Opinions de Kane's Grass Valley
My husband took me here, our waiter's name was Harley. He was very attentive and knowledgeable. The food, wine, service and atmosphere were amazing! Definitely recommend!
Only been for lunch but loved it! Great quality, good sized portions, great service. I especially enjoyed the build- your-own salad option, rare to see that on a menu!
Great tacos, great entertainment and friendly staff. Expensive cocktails though.. my bill came out to be over $200 for just 3 people and all we got to eat were 3 tacos to eat.
Enjoyed the atmosphere on a cold snowy day. The food is inexpensive but delicious. The menu had plenty of nice choices to pick from. The service was good.
Great cocktails, delicious appetizers and fantastic entree's. Service is friendly and attentive. Live music on Saturday nights adds a wonderful vibe!
Very nice restaurant. We went for lunch and ordered hamburgers. They were really good. Found out they ground their own hamburger there! Upscale atmosphere with a normal priced menu. We will go back.
Used to come here often but have avoided past few years because of some poor reviews. My mistake! We had a wonderful meal. Specials were interesting and varied. I had Moroccan chicken and husband had classic Chicken Marsala...both were fantastic!
Sliders were great!!! They were hot and juicy with grilled onions. I like juicy burgers not dried out burgers. These even had a little juice dripping down as you bite into them :) Will definitely order again.
I don't give 5 stars very often, but Kane's earned them on this visit. 5 stars for ambiance. 5 stars for service. 5 stars for food. Four of us dined on the patio. I don't like dining inside - too dark, too crowded, too noisy. Outside, though, I love it. The excellent service began immediately. Seated quickly. Drink orders taken and delivered within minutes. Two of our party chose from the dinner menu and two chose from the sandwich menu. The Bad Boy salad was huge. The Spaghetti Bolognese with added meatballs was perfect. The Lamb Sandwich and Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwiches were delicious and big. We finished off the evening by sharing the Tuxedo Cake with the four of us. All of this, plus drinks, for $105.
Had a great dinner with 4 others. Celebrated a 61st anniversary. Got the shared menu. Lots of Choices and delicious. Ask to sit in Kent’s area. He was amazing
EDIT: This review was made years ago for Kane's Restuarant which closed. My review was "transferred" for this new restuarant which I have not been to. Pretty irresponsible by Someone (Google?) I have heard mixed things about the new business, so I am not happy that it has received my "recommendation". ORIGINAL REVIEW FOR KANE'S RESTUARANT: One of the best restaurants in our area. Nice for drinks and appetizers, and the menu is bound to have something for everyone. A Silicon Valley Joe's type of set up, where you can see the meals being prepared from some tables. Friendly staff, and it is a favorite of my son, who runs a restaurant in the Bay Area...he is not easily impressed, but wants to eat there every time he visits.
Went here with my wife and a couple of friends, Food was great, and specialty drinks on point. Server took care of us even when we moved our party outside to the patio. Good times!
My husband and i had dinner here tonight and had a wonderful meal. Friendly, pleasant, helpful staff, wonderful chef's and hostess. Overall it was an amazing place to dine!
Enrique lounge the atmosphere is great music is soothing. Menu is selective but great place to come and lounge and grab a drink at the full bar and try some awesome delicious foods. Definitely coming back. Lemon pepper chicken get with Alfredo Fettuccine trust me you will love the combo
What a surprise! Great food and cocktails. Even had a secret kids menu (basically anything your kid would eat they would make it). We had ahi tuna wontons fresh and tasted amazing. The lettuce cups with chicken was really good. Hubby had steak and asparagus and I had homemade butternut squash ravioli. The toddler has fettuccine butter noodles and chicken nuggets. The hand crafted old fashioneds a were a winner. Def coming back
What a great restaurant to Grass Valley ! Eclectic menu with a full bar! Classy but causal. Dog friendly in the Enclosed outdoor patio. Brand new establishment!. The blue bread or ahi Tuna with crispy wontons is awesome! They also have happy hour specials which are wallet friendly. They have plenty of live entertainment..check their website for upcoming events. Walk to downtown Grass Valley shops in a VERY safe environment!! Plenty of free parking. Say hi to Enrique...he will make you feel special ! Ps. I got there early to check it out right before they opened
Wow. So blown away by how great this experience was. I’ve been living here for 4 years and so bummed it took me this long to try this place out. Food was great and service was exceptional. The cocktail menu was a pleasant surprise and the espressotini was delightful and the crab & artichoke dip to die for. Thank you Andrew & Ricky! We’ll be back again soon.

