I order take out from here yesterday and enjoyed everything I got. I had two curries and garlic Nan. Everything was good! I would definitely order from here again.

Such a fantastic place, I can’t recommend it enough if you’re in grass valley looking for Indian food. The samosas are on point and the staff is always awesome.

Oh, the buffet! But it’s not about the quantity, it’s about the quality. The dishes are uniformly delicious, with plenty of vegetarian options, and the fresh naan puts it over the top. One if our favorite restaurants in an area with plenty of options. Friendly, fast service, too.

First time here, will definitely return. Ordered vegetarian sampler for a light lunch. Very good tasting with chutneys and big portion. Delightful staff, very professional and efficient. Nice atmosphere, love the Indian decor. Easy location, reasonable prices. The staff were exceptional!

The food here is excellent. The owner is friendly. The waiters are courteous. UPDATE: The last time my husband and I went to this restaurant, the waiter remembered our order. For a second, it felt a little embarrassing. But then, we burst out laughing. It was funny because we were very tired, and my husband had a slow thinking moment. This was when the waiter finished his sentence. So now, when we go to India Oven, if we get the same waiter, we can say we want "the usual." That's it.

We always have a great experience here! Suk is a great server, always friendly and on top of his game. Food is amazing. It's really nice to have quality Indian food in this small town.

A hidden gem, literally hidden between JC Penney and Raleys. We ordered take out and had a beer while we waited, the staff was super friendly, beer on tap options were great, and the food was delicious and stayed warm until we hot back to our hotel. Will return on future visits to the area!

Although I didn't think this place was one of the best I've had it was very good in my opinion. My group however thought it was some of the best Indian they've ever had. The chicken Tikka is excellent and they were very accommodating for our massive party and order. I would 100% recommend this place if you're up at the Yuba River.

I don’t know what took us so long to try this place, but wish we had sooner!! I was *really* worried that because of our location (small, mountain town without a lot of diversity) that it would not live up to my standards. Indian food is my favorite - when I’m sad: Indian Food; Stressed: Indian Food; Celebrating: Indian Food. It’s my all around favorite. All that said, INDIAN OVEN IS AWESOME!! The service is great and the food is greater! (Sorry for the poor grammar - lol). Run, don’t walk to great Indian Food!!

What a gem! Within 1 min of sitting down, our waiter brought us ice water, and answered multiple questions. The food was served quickly, was hot, and the portions were generous! I chose mild seasoning (vs med or spicy) and it was plenty hot. Their mango chutney, a side, complimented my shrimp dish nicely. We'll be back!!

Benefit of good Indian food for a long time and this place was great I really enjoyed their chicken tikka Marsala with medium Spice it was perfect and had tons of flavor but wasn't too hot but definitely gave you a little of a sweat and their garlic naan was excellent and the rice portion was massive

A hidden gem. This place deserves more than a 4.2! We stopped by on our way home to San Francisco. The Chicken Tikka Masala was on par with our favorite restaurant in the city. Spice level was perfect and the garlic naan was fresh and delicious. Fast and friendly service too. Highly recommend!

The moment I stepped into Indian Oven, I knew we were in for an authentic culinary experience. The aromas wafting from the kitchen immediately created a welcoming and inviting atmosphere. Every dish we tried was absolutely delicious. The flavors were rich, complex, and perfectly balanced - clearly the work of a skilled chef who understands the nuances of Indian cuisine. From the tender tandoori chicken to the creamy butter chicken, each bite was a revelation. What really elevated our meal was the impeccable service, particularly from our waiter, Harry. He was attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable about the menu, and made excellent recommendations tailored to our tastes. Harry's friendly demeanor and efficiency ensured we felt well taken care of throughout our visit. Indian Oven has definitely earned a spot on my list of favorite restaurants. Whether you're an Indian food aficionado or new to the cuisine, this place is a must-visit for an authentic and memorable dining experience. We are lucky to have such a wonderful Indian restaurant here in our little town.

Dined here at 6 pm on a Saturday night. There were several other tables occupied, but the place was not packed. We ordered the Chicken Biryani, Lamb Vindaloo, Chef’s Bread Basket, and Paneer Pakora as a starter. The portions are VERY generous and the dishes are excellent. This is our second time eating here, and the quality is very consistent. The waiter is attentive and congenial, and the music and art are very pleasant and atmospheric. Not sure why we’ve never seen this place packed, but I consider it a hidden gem of Grass Valley.

