stopped in to watch the lions game recently, Allison W was my server and hands down the best server I’ve ever had, 10 out of 10 would go back and hopefully have her again. I had the banging shrimp and it was definitely banging! Will be ordering again on my next trip

Emerson was amazing! We went out to eat after a long week. I’ve been working doubles, so I was very excited to have a little bit of free time. I decided to go to HopCat because someone had given me a gift card. They were very friendly and our server, Emerson was just incredible. I would Highly recommend requesting her for great service. The food came out quickly and everything was just wonderful!

Let me start off with Allison W was our waitress and she was the best we have ever had! We had a fairly large order and she never wrote down one thing and remembered every detail of our order! We hardly finished our drinks and our refills were already there! Allison is the most friendly, outgoing, funny waitress we have ever had! Thanks to her I will now wanna hop back into hopcat every single day!

Great downtown place for lunch. Love the atmosphere and friendly service. Food was really good and unique! Kitchen was a little slow that day but in their defense, it got pretty busy with a couple of large groups walking in. We’ll be back!

We had the best experience tonight thanks to our server, Allison W. She was incredibly sweet, had such a fun, upbeat personality, and kept us laughing the whole time. On top of that, she was quick to get anything we needed — drinks, refills, extra napkins, you name it. It’s rare to find a server who’s both genuinely kind and perfectly attentive, but Allison nailed it. She made our night so enjoyable, and we’ll definitely be asking for her again next time!

Love hopcat, been coming here for awhile and finally decided to leave a review. Awesome food and a great vibe. Ali W was an absolute amazing server and I’ll definitely be back again.

Lively spot with great beer and even better comfort food. The “Crack Fries” really are addictive — crispy, seasoned just right — and the burger came out juicy with a perfect char. Crowd’s fun, music’s up, and the place has that easy Michigan friendliness that makes you want to stay longer than planned.

Stacey was AMAZING!!!!! I literally feel you cannot find this great of service very much anymore!!!! She was absolutely on TOP OF IT! With drinks refills food ect but she wasn’t doing it at the table… she observed from afar and someone would not even notice but I’m picky and I noticed ! She deserves to be recognized! If you go to this location ask to sit in her service area, you won’t be disappointed! Stacey deserves a raise!!!

We love Hopcat but today was especially wonderful. Ellie took great care of us and our experience just made our hearts so full. It was the perfect service to go along with an amazing meal! ❤️

Came in mostly for the famous “Crack Fries,” and yeah… they live up to the name. My burger was solid too — nothing crazy, just well-done comfort food. The place has that busy craft-beer-bar vibe, but the staff somehow keeps everything moving without stress.

Lively place with a massive beer list and comfort food that somehow feels elevated. The burger came out juicy with that perfect char, and the famous Crack Fries really are addictive. Loud, energetic, and fun — exactly the kind of spot you end up staying at longer than planned.

Allison W. Was phenomenal. She was polite, understanding and super friendly with our kids. Would love to have her as our waitress again in future visits. The food was also fantastic and being in the OG building was a really cool atmosphere.

My bartenders Amanda and Kacie were so fun and great with suggestions. Our food and drinks were delicious and came out in a timely manner. We will be back when we’re in town.

I haven't been to HopCat in a long time, but it was a great experience today. I got a wrap with some Cosmic Fries, which are so good with the cheese sauce. My friend got an Impossible Burger. Our server, Lilly, was the best! Not only was she warm and friendly, but she really went the extra mile. I really wanted a Cherry Pepsi to drink, but since they didn't have it, she offered to pour some grenadine in, which I really appreciated. If you're visiting Grand Rapids, you've got to check out HopCat on Ionia for the great food, service, and of course, the great selection of craft beer.

Allison W was great! Super personable super sweet and goofy! Had a great experience me and my husband adored her!! And the food was great too! Def will be coming back!

Update: Chloe the AGM reached out directly via phone and left me a very genuine and sincere voicemail once I reached out via email. It was within hours of me sending the email that I received the call. They are remedying the situation and going above and beyond to make me want to continue my business with them. Again Chloe has been absolutely amazing!! Will update food review once I am able to get back down there which will be soon!! Love this bar and love the vibes. However I ordered from Uber Eats and there were bits of plastic in my Dirty Martini Burger as well as me ordering Killer Cosmic Fries and I received Mac n Cheese instead. I’m hoping that there can be some form of remedy.

Was busy before the concert. Many people waiting for table saying a 45 min wait. We waited maybe 15 min. Atmosphere was warm and friendly. Food and drinks came quickly.. They were on the ball getting us in and out ontime. Fries were great! Needed 2 hands for the burger. It tasted as good as it looked..maybe could have used more sauce. I would recommend this place...uodate 9.4.25...another concert.. was told 45m for table..only took 15m... food took a little bit to come..but tasted good... they out of many beers.