We are relatively new to the area and recently tried this place for the first time and we were not disappointed! My son who is only 2 requires a booth and I called ahead to make sure they had one. The host was very nice and said he would save one for us and when we arrived we were promptly greeted and seated. Our waiter was Kent and he was absolutely fanatic and on point, which I find rare these days. He was right in the middle of serving a giant party, but made sure to come over and greet us and let us know he’d be right back to take our drink order. He was very friendly and helped find some things on the menu my son might enjoy, as I thought they had hamburgers (about all my son will eat currently) but I was mistaken. The atmosphere was pleasant and the workers smiled and seemed happy to be there. The food was excellent and though pricey, I don’t think it was overpriced. Foods expensive these days after all! Everything was perfectly cooked and the drinks were delicious too! I would definitely recommend this place and we will certainly be back!
We had a wonderful dinner here with a large group of friends and family. The wait staff was so nice and outgoing. The food was incredible! Everything we ordered was delicious. Next time I'm in Grass Valley, I'm definitely going to be back. Thank you all for such a great dining experience.
Lovely experience! We were treated like family. The environment was comfortable and relaxing. Everything we ate was cooked perfectly. I wanted to get so much more from the menu but I didn't have room! We are going back soon to get more!
Went a couple weeks ago for the first time had a great meal my boyfriend's steak was delicious, wasn't fatty at all. Service was good. We will definitely go back! We wanted to make reservations for Thanksgiving but they were sold out and had 60 people on the waiting list for any cancellations. This should tell you a lot about this place.
What a great new addition to the “New” Grass Valley Downtown experience. The staff is so warm and inviting. The food we had was spot on! We started with seared ahi tuna with fried wonton that was perfect and the best fried calamari we both have ever had. For the entree we had the paella and seared skirt steak with chimichurri. I order the steak rare but when it came out I was afraid it was over cooked. WRONG. It was perfect with a hard sear but juicy rare and tender inside. I own a small Inn in town and will be sending my guests with confidence.
we received a very warm welcome upon arrival. We really liked the ambience, classy and inviting. The service was above the board. the food portions were generous and delicious. We were not rushed, we feel the prices are very fair. We are looking forward to our next visit.
Easy to miss this great eatery at the end of town at night, but the food and selection were fabulous! The spicy chicken wing appetizers were meaty, with a great spicy sesame sauce. We also had the tempura asparagus with a great aioli dipping sauce and their special potstickers. I'd recommend all of them. Plenty to share. I had the fresh salmon with a vinaigrette that was fresh and not overcooked, as fish tends to be in restaurants. It was enough to share. The coconut shrimp were plump and tasty with a great dipping sauce. Creme Brule was shared for dessert. All deliscious! Service was also spot on but not hovering. Sure hope this place stays open long enough for folks to discover it! A real plus for the dining scene in GV. Did I mention they also have unusual and tasty cocktails? Great cocktail menu as well!
This was our first time at Enrique's and we were quite impressed. There were six of us and everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. Service was awesome and atmosphere was classy yet casual. We will definitely be coming back. You need to try this place.😀
Love this place. Solid service, great food, good people, vibin atmosphere.

If you are looking for a cozy restaurant with great food in Grass Valley, look no further than Kane's. The best way to describe the atmosphere is cozy meets upscale dining. You can choose to sit inside or outside, if the weather is nice. They even have a little area with a couch and love seating surrounding a gas fire pit outside. This restaurant is one that you want to bring your friends, have a few adult beverages, and enjoy your meal for a while. You will enjoy your meal! The menu has a lot to offer. From burgers to pizza to veal parmesan. The appetizers are equally amazing. The service was excellent! This was our fourth visit and we have never had a bad experience.
First time there - loved it! Great ambience and menu. Would probably give it 5 stars if it hadn't been a short visit - just had some appetizers at the bar. Next time...
Although the food is very good, the menu is too limited and not conducive to return very often. Please expand the menu so we can go back frequently!