Update: We went back and the food was much better and more flavorful. My son even agreed! He's was so happy with the lamb vindaloo I brought home for him! I hope the restaurant stays consistently good and that eventually they bring back the original tamarind sauce. The current one is too mild and is like Chinese sweet & sour sauce. Before: I used to love the food here, but it's declined since the change of ownership/management. My son called the Chana "chickpeas with tomato sauce" because he thought they were that flavorless. He said the same about the lamb vindaloo. I tried it and agreed. This boy is NOT picky and loves to eat. And they don't serve the real tamarind sauce anymore! And my daughter was not impressed by the "butter chicken" However, the tandoori mixed grill is FANTASTIC!

One of the few places in town that has been consistently good over the past 20 years. Absolutely delicious, really miss the buffet, definitely would frequent more if they had a lunch menu. Always feels like a warm tummy hug when you leave!

The food tastes super authentic—like a flavor trip to India without leaving town. Everything we tried was delicious. The staff was really kind and welcoming, and the service was smooth and friendly. One cool surprise? The beautiful artwork on the walls was painted by the owner’s wife! It adds such a personal and cozy touch to the place. Definitely coming back. If you love Indian food, this spot is a must!

I really enjoy the food. Very clean, very consistent. Very nice portions. One of the things I like a lot is the food is full of flavor. And when I ask for mild they give me mild. I don't like hot spice, because that's all I can taste. Other restaurants I ask for mild and it still burns and I can only taste the heat. I'm vegetarian and have no problem getting what I need there. I do think an investment in upgrading the amenities would be worth.

Update: I recently went back to India oven as a very loyal and satisfied customer in the past- and I am very disappointed. It seems like they are under new ownership because there are all new people and the food quality has decreased tremendously. I got the same things I always get and I did not even want to finish it or take it home. Truly a waste of money. The rice was dry and not the same either. I’m very sad I’m not sure what happened but I won’t be returning. The best rice in the entire world, besides India of course. Every dish is So flavorful. My favorite is the navrattan korma and tiki masala. I’m not joking about the rice though. There is just something really special about it

I've been going here for years and highly recommend the buffet. Since ordering out we have had our order messed up twice and no sort of compensation. One item was missing and replaced by a completely different item. The second time and entire entrée missing. When we called to let them know I received no answer and by the time my husband drove back they were closed. We love supporting this restaurant but are tired of wrong and missing items. If we return back for take out we are thoroughly checking everything before we leave.

A mix of northern and southern Indian cuisine. Website says 40 item lunch buffet, i counted 12. Marsala and curry may be mislabeled they tasted the same. Comfortable environment. Home cooking for those who grew up on this.

The food is pretty good! We got take out and were pleasantly surprised by how homemade and fresh everything tasted. Not overly oily or creamy and no upset stomach the next day. I think the food could use a little more spice but that’s a personal preference.

I am a big fan of ethnic food and I appreciate this little place a great deal. I usually go for the weekend buffet because I like the variety. They keep the the dining room clean and the buffet well stocked. I have had meals here off the menu too and was very impressed with everything I have ordered. I especially like the samosas and the butter chicken. The staff isn't always very friendly, perhaps it's cultural, but that is my only turn off about this place.

J

We had a great dinner last night. The service was exceptional. We also ordered takeout a few weeks ago. In both cases, the food was great! I highly recommend CALLING IN YOUR ORDER instead of ordering online. In my experience, ordering online leads to waiting a very long time. Dine in: 5 stars. Tale out: 3 stars

We went just before they closed, but they were very sweet and let us stay as long as they could have us there past closing time. I did not expect to see an Indian restaurant, but the food was above average. The ambiance was good and the restaurant was clean.

They are pretty good. I would skip the samosas because they are small and pricey. In the future I will skip the tandoori chicken because it didn't have any flavor. They don't marinate it for 48 hours like they advertise, you can tell from the taste. However it was cooked properly. Besides those 2 dishes, everything else they make is great. The butter chicken, saag panner and saag chicken are great. Overall it's a good restaurant.

Comfortable booths, nice lighting, solid hosts. Food is reliable. Scrumptious on a good night. Take-out option doesn't do the restaurant justice: all dishes are considerably more flavorful and generally better quality when served piping hot at the table. If you love garlic naan, you're in for a treat. Bring back the Deschutes, please!