I got the Madtown grilled cheese and it was slapping. The soup and fries are just incredible. They also played weezer so this place is epic.

Went here for a late lunch with a party of four. Had to sit outside or else it would’ve been an hour wait. The weather was quite windy and cold, but our server was super sweet and attentive. The food took over an hour, but all four dishes tasted amazing. I would definitely come back, just hopefully during a less busy time!

This place is so fun! We sat in a booth that was huge and roomy. Very comfortable. We liked the decor and the layout of the restaurant. There was a lot to admire during our meal. We each had the strawberry basil and jalapeño mango margaritas and enjoyed them. I ordered the OG fries and roasted red pepper soup. Both were tasty. My companion ordered the vegan tacos and said they were good.

An excellent place for pub style food. This time we got the wings and cosmic (crack) fries. I can speak highly of the burgers, fish and chips, and mac n cheese from past experiences. For those that enjoy craft beer there is a large selection of craft beers, ciders, and meads on draft. The service was surprisingly slow for the low level of customers sitting inside. Our lunch visit was over an hour while similar lunches elsewhere are under an hour. Great if you have time for a leisurely meal not for a quick in and out bite.

Stopped by for dinner on a Thursday before the Jeff Dunham show. Convenient location right next to Van Andel and local parking garage. They were busy, but our party of 5 still got seated quickly. The server was friendly and gave us his favorites as recommendations, which we appreciated. The appetizers were delicious- the Pretzel Nuggz were the average pretzel balls and cheese one would get at any good restaurant. The winners were good. The BBQ Brisket Fries were good, The fries themselves were very good- perfectly seasoned and crisp. But there wasn't much brisket on it to justify double the cost. I would suggest just going with the loaded fries because of this. My husband had the Bloody Mary and liked it is enough to get a second. Two of our party had the Tropical Blue Rum drink and it be was good. Not overly sweet or heavy on the coconut. Everyone loved their entree. 3 of our party got different burgers and they were flavorful, not greasy, big & filling. I think the best one was the Cowboy Dbl Smash Burger, but my blu cheese loving husband loved Stella Blue Dbl Smash Burger. Another had Killer Mac 'N Cheese- creamy with just the right amount of cheese. I had the Risk It For The Brisket and it was absolutely amazing. I highly recommend it- one of the best pasta dishes I have ever had.

An unusual place to visit for a few drinks, or excellent food/drinks combination. Servers are ready to answer questions about menu items and help you select the best drink to accompany your choice. The place can be pricey. Certain hours the atmosphere can get congested with too many people.

Average food, above average prices I can’t say this place is amazing. The burger and chicken sandwich’s were average. They weren’t amazing. They weren’t super flavorful. Not bad food. Just meh. Their fries and wings were my favorite part. I recommend the honey sriracha for the wings. Their fries were perfect and its seasoning was good. Service was fine. Overall: 6.8/10

Caesar salad and soup? Amazing. Everything else? Overly salty, au jus tasted like a gravy packet. Steak frites were overcooked and the herb butter was cloyingly strong to the point of tasting fake. We didn't use our takeaway containers.

I was excited to try this place for so long and was sadly disappointed 😞 we tried the parm fries and Cosmic Fries..so disappointed. They weren't good at all..didn't think you could mess up fries. They were overcooked and no flavor for the the parm on it. And the garlic aoili sauce was Mayo. Gross. But the drinks were ok..The service was ok but overall it's an eh for me.

The food was very strongly flavored, but not in a good way. Might have just been overly salty bar food, I'm not sure. The service was fine and the atmosphere was interesting, but the food I could barely stomach. It wasn't undercooked or anything dangerous, just... An overwhelming one note flavor for both the salad and the Mac and cheese.

Let me just start by saying hop cat is magnificent! The food here is amazing but the 3 times I have gotten it on DoorDash I am always missing something. It is frustrating because it is repetitive whoever checks order really needs to do a better job this is ridiculous I spent 10$ on drinks I would like my drinks last time I didn’t get my fries and the time before that none of the stuff I wanted off my burger was off. Ando didn’t get my cutlery

Food is basic. The wrap didn't taste that well. The French fries cold. This is a place that you go after drinking. It's drunk food not sober. Myself or fried didn't finish our food. This picture sums it up. It tastes the way it looks

The food is okay, but the bar staff are aggressive and rude. If you’re new to the place or only come once a month and it’s full of regulars good luck on even getting great service. You’re ignored yet still expected to tip everyone for being rude to you. Suggestions would be go to Tupelo Honey or Woods Lounge.