Good food, atmosphere. I wish, the waitress asked me if I would like anything else before she gave me the check, I would've enjoyed another glass of wine that she recommended. Overall great experience
After moving seats to avoid the salsa dancers next to our table, we settled in and finally were able to order. They were, unfortunately, out of several dishes. My husband ordered pizza minus cilantro, but it was delivered with a lot of greenery on top. The crust was good, but the middle wasn't fully baked. My coconut shrimp was a bit over fried, which must have knocked off all the coconut. I'm still searching for the coconut.....

Kane's Is a lovely venue in down town Grass Valley. John Kane had the creative talent to design, build and operate the new restaurant. He served food that was wonderfully fresh, creative, original and delicious. His creation put a fire under an otherwise dying community. Sadly John was taken all to early and from that point his creative talent as a chef has been sorely missed. Today you can find little of that talented chef with the huge personality. Now serves over priced mediocre food that's over priced. I miss John Kane as does the community.
The food and service was good enough. My husband loved his ribeye steak. He got one cold unseasoned brocolli spear and watery mashed potatoes with it. I had the prawns Alfredo, which was good but very little sauce and enough garlic to choke a horse. The prawns were small shrimp. I ordered carrot cake to take home. It was inedible. It tasted like bread with grainy sugary frosting. How about adding some pineapple, and spice such as cardamom and mace. How about a simple cream cheese frosting of powdered sugar, butter and cream cheese. Sorry, not going back.
Kane's food is good, while it tries to look like a high end steak house it's a bar and grill. They wouldn't do split checks saying last time they did it, it broke their point of sale system. I may have rated higher if not for that. Yes, we had a big party but as I work with restaurants and support point of sale systems, I find this hard to believe.
More pricey than google says. Food was really good though. We had the create a salad, kids chz burger and the cheesecake. Service was just ok.

We went in for a cocktail at the bar and some tapas. Both drinks were not mixed correctly, one of which was doctored up adequately upon our request. The other was not drinkable (since when does a whisky sour taste like lemon juice?) The atmosphere was rather industrial. Fortunately, a more experienced bartender came on duty and prepared a good drink. On a positive note, the sliders were excellent as was the beet salad. Both were presented beautifully and prepared perfectly. Kudos to the chef!

After ordering risotto the waiter told us they didn't have it. Ordered Jameson and they didn't have that. The lemon chicken was dry. Very disappointed.
I was really excited to try this place because it seemed like a great addition to Grass Valley. I will start off by saying the waitress was really great and the ambiance was relaxing. The reason I’m giving it two stars was because of the food, drinks and their pricing is not to match the GV area… We got an appetizer that was some sort of watered down queso. We also ordered 2 signature cocktails - one from their fall menu. I am not exaggerating that it tasted like ethanol fluid. (Haven’t actually tried ethanol but that’s what I’m guessing it tasted like). I’m not one to send it back but I had to. I replaced it with a Moscow mule cause I figured you really can’t mess that one up. Wrong. My husband ordered an old fashion which tasting like sugar cherry water. We even stayed for dinner which I ordered the Thai flatbread but came out as pepperoni. No big deal. Well, it was also as good as the queso. I really hope this place straightens the kinks out because it could be great. I’ll give it another try and if it’s any better I’ll change my review.
Pretty disappointed in our last visit. We’ve been here a handful of times and the food has been ok. But this last time, the short rib had some sort of super salty gravy on it. We also ordered a couple of old fashions (which my fault I didn’t order the Bullet old fashioned, but that’s what I thought I was getting), when they arrived they were light pink in color, so I went up to the bar to politely ask them remade with no soda water and mentioned the menu didn’t say soda water. The bartender decided to argue with me that she ALWAYS makes them with soda.... Ok, well, I don’t like mine with soda... she continued to argue with me saying “well, you won’t even have a cocktail with no soda”, she also didn’t muddle the cherry and orange, just threw some juice from the jar into our cocktail. We spent $100 on dinner and drinks and left very disappointed. Probably won’t be back unfortunately. Two stars because our waitress was good and the ambiance is good.
Average food at above average prices with below average service. I have eaten at Kane's twice in the last three months and my experience of the past was reconfirmed, it's not that great. There are better local choices for foodies, albeit not many, but there are a few. March 2023 update This business used to be Kane's and changed names and maybe ownership in 2022.
Worst chicken picata in my life. So tough would need a steak knife to cut it and very difficult to chew. Rest of meal mediocre.