The service was excellent and loving, but the food and the pricing aren't that great... We had aloo tiki for starter, which was our favorite dish, and a tasty one The aloo gobi and the bindi masala, two dishes we like a lot in many other indian restaurants, were honestly not that good. And the roti wasn't to our liking too. Nothing was bad, it just wasnt very tasty. And with the price tag (about 12$ on the mains, which is not horrible, especially with rice included, but we are used to find for much cheaper, in places where it's more tasty for us), we aren't too keen on coming back A few good words about the service though, and a note to vegans- The waiter was new and confused, and gave us some highly unlikely answers as to what is vegan (e.g. that everything is cooked with ghee). But he checked, and checked again, and eventually he got a hold of the owner, who later on came himself, twice, to apologise and explain more as his English is far better. Both Hari (the owner) and our waiter were so nice, that it was more important than the confusion and wrong info we got at the beginning. And also, when our friend wanted some extra rice to take home, she got it for free If you are vegan, here's the deal- Nothing is with ghee There is milk in the naan's dough Roti & paranta - vegan As for starters and mains, there is no ghee, but there is butter in some dishes but they can be done without the butter upon request

I like to pretend I am returning to India when I visit our only local Indian cuisine restaurant. I do miss the buffet and Tali options horribly. But whatever we order is delicious. At least I can still order chai off the menu and really enjoy the service, which is exceptional.

This place seemed great based on all the previous reviews but was a bit of a disappointment. Maybe we're spoiled on the east coast philadelphia area with Indian food but the lunch buffet was very mild on flavor, mediocre options, and seemed watered down. I think maybe the expectations were too high based on the reviews we read but the best thing we tasted was the garlic naan bread. We chose this place over another local option down the road and left feeling like we made a wrong decision. There's only so many meals you can eat while on vacation and this one was definitely wasted.

Basmati rice was good, but Rogan Josh was disappointing. Almost bland and not a bit of spice heat. I didn’t see any choice online when I was ordering. Service is good. Please bring some authentic spice back.

The food is good, no problem. But this was the 4th time in a row we were shorted/there was something we didn't order with our pick-up order. Having to take every item out of the bags before leaving to inspect for actual dishes ordered and number of dishes shouldn't be the norm. Won't do it again.

D
David

About half the buffet choices and half the flavor of an average Indian buffet. For a slightly highly price tag I hoped it at least would be average. If .you are really craving Indian then this place MIGHT hit the spot for you. It's just very similar to the taste of an istant Indian food packet.

I really wanted to rate this place higher but felt we were lied to and deceived with what we received. I called in a pickup order and everything seemed fine. I got to restaurant and they read back my order and it was what had called in. However, I got back home and enjoyed the chicken samosa but when I got to the lamb biryani, which I asked for mild, I got chicken with some rice and unedible spicy. I took it back and while waiting, here the waiter tell a guest about a lamb dish. When he gets back to me and I point out the error, suddenly I hear they were out of lamb earlier and gave me chicken instead. Without asking or calling before. It was as if they made it super spicy so I wouldn't eat it or to hide the fact it was chicken and not lamb. I was told I'd get a refund but it never happened. Do not give this shady restaurant your business.

I have never in my life been to a bad Indian restaurant until now. Do yourself a favor and spend the money on gas going to the Royal Indian Cusine in auburn cause they got a buffet and a menu, their food is delicious! Best aloo gobi I’ve had. At this India whatever place (go at night lol) their aloo gobi was SO OILY!!! It was disgusting not to even mention the bathroom and ew the salt shaker 😭 SIX DOLLARS FOR 2 SAMOSAS WHEN ROYAL INDIAN CUSINE HAS A WHOLE BUFFET OF THEM AND THEY TASTE REAL. I wish Gordon Ramsey found India oven for kitchen nightmares

Walked in yesterday for lunch and will not be back. There was not a clean table in the whole place and it was empty with the exception of one other party looking for a clean spot! Almost every table had dirty dishes or had not been wiped down. The server told us we can sit at the table in the corner, since that was the only semi clean table, but it was soon occupied by the other patrons. We walked out throughly disgusted.

B

Not vegetarian friendly! Big hunk of chicken in my vegetarian order where I ordered 6 items ALL vegetarian. So now I can’t eat any of it because I know they don’t care. Won’t be ordering again!

While the food is good, for the first 20 minutes of us being in the restaurant, they vacuumed…that should have been done before they opened. The dust from the vacuum floated around the restaurant as he did it. The service was good and so was the food. But the establishment was really dirty. Not someplace I will eat at again.

Used to be great, then the slashes their portions to half size without changing the price to match. Now you pay an arm and a leg for 1 meal when you could by 3 anywhere else. They also refuse to admit they cut the portion size when directly confronted but they used to give you 32oz of curry now only 16oz

Do yourself a favor and skip this place. I’ve never had bad Indian food until today. There was zero flavor in any of the dishes. The waiter made a rude comment as we were leaving. I’m pretty sure it’s because we barley touched any of the dishes we ordered. He shouldn’t have been rude since we paid good money for food to be tossed.