Unfortunately Approached the lounge bar area and sat for a good 10 minutes for a draft beer. I watched the bartender make 7 mixed drinks with zero contact or greeting. Disappointed at best. I left the building and went to Cirino's
The people were nice and the service was good. The food was way too rich and or fried. That kind of dining is good for a group to come in for drinks and share an apatizer or two. I felt kind of sick for the rest of the night and had to take multiple antacids for reflux and heartburn. I will probably go to Maria's next time as the food is excellent there.
Only tried the calamari. It was very bland. It came with 2 sauces, an aioli and cocktail. Both also very bland. Is salt/seasoning not available in their kitchen? The advertised Happy hour was only available at the bar even though the place was empty on a Friday Night Happy Hour at 4pm. Very disappointing. I would totally understand it if the place was packed. Instead we sat at the empty bar and stared at empty tables for over an hour. Happy hour special was $1 off well drinks. Also disappointing as we do not drink hard liquor so we skipped that for beer and wine. 1/2 off some appetizers was appreciated as we were not impressed with the calamari. The restaurant itself is nice with a great atmosphere and we may have come back to try again. A kitchen can have an off night. However, did not appreciate an automatic 20% gratuity that was practically hidden with the itemized charges near the tax. Could easily be missed and no word about it from the bartender who basically ignored us (but gave OK service). I already believe in tipping well as a former server. This with the bland food, bland service and frankly empty & SAD “Happy Hour” just left a bad taste in our mouths. Doubt if we will be back.

Waitress was amazing. Manager not so much. We ordered two ceaser salads with steak instead of chicken and were charged $64.00. Thats right 64 dollars!!!!!!!! They charged for a steak dinner and didnt inform us that thats what having steak on our salad would cost!!!!! Then wouldnt make it right!!! NEVER GOING BACK! communication is key, you should always inform people the coat of something, or make it right after sonething as outrageous as that
The place has a nice atmosphere but does not match its service. I ordered food and drinks and was excited to dine. Our server then took another ordered from some people that sat after us. As we waited for our drinks we noticed the drinks and food was brought out to the other table first. What the hell...we were still waiting for our salad and it seemed our waiter was not paying attention to our table. I felt invisible there as I patiently waited for my food. Finally after 60 minutes our appetizer was brought out. I was not being rude but logging her time in my head. She was an awful waitress and will not eat there again. I got my food and left. I ended tossing the cold food in the trash. And I went to dine at Cirinos, which by the way had great service great food and they did not make feel discriminated against. Shout out to Cirinos saved my evening.
Waitress was friendly and responsive. Food was subpar for price. Special of steak bites were fatty and gross. Ceasar salad was what I could get from the store in a bag- nothing special. Wine glass came with lip Mark's on the rim. Spending 15 for a glass of wine I expect clean. Music was loud!
My wife and I walked in to Kanes at around 1:30 on a Saturday afternoon. The man behind the bar asked if we were there for lunch. We said yes, and asked if we could sit at the bar. He tossed two menus down and walked away without saying another word. We never saw him again. The place was not packed, just the opposite in fact. We waited for 10 minutes, hoping to get his attention. When he did walk back to the bar he stood at the far end from us looking at some papers. We waited for about 10 more minutes, thinking he would at least take a drink order, some water perhaps, something. Nope. He turned his back on us and kept fussing at the other end of the bar. We walked out and went to the South Pine Cafe. It was packed! Had a great lunch. The service was not great, but at least it was service!
So bummed I came to the area on 9/12/25 to visit my friend & went to this place but it was closed. Very disappointed since I been craving the delicious ahi wontons I had the time before 😥. Hopefully it will be open the next time I am in the area.
Had high hopes based on other reviews & a couple we went with who really like the place. They liked their meal. Another couple we went with sent their 1st meal back (way overcooked fish) as well as their replacement meal (way undercooked fish). My meal was "ok" but my wife's was overcooked fish, which she ate anyway by mixing it with the side dish (also "just ok"). Our meals came very late and, despite that, we had no water, silverware or napkins when they arrived. Our waitress was under 21 so had difficulty with others she needed to bring us drinks, so those also took much longer than expected. The owner was rude to our friends with the over-then-under cooked meals. Maybe 3/4 of the tables had patrons. Adding it all up I give them a 1.
